STAY AWAY! Very shady! This place is very shady in its transactions. On the receipt, it includes a 15% gratuity charge which is ok. However, this place charges tax on the gratuity, which is illegal! The cashier refuses to change or recalculate this, and tells us that they have been doing it this way for years, which means they pocketed hundreds of thousands of illegal money. Came here for dinner before a game at Citi field. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant, but it's free only if you eat at the restaurant, not buffet dining. The fare was standard Cantonese fair and everything was authentic, although the food somewhat lacked taste. There's a manager standing around making sure the workers are moving and doing their jobs. They come by after every dish is served to check it off the list. Be wary if you are parking in the lot. I saw a dead rat that seemed to have been run over. It's a skanky area. read more

Downstairs restaurant: the food came out fast, practically no wait between the final ordering and the food coming out to the table. They had a promo going on with the seafood tonight so we ended up ordering the lobster, the crab, the sea cucumbers, the scallops, the shrimp, the fish, the roasted suckling pig, and the crispy chicken dishes. Every dish was flavorful and pretty good, especially at the prices we were charged. The only disappointments I experienced tonight was that the spices tended to overpower the food in some of the dishes, the bathroom left a lot to be desired, and in the end we felt like we were being rushed out. But the guy who initially took our order was very helpful and informative. I have mixed feelings about this place...kind of like my sexuality. Kidding aside, this place can have its moments of greatness, and just when you think it'll satisfy your craving for sum dim (see what i did there?), it rips your heart out like getting your bubblicious lollipop snatched by the big bad bully in 2nd grade, during math class, at 1:46PM...not that it happened to me or anything. Anyway, their food is just inconsistent to the point that it's very noticeable. Some days it's super flavorful, everything seasoned just right bursting in pockets of msg goodness, and sometimes it's just bland and poorly delivered mediocrity. I have been to East Buffet many times. When I initially came here years ago, I celebrated many occasions while dating my wife. We've spent Valentine's Day and Christmas holidays here for dinner. They offered a Great Buffet, you could add live lobsters for just a couple of bucks and there was a mountain of chilled beer cans on ice where are you could take as many as you wanted. I had My wedding Here 5 years ago. My knowledge of Chinese and my Chinese fiance was absolutely Necessary in arranging the event. We had a very nice private room on the top floor to the right as you go up the stairway. I was smart to bring My Own Beer Champaign and booze. The food included Ginger Lobster and crunchy sweet and sour pork. Other Delicacies included incredible beef short ribs and many other delicious dishes served on big lazy Susans in the middle of our tables. The quality and flavor of the food was Unusual and Delicious. We had a Great Wedding party. Half traditional Chinese and half American,we had about 50 close friends and had a great time. We have returned many times since. On the weekends, my wife and I will go upstairs early in the day before crowds come. I enjoy getting a table by the window and watching Chinese television, reading the newspaper. The cart ladies know my wife as we are local, I do speak some Mandarin makes things a lot easier here. It's pretty with a grand spiraling stairwell leading into an opulent chinese banquet dining hall. We were late for dim sum, well after 1pm so there were few carts with even less offerings to feed about 300 hungry, chatty bellies. When we are able to secure a cart driver, we almost didn't let her go. We were able to secure some of our faves through a bit of patience and finagling. Their shrimp crepes were bit too soft but one can never go wrong with sh crepes so we got two. The beef ends mixto stew- ok but not much variety. The chicken feet were deliciously sweet, mouth burning hot, glutinous. The Ha-gao were perfect. Their sticky rice patties individually wrapped were soft, gooey, burn the roof of your mouth yummy. The dim sum now on a weekend is $3.25 starting, I figure we try it since I haven't eaten here in over 5 years. The food was ok, decent size items, but the service is what really infuriated me. I was infuriated because they yelled at a customer.The cart lady yelled at a customer for not picking the right thing. In any good business you never yell at the customer for any reason. This resulted in us leaving after I made it apparent to everyone what the cart lady had done. The servers knew what the cart lady did incorrectly and kept saying in Chinese thank you thank you thank you as we paid the bill to leave. I've never been told thank you when leaving a Chinese restaurant like this. At the end of the day you NEVER YELL at a customer. Second even if the customer is wrong you do not yell at the customer. Customers come in to eat and enjoy the time spent in the restaurant, NOT to be yelled at because they didn't direct you to pick the right item off the cart. Thank you but no thank you. My family's go-to dim sum spot. I love this place because we have master the art of choosing our food. We know what carts have the fresh food - watch out for the carts going back into the kitchen. The popular items are always fresh - shrimp or beef rice rolls (cheung fun), shu mai, etc. The worst is when you chose dimsum that no one want and it's cold and not very tasty. This is one of my usual go-to dim sum spots in Flushing. Their parking lot is better than other restaurants further downtown. Yesterday was my latest visit w/ my cousin. We ordered dim sum and plated food. The egg yolk buns were very good. The beef rib dim sum was good but a little too fatty for me. The rice noodles and sautéed Chinese broccoli were great. The downside was their limited supply of shumai dumplings. My cousin and I were really craving them and hunting down its carts. There was only one cart w/ dumplings. Sacrilegious! Had dim sum Saturday with the family. Busy as a place on a Saturday is, luckily meeting someone and they had table. I love the cart system and this was a steady stream of delicious options. Service was very good. Har gaw, shrimp sui Mai, pork & shrimp sui Mai, gao Choi dumpling were very good. Excellent shrimp rice noodle, a true measure of dim sum. Giving a 1 star to any place is pretty harsh but honestly that's being generous for this place... Went here for a wedding reception and with the regular Chinese wedding menu -- seafood dishes, shark fin soup, fried rice ,etc. Cleanliness: 0/5 I usually don't rate this for Chinatown places just because you really cant "judge a book by its cover" in Chinatown but if you're an establishment that does wedding receptions guests shouldn't feel like they should take some antibiotics before coming here in case they catch something. To start off the seat covers were dirty and full of food stains. The plates had food residue and the worst part was our drink cups had a stench of moldy water from, obviously, the moldy napkins that were stuffed into it. There's a reason why this place was closed down for health violations... Service: 1/5 Slow and non-existent. Food: 0/5 The seafood was definitely not fresh and gave that old fish smell even after it was cooked. The shark fin soup had so much starch in it that it wasn't even soup anymore but some sticky goop. The "crab balls" with the decorative crab leg protruding out was really made of shrimp. So where did the crab claws come from?? Even that fried rice and noodles were subpar...(how do you mess up on fried rice???) Honestly, some places that are closed should really stay closed. I have gone here many, many times over the past few years because for some reason my family insists on putting convenience over quality when it comes to taking my grandma out to eat. This is the closest restaurant to where she lives. The food WAS okay overall (note the past tense... today has changed my opinion), and it's cheap. But the service is appalling and they automatically charge you a mandatory 15% tip on your bill. The wait staff are on a scale from indifferent to condescending. We usually eat downstairs and the ambiance is like eating in a basement cafeteria. Today, we found a piece of PAPER RECEIPT at the bottom of our dish of Young Chow Fried Rice. This piece of paper was about 4 inches tall and it looked like it had been stir fried into the rice because it had oil stains all over it, though it was completely intact. Unfortunately we had already eaten more than half of the dish before we noticed it. I was horrified and insisted that we complain, but my family didn't want to make a scene. When a waiter came over I said, "This piece of paper was in our food" and my mom was WAY too nice and just said in Chinese that they should tell the cook to be more careful next time. The waiter just took the piece of paper and walked away, barely acknowledging that we were served a contaminated dish. He did NOTHING. Is it expected that we be eating ink and paper???!!! When we got the bill, I looked and they did NOT adjust it at all for the dish. I was disappointed that my family didn't make a bigger deal out of this but what can you do, I was outnumbered. Let me preface this by saying that I've never sat at a table here and only ever some here for dim sum to go and for their hot buffet to go, so I can't attest to wait times or service (though it's generally crowded during the peak dim sum hours.) The dim sum is always delicious and fresh every time I go. It's not life changing dim sum but the fact that it tastes great even once I get home should attest to the taste and quality. I always get a couple of their shrimp wrapped in rice noodle (har churng), the shrimp dumpling (har gaw), the sticky rice and chicken feet! (Fung jao). I'm also a fan of the "3 or 4 items with rice" deal. It's self explanatory but you pretty much choose the sides you want at the hot buffet (range of the typical fish, mixed vegetables, pork, beef, chicken varieties) and you get it all dumped in a styrofoam container with a generous heaping of rice for $4-5. Good for those lazy "I don't want to cook" days. The way the dim sum and hot buffet station works is that you tell them what you want, and they will print out a receipt for you. You take that receipt to the cashier, pay, get it stamped and then give the receipt back to the lady to get your food. I was puzzled the first time but I suppose it makes good enough sense. I took one star off because a couple of times, they would charge me random prices. I successfully got it changed once but the second time, I was just shrugged off. Not the greatest customer service but I've been a resident of the area for 25 years so I can't say I'm appalled. Wow...I am passionate about not ever coming back here again. I've been to this restaurant many times, but management seems to be getting worse and worse. It seems like they've fired some of the better managers who focused on customer service, and they're left with the $hitty ones. We came here with around 10 people and requested a bigger table, which were available. For some reason, they kept trying to seat us in a table fit for 8. One of the managers were willing to accommodate us, but another guy (who I believe was the owner himself), got angry with us. He had an major scowl on his face and just said we should just sit there. I said something back to him, and he yelled at me. SERIOUSLY??? I understand that sometimes Chinese service is inferior to other restaurants, but this restaurant straight up yells at you. But if you know what you like, you don't need to come here for it. This place is for fools! I've been here a few times and I don't see what all the fuss is about. The good stuff like lobster and crab legs never come around and they only put it out when it's crowded, so if you get there during an off peak hour, don't expect to see lobster, sashimi, or crab legs. I pretty much have to settle for poorly made sushi rolls and peiking duck to satisfy my night. Not worth the price of a buffet. I've stood there at the buffet waiting for the lobster tray to be refilled only to be told there's no more for the night but if I wanna pay $5 they'll bring one to my table. This review is for both the upstairs buffet and the downstairs take-out area. 1st floor: As soon as you walk in, you'll see a station with hot food on the right side. This station is one of those "pick three dishes" type stations. The food is very fresh during mealtimes because the turn-over is quick. I personally recommend the fried tofu with vegetables dish. You can also get your typical Chinese "deli" meats such as roast duck, roast pork, and soy sauce chicken. The crispy roast pig is my favorite here, they've never produced a bad batch here. Moving upstairs to the buffet: For a while, East Buffet was charging half price in hopes of pulling in more customers. While the food selection here is the same as the East Manor in Elmhurst, I just can't stand how noticably bustly it is here. I've come to realize that most traditional chinese patrons have a different perception of "great service." I suppose for them, as long as the teapot is never empty and the dirty dishes are taken away, the waiter has done his job. Problem is, you're really alienating the Western crowd, most of whom are novices. Western customers like to feel engaged with and guided through their definition of ethnic food. To them, an experience can be had with what is considered typical for traditional Chinese folks. Well you're not gonna get much else but a full teapot and a clean table for your next round of dirty dishes here. Peking duck is the most outstanding offering. Seafood is also great but you'll have to shove aside the little asian granny who's hovering around the empty tray while waiting for the next batch. But when I got there, there was a huge staircase that led to the second floor; pretty beauty and the beastish. (yeah i said it) Oh nevermind the hell I went through trying to get there. A few people walking past backing up cars, tour buses doing a reverse down a crowded one way, and flashing lights, and dui's, but what more is there to say; your in flushing queens!!!! So I arrive at this place and walk up the stairs, and booyah, this bitc* is jammed packed. Theres two events going on here, so there is about 600 people walking around aimlessly. Amazing how this place can fit this many people. Ok, so Im not sure if the waiters spoke any type of english, hell I didnt even bother asking. But they had a great variety of food, especially many cultural foods that I had never seen or heard of before, like sashimi. After about two hours of open buffet, I couldnt take anymore. I didnt really like the cheap wine that were on our tables (yellow tail), but whatever, beggars cant be choosers. Bathrooms: So i didnt know that the bathroom door extended all the way up, so as I closed the bathroom door, I smashed my finger. Greaat. There was a small draft coming in from the people opening and closing the doors constantly. Ok someone just reminded me about the PEKING DUCK, oh hells yeah! East Buffet is actually two restaurants in one! See BELOW for the skinny on both restos. UPSTAIRS: This is the place to go for DIM SUM. Here are some tips and comments: 1. Gratuity is included. They expressly have a sign by the waitress stand that says "Tips included." One of the nice things about eating here. 2. Come here before noon if you don't want to wait on weekends. It gets super busy. 3. Carts are good but make sure you're in a prime location. If you sit far away from where they come out, you might not get any food. 4. The grill/hot plate/braised/sauteed station is worth taking a look at. They have live/raw seafood crawling on the table, in their last moments of life. Unfortunately for them, they're also very tasty. The nice Chinese ladies will sometimes freshly saute a plate of sea whelks or Manila clams in black bean sauce for only $8. There's also simply prepared greens (blanched and sauteed with soy sauce), fried turnip cakes, and more. 5. Sometimes it pays off to be adventurous. Some of their best stuff is stuff you might not figure is typical dim sum: fried cruller in rice rolls, giant seafood dumpling in soup, chicken with fish maw, steamed tripe, pork blood with chives. Of course, they do the mainstays of dim sum really well too: Steamed rice rolls with anything, shui mai, pork spare ribs, egg tarts, crystal shrimp dumplings. DOWNSTAIRS BACK: More traditional sit-down entree style lunch and dinner. I wouldn't call them the BEST place in Flushing, but they're one of the most economical. If you prefer less salty food, this is the place to go. My family and I always order tons of live, seasonally-priced seafood. My favorites are: steamed scallops in the shell with rice vermicelli, garlic, and scallions, steamed giant oysters with housemade XO sauce, fresh live steamed fish, lobsters (sometimes they have specials -- under $10 for two!), crabs, and more. Their double boiled soups are flavorful and steaming hot and deservedly are showcased on their very own page of the menu. In the front downstairs of East Buffet, there is an actual buffet section that's for takeout. Ironically, this is the only part of the whole building that's true to its name. But forget the name! The only reason I go to this place is because my godfather lives a few blocks away, and he (for some reason) likes it here. We tend to come here for dim sum, and it's... alright. Nothing great about it - I've definitely been to better dim sum places. The reason this place is getting two stars instead of three is because of the service. Normally, I don't really care about an Asian restaurant's service - it's normally relatively bad no matter where you go - but this place was just seriously bad. First, the tablecloth was so worn, there were holes in it. That's alright if you're at home, but at a restaurant, they should put forth their best. Then, the dim sum cart ladies would spend most of their time chatting with each other and ignoring their customers - I had to chase one down (only for her to give me a dirty look) in order to get a dish. And then the managers/assistant managers kept moving around our chairs! I'm not sure why but they did. Quite annoying. So if this wasn't near my godfather's place (or if I could just convince him to go somewhere else), I wouldn't bother coming here. But because he insists (and I like to indulge him), I go. I came here today and I was astonished at how horrid of a place this has become. I used to love this place like ten years ago. There was such a wide variety of food and it was decent! But now, this place has become quite the opposite. I'm not sure how that came about, but I will never come here again (unless my grandma drags me here). The dim sum here is sub par at best, and everything looks very sloppily made and not fresh. I love shui mai, and I was so disappointed in their shui mai. There was still a freaking shrimp shell in the shui mai. Some of their food wasn't even warm--it was cold. I was so disgusted. Besides that, the table cloth had holes in them. Seriously? And besides the fact that it had holes, it was a bit damp. Ugh. And the dishes and tea cups did not look like they were particularly clean. Moreover, the floor was all sticky and my sandal actually stuck to the floor for a few seconds because of this. The service here is as horrible as they can get. I usually don't expect much service from Chinese restaurants because let's just face it, there's almost always bad service. But the service here was particularly bad. We had to wait a good five minutes before someone even acknowledged our existence and seated us. And we were seated, I waited a good ten minutes before one of the dim sum carts even bothered to come near our table. Besides that, the waiters don't even acknowledge you even if you call them three times and tend to walk away pretending that they didn't hear you. Ugh! I always dread coming here to eat, but my mom loves this place. Weeknights price is $13.00 per person. My mom thinks it's a bargain and she likes to hustle on the buffet lines. She's up there with the rest of the buffet goers pouncing on every last lobster tail and dungeness crab legs. I like the raw oyster bar, but there's only ONE guy doing all the shucking and he's mad slow. 20 min standing in line and he only rations out 3 oysters/3 clams. Would give this place zero stars if I could. This place sucks. Even if their food is good I wouldn't come. It's just "convenient" but their service is horrendous. They don't give to craps about their service. The food could be amazing and it would be ruined by service. I don't tolerate that stuff. They're also really dirty. I would never come here. This place used to be nice but really became a poop house over the years. If another restaurant similar to them opened up around- they would surely go out of business. They're solely still there because they're just close to residents. Don't go here if you're looking for a chinese restaurant to eat at. I would rather drive elsewhere or go somewhere else than to eat here and feed money to a business that can care less about their employees and their customers. read more

East Buffet in Flushing isn't what it used to be. Each time I go for the buffet the sashimi tastes less and less fresh and the only thing I wind up looking forward to is the Peking duck. For banquets the food is okay. They serve what most Chinese restaurants serve but quality all depends on the menu chosen. Dim sum is the only consistently decent food there. Parking on Friday or Saturday nights is always an adventure that turns Maple Ave into a parking lot. This is one of the main reasons I don't bother going there anymore. We also had a horrible experience with their banquet manager in 2006. My wife, at the time my fiancee, and I met with him to discuss the possibility of having our wedding banquet there. He was extremely condescending and spoke to us as if we weren't serious about it. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere. read more

This is a review of the take out portion of the restaurant. 4 stars for the food. 2 stars for the service. The roasted meats for take out towards the middle of the ground floor are good: roast pork (char siu), soy sauce chicken (see yu guy), steamed chicken, roast duck, duck wings. You can also order some roasted meats with rice and veg (usually cabbage) is included ($5.75). Beware! The workers do not speak any English, not even the word "wings" is understood. Only Mandarin is spoken inside. The woman in the back near the roasted meats makes your ticket and you give it to the cashier. The stocky ticket woman is extremely rude and unpleasant. Obnoxious to deal with unless you speak fluent Mandarin. Near the front of the restaurant are entrees that can be ordered separately or 4 with rice ($6.25). You can point to these dishes to go with the rice. These meat and veg dishes that go with the rice are leftovers from what doesn't sell in the sit-down part of the restaurant. The final product is kind of wet because there's so much sauce, but you do get a lot of food for $6.25. I usually can split an order into 2 meals. When I come here I usually have a craving for roasted meats or the cooked veg. I have to steel myself to deal with some of the workers who are often rude depending on which ones are working that day. Is it worth it? I don't know. There are so many other places in the neighborhood that offer the same kind of food. read more

Chinese AYCE. One of the best AYCE places for chinese food. They also have other ethnic foods for AYCE, some italian. Originally opened up in Huntington Station out in Long Island, they started to expand into Queens. This location along with one in Elmhurst are similar to the one out in Huntington, even though I do prefer the one out there more. If you don't want AYCE, they also have a regular dinner menu which you can order from. I had come here for a wedding banquet, and the food is very good here. If the AYCE is good, the regular dishes are just as good. Great food, alot of variety, and very fresh. I love the Peking Duck here, because it is done right and well. Cost is reasonble in my opinion for AYCE with their variety, about $21 on weekdays and $23 on weekends.
