When we arrived the place was not overly busy. There was no wait and we were seated immediately by the hostess. A server was at the table in a reasonable amount of time to take drink orders which were brought quickly and refilled throughout the evening without having to ask. We were asked if we wanted chips and salsa, and thinking that this was like the majority of other restaurants, we said yes. This is where I deduct the star for two reasons. First, there was no explanation that you were actually ordering the chips and salsa trio appetizer which appeared on the bill at the end of the meal. Second, they were not delivered until after we finished the appetizer and shortly before the meal arrived. The Elote Loco appetizer was amazing. If you are not familiar with elote, it is fried corn, and this was excellent. The chips were a mix of three different kinds, and there was a hot and a sweet red salsa with a medium green salsa for the trio. If I had known how close these would arrive to the meal, I would not have "ordered" them. I had the nachos with carne asada, and the portion was huge! I could have easily taken a box with me had I not been traveling. There was a bowling tournament and many teams were dining there. Did not seem to be an issue with getting everyone served. Angelina provided really good service for our table, and it never felt like we were being neglected. I'd eat here again, but I'd either have chips and salsa or another appetizer but not both.

Not bad for a casino joint. Pleasantly surprised. Had to have my calamari redone because the were overcooked, but won't hold it against them. They got it perfect second time. Little short on words as I'm a bit inebriated. Jose had made for me an awesome Raspberry Margarita Shout out to Jose

I don't know if Mexican food is served different I'm Nevada.. the birria was good.. the burrito tasted cheap. we also ordered enchilads which were dry and served not hot... customer service was good and the drinks were good. I think the food I's adequate for the location.. the burrito texture was similar to one you works buy at a convince store

Shockingly good Mexican good food for a casino in Reno! Chips and salsa is $10.99 which is lame but for $12.99 you can get chips, salsa, and a big bowl of guac. The guac needed a lot of salt but it was actually pretty darn good. I ordered the Carne Asada fajitas which was easily a half pound of flap meat with a charcoal taste. It wasn't the tenderest of meats but great in a corn tortilla with onions, peppers and some guac. All in all if i was in Reno at the janky circus circus again I would hit El Jefe for sure.

Portions are huge and food is great! I got the carnitas salad with a side of guacamole and the salad was delicious. I loved how the carnitas was not salty and the salad was super filling given it was just a salad. I recommend just getting the entrees as the appetizers were just mediocre. The wings were dry and the calamari has barely any meat and was all dough. The only drawback is that service is super slow. I've never been to a place where I had to wait so long just to get the menu, get the food, or order drinks. Even bringing a basket of chips and salsa took forever.

Whenever we go to a show or concert at the Silver Legacy we like to stop by Jefe's Cantina for food and drinks. The couple times we have come here there isa bit of a line but its usually not very long of a wait. The hostest and servers are always very friendly and good at making sure we are taken care of. The last time we visited I had a Michelada, Guacamole and a Birria Plate. When it comes to micheladas this one is definitely not the best I have had but it was good with a good ratio of beer to the michelada mix/ingredients. Ive been on a bit of a guacamole kick lately so had to try theirs; it definitely did not disappoint and the chips were deliciously crunchy and salty as well. Finally, the birria plate was very flavorful and jam packed with food so definitely got my fill. I would of liked for the birria to be a little more tender however overall is was tasty, filling and satisfying meal.

This is our go-to for dinner whenever we are attending a concert at Silver Legacy. There's never a long wait and the staff is super friendly. The restaurant is pretty and it always looks very clean. I like the fact that the kitchen is kinda open and you can see whats happening behind the stoves. Our waiter Jose was very attentive and he brought our appetizer fairly quick. We had the guacamole which was seasoned to perfection, the chips were crispy and the salsas were pretty decent. The quesabirria tacos are my favorite. The meat was soft and well seasoned. The tacos are always super loaded with meat and the right amount of cheese.

I have to be honest, this was in the bottom tier of Mexican food in Reno. It's easily accessible if you are staying in the casino, but other than that, I wouldn't go back. The price was not worth it and the service was to be expected for a restaurant that turns into a club at night.

Convenient place to go in Silver Legacy for late night food (places open after 9pm). We picked going here between cafe central and brew brothers. Glad we picked it! What we got: carnitas enchiladas, Birria plate, spicy mango martini, spicy pineapple margarita, salsa trio app (bill came out to be ~$80) - would get the enchiladas again (be warned: very cheeeeeeezy, but I loved it) and the Birria plate - would get the spicy mango martini over the spicy pineapple marg (but think it is fruit preference); boyfriend thought both were good. Drinks seemed to be on the sweeter side - salsa originally only came out with 2/3 salsas and we had to ask what happened; waitress said they had run out of the 3rd when they prepped the food (but didn't let us know until asked?) then she went and checked on it & brought out an additional two Our server was really sweet/seemed down to earth. Place got busier after 9pm

Good service and decent food. The carnitas were flavorful and filling. The cheese quesadilla were good and plentiful.

Great place to watch football and have a bite to eat. I have the taco salad. Nice portion. My family split the nachos, and my husband had the carne asada. I also enjoyed the pina colada. I loved the toasted coconut on the rim.

I was glad that I did finally drop in. Located in a little strip mall on Valley Road, it's an unassuming place from the outside. The inside is small, but comfortable and it felt very "homey". When I walked in, the first thing that hit me was the smell of delicious food wafting through the air. The tastes did not disappoint. We were greeted and sat promptly by a personable young man that brought us water. The owner then brought us our drinks...a margarita for my dining companion and a Mandarin Jarritos for me. My sip of the margarita tasted amazing! Great balance and flavor. We also received a basket of chips and salsa. You could tell that they were made fresh to order. The chips were crispy and hot. The salsa was outstanding...fresh cilantro...balanced combination of flavors with a nice, subtle kick of spiciness at the back end. Not too spicy...just right. I usually have to ask for something hotter...not in this case. The food was amazing! My dining companion ordered the Chile Relleno plate and I got the Molcajete. The prices are outstanding and the amount of food? Huge plates! My Molcajete was sizzling hot and overflowing with chicken, beef, shrimp, nopales and ground beef mixed with veggies. A large plate of refried beans and spanish rice also accompanied this presentation. Fresh, hot, delicious corn tortillas rounded out each of our orders. We were also given a couple of squeeze bottles of sauces...green and red...to add to our meals if we wanted. Freshly made and the bottles were presented in a plastic tub filled with ice to keep them cold. Great addition to the already amazing food! There's also a nice selection of Mexican hot sauces on the table for you to choose from. We both took to-go boxes...so much food! Mine lasted for 2 more meals! I plan to return on a regular basis...this is now one of my favorite local places for great Mexican food. As always, I suggest that you visit to see what YOU think...
