We hired Eco Minded for a backyard project associated with a pool we were putting in. They were responsible for the hardscape, grill, plumbing, fireplace, wall redesign/stucco and some landscaping. We are thrilled with the work they performed! Starting with the communication before we signed, Barry was soooo responsive. We were evaluating 3 bids, but Barry was just the best. Professional, personal, responsive, creative. He really worked with us to get us what we wanted. Then as the work started, Jesus lead the project and he's just a great, hardworking guy. Called Gustavo on 12/9/19 to confirm appt for 12/10/19 and all was good with him. 12/10/19 Gustavo no-shows with no call. I contacted the office to verify if he was coming. They stated based on lack of availability but they never gave another option in terms of timing. I am in the service industry and find this completely unacceptable and unprofessional. The quality of the blue prints was fantastic and were approved by our HOA in less than 2 weeks! We hired their team because of their "eco minded" approach to landscaping and designing of backyards that was not only drought tolerant, but also comprised of attractive native landscape. They were also able to design hardscape, including a stairway and deck which added utilization to our otherwise unusable backyard hillside. We worked with Eco Minded Solutions for the complete design and build of our home. We had an old cottage style house that we built into a truly custom mid-mod home that we are now very happy with and really enjoying. I am thrilled with how my yard turned out. Ecominded Solutions turned my vision into reality and I honestly couldn't be happier. From the beginning Todd, the designer, was super responsive and helpful. He listened to everything I wanted and continued to make changes to the plans until they were perfect. I'm very particular and he never got frustrated with me and was always happy to revise the plans until I was satisfied. I haven't done a project like this before, but Todd made it a fairly easy experience. When it came time for construction, the guys were on time, worked hard, and kept things on track. All of it was overseen by one of the owners of the company, Dave, who also wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with the job. When there were mistakes or miscommunications or even just things that didn't look right, which I knew invariably would happen, they fixed them. Todd stayed involved during this time and continued to make sure that things were running smoothly which I thought was very helpful. One other bonus is that they work with a lot of excellent vendors who they had me work with directly. Some of the vendors gave me discounts because I worked with EMS. EMS could have easily been the middle man and profited off of my orders with these other companies themselves, but instead they tried to make my money go as far as possible and stay within my budget. read more

Wouldn't say they're the best or the worst, and had them do our front and back yard for demo, installing plants and irrigation. The blueprint process was far better than the construction phase, as the trees selected for our home were species that we would've never thought of and do work well with our space. If I had to do it all over again, I would consider completing a blueprint but then receiving bids from contractors / vendors that specialize in their respective trades: plantings directly from a nursery, another contractor specifically for irrigation, etc. read more

The initial planning with this company went well. However, this being our first professional project, the understanding of what is stated in the contract and what is delivered has been educational. First, this company will not do anything that is not expressly stated in the contract once signed. Go over your landscape plan and contract with them line by line and clarify any gaps. The verbal discussions you have do not replace what is in writing. Get them to update the contract to reflect those gaps. This means that you should specify the type and brand of materials in explicit detail ( mulch brand, lighting brand, etc). Focus on site preparations and specific steps and details of that site preparation with this company. We had Bermuda grass before and we still have Bermuda grass growing along the drip lines of our xeric landscape. Plant quality review and inspection (substitute plants) prior to planting should be addressed in the contract. You are going to get a lien notice from the nursery when you receive delivery of the plants. Not sure what that is about, since it is the least cost part of the project, but it certainly gets your attention. Do not be surprised when it happens to you. Onsite supervision was lacking for our project and we were not at home. If you can not be there, it would be worth it to hire someone who can be there during the job. There was very little communication during project execution. We did like their problem solving solutions around electrical and water access. They focused on the desired results with minimum complications. Our landscape design was intended to be minimal maintenance for us but that is not the case for the reasons mentioned above. read more

I never imagined that doing a landscaping job would be an enjoyable experience, but the landscape team at Eco Minded Solutions made this whole process very exciting and fun. We literally started with nothing except a few tumble weeds in the backyard and it is now a gorgeous oasis on the golf course. Barry did the design and it was really perfect for the space. He knew exactly what we were looking for with only a brief explanation. We put in a covered patio and beautiful pavers with a fire pit area and a viewing area of the golf course. I can''t say enough about how great the guys are who did the work. We actually enjoyed having them here every day. The neighbors even came over to complement us on how unobtrusive the whole team had been. Everyone was really polite and thoughtful. They started every day at 7am and they were as quiet as possible. We worked with Eco Minded Solutions recently to redesign our backyard and couldn't be happier with the results! After mowing nearly 3000 sqft of once pristine blue grass for nearly three decades, we watched it succumb to crabgrass, rabbits, drought, and crushing water bills. Serendipitously, we discovered Eco Minded Solutions who transformed a field of unkempt turf into a magical landscape. Shayna, a delightful person with an undergraduate degree in landscape design, met us at a time convenient for our work schedules. Two weeks later, she provided us a detailed and amazing blueprint that far exceeded our expectations. We requested minor revisions through several emails to which Shayna responded promptly and effectively. The construction crew arrived as promised, worked diligently, agreeably made on-the-spot revisions, and left the site in fastidious condition daily. Six weeks later, we had a park-like setting with pleasing berms, boulders, cobble creek beds traversed by a wooden bridge, and lighted wandering paths of soft decomposed granite and gravel. The centerpiece is a showcase Gold Medallion tree within a planter made from natural field stone. The plant palette is inspired with over sixteen drought tolerant species including pink muhly, crape myrtle, rock purselane, red fountain grass, orange sedge, copper canyon daisy, and blue chalk sticks. All are nourished by an efficient sub-surface drip irrigation system covered by attractive bark. Our field had been transformed into a relaxing haven that attracts a bevy of butterflies and hummingbirds. Eco MInded Solutions has continued to oversee their creation and correct minor issues without hesitation. We are extremely happy with the extensive remodel and a ground floor extension of our La Jolla home Eco Minded Solutions did for us. They completely changed the flow and character of our home. Eco Minded Solutions gave an honest bid with all costs broken out in great detail. They were significantly less expensive than other companies we were also considering. I particularly value the "can do" attitude that Josh Rosenthal instills in his workers. They guided us throughout the process, and followed through with all of their obligations. Throughout the process, the staff/crew were professional and friendly and easy to have around (we were living in the house during part of the project). I also appreciated that they were always on the lookout for ways to improve the project, make it simpler to do and less expensive, without sacrificing quality. The final product is amazing, finished on time and on budget. They absolutely stand behind their work and if you have a question or a concern they are incredibly responsive. We got a recommendation from our neighbors and asked Eco Minded Solutions for a quick proposal. That alone gave us a good feeling about the end to end process. We decided to go with them for our landscape design. They came to take more details from our backyard and listen to our needs. They provided a professional drawing with detailed selection of plants and trees. The result was almost perfect from the beginning, we just adjusted a few plants. We were told that the project would take less than 4 weeks and it would be a continuous project. They delivered as promised. The work started mid July and completed in a little over 3 weeks as planned. We had an issue with the grout on the first day and the principal immediately took action to have it removed and redone the same week without delaying the project. At the end the result, the result is beautiful and we are very satisfied. We decided to also do the front yard with them. Work to come soon... What we liked about them is that they provide a end to end solution (from installing the drainage, irrigation, concrete, flagstone, plants, cleaning), they take care of scheduling everything and allow us to do some selection on our own (the flagstone, the plants). We hired Eco Minded Solutions to recreate our front yard, which sloped from the front porch all the way down to the sidewalk. Our vision was to have an enclosed patio area so that our young kids could not run out on the street from the front door and also an outdoor living space where we could enjoy the view from our front yard. We also wanted to get rid of the grass and put in drought tolerant plants. The space was extremely challenging for what we wanted to achieve. Eco Minded's designers came up with a great design that raised up our front yard with low retaining walls and a stylish fence that would keep the kids in the front yard, but not block the view. The cost of the entire job was provided up front and broken down for us and we were told the job would take approximately four weeks. Eco Minded started the job when they said they would and worked continuously until the job was complete. Four weeks later, we had a completely new front yard with all the features that we envisioned. During construction, Eco Minded kept us updated as to their progress and were available to answer questions. In short, we love our new front yard and are very happy with Eco Minded's work. read more

My 90 year old father wanted his midcentury home to get a makeover with a brand new front yard, driveway, and courtyard. His 85 year old wife kept telling him they were too old and to let the next owner do the project. Since his 90th was coming up, and a major party was planned to celebrate, he got his way. Ecominded Solutions took a lot of care and concern to come up with a fabulous design. Once obstructive vegetation was removed and the new project was completed, I marveled, not only at the beautiful, creative, and waterwise yard, but the home I grew up in took on a new look that really showcased the home's architecture. And, as a side note, every day my mother enjoys standing at her picture window looking outside at her new yard. When she works in the yard, she loves hearing compliments from those passing by. The project manager Scott had great ideas, listened to our thoughts and what type of plants we wanted and incorporated our rocks into the project. We really liked the design they did, and appreciated their willingness to make changes.. They started the job on time when they said they would, and finished when they said they would. The crew consisting of Miguel, Raul and Alhandro were excellent. So was the job supervisor John. They kept the job site orderly, and cleaned up after themselves every day. They were very accommodating and asked for input whenever there appeared to be different ways of doing the job. Rather than paying for boulders, they were able to utilize boulders that we had in the yard. All in all, a very satisfactory experience. Our first water bill was 40% lower than when we had turf. We only had a slight issue with them replacing a few plants that didn't make it. They eventually did replace them, but it took longer than we would have liked. We absolutely love how it turned out! We discovered Eco Minded Solutions at the Del Mar Home and Garden Show this past spring and decided to use them pretty much on the spot. We loved their display and Maggie and Dave made a very good first impression with us. We had a rather small yard which was a disaster. Despite the fact that we were pretty unsure of what we wanted, Maggie really listened to us and came up with a plan that we absolutely love. The design is clean and fairly low maintenance, so we have hopes that we will be able to keep it looking beautiful. The space which was completely unusable before is now almost like having an additional room. The workmen were always professional and polite and the property was left cleaned up at the end of each work day. When the project was completed they followed up with us as promised and replaced several of the plants that didn't make it. The replacements are thriving. We are delighted with the end result and are actually planning on having them do some additional work to pave our driveway to match the rest of our yard.
