My friend recommended this place to me; my bf and I decided to come for our anniversary. My favorite appetizer that we had were the portobello fries. The crunch on them & sauce for them was amazing. We also really loved our entrees- the short rib grilled cheese & ribeye. The entrees came with garlic chips and my first reaction was chips?? but I was so shocked that the chips are made in-house and super airy, crispy & flavorful. I also loved the sauces for our steak- we got a mushroom sauce and the charred onion sauce. The complimentary ice cream they gave us was also really good. The only thing that I wouldn't get again was the steak tartare, it was dry (surprisingly) and underwhelming. Aside from food, all of the servers and bussers were super friendly! My 2 friends and I arrived at 130pm on a Saturday and did not have to wait to be seated. The ambience was nice, we were greeted as soon as we arrived. We ordered cocktails, champagne and rose - which were brought out soon and those were the best part of our visit. Our waiter was thoughtful enough to ask about food allergies. I wanted to order lunch but found out that they only sell breakfast and brunch until 3pm and the regular menu isn't available until 4pm. This was extremely disappointing. The next disappointing aspect of this visit is that one of my friends ordered a salad ($16) and was asked if she wanted to add protein. She said yes and asked for shrimp. When her plate came out, she had TWO pieces of shrimp ($12). When asked if this was correct, our waiter said yes and that he didn't want to inform her of the quantity when she ordered as that is what she wanted to eat. My friend would have gone with another protein had she known TWO shrimp would be $12. My Greek salad was average and the chicken was thin and dry. Do not recommend unless you are extremely hungry and have no other options and need a quick bite. I left still feeling hungry. The kale salad was lack lustre- they used huge pieces of Dino kale that was difficult to chew. Best plate we ordered were the roasted potatoes, bell peppers and onions. Will not be back. If you are unfamiliar with the area, "Echo & Rig" is located within Golden 1 Center. You can also say it's located within / adjacent to the lobby of the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel. I myself was unfamiliar with the brand. I was surprised to learn that Echo & Rig has locations in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada as well. On this occasion, I ordered: an Echo gin & tonic ($14); a Ceasar Salad ($14); and a Zabuton Steak ($37). With tax ($5.69), my ticket was $70.69 before gratuity. The salad was very good. The serving size was reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. The dressing had a good taste and texture. The vegetables were nicely chilled. The Zabuton steak is also known as a Denver cut. Regardless of the name, I have not had this cut of beef before. The meat was prepared well; and it had good taste and texture. I won't say that it's my new favorite; but it was a nice change from the cuts I usually order. I dined alone at the bar. Another stellar dining experience in Sacramento. Echo & Rig offers a wide array of shareable plates and sides. We tried the Sweet Fire Cauliflower, Portobello Fries, Crab Cake, Roasted Winter Squash, and the Bibb Salad. Our favorites were the Bibb Salad and the Portobello Fries. For our main course, we chose the Zabuton steak, cooked to a perfect medium rare. All of their steaks are grilled over white oak, which gives the meat a distinctive smokiness and depth of flavor. I often find that steaks can be either over-seasoned or under-seasoned, but this one was spot on. They offer sauces on the side--we selected the charred onion and blue cheese--but the steak was so flavorful on its own that we didn't want to mask it. The service was first-rate. Managers stop by to greet every table, and our server was personable and very knowledgeable about the menu. All of the staff were professional and friendly. We did a walk in on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm and it was pretty empty (if we came an hour later; it would have been packed though). As for food; we got the portobello fries, bone marrow carne asada, steakhouse salad and the tomahawk steak. The portobello fries were AMAZING! It was so flavorful, juicy and went well with the sauce. The bone marrow carne asada also did not disappoint. I couldn't taste much of the bone marrow but the carne asada was cooked well. The steakhouse salad was also perfect! It came with heirloom tomatoes and a pieces of steak which went great with the tomahawk steak. We ordered the 51 ounce. It was around $3 something an ounce so it was a $158 steak oop! We were pretty full by the time the steak came out so we didn't get to finish it but it was cooked perfectly. I recommend trying all the sauces that came with it. Overall, it was a great experience! My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Echo & Rig two nights in a row during our stay at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, and both nights proved to be just as enjoyable; despite the first night starting off a little rocky.Upon being seated, we were handed brunch menus instead of dinner menus. After flagging down a hostess to request the correct menu, everything else went smoothly. First Night: Appetizers - calamari and sweet chili cauliflower. Both were well-prepared, crispy, and flavorful. For his entrée, my husband ordered the lamb chops, which were cooked to perfection, tender, and full of flavor. I opted for the boneless ribeye, but I was left a bit underwhelmed. The steak was thinner than I expected, lacked a standout flavor, and wasn't anything spectacular. In hindsight, I'm thinking the bone-in ribeye might have been a better choice. On a sweeter note, we had mentioned in our reservation that we were celebrating my husband's birthday, and the server surprised us with a delightful ice cream sundae to finish off the meal. It was delicious and was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. Second Night: The next evening, we decided to try a different selection of dishes. We shared some mac & cheese, crab cake, and samosa cigars, all of which were tasty and satisfying. My husband chose the halibut, which, although slightly overcooked, still had a nice flavor. I decided to go for the bone-in pork chop, and it was a real winner - juicy, perfectly cooked, and with a wonderful depth of flavor. We arrived for a friend's birthday party. The wait for the drinks was incredibly long and the wait for the food was even longer. We had a big group and about 3 of us ordered mashed potatoes, but then we were told they were out. They replaced it with an interesting kale spinach salad. I was not the biggest fan of it. I was confused because later during the dinner they ended up bringing out the mashed potatoes? I ordered a drink called "Dress to Empress", but if you like the taste of a very flowery perfume like drink then maybe it's for you. I did not enjoy it unfortunately. The meal itself was yummy, I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was pretty loud and stuffy when we arrived. One of the servers opened a nearby door to let air circulate because of how warm it was inside. The bathrooms are also located away from the restaurant, closer to the lobby of the hotel entrance. You see, just lots of good! Service is excellent and is what you would expect for a higher end restaurant. It's best to make reservations if possible. You can easily make reservations via OpenTable. Without reservations, if there's a big event going on at the Golden 1 Center, you most likely can only get first come, first serve bar seating. The service timing is what brought the experience down. Our drinks took quite a while to arrive, and the check was brought out while we were still eating. The waiter said it was "so you don't have to wait on me," but it felt premature. I let it sit there for a bit, and he came back asking if we were ready to take care of it even though we were still finishing our meal. After I paid and filled out the receipt, he returned and picked it up while we were still eating, which made the whole experience feel rushed. We usually have a great meal and experience at ER at DOCO, Sacramento. This past time wasn't as great. Our steaks were barely warm and they were completely out of bourbon. Flavor was good, it was juicy, but for the money it was so small and thin. Also the cut had so much fat throughout. Not marbly fat, but the grisly texture that you can't eat. I kept having to pull pieces of fat out of my mouth with my napkin. Sigh. The house made chips that come with the steak are blah. I left most on my plate. The service was friendly and attentive - our waitress was new so she was still in training, but she did a phenomenal job.
