This is a really great place if you go in knowing you're going to receive TERRIBLE service but great food.
We chose this place because we were walking through Dunedin and wanted a local place to eat/drink. Right when you walk in, you'll notice the ordering bar for drink and food are right in the same spot. The kitchen is also directly behind that. So start with the cluster that is that area.
So what, you say? Get over it, right? So I did.
We asked questions and we're waited on by a young man named Max. We couldn't have been rushed any more (understandably, since the entrance and food ordering and beer ordering and food pickup are all in the same place; therefore, waiting there creates a crowd). Now maybe the info above makes more sense.
Now, we get our beers and decide that we'd like to order some food. Lucky us! Two seats open right at the bar! We sit down and can't help but notice the extra, EXTRA sticky, dirty bar top. So I ask Max to wipe it down. He pulls a rag out of his back pocket and wipes it hurriedly. Unfortunately, his wipe down cleaned nothing. I would have asked him again, except he left so fast that I didn't have a chance. So we waited some more (about 4-5 minutes) before he acknowledged us again. I asked him to wipe the counter down again, and I got "the look" and another wipe. Noticing my face, he turned around, grabbed some cleaner, sprayed it on the rag and wiped again. Even after all that, you'd think the counter was clean.
Nope! Easily, 4 sticky drink stains remained (but who's counting?!)?! I know maybe this doesn't seem like a big thing, but for me, it is. I don't want to rest my arms on a wet table that's just been wiped down (yuck) or lay my sleeves in someone else's sticky drink residue. Just gross.
Then I asked for a beer menu (after hearing another customer offered one) and another guy pointed to the menu in front of me and said, "There it is". He was pointing to the menu written above me in chalk, while I'm looking at the stack of beer menus in front of me. He looked at me confused, as if I'd ask to see a menu of dinosaurs. Interestingly enough, a customer standing at the busy ordering spot said, "she wants to see a menu with descriptions and explanations". Apparently, he could understand, but the guy who worked there couldn't. I still never got to see the menu.
The good part - and why this review gets two stars - is because the tacos and the poutine were delicious. The pork was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The tacos were hearty.
I wish their focus would be on providing some excellent customer service, paired with some eye contact to welcome the folks that come in. I myself made eye contact and said hi two times to the bearded fellow (nice beard!), but couldn't get any response in return. The customers that approached the counter were hurried and even a little frenzied, since that's the service they received.
They've got a great tag line - "Florida's Oldest Microbrewery". Too bad "oldest" doesn't correlate to "best". I'll keep my fingers crossed, though. They have a great opportunity to turn things around. read more
