This is long overdue. Alex came to our house to install the drain lines and faucets of several sinks. We also wanted a replacement for the water valves. It was more work than he initially expected, but he was very understanding and gave us an updated estimate on the spot, and it was very reasonable. He worked really hard, and made sure that everything was installed correctly. In fact, he went back to check for leaks at the end of the job and noticed that one of the new valves had a tiny leak. He re-did the job and everything was fine. After a few weeks, I'm happy that everything is holding up together nicely. I paid $320 to have a toilet installed that was purchased through Home Depot. When the plumber arrives he tells my wife it'll cost another $296 to drill 4 holes into the floor tile. I called Economy Rooter to discuss and they said they normally charge $350 to drill through tile. I said that's ridiculous ($75 per screw?) and they said it requires a special tile drill bit. I own these "special drill bits" and they only cost $16 through Amazon. Unless you want to feel like Zelensky negotiating with Trump, I recommend you run far away from Economy Rooter. We live in Watsonville, and the company is located in Santa Clara, but I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again - even though they would have to travel. Prior to using Economy Rooter, I had contacted 2 different plumbers who quoted $598. They did onsite quotes, so they knew what it looked like. Then I went to Home Depot and there was a sign to install for $319. I worked with the HD team and we scheduled it. The day it was scheduled, the plumber shows up almost an hour after scheduled time. He looks at the toilet and says, it will need a special drill, that's an extra $295 for the 4 holes. He starts work and then says, oh, the pipe is in the wrong place, that's an additional $525. I asked for a discount and they said they would do it for $400. My all in cost was 319+295+400= $1,014 That's just the installation charge. The toilet was $499. He also mentioned there is an additional charge because I have stairs. I haven't received the invoice for that part of it. Charging 3 times the posted price is really unacceptable. read more

I looked online and saw that HD contracted out to Economy Rooter and they called me within 24 hours of me placing the installation order. It was so easy and I just received a call for service immediately and it was a breeze setting it up. I even called to reschedule and received a call back the same day from Sam. Then, Franco was my installer and he was so friendly and professional. He showed me how to use the new disposal if there were any issues and he warned me what not to put inside of it to cause clogs. Economy rooter was selected by home depot for do installation of appliances after kitchen remodel through them. They came and apparently nothing is part of their work order. The technician wants more money for moving the cooking range to its position from 4 feet away. Same with all appliances. It only takes 3 secs to push it and I did it myself. But the attitude is appalling. Then they cannot connect drain because the hole position changed. They cannot guarantee anything. No guarantee of previously existing appliances, because they are old. No guarantee on new appliances because they are new and are supposed to work. Basically they are okay with the money they get. But not really interested in doing any work. Their modus operandi seems to take these orders from Home Deport or Home warranty companies - probably at lower cost and then swindle money from home owner by charging extra for everything. When they came out to reconnect, they sold me a power cord ($10 at homedepot) at $25. I paid $350 out of pocket over what I paid via home depot for connecting the drain. The result - the drain was installed between the faucet pull put tube. So now the faucet pull out does not work. See the attached photo as a testament to their workmanship :-) The Dishwasher was installed with the legs hanging in air and the entire dishwasher tilted forward. read more

Now I finally understand all the Yelp reviewers who rated this business one star when this company is working with American Home Warranty (AHW). On 4/20, Saturday my water heater started hissing and leaking from the bottom. I turned off the gas and water and reported this to AHW. AHW assigned the case to Economy Rooter. Economy Rooter sent a plumber Alex on Monday evening to diagnose the issue. Alex diagnosed the symptoms and wrote a report saying that the water heater needed to be replaced. This was all reasonable. That is when the nightmare started. Dozens of calls to AHW and Economy Rooter resulted in no action. AHW and I would leave urgent messages to Economy Rooter and would never get called back. The few times, I got hold of Sev, their smooth talking office manager, he would promise to send a plumber the very next day and would even assign a time window. Of course the plumber would never show up. On Thursday, after 5 days of having no water heater, sick and tired of making no progress, we asked AHW for a cash out option which they agreed to. Immediately Economy Rooter CHANGED their diagnosis to AHW that this was a pre-existing condition. Of course, this caused the warranty to be denied. The same evening Sev called me (surprise, surprise) and offered to replace the water heater out of warranty quoting some ridiculously high prices. Reminded of scummy car garage mechanics when from 30 years ago. I can tolerate genuine mistakes and even incompetence but cheating and lying to customers is not acceptable. I rarely give out one star reviews (did it only once before) but this one truly deserves a star if any. read more
