Nervous about trying Eggs 'n Things at the Kona Street/Ala Moana location because of the wide array of reviews, good and bad. I hate to waste my time and money on restaurants that are questionable... We arrived a little after 8 a.m. and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, perhaps 3 other couples. We were greeted and seated quickly. There were specials on the whiteboards that sounded intriguing, and our waiter came to offer us menus and explain the specials and to bring us water/coffee/tea. I ordered the fresh ahi steak and eggs with cottage fried potatoes and an order of sour cream strawberry crepes. My friend ordered an omelet with pancakes and a side of Portuguese sausage. Our food came quickly and there was plenty of it! My fresh ahi steak was done furikake-style with scrambled eggs and cottage potatoes. Loved the cottage potatoes because they were done the way I love them, golden brown and crispy on the outside. The ahi steak wasn't hard or tough, but delicious. The sour cream strawberry crepes were plump and full of filling, which was nice. Couldn't eat even half the food and took most of it home for another meal! People started filling the restaurant and by the time we left, it was quite full, including a small busload of Japanese tourists! Overall great experience with good, hot food. My order was the Strawberry Whip Cream w/Nuts Pancakes. I've had pancakes that were TWICE as good for HALF the price! It was soggy and nothing special. My bb had the Eggs Benedict here with a side of Turkey Bacon and it was disappointing to both our taste buds. The potatoes that came with the dish was the best item followed by the orange garnish. Their service is very good here and that's why I didn't give them 1 star. Our server checked on us often and came back promptly with all our requests. He must have refilled my bb's coffee 4 or 5 times without asking. Getting the check here was a little slow and we had to walk up to the cashier to pay. With the service we got, I expected the server to bring our payment to the cashier. Not the case. It's okay because he was very nice. They are conveniently located near Ala Moana so that's why we decided to eat here. Parking was a nightmare here! We had to circle around several times to get parking. After finally finding parking, we had to wait for a table. It's a huge waste of time if you're in a rush. The inside is very clean and has a warm decor to it. Good place to grab breakfast around ala moana. Depending on what you get, the food here is really good, but my overall experience was very average. We ordered the spinach, egg, cheese, and mushroom omelet, which was a special that day, a fruit cup, and a strawberry waffle. The omelet was in my opinion the best thing that we ordered. We were given a choice of three different cheeses to be cooked in the omelet, but I forget which one we chose... It was cooked perfectly. Great flavor. It was also served with a tomato like salsa that was really good on top of the omelet. Choice of potatoes, rices, or pancakes with meal.. We did the potatoes and they weren't good at all.. A little stale and very little flavor. The fruit cup was good. It was fruit.. Inside the cup was a mix of pineapple, grapes, apple, cantaloupe, strawberries, and kiwi.. I believe that is all.. The strawberry waffle was good, but looks so much better than what it actually is.. I saw this thing get put in front of me and I started salivating on myself :p.. I was having fantasies about us growing up and having children together. Our good times and our bad. The love and passion that we would share forever... but then I took a bite and hollered we want pre-nup, we want pre-nup!!.. haha.. but seriously it was good, just not mind blowing.. and I didn't like the strawberries. So let's start at the beginning. The bathroom for the ladies is unsanitary for 2 reasons. 1. It stinks and smells like poop. So you can imagine what you are breathing in. Doesn't take much to get an air freshener to go off every 30-60secs. 2. The faucet is a joke. It's like the ones in the 80s where u have to use 1 hand t turn it to hold the water and rinse ur other hand. How do people with use of one hand use these? I had a hard time turning it and can imagine how bacteria ridden it is. 3. For two people they seat us next to a joined table for another 2 people. It's like a table for 4. We couldn't have a conversation because we were sitting with strangers inches away and can't hear each other talk. There was other tables available but nope they sit strangers with us. Our tables are less than 1 inch apart. 4. Cream/milk is sitting in little cups at all of the tables. And it's not cold. 4. Let's see how the food is and I'll update. So far this place fails. 5. Ok so it kept getting worse. I had to chase down for refills on my coffee. The food came out - we had the French toast Mandarin orange special and eggs, potatoes and bacon. The bacon was not crisp as ordered and had translucent fat visible and was limp. The French toast was worse. The toast was not seasoned - just egg flavor on bread. The Mandarin oranges were 7 pieces from a can. It didn't add any flavor or sweetness. The whole thing was smothered in too much whip cream. 6. The people next to us kept complaining about their loco mocos being terrible and just got up to go pay at the cashier because the waiter didn't bring their check. 7. Again I had to chase down the waiter for our check and then went to stand in line to pay. The entire system is in need of an overhaul. The food and bad service ensure I will Never go here again. Can I give negative stars? The server was Jose and the guy that dropped off the silverware with the major attitude was Eryk. They are both terrible and need an overhaul in customer service. Wait Time: Our wait time was relatively short like 5 minutes. The restaurant was almost empty and filled with mostly Japanese tourists. Service: Our food came really at a normal speed, but the servers were kind of slow because they were short staffed. There was only 2 people serving the whole restaurant so I felt kind of bad , but most of our food was cold when it reached our table; yet that may be due to the fact they have to use a stencil to make Gudetama's face. The pacing for all our food was kind of off, when my friend and I got our loco moco, a few minutes later our pancakes came out too so I felt that was kind of sudden, but it didn't matter much to me as long as we got our food. Food: I ordered the Gudetama Loco Moco set for $15. It came with either coffee or hot chocolate, loco moco, and a pancake. I got the hot chocolate and it was sweet. It tasted like marshmallows, chocolate, and a bunch of whipped cream. To be honest, the hot chocolate had 1 inch of whipped cream before you reached the hot chocolate. It was an okay hot chocolate, but it was lukewarm, not pipping hot when we got it. The loco moco was relatively warm and came with two bacon and a sunny side egg with Gudetama's face. The loco moco rested on a small bed of rice and was relatively hard and not that moist. The two bacon was crispy, but not crunchy since it was out for awhile. It tasted pretty good, but I wished there was more rice and the portion size was larger. The pancake wasn't even warm when we got it and had a huge pile of whipped cream and chocolate syrup. The pancake itself had a nice crust and a soft inside. They had 3 different syrups on the table--guava, coconut, and maple. I enjoyed the coconut one more better. The guava was far too sweet while the maple was okay. Ending Verdict: Would I come again? I would probably come for their pancakes and if the price was a lot more fair. I felt most of their items on the menu was a little too pricey for my taste, but I was happy and full after I left Eggs N' Things. It is mostly breakfast food, all day, with some typical diner dishes thrown into the mix (like pork adobo fried rice and chicken fried steak). The loco moco was okay but small and not interesting at all. The ahi was pretty bad; the fish was MUSHY and flavorless. Yikes. The only saving grace were the buttermilk pancakes, which were nothing "special" but were delicious nonetheless. RECOMMENDED: If you had to come here, i'd stick with the pancakes. They are pretty good and fluffy enough to be satisfying. The butter comes whipped and spreadable, and the restaurant provides three syrups (coconut/haupia, guava, and maple). GRADE = D- A M B I A N C E: It feels like a typical Hawaii diner, with a little bit more light. It feels clean and generic. There are old school photos on the wall, which are nice and nostalgic. But the decor is too "new" to make you feel like you're in an "old-timey" place. GRADE = C S E R V I C E: UGH. One of our waiters did not even ask if we were all done with our food before touching and taking our plates away. I would take a nice omelette or French toast or waffles over steak & lobster ALL DAY, ANY DAY. This place is always super busy & they do not accept reservations so be prepared to wait if you're dining in. You can order ahead for take out also! The food here is good & prices are cheap. They also give kama'aina discount! Yay! Yesterday was my first time dining in (I've only ever eaten here once before & it was take out) between my friend & I, we ordered full 2 entrees, 2 iced teas & a fruit bowl to share & only spent $50. Staff is also very quick & friendly. Parking here can be a challenge as the lot is shared by about 5 other very popular businesses (Taiyo!, Nijiya, Payless Shoes & one very particular Korean restaurant I refuse to name). As the end of our trip got closer, we began to cross off places on our must-try list. Egg & Things apparently has a wait as early as 6:30 or 7am, & after a long day on the North Shore we decided to switch things up & have breakfast for dinner. The upside was that there was no wait. The wait can get long, especially if you have a party bigger than 2. Eggs n Things has pretty great breakfasts, although it is pricey. The pancakes are better than average, as are the omelets, but I don't believe it is worth the price or the wait. Another thing, be prepared to share a table. We checked in via using the online app. They do have a sign on a board outside to check in. Unfortunately, we weren't aware of the sign. Went in on a Friday afternoon. Called to see if we could make a reservation because of our party size -- 8 people. Found out that they didn't do phone reservations but since we were on our way, we could put our name down on the waiting list already. Got there, found a parking right in front. Went to check in with the host and apparently, our name wasn't there. We explained that we had spoken to someone on the phone to put our name down but I guess they did not. We ended up having to put our name down again and received a buzzer and went shopping in Payless (next door) for about 30 minutes while we waited. Once we were seated, we were greeted by our waiter Eddie. Besides the food (which I'll get to in a bit), he was probably the best part about our entire experience. It was our first time eating here and his spiel was definitely an attention-getter and he made us laugh a lot. Awesome customer service by him! We had ordered the adobo fried rice, kalbi, fresh cajun ahi, the crepes, waffles, and regular sunny side up eggs with toast. The food was great! I especially liked the kalbi. I think this place is totally overrated. We arrived half past noon, and there was only a ten minute wait. The staff was appropriately attentive and nice. The food was definitely sub par. I ordered the Hawaiian loco moco, which was nothing special. The ingredients were good, but I did not like the flavor of the hamburger-- tasted like it came off a dirty grill. My mom ordered the crab cake Benedict (crab cake on the side) with potatoes. Her potatoes were cold, and she did not like them. I liked the crab cake more than she did-- she felt as if they were overlooked. I in the other hand was happy with the crisp and the flavor. For the price and for all the tourist hype over this place, I would not recommend it or take anyone visiting. There are so many better breakfast places on the island! Not sure why the so-so rating exists. Came here for the first and second times this week and was very pleased with just about every aspect of experience. Parking was easy in the morning, and if the lot is full, just go around and park at the edge of the Ala Moana S.C. - easy! Had the Hawaiian Loco Moco which comes with fresh mushroom gravy, and Portuguese sausage in with the loco mock, which made it really good. The service was more than fine, Coffee never went empty, nor did the water. A request for extra gravy brought a few smal bowls of the brown stuff, no charge. It seemed that the people in our area were all being served in a timely manner. If there were bugs when they first opened, it seems like they ready about them here and have corrected. read more

My husband polished off the French toast with mandarin oranges and whipped cream. I had the Portuguese sausage, eggs and macadamia nut pancake. It was SO good! Parking - lots of parking due to most of the other businesses are closed at 8:00 am and the tourist come via shuttle or bus. Host - unfriendly, 0 stars, you would think they would hire cheerful people to give customers a cheerful good morning. So what does it mean when you take a grand-baby to a restaurant and the server gives you a funny look and asks "wait, he's not yours right? I see him with his parents all the time"? It means our family loves to eat, and obviously Thing #1 is unforgettable. So we sometimes like to eat breakfast on the weekends, and determine our dining location by what our plans are for the day. This past Sunday we wound up at Eggs n Things and it's one of our go-to's for breakfast. Service is usually really friendly (did I mention our server recognized the little in attendance?) food is very consistent, and it is cost-friendly. Hubs had the ham and eggs, I went with the benedict, and the kid got pancakes (no surprise there). I usually make the kid sit next to Papa whenever there is syrup involved, so Papa aka hubs, was on duty with the 2 year old who insisted on trying the different syrups available. Ultimately he decided he preferred the regular maple syrup. I always ask for extra Hollandaise sauce, and am always happy when the server remembers it. (I hate repeating myself) Yay, server dude! Be sure to go early to beat the line, which usually starts around 830-9 on the weekends. First time coming to this location. 5/1/17. Put our names in at 1026am for 3. There is ample parking, and wait seating, inside and outside the front door. The host on duty is polite and was quick to greet me. As we wait outside (so my 2yo doesn't get into mischief ), it is cool in the shaded area where we sit on a bench. A ten minute wait is actually 4mins!!! Awesome service. We ordered our hawaiian Loco moco's, the special blueberry and cheesecake crepes, and a kids pancakes and egg meal. By 1040 we received our drinks and ordered our meals. The restaurant was diner style and had a nice vibe to it. Staff members worked happily. Keeping tables clean, and customers full. Lighting was soft and felt natural due to the large picture windows and bar lighting. This is a nice place to eat pancakes with the family, and jet off to the beach or shopping. Everything was delicious. No complaints here. Just, Ono goodness. The 2yo was happy with his meal and even tried ours happily. The crepes were so yummy. The locomoco, was perfect. Love the gravy. Worst crepes I've ever eaten. It was super mushy. Tried to force myself to eat a whole one from the three on plate but only managed to eat half of one. Crab cake benedict is different but hollendaise sauce was not good. Potatoes with benedict was probably the best part but it was pretty dry/hard like they were cooked a while ago and reheated. Waitress asked if I wanted a box for my leftovers since I ate only about 1/5 of my food. I told her no. She came back again and asked if I was sure I didn't want a box. I wanted to say that it was really junk and I wouldn't eat the rest later, but I just said no again with a kinda disgusted face while making a shooing away motion to the plate.. Maybe I should have gotten something with eggs since that's the name of their place. If I ever go back, I'll try something else and maybe update my review. But will definitely never order creeps from here again... Ended up walking over to Nijiya to buy some sushi and watermelon to eat since I was still hungry. read more

I really wish the hype of this place matched my satisfaction. I'm still actually not sure why there ever was a hype for this restaurant or why I've seen lines heading out the door of the one in Waikiki. To me, everything was... normal? It wasn't bad. But it wasn't great. It just seemed like a regular breakfast joint. Only thing is I wish the portions were better. I feel like I get a better value at Denny's or ihop. read more

The plate of my Eggs Benedict and my husband's Portuguese sausage omelet were completely empty at the end! The sauce was delicious, the toast under the meat was toasted so that it did not get soggy at all! The service was amazing. We went here on a sunday morning because we wanted an easy breakfast in town with no hassles parking. Been to the other locations but hadn't really tried out the new Ala Moana location yet. Parking: They have their own lot but there are a lot of restaurants so the lot might be full. Tons of parking right behind the restaurant at Ala Moana by Sears. Atmosphere: Diner like. Similar to their other locations. Some Hawaiiana things. No major complaints. Service: This place is crowded on weekend mornings. We were initially told the wait was 20-25 mins but we said we were willing to sit at the bar and got seated right away. When we left almost an hour later, the people in front of us in line were still waiting for a table. The bar has about 6 seats so if you're alone or with only 1 person definitely take the bar seat. Once we order the food came out pretty quickly. Cost: About $10-$12 per plate. Portions are average. ID card gives 10% off. I ordered corn beef hash with eggs and my gf ordered chocolate chip pancakes. My food was pretty standard. GF's order had 5 pancakes; there were chocolate chips on top and some inside the pancakes. The pancakes were pretty chocolaty. Nothing about the food was amazing; everything was pretty standard and fine but not spectacular. Basically your typical diner food. This eggs 'n things is easier than the other locations due to ample parking and convenient location. Just expect a long wait at breakfast time. read more

Talk about sweet dream heaven! Our teens had the french toast special that morning. (strawberries, white chocolate chips and whip cream) Of course they loved it with the coconut and guava syrups! These syrups are to die for and I'm definitely stocking this up at home. I had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict but thought the cakes lacked a little flavor. I'll try an omelette for sure next time. But I think the big hit for the morning was my hubby's pork adobo fried rice! Thumbs up for sure. We'll definitely be back for that one!! read more

You know what's sad, the food is good ... but the service here is what is lacking ... Staff is not smiling ... you are overstaffed ... water is not brought till after 10 minutes of sitting down ... coffee is served cold, no place settings on the table ...
