It's been awhile since I've written a review, however, I couldn't be more excited to share our wonderful experience!! The Ceviche starter and Pipian Verde Enchiladas were both off the charts fresh and delicious! Ceviche: Fresh fish, citrus, sweet, yet firm mango all expertly diced with crisp tortilla chips and perfectly ripe avocado! Perfection on the patio. Pipian Verde Enchiladas with portobellos, peppers and cheese: Vegetarians and Carnivores will not be disappointed! This gorgeous green sauce is rich and nutty without feeling heavy. The chef really achieved great depth of flavor and yet the savory plump mushrooms completely shine on their own. The colorful addition of julienned radish and cilantro on the top added a bit of crunch and a nice splash of contrasting color. All of this tucked into the softest tortillas... I can't wait to go back!! Seriously, the cooks here are amazing. Margaritas: Strong and tangy! A vacation in every sip. Ambiance: Festive, colorful, artistic decor, AND soul music! Yes yes yes! Service: Professional, prompt and very friendly. I also really appreciate the safety precautions in light of covid. Everything was very clean, and the table even included a bottle of sanitizer. Sat down for a light early dinner on their outside patio. Right away the waiter decided that our N95 mask were not good enough for him and asked us if we had another mask with us. We didn't. After his comment, he continued to act oddly and rudely. Example: he asked that if we were to talk to him, we had to stop eating, put our mask on, before asking questions or having any interactions with the staff. When we said we didn't have another type of mask with us, he put our water cups on a separate dining table, that was empty, next to us and told us we can fetch our water glasses. He stood 15 feet away to take our order. We were OUTSIDE on the patio, on a windy day. I understand the dangers of Covid. I understand some people are more freaked out than others. I don't understand the necessity to make a customer of your restaurant, you work for, feel SO UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE OF YOUR COMMENTS AND ACTIONS. He didn't have any issues with the table next to us not wearing a mask at all when he stood next to their table. But, my mask wasn't good enough???? Yes, I could have stood up and left. Maybe I should have. Well, I wanted to try the food. I also believe that one employee's mistake shouldn't tarnish the entire restaurant's reputation. 0 star for the rude employee. Ok...enough of the neg, on to the food: Shrimp tacos- 2 large (16/20 -size) shrimp in each taco wrapped in a double corn tortilla layered with cabbage dressed in a cream cilantro sauce, pico de Gallo and a side of their green avocado mix sauce. Absolutely loved my experience here, even if as adopted San Diegan I am so used to Mexican food and I would not eat that kind in Seattle..actually was mostly searching my way to the Blue Moon burgers when happily found this place. Amazing is not enough. First, I love colorful things and places and this restaurant does not deceive the lovers of all things kitsch, from the 50s movie star posters, to the intricately decorated tables, to the pinatas on the ceiling and all sorts of adornments, mirrors on the wall, and intimate atmosphere. That already opens up the appetite for something delicious. As appetizer I had the ceviche, very citrusy, delicious, perfectly paired with my craft local beer, followed by the Bistec Estilo Capitalino consisting in thin slices of grilled, organic, marinated skirt steak served with cheese enchiladas in mole colorado and garnished with grilled zucchini. I chose the 4 oz. portion with two enchiladas and $14 was an excellent price for the great quality. The mole coloradito was incredibly good. Loved it that almost licked the place...well I confess I did. For dessert, Pastel de Crema y Chocolate, consisting in a semisweet Callebaut chocolate mousse with a sponge cake crust soaked in Meyer's dark rum. I've mixed it up a couple times with dinner or lunch, but it's a routine: happy hour chicken tostada $6 and a drink, a Moscow mule or a non-alcoholic sparkling thyme lemonade or basil lime ginger beer. $5/ea. Parking is easy most of the time, HH ends at 6, and there are lots of options and gluten free/dairy free if ya need! The staff are awesome - and for me, that's how you get 5 Stars. Since I became legal to intake alcohol many years ago, I never had a margarita, so ordered one here. And what's my verdict? It's nothing special but the alcohol in this particular margarita was strong. I can taste some fruitiness but the alcohol was hard to miss. One of these can do me in for the night. My cheeks were warm and I even had a slight buzz AND this was just sharing half the drink with a friend. As for the chocolate mousse cake, it was a great balance after the margarita. Rich chocolate that was balanced out with the sweet tasting raspberry sauce on the side. I would definitely come again and hopefully, on a date. I came here for the first time in July to have some afternoon lunch and drinks with a friend. I had the Torta with Oaxacan mole. Being raised in California and having an amazing mexican cook as a mother I can be particularly picky about certain things. The mole was absolutely fantastic-while not as dark or sweet as other oaxacan moles I've had, this one was a little more reddish in color but still superb. I had to get a side of bread to sop off the rest of the sauce, because there was no way I was going to leave any of it on my plate. One nice touch that I appreciated was the pickled vegetables, crunchy and delightful great complement to the meal. My classic go to drink is always a house margarita with no salt. Great drink, nice and strong too. Our server was an absolute delight and was the appropriate amount of attentive to us. I enjoyed this place so much that I recommended it to my friend and his wife for a visit. They also raved about it. Much like mexican food places in Seattle, I find that you don't get free chips or salsa, but that was fine with me. read more

We went here last night for the first time. One of the best fish tacos I've ever had. Even the rice and beans were seasoned perfectly. We tried three types of margaritas. The Scratch, the Cadillac, and the Top Shelf. Honestly they were all great, but I'd probably stick with the first two. The Top Shelf was $5 more, but the others were awesome and seemed bigger. This place is charming to look at. The original owner did a lovely job, there's cool stuff everywhere. Lots of people like El Camino, as you can see by the crowds during Covid. They've even expanded by 10 or 12 tables out onto the street and sidewalk. I've had many enjoyable meals here over the years. Why four stars then? The food has gone downhill and the service fell off a cliff. Why not less than 4? It used to be so good, and everyone deserves a break during a pandemic. My friend's steak was very good and my tacos were tasty. But it seemed inauthentic and chintzy to serve only one tortilla. The sides were either bland or very salty. There was plenty of staff milling around, but no one spoke to us after taking our order. Not a word - even when dropping off the check. They were the best in Seattle, but they no longer serve them:( We stopped in recently and I split an order of the Chilaquiles De Chile Verde with my husband. Very average. We order a side of Pico de Gallo which I thought added more to the dish as it was on the dry side. We ask for margaritas without SALT but got tons of salt. I try to only come here when it's happy hour, since the serving sizes are pretty small for their prices, but even then, the food, especially the tacos, are overpriced. It also fills up if you get here later. The chilaquiles verdes are enough to be shared with at least 2 people, but the chips start getting too soggy. I had my first chile relleno here and probably won't order that again, since I didn't know what I was getting into. It was basically just a huge chile in soupy/saucy cheese, so it was hard to eat with the tortillas. The enchiladas and tacos are nothing special, but not bad besides the tiny serving sizes. The carnitas tacos I ordered we good, but not amazing. I made it through half of one taco and a few bites of rice and beans and was done. The amount of meat in the tacos was very generous, though. I like doing sight seeing in my own town and summers in Washington are a great time to get outside to see outside features. They are usually very dry and hot... sometimes too hot for my tastes but the outings usually are fun. I was in the Fremont neighborhood to go look at the Fremont Bridge and came across El Camino. I was definitely wanting some Mexican food but wanted something light as I usually do when summer rolls around. El Camino was on my "To Try" list for a little while and I seized the opportunity to get a bite to eat before proceeding to the bridge. I got seated quickly which was great. In fact the service had a brisk pace throughout the whole meal and was always friendly which was a plus to the meal. For my meal I ordered two things. I got a beet salad or what they called the Ensalada De Betabel. This salad contained organic red beets, poblano peppers, avocado, red onion, cilantro, queso fresco, arugala and a lime vinaigrette dressing. The salad was wonderful!! I wanted a side dish as well because often times a salad just isn't enough. So I got grilled zucchini from their sides menu. Usually zucchini is cut into coin shapes but the way this side dish was served it was in long strips. Well, that didn't deter me in the slightest. The zucchini was amazing as well and just enough to make the meal feel satisfying. I would indeed make a point to come back here. The food was refreshing and unique from your usual Mexican fare which made it a memorable experience. read more
