    elk burger

To be honest, if this wasn't the only place to eat AND the only place where we could try elk, my rating would be way lower haha We saw it on the way and decided to stop in to try the elk burger. The cheese was not melted and the buns were not toasted. We got it Praire Creek style and the one with mushrooms and grilled onions. The elk was super tasty and juicy though. I personally really enjoyed it but it's honestly because it was elk. If you come here and they are out of elk, I'd not recommend to wait or try other things (we waited about ~20 minutes) The lady was not friendly or happy. She gave me a slight attitude when I asked for napkins but personally it didn't bother me that much I personally loved the atmosphere with the yellow benches and the umbrella and the adorable plants outside. It was a nice day out so I didn't have any problem with it

Its a cute little snack shop with plenty of shaded seating. They serve American foods such as burgers, hotdogs, chilli fries and so on for a quick bite. Right by the Redwood Highway (101) en route to Redwood National Park and neighboring areas. The milkshakes are absolutely amazing!! They also have elk burgers for the more adventurous folks.

I have always wanted to try this place since it is on the way to Crescent City and they have elk burgers. I ordered the 8 spot elk burger which comes with cheese, bacon, tomato, onion, and lettuce. I ordered mine with pepperjack cheese. I also got a side of shredded cheese fries (I wanted nacho cheese. My boyfriend really wanted the shredded cheese so I went with it.) I also got a peanut butter shake. The elk burger was bigger than I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be a small patty based on the size options they had. It was a decent size. The bun was untoasted and would have been better if toasted. The burger doesn't come with condiments. They have packets for you to add as much or as little as you like. The elk patty was juicy and flavored well. The burger was a little expensive but worth trying. This burger doesnt not come with fries. The side order of fries is huge. My boyfriend and I shared a basket and we didn't finish it. The fries were super crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Loved them. What I didn't love was the shredded cheese. They throw them on top while the fries are piping hot and the cheese melts a little. Some parts were a little more melted than others. The cheese was kind of gross like that. Definitely will not be getting shredded cheese again. Will try nacho next time, but honestly the fries are great without cheese. They offer milk shakes here with a few different flavors. They let you choose to put peanut butter in chocolate or vanilla. I went with the vanilla and omg it was so good. Strong but not over powering. Such a good milkshake. My biggest fear with small shack like places is that the food will be greasy and super salty. Not the case here. I will definitely be coming back again. And just a note. This place is located in Orick and is not that close to Patrick's point so I don't know what one of the other reviews is talking about.

The name is appropriate because this is a shack along the road with picnic tables for seating. We were heading to the National Park and wanted lunch before. I got the elk burger with onion rings and my husband had the fresh fried fish basket with fries (tater tots and onion rings are also available in the baskets) and a chocolate shake. All of the food was really good. It did take quite awhile to get our food so it isn't a quick place to grab a bite. One woman, with helpers who came and went, took orders, took money, and did the cooking. There is only outdoor seating and no bathroom.

7/5/19 Yes, it's actually a shack. Right in the middle of prime hiking in Patrick's Point. They serve mostly burgers and hot dogs. When you come upon it, you're like, hmmmmm.... this looks promising..... but... you'd be DEAD WRONG. Goddam AWFUL. You'll be greeted by seemingly kind people at the window, and everyone in the back would look like they're working hard to please. And well, you're probably right. ........though the real question is, can kindness also mean downright incapable of cooking edible food?... So, when we got here the cashier immediately told us it will be 40-50min before we get food. Yeah, for burgers. Yeah, there's only a few tables outside. ...... well, she wasn't kidding. Took somewhere around an hour. For burgers and hot dogs. At least they could estimate time well... 1. Great Hunter Elk Burger $16 "2 1/3 pound patties, cheese and bacon": I asked the cashier, "Can you make sure this is cooked medium?" The cook manning the grill yells out, "Uhhhh, I dunno but we will try our best." I took that as a good sign at the time cause I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to just cook a patty a minute less right? ......... well, 1 hour later I got me pretty much 2 round bricks between bread. It was so gross that I took a few bites and gave up. Look, if you can't put a patty on the grill, flip it, then take it off maybe a minute short........ I dunno what to say. 1/10 2. Mill Yard Hot Dog $7.50 "hot dog covered with chili topped with cheese and onions": It's a chili dog. Well, no..... It's a bowl of chili with a dog and bun on the bottom. You won't be able to eat it like a hot dog since.... the bread.... is pretty much just a dissolving mess of mush under the liquid. Throw it away. Eat the dog and the chili. 1/10 3. #3 Onion Rings and a Soda $5: The onion rings were over battered and not crisp. 2/10 4. Fries $4: Nicely brown, but strangely despite being freshly friend and hot, they were still soft and mushy? I don't get it. Also had a slightly burnt taste--very very very old oil maybe? Also under seasoned. 2/10 The irony... if they cooked the burgers less, not only would they be more edible, the wait time would probably be shorter too. I dunno if this was the worst burger stand I've ever ever ever eaten at, but it must be one of the elite few this goddam awful. 1/5 #patrickspoint #northerncalifornia #burgerjoint #star #hamburger #hotdog #orick

I've been coming here for over 30 years and never had a bad server. Be sure to let them know if you're celebrating an event and they'll make your evening extra special. Let your server know if you want the appetizer board to be vegetarian. Vegetarians and vegans have plenty of delicious entree options that go far beyond the usual 'pasta with vegetables' option such as the Spanakopita or the stuffed bell pepper over portobello mushroom. Meat eaters can enjoy the wide range of special barbecue options, the oysters, or fresh fish. Save room for one of their amazing desserts. We often have the Goat Cheese Coeur á la Crème which always feels decadent and light at the same time. The flourless chocolate cake is simply decadent (and not light) but oh-so-good. Parking is plentiful and the location makes it convenient to grab from downtown. My favorite part of the menu was that fact that you can order a flight of ice cream, which are priced at $6 for 4 scoops or $11.50 for 8 scoops. It's a GREAT way to have customers try different flavors without overwhelming the sample spoons (PS I don't think this place does samples). I ordered a 4 flight of Mango Habanero, Chocolate Hazelnut, Dream Sweet Cream, and Cherry. The Mango Habanero had a good occasional kick of habaneros in an otherwise sweet ice cream. The chocolate hazelnut was dark but not very nutty - I think it's a safe pick. The sweet cream tasted like a mcdonald's ice cream cone (but perhaps healthier), and the cherry flavor can be avoided as it didn't taste like anything close to cherry. The line was a little slower than expected, but the pricing is very fair, especially for the flights. Service was friendly, and I think their menu changes some flavors ever so often.
