We stopped in for a lunch date. The service was quick and the food was ok. I ordered the nachos and I really enjoyed them. The only problem was all of the chicken was on one chips in a pile. My wife got the enchilada platter and the sauces were really good. There just wasn't enough of the sauce for the enchiladas making them really dry and bland. I ordered the chicken fajita burrito. It was almost entirely filled with rice and beans. There was almost no chicken in it. I seriously just paid 17$ for a rice and bean burrito with two or three pepper strips and a tiny strip of chicken. Like pencil strip of chicken. The food wasn't bad but I don't want to come back either. The restaurant has a complete Christmas makeover and it looks very festive. read more

The food was fantastic, and they have a pretty broad selection all the way from typical American to fairly authentic Mexican if you were adventurous. And everything in between. They have a fantastic bar, with some really interesting counts, as well as the more traditional margaritas, etc. The bar area is really nice, and has a nice onion, but the whole restaurant has a nice feel to it. I want to understand their gratuity. My dad came from out of town, and I was super excited to take him here. Food is phenomenal. We get our checks with 18% gratuity automatically added to the bill total but then the option to leave another tip when you sign your check. Are they not using gratuity to tip our table waitress? I don't like the idea of the waitress or myself getting taken advantage of. She was phenomenal and we enjoyed our food. That gratuity should be hers alone. read more

I went in for the lunch taco bar. When greeted at the door I was asked if I was there for the taco bar or the regular menu. It was my first time there and there was no price for the taco bar so I wasn't 100% sure that's what I wanted. Anyway we got that sorted out, I opted for the taco bar, so now I was able to be seated. It was $15.99 if I'm remembering right, maybe it was $16.99. It includes a soda. The taco bar was not quite what I was expecting. The way it works is you walk up to the bar and a person will ask how many tacos you want and they put that many 3" corn tortillas on a plate. Then you move to the meats. They had 9 different meats, not labeled. A person there will ask which meats you want and then put that onto your tortillas. They then ask if you want rice and beans and give you that if you want before handing you your plate so that you can put the toppings on. They had onion, cilantro, cheese, crema, creamy green salsa, spicy red salsa, roasted jalapenos and a thing or two that I'm not remembering. I got an asada, pastor and chicken in spicy sauce for my first round. For my second I got chicken in a creamy spicy sauce, pork verde, and carnitas. Everything was fine. Nothing really stood out as being special. The limited salsa options was a bit of a disappointment. Many of the meats were in a sauce and it made the tacos a bit fall apart prone. read more

My experience could've have been better. I called for an order ahead of time. I paid for it over the phone as it was an order of over $100. I called 4 hours ahead of time. I arrived 15 minutes past the time I mentioned I needed the order, and to my surprise my order was NOT ready. I still had to wait more than 10 minutes to get my order. The restaurant was not busy at the time to say that was the reason my order was not ready. Not any of the employees expressed any sorry for the wait. We went with neighbors on a double date and drove from Utah County. My go-to meal to gauge a new Mexican restaurant is chilies rellenos. I'll say that my first two bites were really good, but it quickly became evident that these were not made fresh but were made earlier and frozen. The rest of the bites were not icy but were cold enough that it couldn't possibly be from my meal sitting and cooling after being made. I was thoroughly disappointed. The rice, beans, salad, horchata, and my wife's meal were all great. That's the only reason that I'm giving them 2 stars. Try as I might, I can't think of a good excuse to serve ice-cold food that should be hot. read more

From The moment I walked in I was greeted with friendly faces and warm smiles. The food is the best I've had in SLC and I would definitely recommend this place to all of my friends and colleagues. The ambiance was nice as well. There was live music on the night I was there and it made me remember my trip to Mexico. I had the Molcajete Ranchero and it's enough food to feed at least three people. Needless to say I'll be taking most of it with me. Luckily for me I found a new place to live. I've been wanting to try this place for YEARS but the slightly sketch location off i80 kept me at bay. This WVC Mexican locale ALWAYS looks be hopping on the weekends during its live music sets! I'll definitely have to come back for that since I visited on a Thursday evening and it was actually pretty quiet and low key. Sat at the bar and service was kind and authentic. Went a little left field from my traditional Mexican food go to order and went for an adventurous ceviche platter, which was very good, though acidic and spicy, and I'd recommend cutting it with some traditional options (enchiladas, rice, beans, etc.). My cilantro marg was unique and delightful, and felt oh so appropo to the vibe. Will definitely be back to experience the musica and try more of the classic Mexican entrees in the futuro! read more

I will say I was very impressed for Salt Lake City's best rated mexican food. They do have 2 locations so make sure you come to the West Valley City location. It was like mini Tijuana coming into this fabulous restaurant. A lot of people and very busy. The music was jamming and the energy was high! We got the best waitress Viviana and she was so nice and friendly. We ordered the deluxe mango micheladas with fresh boiled shrimp cocktail steaming. What a delightful, crafted red beer it was. My co-worker ordered the molcajete which I originally came here to try but saw the pineapple and knew I wanted that instead. The PIÑA DE MARISCOS is a roasted half pineapple stuffed with seafood mix and Monterey jack cheese, served with fries and white rice. I didn't feel like seafood so Viviana the waitress had them customize it with tender beef and chicken for the same price. I'm so bougie but it worked out. The food is delicious. It's in an industrial area and the parking lot was packed. We were here on an early Sunday evening and got seated right away. We loved the chips and salsa but indulged a bit too much while waiting for our order. While the food was fantastic, the service was a bit slow. We also ordered an appetizer of wings, we chose the "sweet" which was honey BBQ wings, they come w fries! It was overall a great lunch! I asked about their all you can eat tacos since I found no details on it online. If I remember correctly, it goes M-F 11am-2 pm, costs $17.50 for adults and half price for the kids. This restaurant was so much fun! They were incredibly accommodating for our party of over 20, and split us into 5 tables for social distancing. The staff wore gloves and masks, and they were incredibly nice and attentive. The chips and salsa were delicious appetizers, and were free of charge. My table enjoyed lime Margaritas and Pina Coladas while waiting, which we all enjoyed. The drinks are not weak and whatever mixer they use is just the right amount of salty and sweet. The molcajete supreme was HUGE. My coworker and I were stuffed after our meal and it looked like we had hardly made a dent in the bowl. Okay, so this is totally random and not entirely food-related, but I had to post about this. First, yes, I do really like El Paisa. They have a lunch buffet with all you can eat tacos that is just really good. Even if you don't like Mexican food, you'll like their tacos, even their rice and beans are really good, and I *never* eat rice and beans, unless I'm getting it here. That's not why I wanted to post this, though. Rather, I wanted to give a shout out to Raoul and Gina; the manager and (I think) one of their supervisors, who just helped me out of a rather uncomfortable spot. On my way home from work today, my car ended up breaking down. I work just around the corner, so I pulled into the parking lot in front of El Paisa, and found that I had a complete dry dipstick. No prior warnings, either (dealership thinks it might be a stuck valve or something, and I'm inclined to agree, since I just got it back from them last Thursday). Anyway, the manager, Raoul, happened to see me as he was walking through the parking lot and checked to see if I was okay (I told him I was), then when I went into the restaurant to grab a late lunch while I waited for a friend to show up, he asked me what was wrong. When I mentioned that I had an oil leak and that my friend from work would be stopping by to give me a ride to Maverik to get some oil, he offered to go get it for me, since he was just about to go run an errand anyway. A few minutes later, he brings one of the supervisors (Gina) over and mentioned that he got pulled into something and couldn't leave right away, but that she was free and would be happy to help me. Since my friend was stuck in a meeting for the next hour, I accepted, and she actually drove me to Maverik, specifically so I could get the oil. Who in the world does that these days? I mean, I knew their food was awesome, but this wasn't exactly "service," but more like, "really amazing and awesome people helping a random guy out." Anyway, I thought I ought to mention that. Also, the ribeye is particularly good as well, if you don't catch the buffet. read more

They never came to check if we needed any more drinks nothing. Was excited to try the food. The one good thing is my margarita was good but I wanted another never got asked in the hour we waited. Went for their taco lunch buffet and was definitely satisfied. Got here early but at certain times during our meal there was a rush and a line that formed but folks got through quick. Parking can be a struggle if you catch it during peak lunch time. This review is just for the taco lunch buffet since that's all I've ever come here for but based on the types of meats offered, I think like 6-8 kinds and having tried them all it's safe to say their other menu items are likely delicious as well. After they serve you your meat selection on corn tortillas, you make your way down to the toppings station. Satisfying my weekday taco craving every time! We had a large group (30+) so we were seated in the back patio. It took a long time fir our group to trickle in and then once we got our order taken in took me an hour in a half to get my food. Everyone at my table got their food and ate it before I got mine. It was to the point that I wasn't even hungry by the time I got it. I understand things can get crazy and backed up with a large group like that but I think the service taking that long is ridiculous. We were at the restaurant for 4 hours. Took about an hour for people to get there (our fault) about an hour for them to take our order after everyone got there, then an hour in a half for me to get my food and about 30 minutes for me to eat a few bites and leave. The taco platter was filled with lots of meat which I like but there was no sauce or pico which I found weird. Everybody else that I was with loved their food so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing or needed to ask for more toppings. Definitely wasn't the worst thing i had ever eaten. Pretty much the whole table ordered Molcajete and I tried a few bites, SO GOOD! I'lol order it next time I go for sure. read more

Though the reviews on El Paisa seem to be all over the place, when I walked in and saw the restaurant was PACKED I knew it was going to be a safe bet. For lunch, they offer a taco buffet as well as menu-order items. On this day, the taco buffet appeared to be the clear favorite of the lunch hour patrons, but because this was my first trip to El Paisa, I let my lunch companion order, and he knocked it out of the park--we shared the Molcajete Supreme (a combination of beef, chicken and shrimp simmered in green sauce, served with nopalitos, Mexican onions and jalapeño peppers), which also came with tortillas, rice and beans. First off, there was SO MUCH food! I am not known for walking away from the table without cleaning my plate, but after eating several plates of food, I had to waive the white flag and beg for a to go container (which was honestly packed with enough food for yet another two meals). The beef and chicken were both super moist and tender, and the entire creative concoction was flavored to perfection. I would absolutely, without question, go back and order the Molcajete again ... and the sooner the better. Also, the complimentary chips were warm and fresh, and the salsa was excellent (not too hot, with plenty of flavor). Do not believe the naysayers, and give El Paisa a try for yourself. This little gem has commanded a spot in my top-five Utah Mexican restaurants. I'll be back! read more
