    Chipotle Mango Tacos with Shrimp

I have visited other El Maguey's. However, this was my first time at this location. Extensive menu. Our service was friendly and very accommodating . Complimentary chips and salsa were great. I tried the Chipotle Mango Tacos with Shrimp. The Chipotle Mango sauce was so delicious. Smokey and sweet with chunks of mango. Loved it. Three tacos comes with rice and beans. You can order as chicken tacos. May be my new favorite!

Smaller location but it does a steady dine in and carry out business. They have lunch specials, kid friendly and great margaritas. Chips were warm and fresh with a very mild salsa. the chicken selections were great with the chicken being well seasoned and smothered with cheese and plenty of toppings.

One of my favorite local places to visit, always a good time. I've been frequenting this location since they were in another building and we have never been disappointed. The place is always well lit and clean, the seats are pretty comfortable. My go to is always the Potato De Luxe which is very, very good or the Fajita Mix nachos. Both are pictured. The fish tacos are awesome as well and the margaritas that got drank before they got pictured lol. They have a nice variety of Margarita flavors and non Mexican options on the kids menu which is also great! Service is always fast. I've never had to wait more than 5 mins for someone to come over even when they are packed. Love it here!

This place is a decent Mexican cuisine that has flavor. The service was ok. The place seems to stay packed a lot. On the night I went there was a band and the margaritas I'll will say we're great!!!

It's been so long since I've been here that I forgot how good it is. I normally don't opt for frozen Margaritas, but I did today and it was wonderful. It was not on the weak side, just right. For the meal, beef Quesadilla, which I admit was just ok. Next time I'll get chicken because the beef was almost cut/diced/chopped too fine for me. Beans as usual were good and the queso was awesome.

Great service. Waited only 10 mins and got right in and the drinks are so good and they pour heavy lol and the food is always super authentic! I love coming here for a quick drink and bit!

One of our go to spots for weekend work lunch location. They are usually not that busy around 11 on a Saturday. They always offer a fast, friendly service which is a big deal to me! I usually go with their enchilada with chicken and I love it. It's flavorful and delicious. They also make their food quite fast so whenever I am starving, I usually will pick this place over others because I know I'll get my food quick. Aside from weekend work lunch, my colleagues and I have also been here for a happy hour. They don't really have any specials as far as happy hour goes but their drinks were affordable enough. It was fairly busy in the afternoon with some families out dining as well as people out for some drinks after work. We went on a Friday night so I'm guessing that was also a factor. Overall, this place is pretty nice and the service is fast which is important especially if you have to go back to work or have an appointment you need to keep.

Best food and service of all the El Maquey's. But the place is somewhat small so get there early. Really packs um in starting at 5.00PM.

The food is always quick and really hot. With the happy hour prices we literally spend half the price we spend anywhere else.

My parents eat there on the reg, though not so much the past couple of years, after they implemented their controversial policy of shrinking portion sizes and increasing prices at the same time. Uh, whose idea was that? I have an idea. Let's just say he's not very good at riding a bicycle. I've eaten there literally a million times since it opened up 10 or 15 years ago. Before that, we used to eat at the place in Olivette that was once a Ponderosa, El Paisano or whatever. I don't think they're related, but when that place closed, a handful of employees came over to Carreta's. That was years ago, and they're now long gone. Hopefully, they weren't shipped off to El Salvador. I hear it's not safe there. More recently, we've been eating at a place a bit further west on Olive that was once a Houlihan's. Noticing a trend? Carreta's must be feeling the effects, because they've remodeled and added a few new menu items, some of which will be familiar to Barrel House patrons. The remodel seems to mostly have been a matter of applying a fresh coat of paint and turning the dim switch up to its absolute brightest. It used to be dark in there, like at a fancy restaurant. Now it's like Kmart circa 1986. I didn't check to see if a blue light had been installed in the ceiling, nor did I make it back to near the restrooms to see if they've still got that influencer wall. The menu has been reprinted, and I'm sure they took advantage of the opportunity to jack up prices even further. Many of the old favorites remain, and I'm not sure what, if anything, they removed to make room for the small handful of new items. I saw that they still have the carnitas, my old go-to. It's the only pork item on the menu. If you're familiar with the area, you can probably do the math on that one. Most importantly, they've added Birria, only about 10 years after it became trendy. What's next, a smashburger? A pumpkin spice latte? I've had Birria at a number of places, here in the STL and elsewhere, and in a few different preparations, and it's never not been good. It kinda is the Mexican food equivalent of the smashburger, in that regard. An order of three will run you $16, and it doesn't come with anything other than the consommé and a ramekin of tomatillo salsa. Just the three tacos wasn't the most filling meal I've ever had, but it wasn't half bad, for there not being any sides or anything. They stuff those tacos full with mostly just meat (along with cheese, onions and cilantro), and I'd imagine it's roughly as caloric as eating half the produce aisle at the grocery store. It's so good. I figured it would be kinda mediocre but nevertheless enjoyable, because I thought I had this place pegged, but credit where credit is due. They've exceeded expectations. This was one of the best things I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. If they don't let the quality slip or try to charge literally $1,000 for it, I could honestly see it becoming a huge hit. What do you know? This place might manage to stay in business just yet, despite the newer, fancier place down the street.

I ordered Carne Asada French Fries & was disappointed. They sound & look better than they actually are. It was basically a container of Fries with Cheese & other toppings & then a pile of fat & grisle(Not what I was expecting at all!). It actually turned me off from ever ordering again. It's a awesome place to visit & just get lost in the atmosphere..I had some questions about the Buffet, because it didn't look like it was kept up as far as wiping down the area thoroughly & making sure that items were replenished. If you have specific spices for teas like I do, check out the wall of bag spices AND the selection of plastic containers (in another aisle). I feel bad for writing this because such a large store and the amount of work the employees spend on keeping it organized was impressive. Asking them to reorganize maybe the most "gringo" thing I could do, but I had to ask a customer and her daughter? tried to find the specific spice...they had to ask a worker that took me to the plastic container aisle. BUT- the major thing is that El Morelia offered the spice. Plus others that I wanted try! My other mistake was not visiting during the week and eating at the in store restaurant. On Saturday my bill was almost restaurant prices from a few years ago. During the week prices are more reasonable. The toppings bar completely changes the taste combination and value. Definitely "as-good-as-it-gets"! The employees were restocking bread container with fresh loaves with a sign stating "3 loaves for $2"... I grabbed 3 and just ate one- phenomenal! Not sure if it is sourdough, but it is definitely fresh and delicious! Mexican sodas variety would make Sam's Club jealous. Far more grocery selection than I ever imagined. The store is an old warehouse, but it is clean and well-stocked.
