Service was EXCEPTIONAL and the food was okay. Our waitress was very attentive and provided great service. The restaurant decor was your average older Chinese decor. Both the waitress and host were friendly. We had Shrimp Fried Rice, Egg Foo Young, Tempura Shrimp and Wong Tong and Egg Drop mix soup. It was all just okay, nothing special. It's been said that we may come to outlive our brains and there may have been some of that issue. But no harm - we were relaxing and doing fine. No rush. There are very few Chinese restaurants that are open for dining in the Annapolis, Severna Park, Pasadena area. East West Bistro was open for dinner last night and I went with my wife and my mother. I have been here several times before and have never been disappointed, and last night the food was off the charts. All of us had an incredible meal, the service was friendly and fast and everybody had a sense of humor. Decent food, slow service. Came with some family to try out East-West Bistro. Two companions usually order takeout and swear by the food. Turns out they do a lot of takeout, and combined with the limited waitstaff this makes for pretty slow service; I think we waited 20 minutes to get appetizers. Point is, if you plan to eat in, carve out some time, because this will not be a quick meal. That being said, the food is very good. You may balk at the (slightly higher than other Chinese joints) prices, but the portions are huge; we all had leftovers. The roast pork appetizer was a hit, as were the pork dumplings. I thoroughly enjoyed my spicy green beans dish but also enjoyed sampling the shrimp with asparagus. The Pad Thai was okay. The crispy beef was very tasty, but really sweet, almost like eating candied beef chunks. It was good, but my companion who ordered it eventually had to stop because it was "so rich." I would order takeout from these guys, but probably won't bother with dining in. read more

I was really disappointed on my visit yesterday to this restaurant. It was my first time, and as soon as I walked in, the decor seemed nice, and I saw a man (later found out he was the owner) behind the sushi bar (which seated no people at the moment. I took a carry out menu and stood there for a while, waiting for someone to take my carryout order. After about 5 minutes, the owner (Albert) himself came to help me. I ordered a whole peking duck, kung po shrimp, and hot & crispy beef. After I ordered, a lady came from the kitchen and told him that they were out of duck, which is understandable because I understand that it's a long process to prepare the duck. I ended up ordering the honey sesame chicken instead. However, I wish the owner had known about what was no longer available on the menu. I had recently acquired a $25 gift card for this restaurant, and the fine print/requirements only told me that I needed a $45 minimum to use the gift card. When I asked Albert if I could use it for my order, he said "no. only for dining in." That also was a huge letdown because it did not specify that requirement on the gift card. He then told me it would be about a 15-20 minute wait and he went back to his sushi bar. The biggest disappointment about this trip was that after about 20 minutes, a lady came out with a carry out bag and left it on one of the tables. She told me that my order would be out shortly. However, after another 10 minutes later, I looked up to see Albert check the bag and then he brought it up to me, telling me it was mine. I didn't think twice to ask if it was mine because there were other people going in and out picking up from phone orders. The food itself was average. I agree with the other reviews that the portions were a bit small for the price. There was not a lot of shrimp in the kung po shrimp, and it was very salty. (I tend to season my food a lot, but even this was too much for me...) I guess one positive was that I did enjoy the crispy beef dish. I exchanged my gift card for somewhere else because I don't think I would return. Maybe they just had a bad day... I'm not too sure. read more

Since we have moved to the area 10 years ago we have used this restaurant for lunch, dinner and their Sunday buffet. We have taken many people there and suggested it to so many others. After our experience last Thursday we will not return. We arrived at 3:04 because of a doctor's appointment taking 2 hours. We asked for a lunch menu and were refused because we were 4 minutes too late. We had intended to order lunch and take out but instead we left. We have been good customers if not great customers over the years. If a restraunt thinks so little of me as the customer that they can't extend me the courtesy of 4 minutes when they have only 2 people in the restaurant, they obviously are unconcerned with me as their customer or friend. read more

Let me say that I have been here several times and often order take out from East West, but no more. Today, my wife, daughter and I went in for lunch. Wasn't busy at all. The man from behind the sushi bar that greeted us was great, he took us to our table immediately and set it up. I placed a half full bottle of Coca Cola on my table directly in front of me in plain view of everyone. The man set the table and poured us water. My water glass was directly next to my Coke. The female server came over, took our order and left. She then came back with noodles. Out of nowhere comes this other angry Chinese woman who saw me take a sip of my Coke because the Chinese mustard was hot. She burst over to my table, about 6 feet away in front of other customers and said hastily, "Sir, we sell Coke." I said I was aware of that, but I just bought this from the Dollar Store two doors down and since I had a drink, I didn't feel the need to spend $3 for another Coke. I asked her if I wasn't allowed to have this and she again said, "We sell Coke." I asked again if I wasn't permitted to have this and she said "No, you can't have outside drink" and that I must buy theirs. Well, that wasn't going to happen solely because of her approach to us. I told her to cancel our lunch order then and she said she would. We then walked out. As we were walking out, she was yelling in Chinese to our server who had no idea what was happening. Quite a scene she created. Out of respect for my family and the other customers, I decided not to create a scene myself. They lost a $50 lunch bill over a cup of Coke. To me, that's silly. I can say that from many past experiences here, both eat in and carry out, the food and service was good. Not sure if this angry Chinese lady was in a bad mood or really needed to ensure she made that extra $3? I can tell you one thing for sure; they lost a longtime customer, and I will never be back. (3.5 if I could give it) I've been here a couple times, and even had my high school graduation party catered from here. I think overall, the food is pretty good. The crispy beef is unbelievable (get it without spice if you don't like spicy though), it's by far the best dish they serve. The miso soup is really good as well. The only thing that kind of takes away from their rating is their sushi. I'm a sushi lover so I've tried a majority of their rolls, the special rolls are good but their regular rolls are kind of disappointing. They are pretty small, though it's paired with a decent price. The salmon in their rolls is also inconsistent, sometimes it's good sometimes it's not. If the rolls weren't tiny and the salmon was always good, I would give this place a way better rating. My husband and I stopped in at what used to be our go to for Asian take out. East West Bistro has been our favorite for years. My husband ordered beef with broccoli and unfortunately the beef was so chewy he threw it all away and just ate the broccoli. He said the beef had no flavor as well. We both ordered fried rice and that was also tasteless and no pork was in it. Guess that's why it's just called fried rice instead of pork fried rice on the menu. They've changed it. The egg rolls were filled with greasy oil and cooked to an overdone crisp. They too went in the trash. I got shrimp with mixed veggies and my meal was fantastic. The shrimp were jumbo size and cooked perfectly and had the rice been good too I'd try the restaurant again. We also noticed the online prices were less than what is in the restaurant. Sometimes that's the way though when you order online as it's time consuming to keep a webpage up as times change. It's becoming the norm for restaurants to serve subpar food and ask high prices, including a tip. Eating at home will have to be our go to for Date Night I guess. Feeling Disappointed. read more

Is there a (-star) option? I don't think the cook had ever prepared Chow Fun before. I ordered the Cantonese chow fun for delivery. The noodles arrived (plain) in a separate container - and they used one of those clear plastic containers you would put salad in to put the noodles into. The noodles were so hot, it MELTED THROUGH the plastic (because that plastic is thin, and has a low melting point) , so when I went to remove the container from the bag, half the noodles fell through the (now melted) bottom, and onto the soup container with held the chicken part of the order. I had to toss the rest of noodles because little bits of plastic were now mixed in with the noodles. Soooo.....No noodles for me. I thought I would at least get a meal out of the huge second container they brought, but the rest of the dish (the veg and chicken in "gravy") arrived in a large soup container and it was more sauce than content! I know because in order to even eat any of it, I had to pour out the "gravy" (which was too thick to be a soup, but not thick enough to be anything else - it was completely inedible). What I had left over in chicken and veg didn't even up half of the container. Not to mention, it was a bit on the bland side. So I had some crackers for dinner, that I had with me. And a couple bites of chicken. And tossed out 85% of the "dish". I suggest the owner have a "chat" with their kitchen on this one. read more

We recently moved here and found this place in a shopping center off of Ritchie Hwy. Pros: portions are large and the food is authentic Cantonese, not watered down Americanized Chinese food. The staff are very friendly and service is good. The hot and sour soup was sublime which is often not the case in many suburban Chinese restaurants. The combination fried rice was a steal for only 6.95 including soup. Cons: somewhat slow service. I can't wait to try their other authentic dishes. read more

if I could give 0 stars I would. The manager was snappy and defensive when we approached her nicely and let her know the chicken was in the nicest way put, not up to guidelines. We tried to show her how tough it is to cut through and she said "it looks good so there's nothing I can do". Appearance is all that matters. Food is awesome! Very fresh seafood and good wine selections. A nice place if you want a cheap and high quality Chinese dinner. The decor definitely needs an upgrade though. It's very dark and lacks a modern look. I would also recommend that the owners upgrade their bathroom cleaning routines. read more

The BEST Chinese Dine-in/Carry-out/delivery EVER!! We have been using them for about 10 years now and have always gotten quality and quantity from this gem. They have a wide selection of Chinese and Sushi dishes, and only use the freshest ingredients which allow the Chef to turn it all into a fabulous piping hot meal. They will gladly prepare each dish at the spice level you want but be careful, real spicy food can tend to be a bit overwhelming. One bite into my Red Chicken Curry (Chicken, peppers & onions in a red curry sauce), I knew once again that we would declare this the best Chinese food we've have ever eaten. Real fresh hot food made to order, not prefab like the big guys. The Chicken was moist and tender and the sauce had a very nice kick to it. In the end I can only say that we Love their food, I have tried a lot of different dishes and have not been disappointed. East West Bistro is a can't miss dining experience if you live in the area, we suggest you put this destination on you bucket list. read more

Our favorites: crispy beef, combination lo mein, general tsos, orange chicken, egg rolls, wonton soup, sweet and sour chicken, pepper steak, and I'm probably missing a few others. I like that they will not bread the chicken on something like general tso's chicken upon request: trying to eat a little healthier and this helps. Big portions.
