Very good food. Had the breakfast and portions were big and food was good. Friendly waitress. Remember they are only open breakfast and lunch.

These cheese enchiladas look much better than they taste, unfortunately.

My "yardstick" for evaluating Mexican joints is typically beef fajitas, cheese enchiladas, and margaritas. I tried the El Jacalito Special plate, which came with a taco, chalupa, cheese enchiladas, rice, and beans. The taco and chalupa were better than average, with crispy shells, fresh ingredients, and good seasoning. The refried beans were also above average and perfectly seasoned. What I would have hoped would be the star of the show (the cheese enchiladas) were so disappointing that I didn't even finish them. They looked presentable and like a standard Tex-mex enchilada, but were the most blame enchiladas I've ever had, and that's not hyperbole. Tex-mex cheese enchiladas typically either have cheddar or American cheese in them, with the latter being infinitely more flavorful since it was purpose designed to be a melting cheese. These likely had a mild or medium cheddar, which, when melted, was virtually flavorless. Not always a problem to use cheddar, as long as you have a great chili sauce to pick up the slack. This chili sauce was NOT up to par, and seemed like it came from a completely different kitchen. BLAND, like they completely forgot the salt and didn't bother to taste it before serving it. I don't mean LOW salt, I mean ZERO salt. I'm not sure what chilies or powder was used, but it had NO chili taste at all. It was more like a BLAND tomato sauce than an enchiladas sauce. I wouldn't be surprised if this came out of cans. If it does, it needs HELP. If this was a scratch made sauce (which it should be since it isn't hard to whip up a scratch enchilada sauce) then either the recipe needs to be overhauled or the prep cook needs to be retrained. I detest wasting food and will normally eat what I buy as long as it isn't awful, but these enchiladas had to go in the trash. Uninspiring and disappointing effort on those... the staff showed an average amount of courtesy, and the food arrived quickly.. everything other than the enchiladas was great. Really hope I caught them on a bad day, and I might give it one more try next time I'm in town to see if it deserves a rescore.

Chorizo plate was good with yummy homemade tortillas on the side. Potatoes were bland though.

Food was good! Cashier lady was friendly but the waitress that waited on us today 7/22/18 at 10:40am in a pink shirt was super rude. After she brought our food, she was nowhere to be seen. No refills, no asking if we needed anything else, no thank you, no smile. That left a bad taste in my mouth and probably will not be back again.

Barbacoa taco with all the fixings n a carne guisada I'm guessing was way too salty

The offer nothing for dessert. The parking lot is small and to top it all off they are closed on Mondays.

Fantastic breakfast tacos at a great price. Every time I am back in town it will include a visit to the Little Shack.

Place is nice on the inside. Service isn't terrible. But the food is. Some of the worst enchiladas…read moreI've had. Ever. Carne Guisada was okay, a little tough. Hot sauces, all 3 trash. Sweat tea is fine. I'm writing this while still here. In face the waitress might have just seen this review.

Just Meh. Nothing special about this place. It looks a little run down on the outside and a lot…read morerun-down on the inside. Tired decor, chipping paint and an over all dingy look and feel. Maybe this place was a chic place at one time- but that time was in the last century. Nothing special about the menu- it is typical Mexican fare. My wife called out the tortilla chips and salsa as "thumbs down". She's on the money on this one. Salsa was tasty (spicy) but the chips bordered on stale. We were there in the late afternoon (about 4-5) and when we walked in the place was nearly empty. The one server on duty was being constantly harassed by a table full of Hispanic dudes that seemed to thing she was their own private server. Usually it doesn't bother me, in fact I really don't like a server hovering over us. But we and the other customers who came in were treated like second class customers. We saw her once when we came in, once when we ordered, once when she dropped off the drinks and once when we got our food. The rest of the time she was occupied with the seven hombres drinking beer. The dudes kept calling out for her and we had to pry her away from them to get the check and pay. No- we didn't get any refills! The food was warm and pleasantly arranged on the plate but not anything I would write about and say.. .wow... that's great. It was average to below average in taste and portion size. The beans and rice were cold. I hate to judge a place on one experience- but it was a not a place I'll go back to. I kept thinking one of those loud dudes was going to stand up and come over to our table to challenge me, "Okay Gringo, I don't like you, get the f*** out of my restaurant..." Click. They seemed to "own" the place- like it was their hangout. That's what it felt like. Honest.
