It had been way too long since dining at Edison, and that is only due to the fact that we moved out of state more than a year ago. This recent visit found all four of us wanting more of Chef Jeannie Pierola's creative and flavorful cuisine! We shared some burrata at the bar while we visited with friends and then moved to our table for a delightful dining experience. The tuna tataki was a fantastic sharing plate to kick off a night of amazing flavors. I had the coconut lime glazed black grouper which featured purple sticky rice, a red curry emulsion, pineapple jalapeño chutney & herb salad. Sharing a bite with my partner was a challenge but I played fair as he gave me a divine taste of his seared duck breast. Our friends shared the octopus tiradito and wild caught sea scallops. They raved about the size of the scallops and the accoutrements. We had no room for dessert and plan to return when we fly back into Tampa later this year. read more

Went back again for our anniversary dinner and absolutely enjoyed ourselves! They brought us a free champagne round on the house which was so PERFECT! I enjoy that they have a rotating menu so we can try new things each time we go - Steak tartare ($21) preserved lemon, black garlic, miso tahini, crispy potato pave, garlic furikake: SO DELICIOUS! I really enjoyed the combination of the steak with the potato. It was crispy but also soft and the flavors were punchy with the garlic furikake. Definitely opt for this app! - Grilled Honeynut Squash ($29): what a delightful surprise! The flavors were sweet but savory and the yuzu cranberry paired so well with the garlic tahini. The Brussels were out of this world, I could have used more of those! The only miss on the dish was the onion pakora- I loved the onion outside layer but the inside was too dense and didn't taste very good. Everything else on the dish was fantastic and a good portion - Hat Yai Fried Chicken ($42): this was tasty with the purple rice and papaya atchara to give it a nice crunch and texture. There is no Ambiance...the service is fine in the beginning and but later it was far too long waiting for our meals, to get someone to pick up our finished plates and get us a dessert menu. The server was taken back that we didn't order drinks or appetizers. Obviously wanted a larger bill! The food was good but small portions and was way over priced. The first time we ever went was fantastic which was 11 years ago. Then we went back and had a steak and it was horrible and then just went back today and it was just ok. We started with the sourdough bread which was good. Very unusual butter but it was nice to have something different. For mains we had the street corn agnolotti, grilled honeynut squash, and a fish entree which was black grouper that night. The grouper was overcooked quite a bit. Granted that wasn't the dish that I got but if that's what I specifically ordered I would have sent it back. The street corn was very different, probably wouldn't get that again. I absolutely loved Edison about 10 years ago, but something has changed. We went for dinner on Friday night on a whim and the food just wasn't up to par, given the price tag. The most delectable item on their menu -- the potato crusted oysters -- lost their charm as they are now served without the oyster shell and just don't taste the same. The steak tartare comes on these potato slices that needed to be cooked a bit longer. Bartender was excellent -- drinks were perfect -- and service was top tier, but I'm not a fan of the menu switch-ups. So much so that I probably won't return. read more

First I will say that everything I tried was good. No complaints about taste and quality. Service was stellar. Lots of input and suggestions and glasses were kept filled. Inside is nice but can loudly reverberate with the energy of the people at any given moment. Not a big deal but maybe if you're interested in a quiet meal. Have been wanting to try Edison Food & Wine Lab for quite a while. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. Service was very good, starting with Server Nick, to the person who appeared to be a manager who delivered some of the food, plus they nicely split some of the dishes. We started with a few drinks. Then appetizers: Bone Marrow, Potato Crusted Oysters and Octopus. Then had some Lobster Chowder plus a Brussels Salad. Then had a main courses, Duck Sugo, Lamb Kaldereta & and Edison Burger. Then 2 deserts: Butter Cake dish and a Konako Ganacha. The food presentation was pretty good. Most of the food was pretty good, some better than others, but none overall not amazing and some were dishes were overpriced for what you received compared to other good restaurants we have been to in the Tampa Bay Area. We booked weeks in advance for Valentine's Day and were very disappointed. Everything on the menu was sold out by our 8:30pm reservation and we had to choose from two vegetarian options, fried chicken with "smaltz" aka lard or order the same scallops dinner. The price was $59 and it was basically just scallops with a smear of parsnip puree- super underwhelming and overpriced for what they served. Although taste wise was good- not great for that price. We were limited to like three things on menu. They were also out of many appetizers, desserts and the original wine selected. Good thing was our server was super-Embarrassed should I say. Had Déjà vu why I haven't come back because three years ago when I came I couldn't find anything on the menu either. Seems like they haven't improved- such a shame... I made a Valentine's Day reservation at edison through Capital One Dining. The staff was super helpful, even calling me beforehand to let me know when they had to shift my reservation due to differences between Capital One and their system. We were able to find parking down the street but there was also a small lot out front. When we entered, the restaurant was packed so I'd definitely recommend a reservation! Because of our Capital One reservation, we were immediately seated in a private booth in the corner and we were even brought out a special scallop appetizer to start! These were such small but really special touches that we greatly appreciated. We ordered a bottle of wine for our dinner which was excellent. For food, we got a bone marrow + milk bun appetizer as well as another with okra and mushrooms. Both were delicious, but the homemade milk buns were my favorite!! For dinner, we split a duck entree which was tender and delicious with a lot of fun components. For dessert, we had a sage, strawberry, shortbread dessert with popcorn ice cream. Could Edison be a top 5 restaurant for me in Tampa? Heck it might even be eyeing top 3. I never met Thomas, but this food and drink lab could be his best invention to date. I have about 46 things I love about this place, but I will keep it succinct. Let's start with the service. Polite, attentive, well educated in the menu, and friendly. I help plan dinner outings for my work group and Edison is always on the differential. They have a private room just off to the side of the main seating which could easily hold 20 plus people, comes with an HDMI compatible flat screen TV for presentations, sports, or whatever and a dedicated private waitstaff plus restroom. I would be lying if I said that the top 1 reason I come here is not the food. The plating and presentation looks like something straight out of Chef Carmy's kitchen. Such attention to detail, a blending of colors, and flavors so perfectly interwoven it's as if they were crocheted by your grandmother. Growing up on the emerald coast, I am a huge fan of seafood but have found it to be spotty in the Tampa Bay area. Not at Edison though. Easily the best Ahi Tuna app and likely the best scallop dish I have ever had. Scallops are so easy to ruin, but these were kissed by an angle striking the texture balance like a hammer on an anvil. There is a total of 1 things I do not like about this place and it is the parking. There is a small shared lot next to the entrance, but considering how incredibly the food is here they might as well invest in a parking garage. If you have not visited Edison then please do so stat, and I might recommendation a reservation because this place is highly desirable and stays crowded. read more

Work dinner on a weeknight, nestled into a large separate dining room removed from the main area. We had some options from a fixed four-course menu. I went for the tuna appetizer, mushroom soup, duck leg, and chocolate cake. Everything was great! The tuna had so many different flavors but they all went together, including avocado cream and cilantro with a spicy mango sorbet as a palate cleanser between bites. The mushroom soup was intensely savory with a single tempura shiitake nestled on top. The duck leg was amazing, so tender in a red sugo with a few fried gnocchi. The chocolate cake was good too, with a layer of orange gel inside, not a game changer but a nice finish to the meal. Overall a good meal, lots of variety and multiple components to each dish without being over-complicated, disharmonic, or chaotic. read more

Edison has been on my Tampa favorites list for many years. I visited again after not going for a while and ordered three entrees as I really wanted the Hen of the Woods mushroom dish and the Zaatar lamb. My husband got the hanger steak because theoretically it should be a great cut of meat. We had a wonderful dinner, we ordered a bottle of wine and enjoyed the dinner but we spend a lot of money on a Dinner that was about an hour and 25 min. and the hanger steak was an awful cut of meat. I am not sure it was the hanger cut. In any case, Edison is an excellent restaurant and is still one of Tampa's best. read more

Had a very lovely dining experience at Edison for ladies night with my gf's. Upon arrival we were accommodated immediately despite my error in booking dinner rsvp for the following day. I indulged in the Devil's Den cocktail which was absolutely delicious; Impressive! We skipped appetizers and ordered our entree; Both myself and one of my gf's ordered the coffee rubbed hanger steak w/ potato mochi, pumpkin seed gremolata, butternut squash, and guajillo bbq sauce. The dish was extremely flavorful but the hanger meat was a bit dry. My gf had the seared duck breast w/ celery root, red wine syrup, fennel, pearl onions and calabrian chili mustard. She loved her dish!! For dessert I had the pomegranate sobert with a honey drizzle and crunch. Kudos for thinking of us non-dairy vegan folks with this delicious alternative. read more

I was super excited to try this place for the first time. We came at 6:30 on a Friday night and surprisingly the place was pretty empty. But lucky for us, we had the place to ourselves! Huge shoutout to our server Nick, he was extremely attentive, never had us waiting for a drink, and provided great menu recommendations. Per his rec, we started with the croquettes. In simple terms, this fried gooey ball of cheese was phenomenal, especially when paired with the short rib hidden underneath. We devoured them! For entrees, I was extremely pleased with my scallops, cooked to perfection. Minor comment is that only 3 scallops were on the plate so easily ate the whole dish without feeling stuffed. Seemed a lil small especially given the price. My boyfriend was extremely satisfied with his Iberico. Most importantly - cocktails. Espresso martini was perfectly strong with a rich coffee flavor and hint of sweetness. Followed it up with the Tampa rose that I would drink every night happily if I could :) the drinks we ordered both looked and tasted like heaven. Great job bartenders! read more

We loved this place! Made a last minute reservation when the Morgan Wallen concert canceled, as we would be in Tampa that night anyways. Upon arrival, our table was ready. Our server was great, prompt, funny. The menus were extensive. We went with the regular menu, not the tasting menu. The Brussels sprout salad was delicious. The octopus appetizer lived up to its reputation. Very tender. Great sauce. Just wish I had some crostini to soak up that sauce! Cocktails were fancy. We had a few. I even ordered a cocktail not on the menu- and they accommodated. For dinner we had the duck and the scallops. I'm not a scallops fan but the dish was fantastic. The duck was confit, a little too crispy but the rapini and the rest of the dish was amazing. For dessert, I wished for a little more options. We didn't see anything that stuck out so we had the ice cream. I'm glad they let us choose three flavors. All were good but the presentation was lacking on that dish. Service was stellar, with the host and the chef and the manager coming by to check on us in addition to our server. I legit said I'd be ready to order another drink in ten minutes. Drinks were sitting empty for at least 15min before the another drink order was taken and not asking others around if they needed another. and takes 15-20min after ordering for the drinks to come out. On Valentine's Day We sat at the bar, for drinks and a bite. While we sat there with our drinks, looking at the menu, the bartender was slamming his bottles and splashing us with liquor. My husband let him know...that he was getting his shirt wet...and he didn't even acknowledge it. The second time he had splashes and droplets all over his shirt, and asked if it was that bitters that he just splashed on him - and the bartender grunted "yeah", and barely looked up. The third time he got splashed we just asked for the check and told him we were leaving. Never got an apology or any acknowledgment, even when we mentioned why we were cashing out. We paid a $60 tab and left our drinks half full on the bar. Will not return. read more

It was our first time at Edison. We ordered the potato crusted oysters to start, not a fan. They lacked substance, it was as we were just crunching down on crispy flakes. I didn't taste the oyster. For my main I ordered the Pepper New York strip. I wish someone would've told me they use a whole bottle of black peppercorns. It was disappointing to say the least It was extremely hot, I had to scrape the pepper off the steak to eat it. My hubby ordered the scallops (4), which was not very filling. For dessert he got the sugar crusted butter cake with a scoop of ice cream. I had a taste but didn't like it. It just had too much sugar topping, the cake itself was spongy. Edison calls itself a "food+drink lab", and I felt like it's exactly that: a lab. You experiment and get some items that work and some that don't. The entire experience was like couple of culinary students trying to put together a meal, and not quite getting it right. I ordered the 5-course tasting meal. Presentation was nice, but the taste was good for only two out of five courses, and there were some odd pairings. Course 1: Fried calamari was nicely fried to a crisp without a greasy taste. There was a lemon mashed potatoes that came with the dish. I'm not sure if lemon goes with mashed potatoes, but it was eatable. Course 2: Asparagus was served with crushed graham crackers and a sweet kumquat foam. I appreciate the innovative nature of the kumquat foam, but this dish tasted like a dessert topped with asparagus -- very weird (1 star off). Course 3: Grilled kanpachi with oyster mushrooms, fiddlehead ferms, and yuzu beurre blanc was my favorite dish of the evening. The fish was seasoned well and the char on the grilled fish gave a nice smokey taste. Course 4: The menu called this course "Blackened Filet". When you think of a blackened filet, you think of beef, right? Well, it was actually pork. I don't know how you can filet pork, but okay... I even asked my waitress, and she didn't know. There were sweet potato gnocchi that came with the dish. It was weird pairing pork with sweet potato gnocchi (1 star off). Course 5: I liked the buckwheat cake with orange mascarpone cremeux for dessert. The brown butter carrot jam ice cream was also quite good. I did not care for the passionfruit-soaked raisins, as that just made the raisins very sour. I'm not sure if Edison was trying to makeover a carrot cake here, but sour raisins definitely did not fit in with the makeover. Service was very awkward (1 star off). The waitstaff gave me my courses in the wrong order, which didn't bother me. However, three people came by to profusely apologize for it. I kept telling them it's fine, I don't mind. They still felt horrible and kept returning to apologize about it. At that point, I'd rather them just bring me the food rather than sending more people to apologize. At the next table, a customer also asked for the 5-course tasting menu, but was told that they ran out. So I guess I got the last 5-course tasting menu? How do you run out of something so early in the evening? Anyway, the waitstaff then proceeded to profusely apologize to that customer. At least I got them off my back. read more
