Had to finally try the Slut to find out what all the hoopla was all about. Luckily, I was in line on a Sunday at 10am, so the wait was under 20 mins. Later that day, the wait was closer to 45 mins to an hour. Slut was good, and very tasty...well seasoned, and that runny yolk really help add the creaminess to the mashed potato base as well as help getting all ingredients mixed together. However, if you don't mix everything up thoroughly, like me, you'd end up with a bite or two that contained too much salt. No more crostinis, just a small sourdough roll. Crostinis were better as they were easy to smooth on a decent amount of the well mixed Slut for the perfect bite. With the roll, having to tear through it, it just didn't make a good enough vessel to spread the Slut on evently. It's quite good. If the wait was 15 mins and under, I'd get it again, or try another dish. Over 20 mins to wait and, no, not worth it enough for that long of a wait, especially these days when they have stiff competiton from Wexler's Deli, Belcampo Meats, and the newly opened Bombo and La Tostaderia Seafood -- all of which are really good in their own reich. read more

We ordered the Slut thinking it would be a sandwich but it ended up being a egg dish in a jar with a side of baguette. We got lucky on a Tuesday right after the lunch rush at 1:00. The line was maybe about 10 mins and we got our food in about 10mins or less. I got the Fairfax which consisted of a chive scramble and cheese on a buttery brioche bun. I had to add avocado and bacon. It was okay.... The eggs was definitely well cooked being moist and fluffy. The poorest customer service I've ever experienced. We ordered 3 fairfax sandwiches which came out extremely salty. After taking a few bites, we decided to ask for them to be re-made. I was hoping for something amazing based off of everyone's reviews on Yelp and their great pictures. Unfortunately, my standards were too high and I was let down quickly. The line wasn't terrible but it was closer to 10am so the rush might have been over by then. Off the bat ordering was an unpleasant experience seeing as the woman at the register was busy in a conversation with another employee to only rudely interact with me especially regarding any questions. Being in customer service myself, I know how easy it can be to treat each guest as just another transaction but it isnt a pleasant start to not only people's mornings but off the bat started to form my opinion. I ordered the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich as well as a side of biscuits having heard that they were coveted. While everything was hot I found the sandwhich lacking in flavor, no salt or pepper seemed to be used in the cooking of the egg or the preparation of the sausage. I felt it was rather bland and in need of seasoning to kick it up a notch. The biscuits smelled great and came with honey butter but lacked a flakiness I expect in biscuits as well as flavor. Normally, biscuits might lean toward a salty or sweet finish but these were dense and tasted plain. A big let down seeing how everyone on Yelp emphasized getting to these before they sold out but as a biscuit baker/maker/and eater, I was disappointed. Came to the Grand Central Market around 10 AM on a Friday morning and was super excited about trying Eggslut. After a 15 minute wait in line, we ordered a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich and a Slut. Once we ordered the food was ready in about five minutes and we had no problem finding seating for 2. Honestly, I think this place is way overhyped. The BEC sandwich was nothing special, and the Slut just tasted like average mashed potatoes. The "baguette" served with the Slut was tough and both of our dishes were lukewarm. I had heard about Eggslut, and was tempted to go many times since it was right on my way to work, but was always deterred by the line. One day, randomly, the line wasn't long. I seized the moment. I got what seems to be their main attraction: an egg sandwich with cheese and bacon on a brioche bun. I ate it at work and it was every bit as glorious as I had imagined. The brioche was soft and sweet, the egg perfectly runny, the cheese melted and rich, and just the right amount of bacon. The only thing that made the experience less than perfect was that I ate it in my office cafeteria area, and one of my supervisors walked by right as the egg yolk exploded all over my face.
