Hello America, Edgebrook Coffee shop is the place to be. I am there literally every Saturday and Sunday and if by luck I have a day off from work as well. Ben, the owner, and his daughter Rita run the show. They are open from 7am to 3pm providing every customer a personal experience. Thats right, I said experience. Going for breakfast or lunch is not a meal there, its an experience. You take in the aroma of being surrounded by old school pictures of Marilyn Monroe and The Rat Pack and then decorated with pictures of the diner's regulars from childhood, to their military photographs. Ben and Rita welcome customers as if you are an addition to the family. Every customer is uniquely accommodated, no matter what you want to order. For instance, I couldnt decide if I wanted a omelete or a breakfast burrito, so Ben put two into one, and I was the happiest kid on the block. If they can make it for you, they will, even if its not on the menu. And its always delicious and its always cheap.. Seriously, the best breakfast in America, and thats an understatement. Oh, and for all the ladies, they say the key to a mans heart is by their stomach... I reccommend if you want to impress your man, feed him some good breakfast from this diner. It worked for me :) In this day and age, $5-$6 for pancakes, hash browns, eggs, coffee, and bacon... come on.. I dare you to find a better deal.. Take the trip, I gaurantee you will have found your new favorite spot. read more

Best breakfast in the neighborhood hands down. Awesome lunch items as well. Great service with a smile that makes you feel at home. If the scrapple happens to be on the menu when you're there you must try it (ridiculously good). Everything fresh & tasty. You will not be disappointed. This place is a blast from the past - not a re-creation, either. But ambience isn't everything - how's the food? Quite good, I have to say. Aside from sitting in a genuine, unreconstructed soda fountain from Days of Yore, the nice surprise is that the food is well prepared. I had an omelette, and unlike most places nowadays, where the omelettes seems to be made by a person who has no interest in making or eating omelettes (I'm talking about the usual: raw veggies, a massive lump of unmelted cheese, too-cooked or under-cooked eggs, etc.), the omelette I got at the ECS was excellent. My partner reported same on her meal. Like a good cocktail, it's not so hard to cook eggs - but there is more to it than simply throwing together a set of ingredients. It's all in the execution, and the guy manning the grill here had it down. No idea if that's typical, but I'll be back. Coffee was above average also! read more

Had the buddy cakes with hash browns and my wife had the French toast and side of bacon. The food was exceptional! You can tell they use fresh ingredients and the staff was very good. The only reason I didn't give a higher rating was because the place is so small and we noticed people waiting outside the door for seats we just left very rushed to finish our food and get up. I would love to try the lunch menu next time. Hopefully it won't be so busy. read more

Of all the diners I have loved this might have been the "one". The nostalgic decor was genuine and cute, the counter seating was comfy and always open, and the staff remembered you. And the food? The gypsy skillet was a generous portion of veggies and eggs done right- in front of your very eyes. The choice of mini-pancakes is by far what caught my heart. Prices were always right, and it never took me long to get anything since you can flag down your captive behind the counter waitress easily. read more

Delicious food and friendly staff. I ordered the veggie hash with toast, poached eggs and coffee. The hash was great, alot of veggies including mushrooms onions peppers and more my eggs were cooked well and I love spice so I enjoyed that they had several options of hot sauce provided on the counter. The marble rye bread was also very good. I'd love to come back and try the pancakes. My friend and I went on a Monday and we got right in, I've heard they get very busy on the weekends though, but if you don't mind waiting I'd say the food is worth it. Love love love this place. Dropped by to get some food and ended up staying... and coming back a lot Good local joint - food is reasonably priced, but the service is a little slow. Needless to say, don't be in a rush and just relax - this is more of a neighborhoody kind of place. Brunch is good, coffee is better, and it's a friendly environment. Parking is mediocre at best, so find a way to walk or find public transportation. If you like diners, this place is a treat with all the retro decor and menu as thick as a bible. read more

6:30a.m. to 3p.m everything under $7 I had the Gypsy Breakfast with bacon, sausage and ham under scrambled eggs with wheat toast and an glass of orange juice (a real glass, not the ones at ihop, denny's, and blue angel). I must say it fills you up quite nice and is tasty, I didn't even finish it because I was too full. Honestly, I was so full I had to take a power nap right after I came home. This place is seriously a neighborhood oriented place. Seemed like everyone that walked in knew the staff. The staff itself was very friendly, especially this one Hispanic lady that introduced herself to the whole counter of people. If this place was open from 1a.m. - 4a.m. I would definitely be stopping by with a few people. Overall, if I really wanted a quick, cheap, and scrumptious meal early in the day/mid-day, I will most certainly come back. Oh, and I hear the sandwiches are AWESOME! I debated between 3 and 4 stars but 3 stars won out because there were issues with the actual food. Came in with my aunt this morning and unfortunately we couldn't even have a conversation because the music was so darn loud. We both ordered the corned beef hash and mine was soooo fatty SOO FATTY, like inedible fatty. My eggs were very runny as well. My meal was a bomb and not the bomb but a bomb. No bueno. read more

This a spot for the real ones. For those who know the drill, those who have been to a restaurant before and know what food is. For those who want to go to a diner. Those who know themselves and accept the world as it is while remembering that a better world is possible, but it will not be achieved through superficial orchestrations of "service." This is a place of deep respect. I have the utmost respect for the vision and execution these fine folks put into the institution of "the diner", perhaps america's greatest church. Took a table by the door just before 11 am. One employee said they'd get right to us, but then a subsequent mother and son sat at another table and they received their utensils, beverages and placed their orders while we just sat there. Horrible customer service experience. read more

I've stopped in this place quite a few times, tho only once in the last year. The chef seems to only know how to prepare one thing at a time, so my friend got her food more than 5 minutes before I got mine (egg and toast). The third in our party got her food only after 4 people who ordered after we did had been served. The food is tasty, but I"d rather our food get served at the same time-or at least close to the same time. read more

I don't want to share with you how wonderful this place is because then you'll make it crowded. I don't want to tell you that this is my neighborhood go to place now because the pound cake French toast and corned beef is out of this world. I've been begging my husband to check it out since we moved into the neighborhood and yesterday we walked over with our little one. It's a very cute small place, but we figured maybe taking something to go in case our 2 year old decides to be loud (we didn't want to ruin anyone's breakfast). I walked in while my husband waited outside with a daughter in the stroller. I grabbed a menu, but wanted to make sure we could take something to go or even let them know I was just going to step back outside with their menu. ...no one acknowledged me. ...nothing. I stood their for 5 minutes. ..it wasn't packed. ..lots of empty seats in fact, but still nothing. A waitress looked at me, the cook looked at me, but nothing. I work in Healthcare and am huge on customer service. Nothing irks me more than not being acknowledged. Really wanted to like this place. ..gets great reviews and looks cute. read more

Sit at the counter for service!! If you're at the tables on the wall, don't expect even 'normal' service levels. No water, drink refills, butter, syrup or even menus without asking or standing at the counter for them! Another couple came in about 10 mins. after us and their order was taken over the counter, so it went in before ours, so these people that came in well after us had their food and were half way through eating before we even got ours. It's very frustrating to sit hungry watching other people that came in after you eating! Also they should really clean the ceiling fans!! If however you have a bunch of time or don't care much about service, the food is great. The house made meats are really good, the pancakes and Johnny cakes (they call them buddy cakes) are great and the omelets are spot on! The food is the ONLY factor worth stars. read more

A friend from work took me here and I loved it! Its nothing fancy - its like an old time diner. The restaurant consists of 1 long counter top and that is it. We go at lunchtime which at times can be busy but the times we have gone we get in and out. The staff is super friendly. The food is cheap and good! My husband and I have eaten here twice, and the food is delicious. I love the spinach, feta, and tomato omelette! I think that the service could be a little better, though. On my second visit I never received the coffee I ordered. Love the new items on the menu. First thing I noticed was the freshness of the ingredients. Usually, restaurants are pricey if they're that fresh, but not here.
