We used Eco Caters for our San Diego wedding. From the beginning, Adam, Emily and Lauren were incredibly easy to work with, responsive and thorough. We opted for a day of wedding coordinator, but the staff was involved well before our big day - helping connect with our other vendors, organizing our timelines, all while keeping us well informed. We opted for hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour and a buffet style dinner for our wedding reception. The food was incredible! Our guests could not stop talking about the amazing local fish burritos and blueberry chipotle chicken. In addition to the delicious meal, the Eco Caters staff at our event provided acceptional, professional, and friendly service. We were especially impressed with Emily, our day of coordinator who was extremely punctual, calm, courteous and accomodating throughout the entire event. Eco Caters catered my wedding and they were excellent!! The food was absolutely amazing and many of my guests told me how much they liked it. (We had herb crusted sirloin, grilled chicken with mango & avocado, garlic mashed potatoes, grilled farmers market vegetables, antipesto and fruit & cheese.) The sirloin was the top hit, grilled to perfection. It was just really impressive. In my experience, wedding food is never that good. I expected it to be good because I had done a taste test, but it ended up even better than I imagined. The serving staff were super awesome. Very in the moment and helpful. I also used them for the "day of" coordination package. Totally worth it. I did all the footwork on finding the vendors and telling them what I wanted and then I gave all the data to Lauren at Eco Caters and I literally didn't have to worry about it again. She handled everything. She also ran our schedule and made sure we did everything and that it ran smoothly. Only thing I would warn people who are not familiar with the event planning, their quote does not include rentals (plates, silverware, glasses, extra tables, etc.) so I would ask them for that from the beginning. My rentals were another $3400 that I didn't expect and I didn't know until after I'd signed the contract and paid the deposit. Overall, they still deserve 5 stars. I went to a wedding catered by EcoCaters and had a vegan menu that was not vegan. There was chicken in one of the dishes and heavy cream used. Not to mention the food wasn't very appetizing. If you're a vegan you should probably steer clear of this company, they clearly don't stick to standards. It's probably the worst catered food I've ever had. read more

Being in the service industry for 10+ years, we thought we struck gold after finishing our tasting with Eco for our wedding. We loved the staff we started working with and the food was great. We signed the contract the following day - in full detail of food, service, etc. A week after we signed the contract, we received an email from Michelle, a different employee than we had worked with. Michelle told us that what we signed for in the contract wouldn't work because we "didn't have the money for it" and we'd need to change everything because what Eco had agreed to meant our "food would spoil...unless we wanted the food to spoil, then they could keep the contract the same." After two weeks of trying to get in touch with her after that email, and about two weeks of trying to work with her after that, we moved everything to the San Diego Eco team in hopes of still having Eco cater our wedding. We held on to the hope that Michelle didn't accurately represent Eco Catering. Emily, in SD, was awesome, she laid everything out in black and white, helped us understand why the miscommunication had happened and re-quoted us so we could think about it. However, it was still THREE TIMES what we signed the original contract for and we weren't getting the food we tried. We tried getting in touch with Emily for about two weeks after that first meeting, and when we finally heard back, we canceled all together with Eco because it wasn't what we wanted our wedding to be anymore and we felt pretty unsettled with the customer service at this point - the miscommunications, Michelle, and untimely responses from employees. To top it off, not one penny of our deposit was returned. The Eco team said "we already invested that much money into you - so we can't return it." Even though we had driven to LA and paid $65 for a tasting, driven to SD to talk to Emily, gone through the stress of providing email proof to the SD team of Michelle's inappropriate behavior so we could transfer everything, and even after they signed a contract to commit to something and couldn't follow through. I recently contact them for an event. I spoke to them about the menu options, they took down information on the venue, my phone number, asked about allergies and told me they were available. I was told I'd received a proposal by end of day. Everthing seemed great and very professional. Except I never received the proposal. I called the next day. They said once again that they would have it sent to by end of day. But no proposal once again. I called yet again! Left a message. Then 3 days prior to event they leave a voice mail stating that they can not do the event. Unbelievable! Unprofessional! Unacceptable! Check your calendar before committing to an event. It's not a lot to expect! When organizing events you absolutely need reliable people to work with. Definitely do not rely on this company! read more

My husband and I got married 3 weeks ago at the Houdini Estate in West Hollywood and EcoCaters catered the wedding. They were fantastic! The food was fresh, delicious and it was beautifully presented. The staff was very patient and attentive. We felt really supported by them both during the weeks of pre-planning and during the event. They noted down our preferences--like that we love soft cheeses-- and they put a special plate of soft cheese together for my husband and I and had it ready for us when we took a break away from the guests after the ceremony to sign our marriage certificate. Those little things really made us feel that they were invested in making sure we had the best possible food experience at our wedding. And we got lots of comments from guests about the food being great. Plus, there was one other thing that a thought REALLY set EcoCaters apart from the other caterers I talked to. They respected our budget and worked with us to do everything they could to keep costs down while still serving fantastic food! Our wedding was small - 45 people. We wanted it to be beautiful and elegant, but didn't have tons of money to spend. So we set a budget for the different aspects of the wedding and tried to save up. When it come time to choose a caterer, I contacted about 6 catering companies and gave them our budget. Every single caterer, except EcoCaters, came back with a 'personalized' menu fitting exactly what we asked for, but the cost was WAY over our stated budget. Thousands of dollars over our budget. When I spoke to those companies they went on and on about how you only get married once and you should really spend more money. I found that really frustrating. Don't encourage me to go into massive debt for a 1 day event! Anyway, EcoCaters put a menu together for us that fit our budget exactly. I was thrilled! We went for a tasting, which was wonderful so we decided to go with them! One thing I would suggest to make the payment process smoother would be a way to pay by credit card online. Since all the EcoCaters staff have their hands full with event planning, it would be easier if there was a way to pay that didn't involve getting an EcoCaters staff person on the phone to give the credit card number to. read more

I wish I could give them 10 stars!! My husband and I hired Eco Caters to cater and provide day-of-coordination services for our wedding in LA. They helped us create a beyond delicious menu for our wedding that infused the basic market-fresh food that we loved but still made it special and new for our guests. Eco created a mini chicken and waffle bite and plantain empanadas for our cocktail hour at our request... to die for! For our family-style dinner the salads were amazing, the steak was still pink in the middle (just like we like it), and everything came out quickly and hot. They helped us create a few special options for some vegan guests and our late night sliders/fries/shakes were a huge hit (definitely try the pastrami option). We also opted for a mint water/agua fresca/Arnold Palmer beverage bar and late night coffee which all of our guests loved. Their day-of-coordination services were top-notch as well and definitely not limited to just the day-of (Dana was our person but Michelle is equally awesome!). I always felt comfortable emailing questions and knew that all of the projects that I worked on leading up to the wedding were in super capable hands the day of. The setup of all of our centerpieces, dessert table, flowers, etc. was better than I could have dreamed of. And the whole night ran smoothly in Dana's hands! If my husband would let me plan another wedding we would definitely hire Eco! Since that probably won't happen I may just need to convince them to let me pay for a tasting each year around our anniversary so we can have the same fabulous food again! read more

My daughter and son-in-law were married on September 30, 2017, in Griffith Park at their Star Wars themed wedding. Nicole, Lauren, and Christine were absolutely wonderful! The whole team was cheerful and so helpful. Lauren checked up on our planning progress several times during the year before the wedding and offered help and suggestions for whatever we needed, even though we hadn't hired them as event coordinators. The bride and groom had insisted on strictly vegan food for the reception, which made me a little nervous that the guests would be disappointed. To the contrary, everyone loved the food! We attended a wedding at the Ahmanson Ranch with Eco Caters. The food was not bad but certainly not great. Our friend who was the DJ showed me his vendor meal- it was rice and watery beans. You'd think they would at least give the DJ some of the steak they fed us guests (which was not great), but clearly this is a company that has so much business that they stopped caring. My cousin the bride, and her groom asked for some food to take home (like alot of brides and grooms, they were too busy to eat during their wedding) and they were told that there was none left. Meanwhile while walking through the house earlier I saw the wait staff munching on steak. Just a bad vibe from these caterers. Eco Caters catered our wedding at the SmogShoppe two weeks ago, and we absolutely loved everything about our experience. We chose Eco because of the amazing 5 star reviews on Yelp, and we were not disappointed. The contact with the company has always been incredibly easy and smooth. The food was absolutely exquisite; all of our guests keep raving about how much they loved the food. We were actually concerned about the food not tasting as good as it did during the tasting, since we heard that is a common problem with a lot of catering companies. Of course it is quite different to produce 100 plates instead of 2, so quality is often lost. However, the food at the actual wedding exceeded our expectations. It was just as amazing, if not more delicious than what we remembered. The hors d'oeuvres were incredible; the mojo shrimp, scallop, and gougere with bacon, arugula, and pickled onion were to die for. They disappeared within seconds. Even the cheese plates were subliminal. The plated food was also quite memorable. The whole experience was more than what we hoped for, and we are forever grateful. The Eco Caters team was always courteous, professional, accommodating, and amazing since the very beginning. We even hired their day-of-coordination service, which also exceeded our expectations. Lauren was just truly amazing. She went above and beyond at all times and did so much work (not just the day of); we couldn't believe it. Our family members kept commenting how much this woman was working nonstop! Lauren was absolutely fabulous, and we can't thank her enough for everything she did to make sure everything went smoothly. I'm paranoid whenever I see a business with nothing but 5 star reviews, but trust me, Eco Caters has earned it. I got married at The 1909 last month and Lauren was my (super amazing) point person. Catering was easily the most overwhelming part of the process for me simply because there are SO many options in LA and it's such a big price tag, you want to get what you pay for. Lauren was SO responsive the entire time (and had an out-of-office letting you know when she was working a busy weekend so you weren't left hanging), walked me through every tiny detail from the trash can rentals to the disposable fork options to the timeline. These are not fun things to plan by any means but she made it easy and was always always helpful, via email or phone or whatever I wanted. We had a coordinator as well but you might not even need one if you work with Lauren. On the day of, the food was absolutely delicious and got tons of compliments, and I barely noticed they were there (which is what you want, trust me) besides when it was time to eat. They were there all day setting up, cleaning up, etc and I was able to relax and have the time of my life. Thank you Lauren and Eco Caters!! read more

They were prompt, organized, dealt with hardship gracefully when our water went out for a few minutes, and the food was delicious and loved by everybody! I went to a close friend's memorial service recently and it was catered by eco caters. I was pleasantly surprised how elegant and lovely it was in her garden patio. I loved their presentation.....elegant, simple and beautiful without being over the top....the team was kind, personable and present to guests and best of it all was that I loved the food. I've never liked any food @ parties/events. Being a designer and a cooking teacher I am very particular. I ate everything numerous times I felt guilty but it was yummy and knew the fresh ingredients were organic, locally harvested and raised. What a great celebration it was!! My friend's wedding was catered by Eco at a house in Malibu. They by far served the best wedding food I've ever had. The servers were really great and they started by tray passing some hors d' oeuvres for the cocktail hour. I can't remember all of them, but the duck confit sopapillas were brought out with a jalapeno butter and were so good. The kids were eating them like donuts. They also served bacon wrapped dates stuffed with blue cheese. When we sat for dinner each table had a beautiful baked brie presented with crostini, honeycomb and housemade fig, apricot and raspberry preserves. For dinner we ate braised short ribs, beautiful salt and pepper deep fried chicken, organic (and not over cooked) vegetables, and a truffle mac n' cheese. Everything was very delicious and cooked to perfection. I know I'm missing some dishes because we were basically eating all night. Their bar staff carried out the rest of evening flawlessly. This is a review of Eco Caters from a different perspective (I am not a wedding guest or client), but one that I think reflects on certain problems with this caterer. I am a vendor who works weddings (vendors include photographers, DJs, planners, etc.) and have observed on more than one occasion that whenever I work a wedding where Eco Caters is, the vendor meals are horrendous. Most caterers will let us eat the same top-notch food as the guests, after they have had their fill. They will usually set up a vendor buffet in the back so that we can eat too and get back to work. But Eco always feeds us what looks like prison food. Last wedding I worked with them they pointed us to a dirty trough of watery mush (not sure what they called it, but it looked like it came out of a big can) and bland rice and expected us to eat it, then they turned around and charged the client $17.95 per vendor meal! Me and the other vendors all looked at each other with a smirk and ordered a pizza. It's nice when a caterer treats fellow vendors with respect rather than treating us as 3rd class prison inmates. We just got married at the Smog Shoppe and one of the very best parts of our wedding was working with Eco Caters. I worked with Lauren throughout the process, who is an absolute dream!!! She made the whole planning part so fun and easy. She was super responsive and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is handled and answered. Not only did she help with all our food and beverage needs but also tackled all of our rentals for us. I literally could go on forever about how great she was, but lets get down to the other half of why we love them so much. THE FOOD, was amazing!! We did a Sunday Funday Brunch wedding and I have never been to a better brunch buffet. At our tasting Nick came out and explained every dish he was serving and how he prepped everything. He even went as far as telling us which farms they sourced different food from. With his passion alone we knew we were in for a treat. You know its good food when people come up to you at the wedding to tell you how nice everything is, but the food is amaaaazing!! We were not the only ones glad we hired them but each of our guests still are talking about how great the food and the staff was. During the entire wedding planning process, these ladies were calm and supportive. They had great (gorgeous) ideas even though they were never pushy with them. I have used Eco Caterers twice. The first time was for my 60th birthday dinner. I found them on line while looking for a caterer that used "organic", seasonal foods. I selected them without sampling their food because after meeting them, their knowledge and upbeat attitude impressed me so much that I knew they would be good. Eco caters provided the food and non-alcoholic beverages for our San Diego/La Jolla wedding this past weekend. We have some serious foodie friends and family, and all of them said it was the best wedding food they had ever had. They raved over the cheeses and the brisket...my mom is still talking about the brisket a week later. You could cut it with a fork. The stone fruit was incredible. We also added on some mint infused water and lemonade before the ceremony at Emily's suggestion, and it was a great one...our guests were so thankful in the summer heat. The wait staff was fun and attentive, and they even remembered to make me a little salad without cheese, as I'm allergic to it.
