But, then there is using the name of an establishment to over charge for mediocre at best, yes that was Eddie Merlot's today for Easter Brunch. A made to order omelet station (local hotels have the same), warming stations with average food... dried out mashed potatoes, chicken in lemon sauce that was hoping to hide the dry taste, beef tenderloin with a burnt crust (yes a dry rub and cooked to perfection will sometimes resemble this, but this was just BURNT), bacon sitting in two inches of a "liquid" and just gross, French toast was hard and flavorless... do I need to go on? And for a bill of over $1,200 for just lacking good food, simply put ... Disappointing!!! I'm sure there are many other places for a lot less with much better food and maybe even some unique options!! When looking for a holiday bunch, do your research and maybe avoid this one!! 10/9/2020 Outdoor dining has been a must for the squad during the pandemic, Eddie Merlot's didn't disappoint. We had the seating area all to ourselves which was nice. We came for the $6 drink special but ended up ordering a variety of appetizers and dinner. * I had the Berry White Martini, scarily good. Don't forget to eat the fruit * If you like spinach and artichoke dip, order it. The pita chips are AMAZING. No details because I don't want to ruin the surprise. * Filet pot stickers, tasty but I liked the dip better. * Grilled Romaine Salad, this is huge and can be shared with the table if it's not your entree. * My favorite part of the meal was the entree, Filet Del Mar!! Medium rare 4oz filet prepared to perfection. Steak had a nice crust, seasoned well, and was tender and juicy. The Del Mar portion of the meal should be packaged and sold. I never had Dijonnaise, none was left behind. Most importantly our server, Don, was wonderful. He became part of our group. Horribly slow service , or lack there of. Only six tables seated while we were there, with three servers . Took over 30 minutes to get lemonade with water. Took 45 minutes just to get a generic veggie house salad. Food tasted very generic as if it were pulled right out of Sysco food service box and put right on the plate. My order medium rare steak frite, was brought to my table as a minute steak, that was Jullian sliced before being put on to a grill, and served well well done . I've dined at Eddie Merlot's several times over the years, but it was always in the bar area -- either directly at the bar or at one of the cozy tables. On our latest visit (arrived at 5:05 pm on a Tuesday), we were told the bar area was already full with reservations, so our only option was the main dining room. We were seated in a comfy booth and shortly thereafter greeted by our amazing server, Don. He took great care of us and really enhanced our dining experience with his helpful and comical personality! We ordered the following (knowing we'd be taking home leftovers, of course): charcuterie & cheese plate appetizer, 16 oz prime NY strip and sea bass entrées along with Eddie's potatoes and fresh asparagus spears sides. Everything was presented nicely and tasted delicious. My only 'nit' is that the prosciutto on our charcuterie was a bit overly fatty. Don made us aware that bottles of wine are half price on Tuesdays, so we enjoyed a portion of the Simi cab with our meal and then he packaged it up for us to take the remainder home. Food was phenomenal. The Wagyu ribeye was seriously one of the best steaks we've had - and we love a good steak! It was more tham enough to share. Drinks were . . . fine. Not great (-.5 stars) And the carpacio was pretty good - the homemade potato chips were good, but too much for the delicate sliced beef. They should skip that and just toss on a lightly dressed pile of arugula or something. Bananas foster prepared tableside is always a treat. A little more planning on the ice cream bowl and having rom temp bowls will allow the Carmel sauce to blend and form, not thicken on contact. We took the leftovers (heavily baconed cream spinach and cheesy scalloped potatoes) home and made an amazing frittata the next morning. read more

This was my first time there and I honestly had no idea tang this restaurant was in Indy until a friend chose it for dinner. The locale is grandiose, I thought it was a venue for events such as weddings before realizing it was the restaurant. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing too! I would certainly come here again but on a day where I am able to splurge. When it isn't devour this restaurant is on the higher end of pricing but the food absolutely is worth the money. read more

We have visited this restaurant several times for date night. The lighting is mild enough for romance but not so dark that you can't see your date. The servers are usually pretty attentive and not over friendly so you're able to enjoy your company's conversation. Now let's talk about the food. Due to Covid the menu is now very limited. Pre- Covid, there were chicken and lamb options. Now a days you must choose between beef, tuna, and shell fish. The Bison is listed under lean choices and so I went with that. I always order my steaks to be cooked just medium. Near the bone was rarev and away from the bone was well done (no pink at all). I used plenty of A-1b steak sauce because the Bison steak was dry and not very well seasoned. This is the 1st time I've ever gotten my steak cooked so unevenly at this establishment so I'm inclined to say this was just a one-off. My date didn't have any problems with his food except that the portions are not enough. Our server was apologetic about the unevenly cooked steak and brought us a humongous slice of chocolate cake. I am not usually a dessert person but this cake was delicious. I definitely recommend Eddie Merlot's for a good date night spot. read more

My wife has been wanting to dine here for a while now and we finally decided to come check it out. We started with the filet mignon pot stickers which were to die for along with the spinach artichoke dip. They fried the pita which was a nice switch up for the artichoke dip. I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and Simon had an off the menu suggestion which was phenomenal! I ended up having sea bass Oscar style which was a first but definitely won't be a last. This evening we had reservations at Eddie Merlot's. It was our 34th Anniversary and I wanted to go somewhere special. I believe I hit a home run with this choice. We arrived ten minutes before our 6:15pm reservation. We were seated exactly on time. Our server (Olivia) was a very helpful and hard working. We started with the meatballs pictured. They were stuffed cheese and delicious. Very unique and tasty starter. Then we had the French Onion Soup and Waldorf salad. I didn't care for the sweet flavor of the soup but the salad was excellent. Next we had the main course. I had the New Orleans Mixed Grill and my wife had the Trio of Medallions. The blend of the different flavors was very enjoyable of the mixed grill. My wife enjoyed the Medallions but I would recommend ordering the next level up on cooking because they tend to slightly under cook the steaks to what I would expect. I also heard anther table complaining and sending theirs back to have further cooking. We ordered an extra side of asparagus with hollandaise sauce that was perfect. We topped it off with the crème brûlée and got the carrot cake and the turtle cheese to go. My wife said the carrot cake was the best after tasting all. All in all, this was a great experience and we asked some historical questions about Eddie's and what she didn't know, she went to find out. The building and dining area was uniquely decorated with custom paintings and stained glass. This was a great place to visit for special occasions but a little too expensive to visit regularly. If you have a special occasion, this is the place to make it more memorable. read more

I made a reservation for 5:30, this establishment opens at 5. So when we arrived, it was pretty empty. I was taken to the back of the restaurant nearly in the dark. When leaving around 8pm - it was very obvious of this. Nonetheless, our server Lexy was very attentive and even provided suggestions. I started with the crab & corn bisque which was delicious! My lamb chops were good, the side it comes with is a Parmesan polenta "fries" but it actually lacked taste. My dates Sea Bass was delicious! This will be a bitter sweet review. I will try to be as fair as possible and be detailed without going TOO long. I live in the Louisville area where I felt Eddie Merlot's (EM) was a top 3 restaurant, arguably #1. My wife and I enjoyed it greatly. On our last visit we bought $100 gift card because we were told we could also get a $25 gift card as a bonus. I thought we might bring someone with us next time to spend them on. Great! I did it. This occurred just before BLM riots and COVID happened which was the word out for Louisville Eddie Merlot's closing. Unfortunately, we didn't get to use our gift cards. We later discovered that EM had other locations such as Indianapolis which we visit on occasion and brings me to today. My wife and I are staying in a beautiful suite at Fort Harrison INN and planned to dine at EM during our stay. Our suite has such a great dining room setup with a view so we decided to dine in at Fort Harrison INN instead. After walking the Canal Walk we drove to EM. It was about 30 minutes prior to opening for dinner when we pulled into a takeout spot. We called the phone number and ordered a little more than what our gift cards totalled. We had $125 worth of gift cards to spend. So I thought. While waiting for our food my wife got the cards out and I noticed the bonus card expired. A young lady came out to collect for our meal and I hoped for the best. Hey, it's only $25 and EM must have needed it more than I did so that is part of doing business during COVID. Now on to the good part of the review. We usually split meals when dining out, but on this occasion we went ALL in to spend at least $125 (total was $140). We ordered some crab bisque which we both liked. I ordered a salad which I'll probably get to tomorrow. It is nice quality which you come to expect from EM. We also ordered some spinach and artichoke dip w/ pita points which has been one of our favorites. My wife ordered Mojo Shrimp and Scallops with rice for first time. She liked everything save the shrimp which she was surprised to find over-cooked. Being a carry-out meal the shrimp may have cooked a little more on our 15 minute drive back to Fort Harrison. I won't knock the chef for that one. My wife also ordered some brussel sprouts, which is one of her favorites when dining in more refined restaurants like EM. These were "alright" to my wife, but perhaps the BEST I ever had anywhere. I believe the bacon gave a hint of smokey flavor which I like. She agreed with the smoke comment. I ordered a New Orleans Grill mix which had one of the BEST filet mignon, cooked to perfection. I asked for medium rare, again due to our 15 minute ride to our lodging and didn't want to lose the red or pink color at worst. It was better than I anticipated, tender and tasty. There was some blackened andouille, a little dry and some mashed potatoes, I'm not writing home about, but the grilled shrimp had a wonderful grill flavor and cooked very well. The steak and shrimp were definitely on target. I ordered some creamed spinach because that's what I do at EM and I was trying to spend at least as much as my gift cards. ;) To top it off we ordered a creme brulee which is safe to say something we would order again. The gentleman who took our order said it wouldn't be pretty as a carry-out item, but it looked fine to me. It's always better to under promise and over deliver. I also recieved some kind of relish with bits of meat in it which tasted like New Orleans as much as anything I ever had. We didn't expect it, but received a nice round loaf of bread which we might eat tomorrow with leftovers for lunch. All things considered in this LONG review I would say EM had an opportunity to solidify a lifelong loyal customer. To be honest I don't feel like they did. With SO many restaurants like EM (I won't mention them here), I feel more appreciated at other fine dining establishments after this experience. Hey, it's only $25, but that could have gone a LONG way with this customer. Lastly, I will say you would probably have a fine time and tasty meal if you dine in and don't order more than you normally would. read more

Nothing was wrong, but nothing was exactly excellent. The service, the food - everything was just ok. The appetizers (tuna poke and shrimp cocktail) were decent. The salads and French onion soup were ok. The dressings were underwhelming and bland. The main course (tuna and filet) were not great, but edible. Same with the drinks.
