Food was good but they must have forgot to put tequila in our 36.00 margarita, not good.

The person seating us was nonverbal, not even hello. The person taking our order was not friendly or helpful. They got my mom's order incorrect and she ordered one of their standard combos by number. The waiter never checked on us, never refilled our drinks, just dropped food and left. The food was unimpressive and wrong. When we got the check we had been charged for something we never received. I waited for the waiter to come back by, 10 minutes later I flagged someone down and asked for a manager - crickets ... never came by. I finally saw our waiter flagged him down, told him about item we didn't receive. He corrected the bill, but still said almost nothing. We will never go back. The salsa was the only thing that was excellent. Just for context we're from Texas and big fans of Mexican food done right. This is not that. read more

I had the chicken burritos and a chorizo taco that were stuffed with moist and temder meat. Perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. El Agave is one of my favorite mexican restaurant in the whole area next to one little spot in Florissant. This place is so amazing, I always ge the carne asada. Their alcohol is served in a HUGE glass- so good. The chips are so fresh, and the service there is amazing. They always treat us like we are family when I go there with basically anyone. I respect them so much, and love this place to eat. My mom comes to visit me and my brother a couple times a year and we always come here to eat. Amazing, amazing, amazing. read more

A friend of ours wanted to go to a Mexican restaurant. I am allergic to beans, so my husband and I only go if other people want to go. I love salads, so I usually order only a salad and figure that no beans will have touched it. My allergy is not deadly, but rather annoying. I always bring an antihistamine just in case my food is contaminated with beans. I did not set my expectations very high. I LOVED the food here. I got a side salad and took a risk and ordered the mushroom and cheese quesadilla that came with Mexican rice. The salad was shredded iceberg lettuce. So, if you are hoping for a nice dark green leafy salad, I am not sure that this is the place to go. I asked for the salad dressing on the side just to make sure it would not be swimming in it. The shredded lettuce was topped with tons of cheese and many green peppers. I left much of the cheese and took off the green peppers. Green peppers mess my stomach up. The peppers looked fresh, though. There were a few tomatoes that were also on the salad that tasted good. If they served fresh spinach, romaine, or something that would be greener and more nutrient dense that would be nice. I still enjoyed the salad even though it was just shredded iceberg lettuce. The mushroom and cheese quesadilla was superb. There were tons of mushrooms. In fact, there were more mushrooms than cheese. However, there was still plenty of yummy cheese. This quesadilla was terrific for a person like me who does not usually eat meat and loves vegetables and mushrooms. The cheese had a nice consistency and was delicious. The tortillas were yellowish in color and very tasty. Again, the mushrooms were very nicely spiced and there were a lot of them. The Mexican rice that came with the quesadilla was spiced nicely and very delicious. There was a lot of food. I ate half of the rice and quesadilla at the restaurant and took the rest home. I had the other half cold for breakfast and it still tasted really good. We went on a Tuesday at around 5:30 PM, so we had no problem getting a table. The service was quick. We ordered and the food came quickly. I have read in other reviews that they had a problem with service, but our experience was as lovely as the food. The service was friendly, very smiley, happily answered our questions, and responded to any requests we had. I read some people complain about their strawberry margaritas saying that they were weak. My friend had one, so I thought I would try a sip. It was not weak at all. Trust me. I know when a drink is weak or not. Now, it could be that it depends on who is making it, but frozen strawberry margarita was not weak the day we went. If you happen to get a weak drink, send it back immediately and politely ask for them to make it stronger. The staff was so nice, I am sure they would be happy to accommodate. Also, the most awesome part of my meal is that I had no allergic reaction whatsoever. That means they keep a clean kitchen and do not just slop beans all over the place on all the griddles. I had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience ever at the restaurant in Crestwood. My coworkers and I (a total of ONLY 4 people) ordered 4 separate dishes. It was picked up. When brought in, we noticed that they didnt have my order correct. I ordered a #16, that was supposed to include a Chalupa, a beef chili relleno and an enchalada. I received only the chili relleno. I immediately called and spoke to Rueben who wanted to argue that all my food was there and he personally made sure of it. I explained over and over and he refused to take ownership. He then said to bring it up so he can "show me that it's in there". I came in, produced the untouched meal and even then, he decided to ARGUE with me for over 10 minutes claiming that I didn't order a #16, I ordered a #2 lunch special. I told him I was standing right there when the order was called in and it was for a #16. He argued that it wasn't. I said well even if it was a #2, where is the taco that's supposed to go with it. He then said one of my co-workers took it. I explained again that I was right there, it was only 4 of us, and no one had anything extra. I asked for him to pull up the receipt, which matched the one I had, and when he did, he saw the #16 written on there. He then tried to HIDE that receipt and found another one for $29 (instead of the $17 that was paid) that had a #2 on it, he kept searching his receipts until he found something that had a #2 on it. He kept arguing with me, told me I wasn't listening and refused to accept it!!! He THEN proceeded to tell me that my co-workers switched meals with me and never once took ownership or even apologized. He then said, we'll just give you some "more" food, like I was trying to get over or asking for something EXTRA!!! It was the rudest service I have ever experienced in my entire life!!!! He was so rude, argumentative, unapologetic, and even tried to treat me as if I was lying - during the phone call and even when I brought it up as proof. They then did a rush job with the replacement, never said thanks or sorry and handed me a hot tin foil dish WITHOUT A BAG, NAPKINS, UTENSILS, ETC.....I cannot believe this is how your establishment is ran and my coworkers and I will never return!! Sad thing is, I've visited the Wentzville location, I frequent there often, as well as the one in St. Charles. The service has never been this poor! Someone needs to FIRE Rueben!!!!! There were at least 10 other onlookers - waiters and waitresses and NO ONE stepped in!!! They all allowed him to talk/treat me like a was a begger trying to get a free meal, instead of a patronizing CUSTOMER that ONLY WANTED WHAT I PAID FOR!!!!!!! Amazingly delicious Mexican food! I discovered this place on yelp.com while browsing other reviews in the area and today I found myself in St. Charles around lunch time, very hungry might I add, and decided to check this place out. (Thank the heavens for GPS!) It's located in a shopping plaza...kind of a hole in the wall. But don't let that scare you away. Their chips and salsa were very very fresh and delicious. I knew to expect good things when I enjoyed my chips and salsa. Guacamole was pretty awesome. It could stand to have more garlic and lime in it, but otherwise it was still pretty darned good for a Mexican restaurant in Missouri, haha. I ordered the Lunch combo #1 (Speedy...something or other) --it came with a taco (hard or soft shell, beef or chicken), and an enchilada (once again your choice of meats or just cheese for the veggie folks.) Came with your choice of rice or beans. I opted for beans and so glad I did. They were delicious. Next time I will try rice or maybe see if they can do half and half. Was kinda surprised it didn't come with both but oh well! Very yummy although the ground meat was kind of light in color and appeared sort of...anemic at first glance. Could stand to have bit more spice in the meat, but otherwise very good. Next time I will try a margarita and a quesadilla. Yum! Food was delivered SUPER freaking fast too. By the pervious reviews, I was excited to try this place. However, I will not be back. I have never had a strawberry margarita I didn't like. The pitcher of strawberry- iced, margarita taste like a a strawberry lime-a-Rita. Not good! The service, he makes it seem like we are bothering him by being here. It's only 7pm! We stopped in for a quick lunch. It was a good choice. The staff was extremely friendly. I couldn't ask for a more polite server. He took our orders and the food was out in less than five minutes. It was like fast food wait times, with ten time better food. The prices were very reasonable and the food was on par with the best of Chevy's. Not the best Mexican food (I am more accustomed to Tex Mex. If you're a fan of authentic Mexican it's probably pretty good) but friendly staff and nice environment! Convenient if you're in the New Town, Charles Towne area. Chips and salsa are good though definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

Hubby had shrimp Chimi, said that taste was good but shell seemed under cooked. I had fajita salad and also taste was very good but very liquidy at the bottom and shell that it is served in was not crispy as it should be. Guacamole needed more seasoning or spice. We go here a lot! I've eaten inside, outside, and had carry out. Always the service is great. Every time we have out of town guests we bring them here one night. Guests are always satisfied. Most recently went here with friends for cinco de mayo. It was busy but service was still prompt and food came hot and fast. Margaritas were (and always are) delicious. I have tried a good portion of the menu by now. Haven't tried one thing I didn't like. The fajitas will not disappoint. But my absolute favorite is their pork tamales. TRY THE TAMALES! We don't go here often, however, there is always the idea it is good. The food is pretty good, service is great, food comes out fast , however, there is SMOKING on the patio which I always forget. And that is disgusting. Chain smoking last night on patio by three tables. When your restaurant allows smoking, you attract a "different" class of people. We left early due to it being gross. Just left the restaurant, after eating only half of our meal the table next to us lit up their cigarettes. While being seated we not given a choice for smoking/not smoking. Meal ruined! My brother and I tried them today and were pretty disappointed. It was take-out; we split three beef tacos that came with complimentary salsa and chips. The tacos themselves were fairly pedestrian, the meat had no seasoning, pasteurized cheese was bland, lettuce that added nothing to the mix--in short, it was a flavorless waste of $6. The chips and salsa was even odder because the salsa was so cold, it had ice chips in it. It too lacked flavor, and reminded me of chilled tomato puree with hardly any seasoning. The only good thing? The chips were crispy. While it was a first time engagement, it's a tough sell to want to come back especially since I've had better in California for cheaper. read more

Good fajitas and margaritas ( wish fajitas came with shredded cheese). Salsa is usually really good. Only complaint is hard shell tacos come out soggy on bottom side and very skimpy on the cheese. Servers are friendly and on top of refilling chips, salsa, and soda. We eat there about one out of every ten days. read more

Quality mexican restaurants have always seemed to be lacking in St. Charles. So when I moved back to town after almost a decade away, I was pleasantly surprised by the great experience I had when a friend recommended meeting here! The margaritas were delicious and they actually had an entree that rivaled my favorite Mexican restaurant ever in Tennessee (Arroz Con Pollo). I've tried tracking down something similar for years without any luck until I found it at El Gave. All in all, a wonderful treat! My parents live in New Town so I have been to El Agave numerous times. El Agave does have some good food. I enjoy their chips and salsa and the burritos. I would recommend you stay away from their Mexican eggs as that is one of the few things I have tried that I was not a huge fan of. The Mexican rice and the re-fried beans are both pretty good as well. I wish I could give this 5 stars but I cannot help feel that there are better places out there however I will give this place a solid 4 stars! read more

I'm not sure what to make of all these goos reviews. Perhaps they've never had Mexican food? Chile rellenos are supposed to have a breaded coating... The filling shouldn't have meat or provel cheese. And BTW salsa shouldn't taste like pepper and ketchup. Two stars is only because the chips were crunchy and good. read more
