Really enjoyed our experience here! The food was fresh and flavorful, and everything we ordered came out tasting great. The drinks were definitely strong and well-made, which we really appreciated. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. The atmosphere was one of my favorite parts it had a warm, cozy Spanish vibe that made the whole experience feel relaxed and inviting. It's hard to believe that it's been 8 years since my last review. I have frequented El Mariachi several times over the years and each time, the food and service improves. So much so, it's time for an updated review. I called ahead but it didn't really matter since seating was swift the night we went. I will say that the biggest downside is the small entry...when people are waiting, they often forget there's other people in the world other than themselves. We were quickly seated and the chips, salsa and bean dip with mushrooms and onions were delivered moments after. The salsa was nice, though needed salt...and the chips were on the older side. Bean dip was warm and tasted great with the mushrooms and onions mixed in. The server was very considerate while my friend and I eyed the large menu discussing all the options our stomachs were interested in. I settled on the burrito de chile verde and my friend had the carne asada taco plate. Food came roughly 15 minutes later, piping hot and with generous portions. I'm well aware this is authentic "Americanized" Mexican food, so I'm reviewing from that perspective. In this context, the food was very well prepared and tasted fresh. The pork in my burrito was tender, heavily sauced and cheesy-melty, wrapped in a fresh tortilla, topped with a lightly flavored chili verde sauce. Beans tasted homemade, though they could use a little more salt or garlic. Rice was a little dry but still edible, especially mixed with the beans, sauce and burrito. Would have loved some more sour cream or guacamole, but overall the meal was very filling and satisfying. read more

Great dinner: We had "Silvia" as our server tonight and she was fantastic! I mentioned the plastic glasses used with their Cadillac Margaritas during our last visit and she produced an solid heavy glass worthy of a top shelf drink. This one was prepared as expected and not from a mix. The dinner was as usual, outstanding Mexican food and plenty of fresh chips, great Salsa and beans. We went and wish we didn't. I left a $4 tip out of respect. I myself had a simple 3 taco combo plate. The tortillas were swimming in oil/grease. I had to ask for separate tortillas just to be able to somehow eat the slop i was served. The waitress saw what was on my plate and apologized. Wow this is a great Mexican restaurant. Very clean and great service. Food fantastic. I had the steak fajitas on sizzling platter with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and great meat. We're new to the area and we're in search of good quality Mexican food. Yelp lead me to this great place. We've been at least once a week since discovering it. The food is excellent, service is prompt and friendly. The interior is warm with nostalgic Mexican vibes. It's been pretty busy each time we've been, so it's definitely a popular place, which is always a good sign. The enchiladas (shredded beef and chicken-both excellent), chile colorado, chimichangas, fajitas, tostadas, fried ice cream and flan are all excellent. Even with this place being busy today, service was wonderful and we didn't have to wait long to get our food. Inside is decorated nicely and it's clean, great family atmosphere. The women's bathroom was also clean. We're originally from California so we know great Mexican food. Food wise, all our food was a solid 3.5/5 Stars which was better than we were expecting because we keep hearing that there isn't any decent Mexican food in the Boise area. We had Steak Fajitas and they scratched our Fajita itch, they gave us a great portion of meat, and the cost was fair! We'll come back! read more

Ambience is fun, didn't know this was a Mexican restaurant, the sign isn't noticeable coming east or west on State St. Service was great, food was hot and delicious. Will definitely come back. The starter salsa was spicy which we like and the bean dip was amazing. I've never had the mushroom garnish before. Got the flautas for the kids, the tortillas are cooked perfectly and it was buttery and delicious. Also the Machaca con huevos was so good and will make great leftovers as I ate too much bean dip as always. read more

From Arizona and well traveled in Mexico and we know good Mexican food. So pleased with these folks. Every time we go it's consistently wonderful! Ramon and Maria are amazing and Jessie always takes care of us. I even left my credit card on accident and Jessie made sure it was safe - until my return without any issue. Love that we found a favorite for our family. It's our go-to for large family gatherings and dinner any night of the week! Try the Camerones Monterey, the Mucho Nachos, the Fajitas.... This is our go to Mexican food place hands down. Been many years no issues. Visited March 21 with the family and we all got food poisoning. In fact I got it so bad I was in the ER with colitis from the food poisoning. Such a shame and unfortunately the management needs to promote hand washing of their employees and also not allow them to work if they themselves are ill. I love this restaurant but the level of illness this visit caused is not worth another trip. read more

Love this place. The whole staff is welcoming and attentive. We have never had a bad experience here. From the drinks to the food, everything is tasty. Favorite dish would have to be Tampequenia De Jaliscience (hope I spelled that right) Piece of flank steak with bacon wrapped shrimp inside. Good side of beans and rice as well. The green habanero salsa is fire. Good addition with the chips and salsa when starting your meal. Jesse runs a great restaurant and very friendly. Having dinner with the family and the food came out fast and hot but I was a little bit disappointed with my meal because the tortillas were super greasy and dripping in grease and they were store bought and not home made, the asada meat was seasoned with the same seasoning as my wife's chicken fajitas and it was a little bland. The beans were so mashed up that you could drink them with a straw, the rice was lacking tomatoes, onion & garlic flavor but overall I'll give them a 7 out of 10 for being this far from the border read more

I ordered the Burrito Loco here. I ordered to go here. The service was quick and friendly. It was ready when I got there. The portions are huge, easily feed 2. All good things. The food though was just not good. The shredded chicken was super dry. Good thing it was a wet burrito but even then, the dryness still came through. It had to be chicken breast that was shredded as there was no flavor to it, even with the sauce. I'll go back and try something else since there is quite a bit of value here which I appreciate. The other bonus is that it came with chips and salsa! I was so excited for this but then I bit into the first few chips, it was chewy*sigh* so disappointed! The bottom of bag of chips ended up being better though and the salsa was good! The plus side to this is that they are made fresh. Another plus is it's open on Sunday evening! read more

My wife and I just moved from Orange County, CA, to Star. Being lifelong Californians, we love Mexican food, and are used to good, authentic dishes. When we saw El Mariachi Loco, so close to our new home, we had to try it. Located on the 44 highway, outside and inside, it reminds you of Mexico. Our server was from Michoachan, Mexico. My wife was born in Mexico City, though raised in the U.S., so she knows Mexican cuisine. She ordered the mole with chicken, and I ordered the mixed seafood enchiladas with rice and beans. My dish was delicious. My wife liked the mole, but of course her mother made better. Still, this place is a diamond in the rough for us, a good Mexican restaurant a few miles down the road from our new home. Yahoo!!! We'll most certainly be back. read more
