Went to El Cajon Ford Service to check why my 2002 Ford Ranger would not clear the OBD system monitor to allow emissions test to proceed. Apparently, not uncommon if the battery has been disconnected which resets the monitor. After driving many miles, as advised by the emissions tech and my local mechanic, the OBD monitor check would not reset. So, brought truck to El Cajon Ford with an Initial estimate $125 to check it out. But had to wait two days as they were busy. After third day I called and Service rep checked and said it would be $300 to check it out due to my description of the problem. Ummm...$300 to just check it out? Needless to say, I said no. Called La Mesa Penske Ford Service desk and described the issue and ask his estimate to check it out. He said $0. He directed me to Google 2002 Ford Ranger Drive Cycle reset. Low and behold, there were clear instructions how to drive my truck to clear the monitor. After driving two cycles, just to be sure, I brought truck back to emissions center and the monitor was cleared and I passed my emissions test. So, El Cajon Ford Service either 1) wanted to turn me away with a high estimate, and or 2) was ignorant of the drive cycle fix, and or 3) and most likely, was simply taking me for a ride. Dropped my car off to get the computer replaced in my car. The tech was nice, but it was super difficult to get ahold of him. After three days of calling, leaving messages on a voicemail and with other employees I finally just showed up to get my car back. They were unable to replace the computer. It's amazing just how horrible this Ford place is. Went there six days ago to drive and order a Bronco Sport. Gave them a deposit check and was told we'd receive a call when the 23 models came out in a few days. We were ready to roll with this purchase. Never got a call. Turns out the guy didn't even remember who we were or that we'd given him a check. He kept trying to patch me through to someone else who I'd only been talking to to get to him. Even after giving my name, a description of me and my husband and recounting our test drive together--- he still didn't have a clue- or even the desire to find out. We had been with him for about two hours last week. I finally called the manager and was met with nothing but excuses. I told him to rip up our check. With this as a way to start, going through with this large of a purchase there would have been a huge gamble. Guess I dodged a large bullet there. Recently (August 11, 2022) the Power Steering failed on our 2008 Escape and we were desperate to get it repaired. I took my 2017 Ford Fusion which has about 24k miles to have a tire looked at that kept loosing air. This is not the first time I took the car to them for the same reason. Air was at 27 and should have been at 33 or 34 pounds. The first time they obviously did nothing but add air as I had to return I a second time. The customer service person was a young woman who told me it would be about an and that she was leaving to go to the bank and would be back in time to finish up my repair work. More than an hour went by and she had not returned so I asked another customer service man to find out if my car was ready. He came back and said it was, but that my lug nuts were swollen and I needed to replace them. I declined a $66 lug nut replacement. In comparison to those horrible experiences El Cajon ford was lovely. Their was no rush, or aggressive sales tactics. I purchased a used truck 6 weeks ago and once I looked at it and wanted to buy it, but then they said the truck wasn't ready for sale even though it was posted all ready to go online. I had to wait three days before I could even purchase the vehicle, and today the check engine light came on SIX weeks later after purchasing. I take it in talk to a manager and someone in service by the name of Eli and they tell me it'll take 2/3 days to even scan the truck, and then they want me to pay out of pocket $180 just to scan it, and they wouldn't even lend a courtesy vehicle if my truck had to be there for a couple days when it's my only transportation. Well folks looks like I spoke too soon. Took our 2017 Ford Explorer in to get diagnosed because one check engine kept going on and off. 2nd its running sluggish and it just seems like it could be the transmission. Keep in mind we bought the vehicle with a warranty. We brought the car in afternoon of June 25th for appointment with El Cajon Ford on Wednesday the 25th. Thursday they called and said it needs a $500 tune up. We declined the $500 tune up and asked if they could please check the transmission and list of issues we were having with it before warranty runs out. My husband called Yesterday to check the status they said they could not check transmission because we declined the $500 tune up. This is ridiculous... People ... friends ... please don't go to Ford. Save time and heartache. We have a sick kiddo with Leukemia and all we want is a vehicle that is reliable to get to treatments and for my husband to go back and forth to work. We aren't asking for much just fix it...we have a warranty!! There are so many issues and recalls .... holy crap ... we get these postcards about the recalls and lawsuits! Its so crazy! Ok maybe its our bad ... we bought a FORD but this is truly a let down. I understand some people are happy with Fords and that's awesome but unfortunately for us we got totally mislead. He told me they would give me a discount if I got a new engine, but wouldn't say how much and wouldn't put it in writing. In the end they made it right, but it took a lot of effort. The service department runs with the poorest display of efficiency I have ever experienced in my life. Their customer service is not only unorganized and seemingly unaware of what is going on as a whole under their roof; they are rude and rarely respond within the timeframe they provide you if at all. By the time I picked my car up for the second (yes, second) time, they needed an entire 7 months to properly fix the car. This being after them having failed to isolate the issue the first go round (which took 4 months) so ineffectively my cars transmission literally broke down on the highway as I was driving my "fixed" car home from the shop! The sales manager on duty offered to bring my truck to the back inside the secured gate and under cover so it would not get rained on causing water damage in the vehicle. I purchased my Ford maverick at El Cajon Ford. I have taken it there for a safety recall in order to replace airbags, but was advised that they did not have the parts. I called one other time to find if they had the parts about a month or two later, and they did not have the parts according to the service attendant. I called today to get the recall done and was advised that they have the recall parts but that I should try to take it to another Ford dealer because they were too busy. They also said that I would have to leave it there for 4 to 5 days in order to have the work completed. I called another Ford dealer and was advised that they could see me tomorrow and that the work would take 1/2 a day. I am very dissatisfied with El Cajon Ford's response. I cannot in good conscience recommend them. The service department should be considered prior to buying a vehicle from them. read more

Since my technician (frank) won't return my phone calls maybe this review will get there attention.... We dropped my ford explorer off TWO WEEKS AGO. We were having problems with the front passenger seat being stuck in the forward position, as well as the third row seats not working. When we dropped it off we were told we would have a diagnosis within 2-3 days. On day 3 we had to call the service department because we hadn't heard from them. They seemed confident they knew what the problem was but didn't have a quote for us yet. The following day we had radio silence so we called frank and he said he would go check with the tech in the back and call us back in 10 minutes. Hours go by, and again radio silence. At this point we have called almost on a daily basis and get absolutely nowhere and no answers. Our car has been there for over TWO WEEKS now with the worst communication and service I have ever experienced. You take your car to the dealership for outstanding service, this is not at all what I would have expected when working with a reputable dealership. Don't allow lies to be told to boost your income. I was told I had swollen lug nuts and bad tires. They rep told me they could not remove the lug nuts because they were swollen. When I got home I checked my lug nuts and did not find them to have any defects. I was able to remove them with no problem and I know you have better tools than I do. I find this to be a your way of saying that the customer is to stupid to check your work so we can profit off this stupidity. I have done business with El Cajon Ford for more than 30 years, I am wondering how many times you ripped me off because I was to stupid to check your work and how many others you took advantage of me. After researching what swollen lug nuts. I found there are 2 causes, bad weather areas with snow and salt on the roads which never happens in San Diego and someone using the wrong size socket to remove the lug nuts, I have had all my services done by you and no one else has removed the lug nuts but during your services. If I really had swollen lug nuts it would be you that caused it. Also find that Ford does not cover this defective part under warranty. This makes no sense and shows that Ford can no longer be trusted as they sell defective parts and don't care how this affects their customers. As you asked 140 dollars to replace the lug nuts I looked up the cost of replacing them and got a lifetime warranty on a new set that cost 22 dollars on Amazon, since there may be a time in the future that these go bad I went ahead and replace them. see picture of the originals attached which shows they are not swollen. eugenelane@cox.net read more

I told the adviser I would pick up later since there were busy, He responds with okay, I will put you down for pick up at 1pm. Now it's FIVE hours later and I'm calling to see if my car is ready or not and they didn't give me no answer on if my car is ready and says your advisor will call you shortly to give you an update on your car then proceeds to hanging up the phone. Then I call back 40 minutes later and my advisor saying that they are barely working on my car and on the paperwork I have you down as a 2:30 pick up. Now I'm pissed because they telling me you sign the paperwork to be pick up at 2:30 instead of what he told me when I walk out the door. Scheduled you pick up at 1pm.
