I just didn't like the food. The mole was fine but chicken had no texture, rice was passable, beans were tasteless and the flour tortillas were some of the worst I've had in town. I guess I should have gone with corn to be more traditional but didn't think about it until it was too late as every other place has the most awesome and wonderful flour tortillas. I finally got to try café de olla for the first time, and wow... I had no idea what to expect. I was shocked it was already perfectly sweet and so smooth! For lunch, we had chicharrón en salsa verde with Frijoles refritos and a plate of chilaquiles (both salsa verde and rojo) topped with eggs. This place is just absolutely AMAZING in every way!! We were celebrating my Daughter's 33rd Birthday. We had a reservation at The Bread Box and sadly, it was a really horrible experience and their rude staff almost ruined our day. La Fonda MX came to the rescue! We found them online and called to see if they could accommodate a family of 14! They immediately said yes and had the tables put together/ready for us when we arrived. It was cute, well decorated and comfortable. We basically almost took over the whole place. The food was outstanding. It was all cooked fresh/made to order. The different salsas on the Huevos Divorciados was the best I have ever had. I know this will sound crazy because it's just toast but the avocado toast was also the best I've ever had. That will be one of my favorites. It had amazing freshness and so much flavor. Our whole family is still talking about the coffee! The Cafe De Olla is absolutely to die for. I have to find out how to make this coffee! This is definitely our new favorite place! The Owner checked on us several times. The servers were attentive, friendly and efficient. They even surprised my daughter with a delicious piece of chocolate cake and candle for her birthday. La Fonda MX - you really saved the day! We had a wonderful time, delicious food and a great experience. We will be regular customers! We were such a big group that I neglected to take photos of the many delicious plates. We went today for the first time and we had such a wonderful lunch. The owner greeted us at the door and just from walking in the place it had an upscale homie feel. I had the enchiladas Tres Moles with chicken. Each enchilada had a different molé on it. Molé poblano, molé adobo and a pipian molé verde. The enchiladas were filled well and they were absolutely delicious. This is not Tex-Mex. This is Mexico. I also had the Mexican coffee, Café de Olla. Wow! I don't think I can ever drink coffee the same again. This was truly wonderful. We also had a Chocoflan. I'm not a flan fan but this was so good I will definitely go back for more. I was fortunate to find La Fonda Mx for my last breakfast on this visit. It is my favorite meal of the day and therefore especially important in my travels. We were greeted at the door with a friendly, "Good Morning" and genuine smile, instantly making us welcome guests in the intimate dining room. The aroma from the kitchen only increased our hunger as we browsed the curated menu of regional Puebla Mexican specialties. A bit unfamiliar at first, but an enticing change from the norm. After ordering, my breakfast arrived sizzling at the table and our eyes uncontrollably widened at what we about to savor. My guest let out an audible, "Wow" acknowledging the spectacle. The presentation and aroma did not deceive us. Every bite was delicious and we agreed this was the best meal and restaurant we experienced during this trip. Service was great as well as the food! Husband got the 3 mole enchiladas and they were delicious! I got the huevos divorciados and they were delish as well. Enjoyed some cafe de olla which had the great cinnamon and maybe piloncillo flavor.
