After she brought me the cereal with a glass of whole milk, I reminded her that I asked for skim. Then the owner came over and handed me a new glass of whole milk and said "we have no skim milk" and basically had the attitude like "take it or leave it" I'm really not that difficult so had I been told that they were out , I would have just accepted it. But how can a breakfast place be out of skim milk? Plus they could have been a little nicer about it. Additionally: They forgot a side of bacon. This place DOES NOT deserve the bad rep it gets here. Okay, it is not a 5-star establishment, but it doesn't pretend to be either. There are quite a few locals that come here on a regular and are perfectly okay with food and service. Yes, it could be busy, but you'd be a fool to come to a central spot on Main St on a weekend and expect to be seated and served immediately. Find me a place that does that and please share or shut up if you can't! Food is your typical breakfast food, I was never served anything that was burned, overseasoned or expired. Came here for brunch. Bad experience, waited about 30 to 35 minutes for the food to arrive. The food had finished and had been sitting out for quite a while waiting to be picked up and brought to our table. Ordered eggs over easy and they were ice cold by the time I got them. We debated on multiple breakfast places and picked the Egg and I based on convenience of where we were at the time. We waited over an hour for our food and when we asked the waitress said it would be out in "5 minutes" meanwhile we watched food be served to 3 parties seated around us as we waited for ours. Monday morning before I left the Cape, my parents and I had brunch here. We always loved the kitschy quality of the Egg & I - We have been going down to the Cape since I was a baby - yet I never recalled eating there. We were walking down Main Street in Hyannis and spotted one, hence, a perfect opportunity to try it out. I'm not sure other E&I's are around the Cape, but this one was not good. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a tea and a small cup of fresh strawberries. My father had a burger, and my mother had a garden salad. For such a small order, it took about 40 minutes for the food to arrive. The service was so slow! Also, My mother and I both agreed - the vegetables in her salad and the strawberries I ordered were not fresh at all. She also asked for olive oil and vinegar, and when the waitress brought them to the table, each bottle looked watered down and almost soapy. My dad said the contents looked like shampoo. On the bright side, my father did enjoy his hamburger, though he's not too much of a picky eater. The bill came to about $26, including tip. Perhaps the service and food quality is better at other Egg & I's on the Cape, but this one in Hyannis is not the best. read more

We enjoyed our brunch at Egg & I - I liked the Mediterranean omelet & Ry had eggs, toast, bacon & home fries.. Their serving of bacon was huge, toast was surprisingly yummy, & home fries were the winner on taste! They have a large outdoor seating area and indoor seating options as well - next time I would probably wait to sit outside. I ordered the Irish Benedict as I was hungry of hash and eggs and that sounded like a nice option. The corned beef hash had turned and so did my stomach. But the bus boy constantly coming over to remove 1 piece of trash and invading our space while we were still eating seemed unnecessary as the restaurant was almost empty and they did not to flip our table right away. I came here with my girlfriend and her 3 cousins for a weekend in the cape and was absolutely in paradise. The only thing the wait staff here didn't do was place a crown on my head and kiss my feet. They were so welcoming and friendly I was taken back at first. We had gone to the gourmet brunch the previous day and had felt as If we were a nuscance with every request or question. After seated, our server Alecia greeted us immediately and gave us steaming hot coffee and crayons for the little ones. I chose one of the omelettes and my girlfriend chose the benedict while the kids had some French toast, a pancake shaped like Mickey mouse, and walffle with strawberries and whip cream. Needless to say my mouth was watering just looking at the menu. We waited about 10 minutes before our food came out; everything was steaming and smelled amazing. And the portions were HUGE! Before any of us could ask for anything else our server had syrup hot sauce and ketchup ready for us. After our first few bites we new we had made the right decision coming here.
