Que rico!!! Stopped here while waiting for our connecting flight and it was everything we wanted the Papa a la huancaina was perfect, I had all the sauce! The Ceviche Al Chalan was to die for, the chorros a la chalaca were perfectly made. We shared the Tacu tacu and Chaufa de Vegetal but we couldn't even finish the Chaufa we were stuffed. The staff was warm and welcoming thank you to Carmen she was very sweet, we will not forget this place and when we come back to Miami we will return! The best fresh food and excellent serv I lived 15 miles from the restaurant but this is my second time and I will keep on coming

So, I've been here multiple times before, but today was a day of many firsts. I usually just drop by to do take-out, but today was the first time I actually sat inside. I heard bad things about the decor, but they have renovated and it looks nice inside and very clean. However, I will say that spacious it is not. On the weekends, you may likely end up sitting beside a table that is so close to your neighbors it looks like one big table, lol. It's cool though, the customers typically don't bite. The first thing I ever had here was the jalea mixta and I had never tried anything else besides that since it's so yummy and that salad is simple yet delectable. Today I had the ceviche and it was AMAZING. The seafood was incredibly fresh, soft and tender, and just done perfectly all around. The sweet lime sauce was the perfect mix of a gentle tartness with a touch of sweetness. The sweet potato was an unexpected plus and the flavors blend nicely to create a totally different twist. Long story short--I think I have a new favorite dish :P The lomo was good, but not amazing. I would stick to the seafood to get the best this place has to offer. I would say with confidence that you will surely be satisfied with any seafood dish you have here. Prices here are pretty reasonable as well. The ceviche mixto (octopus, calamari, and fish (bass, I think) on a lettuce leaf topped wtih red onions) was only $11. Come her with lots of time on your hands because, my dears, you will wait...and wait some more, lol. Their food is great but they have been deceptive twice, I call to ask if they have the pan con picante they assure me that they do but when I get there they always tell me they have no bread. If you don't have it just state it from the beginning because being deceived as a customer doesn't make you want to keep going back. read more

I've been coming here for years. This place is consistent with those food I don't think it has ever changed. And it's good. Don't know how the manage to offer fresh delicious seafood at such great prices but they do. My usuals include the jalea de mariscos which is chunks of fish, calamari, shrimp, and mussels battered and deep fried along fried yuca and garnished with red onion slaw. I also love the fish consomé, I swear it cures everything especially the flu! The lomo saltado is really one of the best I've had, the meat is always tender, it comes with rice and fries; and you can also get the pasta version called tallarines saltado. Where this place falls is the service but it's always been that way so I guess I just have that in mind whenever I go and it doesn't bother me much. They are not rude or anything but just disinterested and somewhat brusque. The place is a large family friendly area perfect for crowds. But seriously great fish, great value. read more

The food in this place is good. However, when you order take out it's a nightmare! They have 1 person in this tiny little window that you pick up the food from. The pick up line is humongous at all times because the same person is taking phone orders, and making coffee for those eating in the restaurant. Furthermore, instead of moving the person at the window along if their order is not ready they just have them stand there holding up everyone else. But when you walk in the restaurant that is halfway full and there's only two people waiting the whole restaurant that is definitely a huge mistake. Came to have lunch with my husband and daughter. Kept it simple with ceviche (mixto) and mine was fish and shrimp (very declious) both and the fried calamari was Devine especially the little white sauce they gave us, it was very good, the service was equally fantastic! Our waitress was great and the other staff members also.. very attentive... highly recommend this place.. we finished our lunch with a 3 leches (out of this world) and a chocolate cake with a very delicious frosting like cream, 5 stars or more if I could. read more

When you first walk in you notice that the restaurant is not fancy and seems more like a cafeteria, with many tables tables within close proximity, but is maintained and very clean. This place is a small hole in the wall , not very big inside but so delicious for some good Peruvian food . I always come with tom family when my step dad feels like having a whole fried fish. It is his favorite from here . I always get the fried fish chunks or the lomo Saltado which is absolutely delicious from here, it's my favorite from here as well as from La Granja. They are usually very busy and packed especially on the weekends so I order take out a lot as well and normally some restaraunts are different when you order the food to go , it's not the same but here it is just as great and delicious even to go ! No matter what the day of the week, nor the time, it seems like every visit to El Chalan is met with a packed house. While the tables may constantly be full, and there is a prolonged din from the other patrons, this Peruvian restaurant does a good job of managing to keep things under control. Service is reliable, and from ceviche to lomo saltado, they've got all the classics. El Chalan may not have the sex appeal of some other Peruvian places in town, but the dishes are flavorful and the portions are ample. For a long time the seafood tacu tacu was my go to dish, kind of a rice and bean cake mixed with seafood doused in an almost gravy. It is quite filling and definitely unique. More recently tried the Pescado al Thermidor (Fish filet and shrimp in a white wine mustard bechamel sauce with mushrooms, covered in melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese) and have since been a convert. Lately find myself craving this dish with alarming frequency. Personally haven't gotten the ceviche, but friends and family who have sing its praises, noting the freshness and flavor. I also really enjoy pairing the food with one of their bright and refreshing fruit shakes. Although it appears there is always a packed house, we've never had a problem snagging a table sans reservations. The food is good, no denying that. The ceviche is pretty good and for the price all the entrees are generously portioned and taste good, but if you care about service this place probably isn't for you. Maybe it was just me but I got the waitress who when I said "I have a question" she looked at me and said "you have a question?" walked away and didn't come back till 10 minutes later. To make it worse, they bring out the wrong food and take 15-20mins to bring out the right one and by then I've already shared a plate with someone else and honestly have no interest in the late $18 plate and I made sure the waitress knew this expecting them to be a little sorry and comp it, this just pissed her off and she had an attitude and pretty much yanked a plate from my guest mid bite to pack it to go. Service in Miami usually sucks in general but this one takes home the trophy But to be fair she did offer us a free "desert" to make up for it, but unfortunately even a free desert couldn't fix this. read more
