Celebrated my wife's birthday with a lovely dinner. We were seated right away upon arrival which set a great tone for the evening. They started us off with some fresh bread which was absolutely wonderful especially with the olive oil vinaigrette. We enjoyed it so much we had to ask for seconds. To start, we shared the seared yellowfin tuna appetizer. It was fresh and flavorful. For the main course, I went with the roasted crispy duck. It lived up to its name, perfectly crispy and delicious. The gravy sauce it came with was a bit on the sweeter side than we're used to. We tend to prefer an Asian-style gravy when it comes to duck. My wife had the puttanesca which she really enjoyed. I gave it a try, but it wasn't quite my thing. I usually like my pasta with some kind of protein. For dessert, they surprised her with a complimentary tiramisu birthday treat which was a nice touch. We also ordered a single cup of cappuccino to share just enough to enjoy without staying up too late. 4.8 Why did it take us so long to try this place... Date night. Had reservations for 6:30 and were seated promptly and then greeted promptly. Inside had a few smaller rooms. Front room had larger tables and a little louder, our middle room was quiet and intimate. Our amazing servers name was Hannah. Super upbeat and helpful, genuine and wonderful at her job- glasses always full and she was on point with her recommendations. Immediate served warm bread and oil. Started off with wine and a beer. Appetizer- crab cakes, not just lump, but actually large chunks of buttery, melt in your mouth, crab. Light sauce in the side, which it honestly didn't need. Also tried the homemade mango hot sauce, not needed but was very good and we purchased a bottle to go. Salad- Split the palm salad. Looks unassuming but was a top 3 salad for me. Texture, flavor, delicious. Meal- As you can opt to do a half and half meal, we did. Each of us s deciding on the filet (blue cheese, balsamic) and sea bass (slightly crisp outside, melt in your mouth tender inside). Both come with a large pistachio ravioli side and veggies. We couldn't finish our meals, so took our leftovers to go and ordered some dessert to go: Lemoncillo cheesecake- good, and the chocolate mousse- decadent and a fave. For starters, we tried the Seared Yellowfin Tuna, which was beautifully prepared but a little on the salty side due to the sauce. For our mains, my husband went with the Crispy Duck, which was indeed crispy and flavorful, though the sauce was a tad too sweet for our liking. I opted for the Puttanesca pasta, substituting angel hair with pappardelle. It was a great choice, rich in flavor, with a generous portion of pasta that I thoroughly enjoyed. I think I had the best meal in the Jacksonville area at Dwight's, and now I'm afraid to go back since I can't imagine a second visit being any better... I'll have to challenge myself and get back there. First off, the service from Sean/Shawn?? was top-notch. Just the right level of making me feel like we're old friends against the backdrop of that friend serving me in a way that I could have requested anything imaginable. When I ask for a recommendation between two items, he reinforced that at Dwight's, the first answer is "yes" and then it's just a question of how... He ended up bringing me both items that I couldn't choose between and didn't even charge extra for that. The lamb chops were incredible (veal was pretty good too), the shrimp casino appetizer was one of the best apps I've ever had, I only wish I had saved room for dessert. Pricing is a little bit higher end, but certainly not anything out of line for the quality and quantity of food, combined with the incredible service. Reservations were easy to make online, noting that my wife and I enjoyed sitting in the dining room - it seems that there were many other people who prefer to sit bar side so they could watch the cooking happen. I wouldn't necessarily say that the decor is anything that necessarily resonated with me either outside the restaurant or in the dining room, but it was a comfortable setting in a classic European theme. Historically when people have asked me what my favorite / interesting restaurant is in the Jacksonville area I haven't had an answer... Now I will clearly say, "just go to Dwight's." read more

Tonight was our first time eating at this restaurant and it was a real treat. The ambiance is cozy and romantic. Service from Sean was also great. We started with the shrimp casino. The menu has plenty of great sounding appetizers and entrees. My husband was between the lamb chops and the veal piccata and asked Sean for a recommendation. He then said you could get a half of each entree, which had never been offered to us in all of our years of eating out. My husband loved both items. I opted for the scallops, which are served scampi style. They came with a big portion of delicious carrots as well as green beans and one pistachio ravioli. We were given a gift card by one of my husband's clients and were happy to try it again for the first time in years. We were told to sit at the bar and watch the team cook. You will need to reserve these seats a few weeks in advance as there are only 6 bar seats. It was a fun experience but I think I would choose a table next time to be a little more comfortable. I did not remember what we had on our last visit, but we ended up ordering pretty much the same things with a few exceptions. The bread to start with is delicious! Warm soft center with a nice crust. Hubby had the 1/2 spinach salad and I had the 1/2 chopped without bacon or onion. Still large portions for both. I chose the angel hair puttanesca with no anchovies or onions and light garlic. It was delicious and a huge portion! I couldn't even eat 1/3 of it. Hubby had the crab cake dinner and loved it. He said they have some of the best crab cakes he has ever had. We shared a crème brûlée dessert that was good but torched a little too much. I took my own wine and their corkage fee is $25. A bit high for this area. Hubby enjoyed some light beers. From the handmaid bread, to the freshly made pasta carbonara. The highly rated (MASSIVE) pork chop was so good. And the CRAB CAKES! From someone born and raised on the eastern shore of Maryland, Delaware, and Chesapeake, I approve of the crab cakes (and that's saying a lot!). The experience was great and reminded us of what we had been missing while cooking at home and having takeout for months on end. Every time I go back I remember the good times we had there. Our server, Hannah was very informative and kind. We started off with the shrimp casino as the appetizer which was amazing. The sea scallops and fettuccine carbonara were our main dishes. The scallops were perfectly cooked and balanced with sautéed green beans and carrots. Fettuccine carbonara can be an easy dish to make too heavy or runny, but this one had a light creamy sauce that held to the noodles very well. A major plus was the homemade pasta that was cooked to al dente. Unfortunately, for us, they were out of their crème brûlée, but we did take home the apple crisp which hits the sweet tooth spot. What a surprising delight is Dwight's Bistro. The place has the most amazing décor of any restaurant I've ever been in. All of the walls and ceilings are done in an individual hand-cut, hand-set tile mosaic; being artistically done. I'm not sure the exact number but it has to be hundreds of thousands of them. I've never seen anything like and I'm sure, neither have you. So glad to have finally tried Dwight's! Cute little bistro located next door to Cinotti's donuts. EXCELLENT service and delicious food. Pasta is fresh and made in house. The fettuccini noodles are light and almost melts in your mouth. Huge fan! The Carbonara fettuccini was so rich and full of flavor without feeling heavy. The crab cakes were tasty and made with that lump crab instead of breadcrumb fillers. They were served on a plate with a pinch of preshredded carrots, red cabbage shreds, and a blob of tartar sauce. Aesthetically, not what I'd expect from a place that charges this much per plate, but the taste made up for it. The pork chop special was fantastic and the baked baby carrots were probably some of the tastiest I've tried. The chocolate torte was brilliant. So many levels of flavor and just kept getting better with each bite. Even if you aren't impressed with the pictures, give this place a try. It's one of Jax Beach's hidden gems. read more

See examples below: Crab cakes - amazing. Probably the best thing we had. I got the lamb chops which came with (what I compare to pickled / pre prepped veggies) on the side of carrots & cucumbers. Then one piece of ravioli on a separate plate. Husband got the mixed grill which had a little bit of everything with the same sides. How is it fine dining when the majority of the sides were pre prepped in most likely a big batch then thrown on a plate? I don't see this as any different than getting kimchi on the side when you go to a Korean restaurant. For dessert, we got the bananas foster - which was literally just vanilla ice cream with toasted sliced bananas in a bowl, for $20. $20!!!! It is insane! Was it good? Yes. Was it worth more than $3? No. The slice of tiramisu was $10 & it was good. Probably won't return. 3 stars because everything tasted fine but definitely not worth the price. read more

This was a surprisingly delightfully treat... Once you walk into the door , it's truly inviting and warm and cozy. The wait staff was amazing. I personally ordered the new York strip. What a tasty steak, I also tried a bit of my loves filet mignon which was as just as delicious, but in all honesty; the New York strip was just as tender and much more meat. Our friends ordered the sea bass and another had the crab cakes and one the veal. I'm not a fan of crab cakes but everyone who tried them loved them. All dinners came with a pistachio ravioli with a light marinara. Also green beans and cooked carrots . The vegetables were seasoned perfectly... the basket of bread and olive oil, with balsamic vinegar, and crack pepper that was brought to the table had to be refilled 4 times if that tells you anything . One thing I really loved was the portion size. Each dish wasn't too much or wasn't overly obnoxious. Only issue I had with the whole meal was one of the desserts. The crème brûlée had a weird taste and was so thin , you might as well been just eating a layer of crunchy sugar. When pushing your spoon into the Brulé it's barely covered the tip before hitting the bottom of the ramekin. Very very disappointing, especially for the price. Being a man that made hundreds a day at Central Market, Austin, Texas; this was a sad example. The ones we made were easy 2" deep and the flavor was to die for. That creamy buttery goodness that, made ya almost want to lick the dish , after the fact . Over all this was a meal that has me dying to go back. Just a bit sad at the end of the meal to be let down... Now the other 3 desserts were great the apple pie with ice cream, and ohhh my the tiramisu was so lovely ... the wine choices were nice. To be honest I was just not impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the crab cake dinner as people have just raved about them. I felt like the crab cake lacked flavor but the sauce to go with it was way over powering. It came carrots, Brussels sprouts and corn as the veggi all of which could of been cooked more. It also came with a ravioli which had hard chunks in it?? I did have a couple bites of pasta which was too die for. However my friend ordered another type of pasta and was disappointed. I think for this quality and price of a place, the food should of been better. Now don't let me steer you wrong, the service is what you pay for.
