I have been several 7 Mares restaurants and love the consistency of their entrees. My go to dish is the Camarones ala Diabla. Very spicy jot but absolutely delicious. Best ceviche I've ever had. This is my go to spot when craving finely chopped ceviche with an abundance of flavors. They have a solid happy hour and no complaints on their service. Alright, I had to Google earth this location to confirm it, but the target is painted, and the aim is nice lunch. I don't know what kind of laundering is taking place here, but I got a weird vibe walking in. First off, it's set up like a market or a deli, which is cool because there's seating outside, but the west building is now closed, so maybe the east building is just picking up the slack, only covid knows. On the east building, there's a window with a counter like the 7 Mares on Cesar E Chavez, but I walked in anyways and asked the lady at the counter "should I order here?" She shrugged and said si. Spanish it is then, no worries, numero ocho por favor, con agua. She told me the total en español and I didn't catch it from behind her mask, so I looked at the teller to see. $12 I gave her and then slipped a little something into the plastic cup. She didn't seem to care one bit. I went to use the restroom and by the time I was done, my food was up. 7 Mare never disappoints with regards to the food, maybe the vibe is just another thing. She called me joven, which I found charming, as I've surely got a decade on her, but perhaps that was just her showing appreciation for the business and the tip. Cool times we're living in. Sunset) prompted me to skip my precious Wednesday Fish Taco nite @ Tacos Baja Ensenada and damnit was it a mistake! The $3+ shrimp taco and $2+ fish taco were both completely tasteless, browned by dirty frying oil, topped with bland sour cream. the shrimpies, tho hefty, were beyond fried and badly battered, pun intended. shrimp empanada was doughy, not crispy, while the crispy shrimp taco... nevermind. it doesn't matter. we ate $12 worth of extremely bad crap. no worries tho! all that shitty taste was all drowned by the Mexican elixir, aka, 500ml of Mexican Coke, courtesy of $0.99 store. N.B.: this is only for the grocery section of the 7 Mares on Whittier in Montebello, no idea how the restaurant actually performs. Went in on a Wednesday for fish tacos. Got two Togo and eat them both before I made it home. The fish was fried just right and they weren't skimpy on the amount. They put the sauces on the side. The restaurant itself is bare. They could use a tv or something but they do have an old fashion jukebox. Didn't really get to interact with the waitress. Tried this place after hearing about it through conversation. Not the place to be for me. Most of the food is store bulk frozen and refried. There is so much potential here and they waste it for easy money. The sampler or 'Botana Familiar' was a serious miss. So overcooked it was barely edible. I tried one of each item which was like chewing a really thick rubber band. The cocktail juice was the only thing authentic and it was good, but they added frozen seafood mix. The ranch was out of the cooler the entire time we were there and was out when we were waiting to be seated. Questionable. Staff are ok at best. Our waitress could have use a shirt 2 sizes larger that would have fit her. The buttons were literally popping off revealing boobage. Not what you want with dinner, we'll me anyway. I went to El 7 mares pescaderia/carnicería to but a box of oysters for a small get together for a Friday night 2 weeks ago. I had called in a day before came in on Friday afternoon asked the guy he asked another guy a question and walked out for 15 minutes I was wondering what was going on finally he came back in with a yellow ban Oyster box and laid it on the counter. I asked him if the were fresh and if he had the info tag that came with the box (since 6 years ago I purchased a box in 2010 and the oysters seems like they were a tad past their expiration they had a slight not normal smell). He said yes so I purchased them $79 dollars went home in a hurry to put them on my fridge with ice. The tag said they were picked on Jan 19th 2017 and were good till Feb 1st. That same night when. The party was beginning I started chucking oysters to my surprise they were completely frozen inside! It was a party pooper! I had to work around them and make oyster cocktails to let the frozen oysters unfreeze in the liquid. Till today 2 weeks later the I've hasn't melted in my fridge. Don't do it guys, just don't do it. Since I was a teenager I have been to all the 7mares Restaurants. I would go so often that the owner, RIP would let me make my own inventions or add a little pizzazz to my plates. I used to come here with my chick Letty Macias since the start. While the original owner was alive, all the branches seemed to run well. The quality and prices were consistent with the exception of the Pomona Rest. Oh be careful with the main Mariachi guy because if you have a hot chick, he'll defiantly hit on her. Check his right hand and ask him what happened to his pinkie. When he panics tell him George says hello!! This particular review of the last visited, The CESAR CHAVEZ REST AND WHITTIER... OK we were craving good soup. We decided to go there and upon arrival we were seated but you know me. I didn't like the booth. It was next to slobbering lady w 3little kids running a muc. Yuk! I pointed where I wanted to sit and was told that that section was closed. I responded, "It just opened". So I went to sit at this reserved section. OK at this time they had quite a variety of soups such as the chupacabra and the regular 7mares soup. The "off menu" Chupacabra soup consisted of some very large prawns and good broth. The 7 Mares has seven things in it; fish,clams,crab,shrimp,octopus and fake abalone. Of course veggies. It's pretty good but for the best, ASK ME!!!!! Don't get me wrong, lot of the food is good. The fried fish is good All shrimp plates are good Fish tacos are good Oh oh!! Ask them for extra garlic sauce on the side, and then ask me what in it!! The food is generally good where ever you go, As for the soups, I have had lots better, Just one thing!! On my last visit, my soup came spilling over with goodies including a long hair in it..... and a bonus.... A BIG FAT ROACH under the plate. I tried to be suave and eliminate it. But a min later there were three more on the table looking for the food we just ordered. So, since no one touched the food. I paid for the drinks and got up. Get this: the staff got pissed and said I had to pay and that they would call the police. Of course I welcomed this but didn't have time to wait since I was hungry. So, I left my card and asked them to give it to the police. I Said good by and that i would see them in the morning along with the health department.... On my way out I told the staff that they are a bunch of pigs and should clean better, also that they had quite the nerve to raise prices when they are giving such bad quality food. Oh, and mind you! I went here on 08/05/18 around 7:20pm , I went to the section where it says FOOD TO GO (the market area). I really cant say nothing bad about the food, I had the ceviche and I thought it was pretty good ! The part that I didnt like was the bad customer service from the cashier. I arrived to place my order on the outside window, I waited and waited and no one offered to help, after 5 min i went to the inside of the store and told the cashier that no one was helping me at the window, she apologized and said that she didnt see me. I placed my order, and then i paid, she asked what kind of drink i wanted. So i waited for my drink, hanging around the seafood market, I saw another girl come in and go behind the counter, they talked and laughed and she even put one leg on the counted as they seemed to be having a good time, I figured i wasn't getting my drink so i went outside and wait, I recieved my food and i waiting for the drink, the cook walked away and the cashier was busy. I started eating my food, after a while, i was thirsty, I went to window and waited, the cashier was still chatting with the other girl, i tried to get her attention but im assuming she couldnt hear me, I left my food and went inside, the cashier walked away towards the back of the store, when she returned, she gave me my drink and I told her that she had bad customer service and asked why I takes so long to get youre drink, she said that she didnt know the cook had already gave me my food, you serious??? and then she explained that she had to go to the back to get her friends check because she works with her and she has to get paid, Im like WHAT? I haven't been to the other El 7 Mares locations, but from what I've read this location sounds like it's the step-child of the El 7 Mares family. My office recently moved to the area so I thought I'd check it out. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 6. Not the best Mexican I've had, but not the worst either. Good chips and salsa, slightly lower than average service, and horchatas that come in 20 oz. cups for just $2 (can't beat that). The rice is made with peas and carrots, which makes it pretty legit in terms of authenticity. We were pretty much the only ones there during lunch...maybe this place is more of a Friday night date destination for the locals? And FYI, it's not in the best neighborhood, so leave your Louis at home, ladies. read more

Good ole fashion Mexican style seafood brunch. Not to be confused with the market with a small Fastfood next door(it seems like the same owners). I was here 10 years ago, and not much has change. This good part is the food quality and service is still excellent, this has not changed. I love being greeted by nice ladies wearing cool sailor moons style outfits. Not your typical seafood Resturant. The offerings is plentiful, but seems a little lacking considering this is a Mexican brunch. First visit to the salad bar, the usual greens, melons, pineapple, plus a bonus of peel and eat shrimp, crab legs, and oysters on the half. The later is my favorite, I go through dozen of those easily. There is also a hot soup bar, menudo and birria(Mexican goat soup) both are good remedy for hangovers on a Sunday morning. The fixings are all there, cilantro, onions, oregano, lime, and chili flakes. I really like both and the quality is excellent. The cuts of meat is nice sized and the flavor is right. There is also a deep fry section, my favorite is the shrimp wrapped with bacon stuffed with cheese. This thing is God sent and whomever invented this is a genius. The bacon is crispy, shrimp has a crunch and cheese oozes. You gotta be there to enjoy it, I had this a week ago, writing about this makes me want to visit them again tomorrow. The only negative about this is the facility, it's tired and boring. Although they are going through what it seems like a renovation. Ceviche de Cameron, fish, lobster, carne asada, etc. They have a buffet during the week and on the weekends reasonably priced and the food is good too. The only thing that I've ordered here & recommend is their ceviche de camaron (like a shrimp salsa).
