we ate at Eddie Merlot last night and had a Michelin 3 Star experience. The food was supurb. The steak was cooked to perfection, as were the shrimp and scallops. We also thoroughly enjoyed the wedge salad and bisque. The crowning finale was the desserts: the chocolate cake and the carrot cake. I reached out to Eddie Merlot's early to snag a reservation for my wife and I's 3rd anniversary. The team at EM was fantastic! Upon us arriving at the restaurant, they congratulated us along with several team members giving their congrats as they went past.. Our server was Courtney, and she was amazing. She gave us recommendations off the menu and was extremely nice and jovial through the meal. We started off with the BBQ Shrimp and the calamari. Both were fabulous. The shrimp were huge and wrapped with bacon before being topped with a sweet bbq sauce that also had a hint of heat. The calamari arrives in a sesame rice edible bowl, along with three delicious sauces. One is a sweeter soy (think of a dumpling sauce), one is a sauce very similar to Chick Fil A sauce, and the other is a wasabi mayo sauce. Again, all are great! The calamari itself is very light and fresh! Entrees were 5 oz Wagyu filet for her and scallops for me. We also ordered a side of the lobster mashed potatoes. My scallops were incredible, with a slightly spicy jalapeno creamed corn. My dish also came with a potato cake flavored with truffle, which was solid. My wife's steak was tiny (I tried to talk her out of a 5 oz) but she said it was very good. She also made the horrible mistake of ordering it medium well (shame!) but what can I do? The filet was okay but almost every side dish was almost inedible. I haven't been to Eddie Merlots in years and now I remember why. The only reason we chose this spot was because there was an hour wait for the restaurant my son originally chose for his birthday dinner. The waitress was amazing but the guy who I assume was the general manager had issue with my 9 year old granddaughter's crutches sitting against the table--he even tried taking them away from her to put them in the coat check without asking. After we said no, he made a point to come back to the table with an attitude telling us we weren't allowed to have them at the table while talking down to our group like we were children--Ridiculous! Came in because one of my coworkers told me about that place. My server (bartender) was great. The problem was food. I ordered burger rare to go and waited 20-30 min for it. I came back home and surprise: my burger was well done. I had half of it and throw away the rest. The rest was very average. Had French onion soup. It was not hot. You could actually touch the crock it was served in. Had the strip, mashed potatoes, green beans. Ask for medium rare. Told the server 125 to 130 temp woud be fine. It was brought out well done. It was also flavorless. No salt, pepper. Told the server the steak was over cooked. No reaction. I assumed no one cared enough to even address the matter. Mashed potatoes were good. Green beans under cooked, bland, with a raw taste. Never was offered coffee or dessert after the meal. In most restaurants the manager will stop by the table to introduce and inquire. No, so again my impression was they don't care. Had 1330 reservations. Was told table not ready. Dined at Eddie's this past weekend with my partner and everything was great. Except something was off about our server Jake. He was just very jittery and seemed very uncomfortable. Then my partner pointed out, that this was the same man we witnessed Smoking Crack behind a dumpster recently in Westerville. As stunned as we were it all made sense, because there was just something so off about him. He lashed out at his busser multiple times and didn't seem very coherent. He just kept rambling on about nonsense and made us both very uncomfortable. He had to be on something or he was drunk or a combination of the two. Overall it was a very uncomfortable situation. Worst experience ever- we thought we wanted to have a Christmas meal catered as we were driving back from seeing our daughter in Chicago and having a group of 6 on Christmas evening. So I reached out spoke to Kyle first who said he would call back the next day didn't. So I called asking for a manager none of them would speak to me. I called again left a message with Jessica. She did call back we chatted I thought ok this is great. We decided that she would call me back the next day and take my order. i Decided to just do a pick up order. I didn't like the catering menu. She said she would call back for my order so nothing got messed up. Never heard from her. By then kyle called back and I told him I was working with Jessica. I got tired of waiting for her to call me back so I went online and did the order myself for 4:30 Christmas Day. I also left a voicemail with Jessica telling her I ordered on my own. We receive an email at 3:46 on Christmas Day stating they had a system error and my order was cancelled. I freaked out I had people coming in a couple hours. My husband was already up there at the restaurant trying to pick up the food. They didn't have it. I called them spoke to a gentleman that he was looking into it with other managers. They got the meals together less two meals thank goodness my husband noticed they were 2 meals short. My husband was an half hour late because of all the shenanigans and we had guests. It was my 30+ years anniversary, & the Ambiance of the place was neutral. Our Service was very decent. My husband enjoyed his Steak dinner. I'm vegetarian, they didn't have many choices, so, I had the Salmon, that my husband enjoyed for lunch the next day. Eddie Merlot's is a prime steakhouse next to the Polaris Mall. I've dined here on several occasions in the past, but my most recent experience was for a work related dinner earlier this month. Compared to the other steakhouses in town, the thing that really sets Eddie Merlot's apart in my opinion is the interior of the restaurant. It's spacious, airy, elegantly decorated, and is lit very well. Most steakhouses are super dark and almost dingy at times, so kudos to the way Eddie Merlot's decorates the interior. Their steaks are good... but I'm not sure if they're necessarily worth the price premium. I've had their filet mignon and their prime NY strip, and wasn't exactly blown away. They're generally seasoned well and cooked well, but I've just never been wowed. Add that to the fact that on my most recent trip, they gave me a filet mignon cooked to medium well when I ordered it medium rare... and you might see why I'm apathetic about their steaks. I've never had their Greg Normal signature wagyu steaks, but I'm not sure if I should pay $80~$100 for a single steak meal just because the cattle is genetically Japanese wagyu and a retired Australian golfer attached his name to it. Finally, I should touch upon the service here. By most restaurant standards, the service here is ok. But since we're talking about prime steakhouse service, Eddie Merlot's needs to step it up a notch. On our last outing here, it took my colleague 20 minutes to get his drink order in. He arrived late, so everyone else at the table had already gotten their drinks... but our server simply would not make eye contact with us for us to wave him over for that one extra drink order! In the end we had to grab a different server to place our drink order. So overall, not a bad steakhouse, but also not a great steakhouse. For what it's worth though, they are the better of the two prime steakhouses in the Polaris area (Mitchell's steakhouse is not good in my opinion). So if you need steak while at Polaris, go to Eddie Merlot's. If you're willing to go elsewhere in Columbus, I think there are better options. read more

I had my first ever steak at Eddie Merlot's for restaurant week and I was not disappointed! Complimentary bread and butter was given. The bread had seasoning on top and was perfectly soft. I started off with the house salad (a good sized one) with a house made vinaigrette. My main course was the 12 ounce prime ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes. I added mushrooms and onions to the steak, which was a great touch. There was a decent amount of fat to cut off, but I expected that and still very much enjoyed the food. For dessert, I ordered the crème brûlée - also a very good sized portion. The interior of the building is very nice and my waiter made my experience that much better. He was quirky and fun. You'll leave with a decent bill, but for a nice steak house like this, it's worth it! read more

Brian and I decided to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary at Eddie Merlot's this year and I am super happy that we did. Everything... and I mean E V E R Y T H I N G was five star worthy. We arrived about a half an hour before our reservation and was advised that we would be able to be seated early. Prior to being seated, we asked where the best spot to have our anniversary picture taken would be. We were advised in front of the Christmas tree in which a hostess kindly took our picture. We were then seated at a booth and greeted by our very friendly and knowledgeable waiter - David. David was magnificent throughout our entire dining experience. We were also greeted with an anniversary card signed by the staff at the table. We first toasted to our anniversary with a mistletoe mule and a derby mule. The mistletoe mule was simply amazing and something I will definitely put on our drink list for next year's Christmas festivities.We were then served some fresh bread and butter. The bread was really good! We then ordered the filet mignon potstickers. Oh my goodness! These were divine! If you know Korean food, these reminded me of yaki mandu. Mmm. So good! We then both ordered the Prime Bourbon Ribeye with mashed potatoes and corn casserole as our sides. My husband wasn't too fond of the ribeye on his plate as he felt that the marinade was too sweet. I, on the other hand, loved it! It was great! Although the pile of crispy onions on top were a little distracting, the ribeye was cooked to my satisfaction. The mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy and the corn casserole was something else! The combination of the jalapeno, bacon, and cheddar mixed in with the corn was great! We were then surprised with a complimentary creme brulee which was also served to perfection! I absolutely will return to Eddie Merlot's for another special occasion. I had thee best time. Y'ALL. You have got to find a reason to visit Eddie Merlot's. I am telling you, you will have a fabulous dinner and a fabulous experience in general. No worries when it comes to parking because there is plenty of it (large parking lot). The restaurant itself is very clean and very spacious. It's comfortable. The menu is awesome. The wine list is organized lighter to fuller body, so it's easy to navigate and to choose a wine you'll like. The food menu is amazing as well. For dinner, I had filet mignon potstickers (appetizer), the filet trio (entree option with three 4oz filets finished three ways), truffle fries (side dish), and asparagus tempura (asparagus). Everything was so delicious! The steaks were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. My date had the bison filet, which was incredible! Having never had bison before, I was surprised by how flavorful it was and I'd like to have more of that in the future. Portion sizes were appropriate (Side dishes can be split two or three ways without a problem). For dessert, we had table-side bananas foster. It was so yummy! The ice cream they used was some of the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had. Our server was Matthew. He was so nice and helpful. Let me start by saying that I frequently visit higher end dining restaurants. I like good food and service but with those price tags I expect good food and service. Unfortunately, neither happened tonight. We ordered our food and drinks and everything started off okay but after that everything was disastrous. Our food took an incredibly long time to come out and when it came out, it was room temperature at best. I never got asked if I wanted a refill, mostly because our waitress did not come back until we were well done with our food. I sat an extra 20 minutes after I was done eating, hoping somebody walked by to ask for another drink. By the time the waitress finally came back to the table. I had my debit card waiting just so I could get out of there. I believe the issue was that the staff were all setting up in the back for what I would assume was a big party coming in, but my service should not be compromised due to that. Steak was cold, macaroni was so cold that I had to pull noodles up from the bottomm of the bowl to try to get warm ones, and service was nonexistent. Unfortunate so say the least. read more

My wife and I dined in-person to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Every staff member was so friendly and accommodating. COVID-19 protocols were in place and we felt very comfortable with the level of care they were taking. The food was wonderful as well. My wife got the wedge salad to start which was perfect, and I got a pour of their Knob Creek Barrel Pick, probably the best KC pick I've had. I'd buy a bottle from them if that was an option :). My wife had the trio of fillets and I got the chimichurri steak. For the sides we got the au gratin potatoes and the mac and cheese. I'm repeating myself, but everything was perfect here as well. We finished up with the complimentary cheesecake (anniversary surprise I guess ?). I thought that was a very nice touch and it was one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. I'll preface everything with "for the money" it was just ok For appetizers we had shrimp cocktail, spinach artichoke dip and the charcuterie board. All were very good. The artichoke dip had a hint of spice/heat to it. The shrimp were some of the best I've had. The charcuterie was ok. Edible for sure, but again "for the price" I wasn't blown away I had the trio filet. It was waaaay too salty. A good way to ruin prime steak is to over season it. Let your steak speak for itself. But they know their steaks better than I do: maybe they NEED lots of salt to hide how average they are? If not, I'd suggest pulling back on the salt Wedge salad was very good. Drinks from the bar (old fashioned; Manhattan) were just okay. Service was good, but for the money I won't be back.
