Staff service is hit or miss. Today, asking for a particular bagel in an almost empty basket and get yelled at by manager Asia that they cannot do that. The young lady on the other side quickly gets the bagel without a problem and gets yelled at. If Asia has politely explained to me that the staff is not allowed to pull out a bagel of my choosing even if there are five bagels left, I would have chalked it up to a ridiculous policy and accepted it. But being yelled at without a reasonable explanation is unacceptable. The Einstein in Reston VA is so much better. read more

Chaotic. A bagel war zone. I give them 2 stars instead of one because there are some sweet employees there. But there are also several abrupt and very rude employees as well. I will chalk it up to bad management. The manager himself didn't seem all that polite and also didn't stay and watch over things to make sure that all went smoothly. Usually you can look to management. The cashier helping a customer next to me was laughably rude to the person she/he was helping. She/he was yelling at people to step away from the counter when done. She/he was more drill Sergeant than cashier. I couldn't help but laugh with nervous energy with the customers she/he was so rude to. They too were a bit confused by this treatment. They got my order wrong. I told a few of them plus the manager who he himself was short fused. They all acted like they were going to fix it, then they did nothing. The manager walked away and went in the back and didn't oversee to make sure things ran more smoothly despite a few incorrect orders coming out. I waited, thinking they were actually doing something. Finally, after a good while, I checked in with a nice employee and when she tried to remind the cook who obviously didn't remember to remake my order and SHE got yelled at by the cook. Lol it's nonsense. I apologized to the employee on the cooks behalf. Thankfully I am pregnant and super chill today. Or else I would have maybe confronted them all back. Abysmal would be the word best to describe my experience here. Normally I'm a big fan of Einsteins, but the service, wait, and food were absolutely horrible. We had two orders and didn't get our first one for 20 minutes. Even then the bagel still had the wrapper on the cheese when we finally got it. The second order (a simple bacon egg and cheese) didn't come out until another 20 minutes later after I had to flag down one of the servers for the second time. I love the bagels and cream cheese at Einsteins! Since its a chain, everywhere you try the food is the same which I love to count on. I used to go to the Chicago locations when I lived there. I am so happy they now have the jalapeño salsa cream cheese, it was delish! On top of a sesame bagel its my ideal breakfast/lunch with their chai tea latte. Einstein Bros Bagels is normally my go-to place for a great variety of bagels and cream cheese. Every since the female manager left this location, the service and food quality and gone totally downhill. Management does not have a hands-on approach with customers nor their staff when the restaurant has a line. This place is now impossible to get in and out in a timely manner. What happened to service with a smile. If you are looking for it, go across the street to Starbucks. They really should bring back the female manager because she had the right personality for the location and customers loved her. read more

Let's face it...bagel options in DC are not good. Though we are but 224 miles south of NYC, it is hard to find a good bagel down here. That said, I'm basing this review off of DC bagels, not off of a true boiled NYC bagel. (If that's what you're after, you'll have to make a trip to the Big Apple.) I'm loving the new Einstein's location. It's extremely convenient (no other locations in this entire region were convenient to me until this one opened), it's large and spacious, there's plenty of furniture of all sorts for sitting, reading, working, etc., there's wifi, etc. The staff here seems friendly, but I wish they'd be more diligent about keeping the turnover on the coffee more frequent. It's supposed to be standard at Einstein's to have timers on the coffee so that none sits around for more than an hour, but the timers on most of the coffee options had run out. I do love the "Darn Good Coffee", and the ones with the timers still fresh were tasty. PS - the pumpkin "shmear" (cream cheese) is to die for. Best cream cheese ever. The blueberry is pretty darn good, too. read more

I am not sure how it is possible to mess up bagels. But somehow, this location does it often. It is always dirty inside, as if they are either opting not to clean it or not scheduling enough people to take care of orders and maintain a clean dining area at the same time. If you visit after rush-hour, on a weekday, it will probably be a decent experience being as everybody is at work or school. However, stay far away on the weekends, when it's crowded. Or, if you don't want to stay far away, check your order before you leave. When I tolerate this place, my favorite is a toasted cinnamon-raisin bagel with maple smear. Do not get double-toasted, like you might do at a traditional bagel spot, because sometimes this place uses pre-toasted bagels and it'll basically be burnt with a double toast. I decided to try this place out because I know some friends who like it. I walked in to find a huge line with slow service. When I finally got to the register, my top two menu choices "had run out" and they refused to make more. I settled for a different type of bagel but then they made that order incorrectly. I recommend skipping this one, especially during the lunch hours. The food is decent but the service is enough of a reason not to come. read more

If I could put 0 stars I would. This location messes up my bagel everytime I go there. I tell them over and over what I want and they still mess it up. They always enter the wrong order even when I reiterate what it is that I want. I asked for no cheese she put cheese on it I told her it was wrong she made another and what did she do ? She put cream cheese on it ...I said no cheese but obviously she felt the sandwich needed cheese and some how a different form of cheese made its way on there. I asked to pick 6 bagels and he was rude and condescending and challenged my order saying there's no such thing as a "pick 6 bagel" special when, at one time, use to be. He then proceeded in making me wait 10 minutes for just these 6 bagels and got 4/6 WRONG!!! Disappointingly bad. My coworkers are always going there and I don't know why. They have to pass several good restaurants like a Jimmy Johns and a Brueggers Bagels to get to the Einstein bagel shop. The often seem out of stock of the best bagels and what they do have is hard and stale. The counters are often messy. The staff tries to rush your order. Maybe I'm just slow because I have trouble trying to figure out which inferior bagel I want to try. I watched them make the egg from that liquid egg in a carton stuff.
