I came here on Veteran's day. The place was packed! I got the breakfast special which was Huevos Rancheros! It was very tasty. My daughter got the chocolate chip pancake and a hot chocolate. I've been going to this newer smaller location since it opened near me. Typically pretty good food and service. Servers are usually pretty friendly. You can substitute a side for Calabacitas (squash) which I usually do. They have a Senior section on the menu for smaller portions and a little less expensive. But my last visit there I noticed an extra charge on my bill called a; "Market Surcharge 3%" added? This was not a tax. I asked but didn't get a good answer - the server was planning to change jobs bc she was unhappy there. I paid the bill anyway and thought I'd pass this on to others. I'm Not sure why the ratings are so low. Every time I've been here for a meal, I've been quite satisfied. I typically order the enchiladas or the carne Adovado. Always good. I've been here a few times. Yes, I've read the reviews, but when we went the food and service was good. This last time, the previous reviews caught up with us. Sad to say, both were disappointing. It was not too busy when we got there, but you could see it was before. There were patrons there obviously for Happy Hour that had finished because they were too noisy and "cheerful". Our server didn't spend alot of time with us, so we ordered and waited. Our soft drinks came out after a wait so we just passed the time conversing and watching the HH folks. When the came, I was really perplexed. I had an enchilada plate, green and red, with beans and rice. The rice was, strange. It was soupy/watery. I decided to eat the beans and yuck! They were sour. Before I could ask, my hubs mentioned the sourness in his also. He ordered red enchiladas with rice and beans. Now, he's not a fan of beans, but he told me he just couldn't bear to try the floating rice. I asked for black beans due to the sour Pinto beans. Those lacked flavor. Not even salt could help. My enchiladas came plain with the red and green sauces on the side. Sure, it's a different way than I'm used to but I poured some green sauce over one first and bit into it. Not a nice mouthful. My first visit I always go for the combination plate. I got the 3 combo tamale, taco and enchilada. Tamale was big but very dry on the inside the chile on top was not enough. I added chicken to the enchilada it was only 0.50c but I wish it also had more flavor the green chile was very mild. I got Christmas (red and green) and I definitely like the red more but again was also mild. I plan to get the serrano sauce next time or order more red to add to my plate. I also switched the rice for the papitas for 0.50c it was worth every penny. The beef taco was my favorite and I added some salsa which made it very juicy. We also got small fresh sopaillas which were very soft and melted in your mouth. I would definitely visit again maybe try the breakfast specials or get the taco plates. Our waitress was nice and recommend us options since it was our first visit. We also got a choice for natillas or chocolate mousse for our guests Birthday. This place has very good food, a good drink selection, a nice patio (dog friendly) and excellent service. We walked down for brunch recently and the patio wasn't set up, but we inquired and they promptly set us up on the patio and brought a huge pan of water for our three dogs. We were there for breakfast (huevos rancheros),, and they were very tasty. We were offered sopapillas at the end, but we were too full. We often walk down for happy hour, and that is terrific also. The service is excellent and the many choices of $5 appetizers are great! I usually take the shrimp quesadilla or fish tacos. They provide two fish tacos, but I can only eat one and take one home. When did Whataburger turn into Whatataco? A month ago, apparently! So there's a new El Patron in town in the building that used to house the Whataburger fast food restaurant. I had to see how they pulled off that transformation. I like the original El Patron well enough so when I happened to see the mini version, we decided to have dinner there that very night. So the first thing we noticed was a car at the drive-thru window. It turns out that you can order by phone and pick up at the window. Note: you can't order there, but it's still pretty convenient. Walking into the restaurant, I must say that they did a nice job in the remodel. Personally, I thought the lights were on the bright side which took away a bit from the ambience. However, there was a nice bar where the order-counter used to be. Pretty ceiling and lovely paintings, painted directly on the walls. I was torn between giving the restaurant a 3 or 4. I rounded up because your meal starts with complementary chips and salsa, which I like but doesn't always happen in Mexican restaurants in NM. Also, your meal ends with fresh sopaipillas (light, puffy, deep-fried tortillas) and honey. Tip: ask waiter to hold them until you've finished your meal so you can eat them while they are still warm. Yum! I ordered the taco salad with chicken. It was served in a tortilla bowl. I particularly like the way the chicken was cooked; not breaded but still crispy. My dinner companion ordered the Chicken Fajitas and he thought his chicken was on dry side. Also, the tortilla was tough. Lastly, there were lots of bell peppers and they were ''chewy.'' He'll give that dish another chance since the restaurant is so new and it's always been good at their original restaurant. I still stand by my 4-star rating to give this new Northeast Heights establishment a chance to work out any kinks. read more

After we asked about the delays, the server was apologetic; he only managed a excuse about the bartender being busy (when the restaurant was no way near full and it wasn't even 5pm). We waited at least 15 minutes for 2 margaritas! Then, we waited about 25 minutes for our meals. I love the fact that there's a second location for this hip New Mex and more restaurant. Food and drinks are great as well as the friendly service. The only drawback to the food is the Serrano cream sauce which is on a lot of the Speciality dishes. I use to love it several years ago. It had gotten much too hot in the past few years and in spite of many complaints - it's still too too hot.You can't enjoy those dishes. A waiter told me it was the Ghost peppers in it. So hopefully they'll listen to the complaints and add less Ghost pepper so people can eat some of the Speciality dishes that get murdered by this sauce. read more

Stopped by because we were in the area, for starters they bring out complimentary chips and salsa. Then we ordered a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer, the cocktail sauce was just ketchup so we asked for a side of horseradish to add to it and it was so needed. Food was meh, nothing to write home about tho. The place is clean and has a nice bar set-up. The guy in football jersey attending the place sunday afternoon. At first I thought he was mute ( not a "welcome, hello, what would you like to drink"?..nothing). He dropped off the menus and left, came back with ice water and left again (no words). What happened El Patron? We'd come regularly for your Al Pastor tacos, then you started scrimping on the meat. We tried again tonight...first time in 2 years and now no specialty tacos on the menu. We brought home flavorless chicken and carne asada tacos. Such a disappointment. Anyone can boil chicken, add no seasoning and throw it in a preformed corn tortilla with iceberg lettuce and a few tomatoes. Really? So expensive and zero love.
