This place was great! Food and wine menu well thought out. service was second to none.

I'm definitely 'a fan', but it could get a little better to get the full 5-stars from me. For $30 per entree, yes, I want to enjoy the swankiness of the EDH with it's clean and modern, but welcoming feel, and yes, I want amazing butter with the EDK logo on the top and yes, I also want an almost too pretentious waiter who is there without you even noticing him. And for that $30 entree, the food better be fabulous. For the most part, it was, although the apps were a little better than the entrees. The Wagyu Beef Carapaccio is a must-have, and the crab cakes give new meaning to crab cakes. I was a little let-down with the entrees. There were two on the table - lobster risotto and a cioppino-styled dish. The lobster risotto was tasty, but the sauce was a little thin and the risotto a little too firm. It seemed like it needed just a few more minutes of cook time. And it would have been nice if there was just one more piece of that decadant lobster. The Cioppino-styled dish was superb. It was filled with halibut and mussels and clams. I don't think I've ever had such amazing clams before, but TWO of the mussels didn't open... For a $30 entree, i expect the line cook or chef or whoever to at least take them out. The portion size was large enough, (there were probably 4-5 clams, 2 good pcs of halibut and 6 mussels) that they could have been taken out and I never would have noticed, but I noticed them closed. Minus a star. Desserts were super-yum as well. The chocolate mousse was silky and had a nice crispy wafer. We also ordered the dessert wine flight that was worth every penny, but the dessert flight was served way before the dessert. The timing there was just a little off... The dessert wines were so good that we couldn't wait for dessert to arrive, and killed them way before the dessert was served. There's also a bar with ultra-comfy leather barstools that I nearly disappeared into while waiting for the table. EDK might become my stop for a drink and appetizer before heading home from a day of tasting in Sonoma. read more

This was such a great place! We ate dinner here with a group after a day of wine tasting. All of the food was fantastic. The service was great especially since our group was a bit loud. I had the carbonara and my boyfriend had the chicken. Both delicious! We sat outside near the pool entrance and just really had a great night. They had no issues separating checks either which was a plus with such a great group. My friend that suggested this place said this is his "go to" anytime he is in Sonoma. I'd have to agree! Stumbled upon this gem on our last night in town - what a great way to end our trip. Our waitress was very attentive and gave great suggestions. We shared the steamed curry mussles, roasted king trumpet mushrooms, burrata, blistered shishito peppers as well as the carbonara. Mussles: (flavor was outstanding!) Wish the mussles were a bit bigger as it becomes such a chore to dig those suckers out when they are so small. Mushrooms: I am not a huge mushroom fan (we received this order on accident) but the flavor was good. I believe they just served the stalk which I thought was odd but what do I know. This app didn't really stand out. Burrata: we were left wanting seconds. This dish was AMAZING! It was served with little toasted pieces of baguette and the chipotle sauce served with it was magical. I'm still salivating!! Shishito peppers: they were served in a bowel similarly to the way one might be served edemame​. The waitress had mentioned that they were delicious and not spicy. Wrong!! Most of ours​ were spicy! Flavor was simple. We added a little salt. Another one that didn't exactly knock my socks off. Carbonara: flavor was awesome!! I have now eaten here twice; the food is outstanding for Sonoma, and it is not ridiculously priced (although not cheap either) - but what sets this place apart from others nearby is the service - they really make an effort to please you, and they succeed - for my second visit... my wife and I went there for our 2nd anniversary dinner - they didnt bring us free desert or the cheesy stuff you sometimes get - instead they made us FEEL like we were on a special date - and the food was really, really good - I wish I remember our waiter's name so he could get the recognition deserved read more

What have you done to EDK?!?!?! This has been my go to restaurant for all holidays and special occasions. I have been patronizing EDK since day one. You will NEVER get another nickel out of me. The new management has put a palpable fear into the staff that directly translates to the patrons. I can scarcely recall a more uncomfortable dining experience. As a restauranteur, I always give the benefit of the doubt. Restaurants have good and bad days. NOT HERE. The new dining room manager is visibly a bully, and I will never again pay to dine where the staff is constantly apologizing. Customer.........Service Provider. Celebrated a special event - EDK really made it special with opening drinks, message on the menu and amuse bouche. Waiter, gentleman with glasses and NY accent, was great. Wife enjoyed the paella and I really liked the carbonara. Food was good and came out fast which I like. Truffle fries are great but half order is way to go or else you will get too full. Chocolate pot de creme was on point. Next time we go back to Sonoma might just eat different things at EDK. read more

This review is for the very bad service we received. I used to adore this place until I made a reservation there and had to deal with beyond rude staff and a reservation snafu. I planned a birthday dinner here with 15 of my closest friends. Good food and service was good but I didn't appreciate being in the small decor-less / stale segregated no ambiance room in the front. OMG. This place...was...unreal. Coming from New York, it's hard to imagine that there are very many restaurants elsewhere that bring something new and imaginative to the table. That all changed the first time I went to California Wine Country. I've never eaten at better restaurants for relatively reasonable prices, paired with amazing wines. El Dorado Kitchen was definitely a favorite on that trip. I started with the beef carpaccio, which was seasoned perfectly with truffle aoili. For my main, I had the salmon; which I didn't imagine to be anything particularly special. I was nonetheless pleasantly surprised by how fresh it was, on top of a bed of perfectly seasoned vegetables. I'm never crazy about dessert, but had the fried blueberry pie and loved it. Portions were generous; not crazy, but definitely more than enough food. I left feeling happy and satisfied. One thing that I particularly loved was the ambiance; I sat outdoors under a fig tree, sun beaming in my face, crisp/cool breeze, with a view of the pool. There were lights hanging from the tree above me. It was literally out of a movie. I heard from one of the sommelier's at a vineyard I visited that the chef at EDK use to work at French Laundry. My meal was probably 1/3 of how much it would have been, had I gone to French Laundry. Phew! read more

Just after we finished wine with St. Francis I was a bit fuzzy in my logic and annoyed myself because of my own inability to make a decision of where we're going for dinner. Under normal conditions I wouldn't frequent a place like this in Sonoma but since we've had visitors from out of town, we decided on El Dorado Kitchen. The dinner overall was nice and tasty but fairly skimpy. I think we just had a pizza (ultra-thin crust), café au lait and nibbled on a piece of blueberry muffin. This cafe is attached to a hotel which has its own restaurant inside and is a high class joint where service, being white glove and high quality reminded me of the Hilton or the Westin St. Francis in the city. Upon walking inside EDK screams upscale urban. I love this fact. Not only is a there a main dining area but several full service lounge areas as well. I get a real sense of space, which is lacking in so many establishments. The food is always good to great. The single malt scotch list is respectable and the mixed drinks whoop batman's ass. The only detraction I have are the small portions, but then again this could be a good thing. In warmer weather the outdoor patio section is a great place to hang out. Highly recommended. read more

Lovely & classy atmosphere, good service, standard food. The menu looked fantastic, but when the food arrived we were very underwhelmed. Hubby had a breakfast burrito which tasted pretty run-of-the-mill. I had the mushroom & Gruyere omelette which really didn't have much flavor: the mushrooms were very good but overwhelmed by the amount of egg, and there was barely any cheese inside (and I don't like things too cheesy) and what little there was was poorly distributed. Three-year-old daughter shared with us and had her own smoothie that was ridiculously priced - $8 for a highball glass size of simple strawberry banana. Located in Sonoma Square it's great for those looking for a variety of other things to do throughout the day, and conveniently inside the El Dorado Hotel. I have been here quite a few times now this past year. My first time was an exceptional experience this summer with the beautiful outdoor patio by the pool. It really was a perfect day out around 6pm. All the other times were equally exceptional. They offer a great selection of wines to choose from by the glass or by the bottle. Certain bottles can be very pricey. The menu changes often offering a great variety of food to excite your palette. As far as service goes, you can call for reservation or make it online and leave a note of specific accommodations needed. You are greeted by numerous staff as you enter into the dining area. The bar is open so if you are waiting for people its great to sit and enjoy a cocktail. There is one specific waitress at the bar who is very sweet and is very knowledgeable about all the drinks especially the specialty freshly mixed ones. I love the pomegranate cocktail. The waitresses are attentive and can extensively answer questions about the French menu. The servers always serve your food and fill your drinks on your right hand side. They are attentive to remove unwanted plates also. The food aspect: My favorite is the duck oh my gosh it was better than steak! I have had the gnocchi although I would recommend that as an appetizer rather than an entree. The salads are fantastic and I loved the warm olives & hummus I shared that with everyone. The risotto with carrot puree was DELISH! Wasn't a fan of the pear tart at all. I prefer the crepes with fruit for desert. The cookie and ice cream desert was also fantastic. Ridiculous!! This restaurant advertised coming here for a Mother's Day brunch yet, they did not have a changing table in either restroom!!!! My husband went to change my 2 year old son and was gone 20 minutes from the table! He had to try and keep him still while he changed him on the bathroom floor. This was time taken away from us trying to enjoy the pre-fixed meal that I made reservations a month in advance in which I told them the ages of my children. Had they bothered to tell me that they couldn't take care of the needs of their customers ON MOTHER'S DAY, I would have cancelled. When I spoke to the manager she simply said she was sorry. They only reason they got 2 stars is because the service was excellent and the food was fine/not great. read more

We have eaten here many times and recently had our wedding of about 50 guests here in April (ceremony in courtyard and rented out restaurant). Rarely can you find such a perfect combination of service, quality, and setting! Below is the letter we wrote to the hotel staff thanking them for a flawless weekend of events. This is by far the best food in Sonoma. "Our guests can't stop raving about our wedding, and we don't blame them! Top to bottom, the evening was perfection. We knew we were in for a treat as soon as we headed back to the hotel from our post-ceremony photo shoot to find our guests ooh-ing and ah-ing over the cocktails and canapés. Those Moscow Mules were a hit! And those appetizers! Such beautiful little bundles of deliciousness! We would have happily filled up on the tuna tartare and wild mushroom arancini were it not for the gorgeous 7-course tasting menu that awaited us. And that pork belly was so good, we were able to convert a diehard vegetarian into a carnivore for a day! And then the dinner. Chef Navarro could not have put together a more beautiful, thoughtful, and delicious tasting menu. Every element was plated, cooked, and timed to perfection. It's hard to tell which course was the crowd favorite. The asparagus soup with those plump, juicy grilled prawns? That gorgeous plate of beef carpaccio? The mouth-watering pork duo? The debate continues... How in the world you pulled it all off with such cool, easy calmness is something we will never understand. A friend later told us she felt like she and her husband sat down for a meal that had been prepared just for them... until she turned around and realized FIFTY other people were enjoying the same meal. My incredibly HOT wife and I have been to EDK dozens of times, but tonight was EPIC. We have always enjoyed the amazing service, foods and drinks, yet tonight was something to post about. Our server was Harry, par excellance, mind you. Professional in a Jason Statham way: efficient, yet human, real and quite humorous. Kenny, our bartender, totally rules. His bartending skills are magnifique, with hints of sass n frass, adding creedance to this restaurant. May I say these two gentlemen made our night beyond expectations! Breakfast on Saturday, right after a quick check-out was just the perfect ending! Great quick and friendly staff. The place is just perfect, right next to the entrance of the hotel and it didn't smell like food (that bugs me when restaurant smells too 'good'). Pricing was GREAT, $12 for a huge plate of white omelette(extra mushrooms but not extra charge), hash was just crunch enough without being burnt, and the big buttermilk biscuit was heaven. Terrific food, in a elegant yet fun atmosphere (i.e. not too stuffy). We ordered a malange of starters including the carpacio, raw oysters, tuna tartare, and the mussels. Not a miss amongst them. I had the special of the night paella which was done perfectly. Many places overcook the rice, which is a cardinal sin when making paella. Theirs was perfectly done where the rice grains still had a nice pop/chew to them. The seafood was immaculate. My wife had the seared salmon, and the way they balanced the crispy skin while maintaining the medium-rare, creamy texture in the fish was perfectly executed. We chose a great rhone blend to accompany the food, which was a great pairing considering the robustness of the flavors. The only thing I that I would have changed for the night is if our waiter could have been a little more out-going. He was an older gentleman, and though professional enough, nothing about him could have been mistaken for enthusiasm. I'd definitely go again. read more

We hosted a dinner in the private dining room the night prior to our wedding. I don't feel like I need to write an extensive review for this place because among all 20 of my guests, we nearly had everything on the menu. There was a lot of sharing going on and each dish was absolutely delicious! If you come here, you must try the bone marrow and the osso bucco which were both outstanding and perfectly executed. Our guests had ice cream sandwiches with the Irish Coffee for dessert. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I think this was better than my actual wedding dinner! read more

The bartenders are great - this is especially important in Sonoma, bc after a day of drinking wine, sometimes you just don't want more wine. That's where Kim & the crew step in. The house cocktails are inspired, fresh and DELICIOUS. And, they are effective. We ate dinner at the bar too. The pomegranate salad was fantastic - the dressing wasn't a now generic tart pom dressing: it had a savory feel and it was loaded with flavor. Awesome. We also had the chevre/mushroom pizza. It was AMAZING. The mushrooms had been marinated or lightly sauteed in something - they were phenomenal. And of course Laura or whatever her name is makes the best chevre. The first time I ate at EDK was amazing, it was only bar fare but that food made me excited to taste the menu of the full restaurant. Later in the week I , along with my husband, brother and his fiancé had dinner there. It was so beautiful and warm. We had some wine in the lounge area and were having a great time, when we realized it was 15 min after our reservation time. No worry, we were fine waiting. We got seated and they apologized for being late, we were ok with it, but they bought us a round of drinks! That started off a great night of food, drinks and fun!! I contacted EDK to host my upcoming rehearsal dinner. I don't live in Sonoma, so I was planning the dinner entirely over the phone and email. I was attracted to the EDK because of the good reviews and location, but I ultimately abandoned any thought of hosting there because of their incredibly poor customer service. While Angie Bettinelli was quick to respond to my initial inquiry and reservation with some literature and price quotes, she could never seem to respond to one of the dozens of phone calls or emails I sent asking for more information. When I was able to reach her over the phone, she would tell me that she could call me back, only to never ultimately call me back. Is this the type of service/organization you would want for a special event? I didn't think so. Needless to say, when I finally withdrew my interest in EDK, citing the disappointing customer service, I never received a response, let alone an apology. The food there may be nice, but EDK can count on me never bringing any business to them and dissuading any of my friends who ever consider them. read more

We enjoyed the vague recollection cocktail and the crab parfait, which was interesting with foam, pomegranate, and apple jelly, a surprising combination. The tuna tartare and beet salad were solid. After these filling appetizers, we shared the pork duo and a side of brussel sprouts, both of which were excellent. Everything was super fresh and seasonal. The only thing we weren't crazy about was the poached pear, which was sitting in a very sticky sweet sauce. We would definitely go here again on a special occasion. read more
