Great stop if you are looking for a good meal in the ROW to have some beers or margarita's. It's a casino restaurant so you need to reign in your expectations a bit, and you will be satisfied. I've eaten here a few times, and will say the Burrito is a great and delicious meal, but also a gut buster. On my last visit I went with the Quesabrirria tacos and they were good and came with a red sauce along with the rice and beans. Good sized meal, I was satisfied. The enchiladas my wife ordered were less appetizing, I wouldn't recommend those. I ordered a some type of spicy margarita which I regret, it was too spicy for me along with eating mexican food, so I caution anyone unless they are really into spicy drinks. We came Here early on a Saturday before all the people started arriving for the Santa Pub Crawl. My granddaughter and her friend shared a quesadilla, full of hot melted cheese. I had the 3 tacos with pollo, carne asada and carnitas. They were all so good! The meat seasoned perfectly and generous amounts of meat, onion and cilantro. My daughter and granddaughter shared the Quesabirria tacos. These were filled with plenty of braised beef short ribs, with a side of beans and rice. I decided to stay at the Silver Legacy since my friends were coming from out of town. I would have a staycation for myself while bowling in the Women's National tournament. We would start our day off at Sips, since we were bowlers we got $3 off our drinks! It was a nice gesture. The staff were so friendly and went well beyond for the customers. You need to try the homemade Italian sodas they're delicious along with the chai spiced tea and flavored coffees. We did try a ham sandwich and they were good too! When we arrived the place was not overly busy. There was no wait and we were seated immediately by the hostess. A server was at the table in a reasonable amount of time to take drink orders which were brought quickly and refilled throughout the evening without having to ask. We were asked if we wanted chips and salsa, and thinking that this was like the majority of other restaurants, we said yes. This is where I deduct the star for two reasons. First, there was no explanation that you were actually ordering the chips and salsa trio appetizer which appeared on the bill at the end of the meal. Second, they were not delivered until after we finished the appetizer and shortly before the meal arrived. The Elote Loco appetizer was amazing. If you are not familiar with elote, it is fried corn, and this was excellent. The chips were a mix of three different kinds, and there was a hot and a sweet red salsa with a medium green salsa for the trio. If I had known how close these would arrive to the meal, I would not have "ordered" them. I had the nachos with carne asada, and the portion was huge! I could have easily taken a box with me had I not been traveling. There was a bowling tournament and many teams were dining there. Did not seem to be an issue with getting everyone served. Angelina provided really good service for our table, and it never felt like we were being neglected. Not sure the deal is with SIPS Coffee. This is for El Jefe's Let me start by saying this is Mexican light...not authentic, but that's OK. The place is nicely decorated and very comfortable. The service was excellent from our server. We split a Nachos plate because this thing was huge. We had the El Jefe Nachos Crispy Tortilla Chips, Black Beans, Jalapeños, Olives, "Queso Blanco" Cheese Sauce, Pico de Gallo, Crema & Cilantro Avocado Cream and we added Chorizoto it. It was very tasty! So here is why it is 3 stars...the music they play is absolutely terrible!! it is loud and doesn't fit the Mexican theme food or decor AT ALL! it's like some kind of garbage playlist that really gets on your nerves after a very short time. I ordered a wet burrito for several dollars extra and frankly I have no idea if what I received fit the Nevadian definition of burrito mojado. Also, there were no sides included. For ~$12.99 or so, the trios of small street tacos, however, had large piles of meat on them. Really, not so bad. Shockingly good Mexican good food for a casino in Reno! Chips and salsa is $10.99 which is lame but for $12.99 you can get chips, salsa, and a big bowl of guac. The guac needed a lot of salt but it was actually pretty darn good. I ordered the Carne Asada fajitas which was easily a half pound of flap meat with a charcoal taste. The couple times we have come here there isa bit of a line but its usually not very long of a wait. The hostest and servers are always very friendly and good at making sure we are taken care of. The last time we visited I had a Michelada, Guacamole and a Birria Plate. When it comes to micheladas this one is definitely not the best I have had but it was good with a good ratio of beer to the michelada mix/ingredients. Ive been on a bit of a guacamole kick lately so had to try theirs; it definitely did not disappoint and the chips were deliciously crunchy and salty as well. Finally, the birria plate was very flavorful and jam packed with food so definitely got my fill. This is our go-to for dinner whenever we are attending a concert at Silver Legacy. There's never a long wait and the staff is super friendly. The restaurant is pretty and it always looks very clean. I like the fact that the kitchen is kinda open and you can see whats happening behind the stoves. Our waiter Jose was very attentive and he brought our appetizer fairly quick. The pork belly tacos were good. The chicken fajitas were overpowered by the bell peppers and onions. There were only a few pieces of chicken. It was good for a casino restaurant. There's always improvements. This review more of a 3 1/2 stars. I was shocked to learn they automatically charge TIP to their TOGO orders. My order should have cost about $60. But with their automatic tipping system, I had to pay an extra $8. I wasn't sure the percentage of the tip because I didn't get my copy of the receipt. I figured it would be taped to my order. Nope, it wasn't there. I normally tip my TOGO orders. There should be a one-time Tip/service fee for their to-gos. Maybe $5 at the most. The cooks pack the food and the hostess only has to put it into a bag and drop it off to its customers. CUSTOMERS BEWARE of their tipping system for TOGO ORDERS! Came here twice. One night had a burrito and the next night tacos. I would say this place does better with their burritos than the tacos I had. But their beans and rice are pretty good and that's important for me as a customer. I think the chips can be much better for a Mexican restaurant but the salsa options were good. Service was quick and friendly with good recommendations. I think the inside could use a bit of a face lift but it's not bad. They do have different color seating but not sure why. I visited El Jefe's on a Sunday evening. I sat at a video poker free seat at the front bar alone. I sat there for over five minutes while three staff members, including a manager, buzzed around the bar helping customers and counting inventory. I got up, went to the back bar where the staff were gathered, and told them I was sitting there. The manager brought me water and a few minutes later one of the bartenders came over to take my order. He was very friendly! I asked for a mezcal margarita. Instead, he made me the signature Cadillac Margarita with a mezcal floater. I'm not a Cadillac fan, but, the acid and savory nature of the mezcal cut through the sweetness of the OJ. It was so good - I ordered a second! I ordered the quesabirria (the bartender said it was great and I love it!), however, the kitchen was out (it's a rather special dish, so I wasn't surprised). I asked his other favorite dish and he recommended the Shrimp Diablo Tacos. And yes - he was very genuine in his suggestion. It was a hearty portion with refried beans, fresh salsa, rice, and two tacos. I requested chips and salsa twice from the bartender but did not receive them. I love crunch with my Mexican food, and I'm happy to pay extra for chips and salsa. I noticed that folks in the dining room around me were getting complimentary chips. However, I noticed people by themselves weren't. Since I did not receive them from the bartender, I asked the runner who brought my food. He had to go out of his way to ask the manager if he could give me chips and salsa. She said yes. As a woman who travels around the world alone, nothing annoys me more than being ignored, "missed," or denied the same thing as couples or larger groups. Just give me a smaller portion, fine by me. Regardless, my tacos were delicious and the chips and salsa were, too. Overall, I'd visit El Jefe's again. Our absolute FAVORITE place to eat, grab a drink or enjoy some night life while we're in Reno. Conveniently located inside THE ROW, it's a fun and family friendly atmosphere during daytime hours. The kids always join us for lunch or an early dinner. But then later it turns into a club with lights low and music and dancing. This place has some of our favorite yummiest drinks that we enjoy when we're in town. We were super sad they were temporarily closed due to Covid-19 the last time we were there.
