I was looking for a new Thai option in the area, and based on the reviews we decided to try Eat Thai. It's an attractive place inside, and there were only a few other parties there so the lone waitress didn't have too much trouble taking care of everyone. You get some rice soup to start, it doesn't have much flavor and I'm used to hot and sour soup at Thai places. It took a little bit longer to get our meals. I got the wrong dish the first time, she must have misheard me, but that was quickly corrected. The food was OK, but the heat level was lower than I'd expect for medium and it didn't have much other flavor. It did have a good amount of meat and eggs, which is not the case at some places. It was nicely presented, but I would have liked some more sauce or flavor in the dish rather than just meat and rice and peppers. My other issue is that the prices are on the high side for what you get, and for Thai food in general. read more

Next, we ordered Tom Kha soup, which was particularly tasty and different than any old run-of-the-mill Thai restaurant; it had a uniquely flavored broth with added spice... super delicious, we loved it. Finally, we split panang, their peanut curry dish, as the entree and added broccoli. My boyfriend happens to LOVE a GOOD peanut curry, and is a chef himself. When we tried this peanut curry it was absolutely amazing! Perfectly balanced in peanut flavor, spice, and creaminess. I ordered the papaya salad, which comes out beautifully presented in a wooden motar and pestle and chicken larb. Both were excellent and almost exactly what I would expect to get in Bangkok. The owner, Anthony, has obviously gone to great lengths to source good quality ingredients. Sadly, like other Thai restaurants in the area, they do not have khao hom. But they do have sticky rice - hard to get in a Detroit restaurant. If you're in the area and you love real Thai food, go give Eat Thai a try. This place had a good experience. It's definitely more of a cafe-esque environment that has that setup. The interior decorating is nice with the bamboo decorations, the art on the walls, and other table decorations. I found it to be a nice touch that they serve water in jars. There are so many Thai places opening in the metro Detroit area that's it tough to differentiate some of the older places with the newer ones. I've been to quite a few Thai places in recent months but I know Bangkok Cuisine is the gold standard. The difference between places like Eat Thai and Bangkok are the amount of food and rice served. Many of the newer Thai places serve a cup of rice which might seem little relative to the amount of the dish that is ordered and places like Bangkok serve rice separately and additionally upon request with no additional charge. That being said, this place has its own style and many of the dishes across all Thai places are common. You can't go wrong with fried rice but I like a particular variety exclusive to Bangkok so more often that not, I order Massaman curry at any other Thai place. It tastes really similar to the dish at other places. So that's what I did here. It was a plus that we got complimentary hot and sour soup. It's a little more gingery than I'd have liked but it definitely helped my appetite for the main course. We had a Groupon so we decided to order spring rolls (5 for $4.50) as an appetizer. Those were standard and there's no bamboo shoots or ginger or anything that a kid might not like to be in them (no spices in them). They are standardized and tasted really good. I ordered a medium spiced Massaman curry with chicken ($8.50) and my dad ordered a medium spice Gang Dang curry with chicken ($8.50). I'd say lunch is the meal you'd want to get here because dinner can get pricey. Lunch itself can get pricey if you're into exotic meats like shrimp, calimari, mussels, and other seafood. Chicken, beef, pork, tofu, and veggies with your dish of choice is typically either $8.50 to $9.50. You might be shelling out anywhere from $10.50 to $15 on any meat at dinner prices or the seafood at lunch prices if that convinces you what are the more reasonable options. There were no shrimp chips so I was a little disappointed. All in all, it's a standard Thai place depending on how often and well-versed you are with Thai cuisine and restaurants. I'm only familiar with a handful of dishes that have become my favorites over the years so it's up to each person to decide what dishes they like and which place they like to eat it. Eat Thai might make certain dishes better than other places and vice versa. But if you come here, you're bound to have a nice experience!!! read more

This is the best pad Thai I've had (when they get it right) aside from Bangkok since moving to the area. However I'm rating three stars based on the inconsistency of the food aside and the inconsistency of the spice. The honey chicken, wings, and salad rolls have always been great. However I've ordered the garlicky and the cashew chicken two separate times and they have been different. Second time around my garlicky has zero spice when asked for medium so it had no flavor whatsoever when the first time it was peppery and great, the almond same issue. When it comes to my pad Thai I like a kick. I order medium but every now and then it will have the same issue, no spice, no flavor. Eat Thai is good! Consistent-- pricy :( but feeds myself and the Hubs (two meals) for three days or so. The spice levels are adequate and the flavor is amazing compared to other Thai food I have eaten. We have tried many other Thai places in the greater Macomb county area. Yes, they are good as well but not as great as Eat Thai. My only (and this is kinda minute) is that they do not have a delivery service. I'm a millenial and have a kazillion things to do (not really.. we just prefer delivery for convenience) and do not always have time to order, wait 20 minutes, drive 15 minutes back just to eat. I think the owners should consider this for those who want EAT THAI all the time :) read more
