I was very pleasantly surprised to find this place. The tacos are big and delicious... The tortillas are handmade, the salsa is fresh and delicious, and the service was great. I live in San Antonio and I am very critical about how breakfast tacos are made (I won't eat them in Austin). The tacos at this place were legit, authentic, and really delicious and satisfying. Living in Bandera, I go to El Jacilito at least once a week for breakfast. Hosting a family reunion, of course I took them here. They loved it! The food is great with generous helpings, the servers are fun and the prices are low. Try any of the breakfast tacos because they are all good. If you order the "super taco" you better be hungry! Visited while in town for a motorcycle rally and the food was AMAZING! We loved everything and the staff was even better than the food! Will have to stop in if we're ever back in town! Salsa was jalapeño hot but good. Ordered a taco plate...your choice of crispy, soft corn, or flour. Chicken was bland and the tacos were lettuce heavy. Refried beans and rice were tasty. Hole in the wall....felt authentic. My friend had the chicken quesadilla and said it was good. read more

So authentic and down to earth. Maybe not the fanciest presentation or ambiance (for sure), but great prices and generous portions. Had my first ever freshly made tortilla and I was blown away, it was delicious, tasted nothing like any I have ever had in restaurants. Super nice staff, just a real local find. Loved the spicy salsa, guacamole was good but not best I've ever had. Wow they know how to do breakfast tacos here, I ordered two because I'm used to Austin sized bfast tacos and one of these tacos has probably 3 eggs in it. Tasty housemade salsa, and the best housemade corn tortillas I've tasted in a LONG time. Highly recommended! read more

"El Jacs" as the locals know it. I have been a customer for over 20 years. The current location is next to the Bandera radio station so there is always fun happening! The seating is indoors & outdoors. They have kept the place a family owned business and you can tell, the food is always so good! The only reason I gave this restaurant any stars is because of the kitchen staff. The food was so good, my friend and I had the brisket taco special, and when our waitress was taking our order she was rude and obnoxious. It took about 10 minutes for our drinks to come out, and about 5 minutes to get someone's attention to ask for a side of cheese. They charged for every little thing - a tablespoon scoop of cheese was an up-charge. When we asked a different waitress for assistance she helped and then griped about the woman that was supposed to be waiting on us. The only reason to ever come back here is to order carry out tacos. read more

Bandera eateries, as a whole, redeemed by this little joint off Main....authentic, great portions and just damn good. Outstanding food, congenial service...down to earth. El Jacalito is a hidden gem in Bandera. The owner is a super cool lady and she and her staff make you feel right at home. The food is VERY good, unlike nasty Mi Pueblo, around the corner. The breakfast is awesome. However, I'm only giving this place 2 stars because the blond thay works behind the counter is aweful and rude. I tried to call in my order and was placed on hold. After waiting 10 minutes, I decided to drive 5 miles to the restaurant (still on hold). When I got there, the incompetent woman had the phone off the base, on hold, and chatting with co-workers and other patrons. I approached her and asked if she needed to attend to whoever she had on hold. As she picked up the phone, I said it was me on the other line and that she left me waiting for 25 minutes. She never apologized and said she was busy. I have no idea why the owners keep her around. This is a small town and I'm not the only one who complains about her and her sorry attitude. read more

This is one of the best places to eat in Bandera. I enjoy their enchiladas and at least once week my wife and I go in and split and order of Jacalito nacho's. They are great. The only complaint that I have is that there are not enough chairs and tables in the building to support the lunch crowed. read more

This is THE best Tex-Mex food we have had in several years. It is well deserved of the 5 star ratings it gets. The service and friendly was fast in spite of being packed. The four in our party had fajitas, tacos, chalupas and two of the plate dinners. Everything was hot, fresh and soooo good. We have been there well within business hours (between 11:30AM and 1145AM) and were told on three separate visits by the lady behind the register (the same lady each time) that they had closed. The sign was still on that they were open and they had customers seated, but apparently she thought it was too close to Noon (on Sunday!!!!)...yes Noon on Sunday is closing time!!! I know that she is not the owner, but she must have the "authority" to speak for the owner? If I was the owner, I would not allow it. After the 3rd time, we have decided that, small town or not, we have plenty of other fine eating establishments in our area to spend our money. read more

I am only in Bandera once a month for work and I come here to eat every time. It only took one visit and the girls remembered what my order was. We usually love this restaurant and eat there regularly. I love their green salsa and usually get their puffy tacos. Today we were looking forward to the usual. It looked great but the puffy shells were over cooked to the point that you couldn't hardly bite into them. Not really a problem but as the meat kept falling out I kept noticing that the meat was not cooked all the way. There was a lot of pink in it. So I spit it out in the box and asked my husband to take it back to them and get our money back. My husband had enchiladas and his meat was done so he ate his hot meal before dealing with this mess and going out to find me another meal to eat. Upon returning and wanting a refund the owner argued about how there can't be anything wrong with it. My husband said that the meat is pink, just refund my money on it, please. She refunded it and told my husband that she was out $6 and to never ask for a refund again, never caring about the fact that i could end up sick and in the hospital costing me my gas and far more than $6. Sure, no problem, we won't be back and we will steer others from here. read more
