I'm very disappointed just had a very very unethical and unresponsive trailer inspection and "work" done on my dump trailer. I've use Eckhart's trailer in the past and had no issues however, maybe this is the theme of what's going on in the company right now ? The LA shop Closed I'm not surprised. They charged over $2000 to replace all of my brake rotor electrical and pads --after 2 1/2 weeks of having my trailer, the trailer still does not work and I decided after picking it up the second time of them trying to fix it to take it to another trailer shop. Come to find out the only thing they replaced was the brake pads them self not the full break set up. $400 at most of work completed ! I've called JASON the store "manager" multiple times at the shop and even swung by to see him in person in which he told me he was gonna call me the next day and admitted that they didn't put on the right set up for my trailer which I was very surprised to hear . He kept insisting the problem was my truck that I use however, we have three trucks with the company that we use and none of the trucks worked with the trailer. We spent our own time to figure this out. It was the work that they "didn't" do--yet charged me for . This was last Friday and he promised to call and did not call. I just called again (now writing this review) and waited on hold for 20 minutes. I don't know what's going on but --terrible service, terrible work and unethical billing (lied and over billed for work not completed ) which I'm still trying to resolve right now. I was told to call a corporate phone number and or text that phone number. I have multiple times with no response over the course of a week and a half. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

These folks are the best at what they do. They are foremost "Dyed in The Wool" metal workers. I have never seen so many Millermatic Welding machines in one place. Very different from other trailer hitch companies. They truly customize the hitch to your needs. Many of today's vehicle designs do not recommend towing. These folks can enginneer, cut and weld steel to recreate the ability to tow for these vehicles. They have done that for my Prius and Volt. The Volt now has the ability to tow 3500 lbs max. Very unique In most cases they can offer a lifetime guarantee on workmanship. Needless to say I'm impressed. You will be too. PS. They now have a young female that joined the crew. I have looked to Eckharts for my hitch and lumber rack needs since 1971. They have never let me down. I purchased a heavy duty e-bike rack, and they assembled and installed it for me with a new hitch on my Lexus LS430. They are not the cheapest company around, but they do their work correctly and stand by it. Most of the old school good guys are now gone, but Ekharts continues on with the same quality and service they have always provided, which is definitely worth more in the long haul. I can't say enough good things about this place. First of all they gave me a reasonable estimate for putting a hitch receiver on my minivan to hold E bikes. They were fast and the quality seems great. When I got my bike rack the pin was too big, probably a manufactures defect. I came by in the morning to see if they could drill the hole bigger and they gave me a new pen with a lock at no charge saving me the hassle of trying to get a new one from the bike rack company. Wanted to get a 5th wheel installed with the rails and they wanted to charge $1800 really , they said the parts are expensive , when I offered to buy only the universal kit for my f250 they wanted $500 for the rails alone I found them brand new B&W online fit for my truck for $240 or universal ones for $180 , this guys might weld right not there they are rip offs read more

I own a Tesla and had quite a hard time finding someone who even knew how to put a hitch on my vehicle. Tesla doesn't do it, and while uhaul said they could, the installer said he had actually never done one before and the kit they were ordering would take 8 weeks to get here. I didn't want to have anyone practice on my car, so when I found Exkhardts, I knew they were the ones I would go with. They make all of their hitches on site and they assured me the hitch would be unobtrusive. True to their word, it looks great. They were very professional, and although pricey, you get what you pay for. If you have a standard vehicle, you could probably have it done cheaper elsewhere, but for more specialized needs, this place is definitely the place to go. If you would like to get ripped off, this is your place. Approximately three weeks ago I went in and physically brought my vehicle for an inspection and a verbal quote of how much it would cost to install a new hitch on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Katie inspected my vehicle and notified me the hitch would need to be fabricated, and the cost would be $415.00. I booked an appointment several weeks later to have the hitch done. I cleared my calendar as I was going to move things around and wait for the work to be done in their waiting room. Upon dropping the vehicle, I was notified that it would cost and additional $130 for the existing (Bolt on) hitch to be removed. I told Katie this was never mentioned previously, and I was under the impression the full cost would be $415. I asked her why she did not mention this when she quoted me several weeks prior. There was no explanation. Due to the unannounced cost escalation, I did not have the work done and I left. Later that day, I went to Mike's Paradise Hitch a few miles away, and he inspected the vehicle and notified me that I did not need a new hitch at all. Don't fall for the bait and switch. read more

Great business here. I got a hitch added to my Kia Sedona van a few years ago. They worked quickly and their work was reliable and solid. They were courteous and explained what they were doing, educating me and never making me feel stupid. Recently, I needed a ball and ball mount for my new truck. First review of my life. Do not go here. Only if you'd like to pay another shop to redo it correctly. The quality of the work I received can only be described as a "hack job." They welded onto inappropriate frame points, cut away a part of the frame (in what seems like an effort to more easily reach bolts) and also only reinstalled half of the factory bolts. HAD TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY AND FILE A LAW SUIT TO GET THEM TO PAY UP, BUT THEY PAID ! DANGEROUS AND RECKLESS....$20,000 in damage: I was sold into having Ekhart install a hitch on my Cayenne SUV based on their experience, telling me the others were overpriced and didn't know what they were doing. In fact, Ekhart was hundreds of dollars more but a thousand less than the dealership. They attached their hitch, by bolting it to a hole they drilled in the floor board and welding it to the stamped metal frame holding the low impact collapsing bumper. First time out, I caught a beam in a garage at about 10mph. That did $2,000 damage to the "empty" trailer. IT DID $20,000 (TWENTY THOUSAND) IN DAMAGE TO MY SUV WHILE THE HITCH STAYED IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION. EKHART BYPASSED THE HITCH MOUNTING POINTS IN FRAME AND ATTACHED IT TO PARTS OF THE SUV THAT WERE NEVER INTENDED TO CARRY A HITCH ( A MOVING BUMPER FRAME AND THIN STAMPED FLOOR BOARD!). THANKFULLY, I WASN'T PULLING A FULL LOAD UP A GRADE AND IN TRAFFIC WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENED. I contacted Ekhart and they said they install all their hitches that way: and wrote: "the hitch performed exactly as expected, it absorbed the energy of the impact.". And... it tore apart the back end of my SUV and lost the trailer at only 10mph while the hitch itself stayed in near perfect condition. Eckhart's is great. If you own a car, this is the only place you can go in Thousand Oaks to get a hitch welded to your frame. You can go to Uhaul but they will install a super-ugly 1 1/4th inch hitch and not a 2". These guys are straight shooters and do, as far as I can tell, great work. Maybe it's not perfect, but you don't technically need to weld the hitch to the frame--U-haul just bolts it. Anyway, I'm happy. My hitch is low-profile too. read more

I've been into riding bicycles my entire life. I have managed bike shops and have done a lot of other things in my life and there is no other substitute for quality and reliability. Eckharts has been around a long long time and there is a reason. Quality, friendly knowledgeable staff and a local business. Uhaul does hitches but there is NO comparison. I would not trust anyone else especially hauling something from a bike to a boat. Just ask any bike, motorcycle, or boat shop who does great work. This place does the job right! I made the mistake of having u-haul install my hitch on my jetta, and was scraping botton for years until I sold the car. With my VW EOS I wanted to attach a bike rack to my convert-able. I found a good cheap bike rack with a 2" hitch. Its sort of large for a small car, but they created a cutout in the car perfectly to conceal that hitch into the bumper and got the custom placement perfect. I would never have gotten such a good install with anything that was pre-fab. These guys are the best. I've had good experiences at Granada Hills location and Thousand Oaks. For many years, best reputation around for hitch installation. So of course I went to Eckhart. After it was installed I noticed a loud rattle that I attributed to the kayak rack roller on the roof. Guess I should have crawled underneath my car but didn't know I had to as I trusted the job was done right. When I finally figured out that it wasn't the rack and took my car back to have the bumper etc re-secured, I was told "too bad you should have done this sooner". The worker found a stray bolt that he tried to insert to hold it but it still rattles like crazy. So guess the work isn't warrantied as advertised. Sure disappointed. read more
