A good mechanic is a real find. This place is a block or so from my apartment. I had casually stopped in one or two times whenever a mysterious light came on in my Toyota Corolla, and the guys there were always happy to help. Then last year, I bought my baby. Like every new mother, I became insanely picky about who would be caring for it. Asking around, a friend suggested Dunlap & Swain-- his family had been going there for years. Aside from having extensive experience with a range of car types, D&S can be absolutely trusted. Their charges often come in under estimate. They work efficiently and with integrity. The backlog of cars parked in and around D&S waiting for repair is a good indicator of their quality. I actually feel like I've hit a little jackpot finding this place, thinking of the hundreds to thousands of dollars in car repairs I've saved for years to come. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE FOR REPAIRS!! Poor workmanship, after market parts and No Guarantees when you will get your car out of their garage. Very Slow, Poorly Managed and you are on their schedule. The after markets parts they used needed to be replaced after 2 weeks and their was No Guaranteee when they could get me in or how long it would take. This place for whatever reason consistently goes downhill! I've had two bad experiences here in the last six months, there's an individual they're working named Javier, who honestly cannot put together a full sentence. Therefore, he is not able to communicate effectively and help anyone that needs help! Some days they are lazy I guess and say that they don't do certain services, like plug a tire, when I know that they for sure do that because I've had it done many times but again it depends on what day you go there. They cannot tell you how much they charge for an oil change over the phone until they see your vehicle, that is absurd. I have never heard of anything like that and again it's poor customer service. This is a neighborhood station that still has a Monopoly on the neighborhood, but it's not like it was years ago, the service has definitely declined and most of all they just don't care it seems read more

Re: Emissions Testing. The hours are innacurate on their website. They "do emissions testing until 5" but you are SOL unless you come before 4 PM. I've come several times at 4-4:15 trying to squeeze in this errand between working hours and every time they refuse me because it's "too close to 5" and the inspector is leaving for the day. Prompt, honest, same day service. I've used these honest folks two times in the past 6 months. They replaced shocks & struts on my 2015 Tahoe . Same day service , very satisfied . Brought in today for State inspection Requested them to also inspect the brakes .Reported back within one hour saying the brakes front and back were in good shape . Again , fast & honest service. I have never left here satisfied. I live very close to the shop and was thrilled to have a convenient service location. I have been turned down to get an inspection sticker. I have been turned down during work hours (several times) due to "not being open" yet the man I spoke to was working the cashier My boyfriend went to get a nail fixed in his tire, resulted in them creating a larger hole in his tire. He took a picture of the man fixing it and the man claimed "it wasn't him" when my boyfriend went back to confront about the now larger hole. I have gotten gas here and seen the man working the cashier turn down other customers while I am at the pump outside. I believe that one time in 4 years they did plug a tire for me, but once when I came with a flat they told me there was nothing they could do and that I needed to drive the 15 minutes to nearest Firestone. Had a screw in a tire. Pulled up out front and Darrel came out to meet me and asked if he could help. I showed him the screw and he fixed on the spot in two minutes. Best part is his credit card machine was down and I had no cash, so he said, well I guess this one was free. Taking cash back to him. Excellent service. Been a customer for 15 years and I won't go back. I went to get full service gas and air in my tires (because Covid) and when it was time to pay my card was decline, very unusual but I thought maybe my credit card company suspected fraudulent activity. So I gave them another credit card (different company) again declined. So they proceeded to tell me their system was down and I waited 10 minutes before they told me to come inside (which I was trying to avoid because of Coronavirus). Checked my accounts online and everything was fine so I tried those 2 credit cards again and then my debit card which all declined and then they made me feel as if it were my fault and not something with the system. If two different credit cards decline AND a debit card that sounds like something with the reader or system. But they continued to make me feel like it was my fault until I asked them what they wanted me to do? He suggested typing in my number, which I did, and it was approved.... clearly your chip reader is malfunctioning. Please don't assume I don't have money because I don't drive a luxury vehicle like you're use to seeing in your neighborhood. I won't go back. read more

Well I've only been once, but the place lived up to everyone else's reviews! They looked to be very busy at 10 AM on a Wednesday, so I was thinking I'd have to wait for a turn in the garage. I told Lee that my tire was slowly losing air- he walked with my car and eyed the tire as I drove. Immediately found the nail, grabbed the tools for removal and patching, and I was in and out in 10 minutes for $10 dollars! No garage spot needed. Will be back again for any car issues. read more

Very impressive. I pulled up right as it started to rain and the tech had me back my car right up to the garage. He motioned for me to go ahead and stay inside (and stay dry!) and proceeded to fix my flat and top off the air on all the rest in just ten minutes. At the end, he presented me with 4+ nails letting me know what he found and said I was good to go. The charge? $10. I made sure to tip him and was on my way! Fantastic. read more

I have been using Dunlap-swain for years! They are seriously the best. I get my service done through the them, full service gas, and they fix all the holes in my tires (I go to lots of construction sites). This morning topped it all and they exceeded my expectations. I walked outside at my house and had a flat tire they came out and patched my tire within 20 minutes! Best service around! read more

Another pain of moving to a new city: finding a car servicing place that you trust! Ugh. Luckily, I picked Dunlap Swain off of a list of places to get a state inspection since I knew they were in a reputable part of town. After that, I've been back on two other occasions, and I'm very thankful I found them. I now pay a fraction of what I used to when I was getting my car serviced at a dealership. Their staff is courteous, and the hubs, coming from a car family, said their prices are fair. This is just a bonus and quite random, but the drink selection they have (despite the small size of the waiting area) is outstanding! I went to Dunlap-Swain to get my headlight replaced. I had been there multiple times to get a nails pulled from my tires and have always been pleased. This morning, Russell immediately helped me with my headlight and spent 45 minutes fixing it...it was very difficult to get to. He also noticed that I had something loose and spent another 15-20 minutes fixing it. Great service and great price. read more

This place is as dishonest as it gets. DO NOT GO TO DUNLAP SWAIN. They charged me $800 to fix my A/C and in 2 months when the A/C went out again, they refused to own up to their work and repair the A/C. Instead, John Niemeyer claimed he wasn't responsible for the work, and that he "didn't care" that I was upset that the A/C still didn't work. This company does not stand behind their work nor correct the mistakes they make. Instead, John Niemeyer hung up on me! Completely unprofessional. I had been going here for 10 years and John treated me with complete disrespect and dishonesty. Very disappointing. read more

Arrived today and the employee informed me that they do not patch holes on Sunday. I've been getting my annual inspection done here for several years and have always been satisfied, so I assumed that I would be able to trust Dunlap-Swain with other repairs as well. After my most recent experience, however, I will not return to Dunlap-Swain for any type of auto service. I took my car in because my check engine light came on and I needed to get that taken care of. I had previously taken my car to another shop, where they diagnosed the problem and gave a quote for how much it would cost to fix, but I wasn't able to get the repairs done there due to time constraints. The mechanics at Dunlap-Swain originally diagnosed my car with the same problem the other shop had, and quoted me the same price for repairs. However, they then called me the next day to tell me that they had found additional problems and it would cost twice as much to repair. But the "additional problems" were the same thing they had told me they were going in to fix in the first place! In the end, I was charged over two times what they had initially quoted me for repairs. I no longer feel that I can trust this shop and I will not return in the future. read more

They took 20 minutes to get to us, assess the tire issue and fix it on a VERY BUSY morning (at least 5 other cars there) and they apologized for the wait more than enough times. $10 for a tire repair and we're on our way again!! I had a tire with a slow leak that was not actually all that slow. Drove up to Dunlap-Swain on Cole and the gentlemen there found and completely repaired the leak in almost no time. If I was there more than 7 minutes I would be surprised. Fast, efficient, and friendly. Thanks so much! read more
