The Good: They have the best hamburgers here that I've had in a real long time. Always. The Bad: Some random "has been" weird old man troll looking dude was lurking around trying his best to scare away customers, which I realize they have no control over. Back to The Good: Anyway I had an expertly crafted burger with a generous patty of fresh jucy ground beef and topped with maple smoked bacon, a fried onion ring and Texas BBQ sauce on a big bun and man, I'm telling you what, I thought I died and went to heaven. Make sure to get garlic fries too. They're tasty! And if you like 'em crispy like me, just ask. Im giving this place 2 just for the elk patty. As for the rest of the food its ok for the surrounding area i guess if you were very very hungry and wanted to taste elk for the first time but maybe you wanna pick a better place. read more

3 stars for taste 1 star for service with a smile = 4 stars I got a patty melt with thousand island which was pretty good. Not a fan of the brown soggy fries, and the peanut butter chocolate shake was not peanut buttery enough. The snack shack is one of two places to sit down and eat in Orick, California. For variety, we gave it a try when staying here. The service was top notch; the chef was nice enough to serve us after closing. The pizza fries were delicious, the beef burger was decent and the chocolate milkshake was yummy. The prices were okay considering the competition's prices are little heftier. All in all, in was a nice place to sit outside and enjoy local food for a few minutes. read more

Disappointed this year. Always loved the ortega cheese burger but taste off this year. Maybe it is the grass fed beef which i do not like plus the ortega Chile was pickled or something which is not how used to be. On plus side fries r still good and huge portion. read more

The Snack Shack is the bomb and is not to be missed. The thoughtful menu has mind blowing creative variations on burgers, elk and chicken at every turn. Made to order food in a snack shack type place on 101. The bacon was even made to order. A little pricey but this is the only place for miles so that make since. The only seating is picnic tables out side and there is no restrooms but..... a good burger and the tots were enough to feed 4-6 people. Just wish I saw a box of gloves on the line. read more

Great stop to grab a quick bite. Huge portions and all very tasty. Ordered 5 meals and all surpassed expectations. Kid and family friendly.

Definitely wouldnt recommend if going for short time break or longing for delicious junk food. We had to wait almost for an hour for the food which was not worth the wait. Onion rings tasted as it just took bath in hot oil. They messed up the order..we ordered for chicken and got an elk burger..for veggie burger its better not to comment. Pretty much the only place to eat in this little town. From appearances, I don't think cleanliness is high on the priority list. Cooks were handling money while preparing food and that was kinda off putting. When we received our burgers, one of them had two hairs in the cheese. Fries and onion rings weren't that good either. We wanted to try the burgers that this place is so popular for. However while placing the order, the lady at the counter said the burger would take 40 minutes and if we are in a hurry, we should rather go for the French fries and the milkshake which would take 5 mins at most. We ended up waiting for more than 45 mins to get our order and the French fries served were not made well. Really disappointed with the expectation setting, service and quality of food. read more

For a place in the middle of nowhere and considering how dirty the cook's hands were, this place wasn't bad. It was on the expensive side though. My family and I ordered a BLT, Hamburger, and a foot long Hot Dog and the total came out to be $20.44. The women in the kitchen work their butts off. I have eaten both the grilled lady bird sandwich and the cheeseburger (cant recall the name). Both were absolutely delicious! It is a small place so be patient waiting for your food, it is so worth it. Tried the fries, onion rings, and shake and it was all so good. read more

It it weren't so expensive, I could excuse the averageness of the food. A burger or hot dog here costs the same as they would at good restaurant in S.F., but the quality at The Snack Shack is not good enough to warrant such prices. This place has amazing burgers. The buns and burgers taste so fresh and moist. They are cooked perfectly. This is the only place to eat before hitting Redwood National Park if your going north, so we decided to try it out. I did not disappointment. I only gave it 4 stars because they took a solid 20 minutes if not longer to get our food and they ran out of Elk so we couldn't try their Elk burger.It's definitely worth the wait though. Shocked by all the rave reviews because my experience was far from fabulous, in fact we ended up not eating there at all! We waited 10 minutes for the "wife" to come take our order. Not a big deal since we had been on the road and needed to use the restroom. Finally the "son" arrived and was able to take our order. We ordered two elk burgers and they were out. Due to the high rating we were excited to try Snack Shack on our way thru. Needless to say, it was terrible. We arrive at 8:20am for breakfast. I guess this is too early although they open at 8am. Cook was less then pleasant and directed us down the street to The Palms. This was the only good thing that came from the Snack Shack. Good food, good service, and friendly people! There is nothing more you can ask for when you are making a little pit stop on the way through the North Coast.
