    First birthday cake

El Pavo bakery has always made amazing and delicious cakes for my celebrations!! They went above and beyond to make my son's first birthday cake memorable and delicious! They knew exactly what we wanted and met every expectation and much more! Many of our guests complimented how tasty the cake was. I highly recommend trying their cakes and other goodies they have to offer. Thank you El Pavo!!

Best pan dulce in LA! The cashiers are nice and friendly. I usually get conchas or emotes but anything else is pretty good.

Tucked away in the San Gabriel Valley, an area now better known for Taiwanese Breakfasts or handmade Noodles, El Pavo Bakery & Restaurant has been around since 1962 when Don Pedro Vasquez immigrated from Mexico with an idea to serve Food from back home. Serving everything from Beans, Burritos and Tamales to Birthday Cakes and Pan Dulce it is inside the sizable shop that guests are invited to self-select yeasty Concha or Besos made the right way with thick Guava Jam and shredded Coconut. Fortunate to visit when Pan de Muerto was warm from the oven, several sizes suitable for families of all sizes, Cookies trend a little bit harder than many while Croissants, Oreja and filled Danishes are not only well-crafted but offered at an excellent price.

They were welcoming, friendly and patient while we looked and asked questions. I decided to get the ham Torta it was toasted good had good flavor. The chicharron was good not spicy. The red pork had a kick of spice and was very flavorful and soft. Tortillas freshly made and some good beans and rice. Of course we couldn't leave without a bag of mini conchas because their pan Dulce is one of the best. It was quiet with a little of lunch traffic coming in.

This review is for the delicious cakes and pan dulce they make! Growing up in Highland Park my family and I always went to that location but it has since closed. I now live near the San Gabriel one and El Pavo is now my go to place for cakes. I had to write down this review for the last cake and the exceptional service I received from their baker Juan . I gave them a picture of what I wanted and his artistry blew me away. My parents celebrated 55 years married and I wanted something equally as special. Coming from someone like myself who is very picky and detail oriented for parties they totally surpassed my expectations . All my family really enjoy their cakes /pan dulce and appreciate that they are not over the top sweet . Their location is always clean from what I can see and staff is very helpful when ordering . I've attached previous cakes that they have made for me.

Blah, this place is just okay. I got the Tinga burrito. 1/2 way thru the burrito, the other side starting to unravel. The food tastes good, but the burrito shouldn't fall out like that.

After Years of just stopping by for just the Concha's and other Delicious Pastries I finally decided to get a plate of food. It's always smelled amazing just never been hungry when I was near by. But it finally happened and Oh What a treat it was. The service was great and had a Homely feel to it. Thank you El Pavo for the delicious meal. We will definitely be back. Oh and you know we had to grab some Concha's for Home!!

    My haul :)

As I was driving, the store sign caught my eye and I u-turned back. So glad I did because the pastries did not disappoint! The concha was probably my favorite. I've tried many -- from El Super market to panaderias in Mexico City -- and the conchas they make are solid. My second favorite was definitely the polvorones. Love the tricolors so much. It's worth the visit for fresh pastries! They also have other food available but I didn't get that this time around. Next time!

This place is bomb. They recently redone the outside advertisement, so looks like a good little shop now before I would call it a hole in the wall but now it's a business lol JK. And I'll truthfulness, this place is a solid bakery, and has some good burritos. I personally like the Carnitas or carne asada here. Are used to live coming on Wednesdays because they had five dollar burritos, turns out they raise the prices to seven. I guess they have to pay for all that fancy advertisement on the storefront. But for seven bucks, still going to be the best burrito around. I would definitely recommend this place to somebody that is looking to buy some fresh bakeries or wanting some bomb burritos

The hours are a bit limited, but I managed to make it in time to grab some pre-made baked goods to go. I got a bag of coconut macaroons, bag of several chocolate chip cookies, 2 red velvet cookies, a baked dog cookie biscuit, and a cute Keroppi sugar cookie. Most of these ended up being gifts, but I did enjoy one of the red velvet cookies and for an already sweet flavor profile with white chocolate chips in it, I was already fearing the worse, but went perfect with a glass of milk. The edges were nicely crisped by the baking too. Delicious. Love that they had a stock of cute, pre-decorated cookies available as well (some Sanrio characters, animals, etc.) They also list all the ingredients used in each of the baked goods that they have prepackaged, which is nice. It's also a cafe where you can order drinks, as well as a place you can order cakes custom order or what they have behind the glass already. There's both seating inside and outside.

There's a small parking lot in the back, but spaces can be hard to find and I ended up having to park on the street the first time I went. (FYI - they are going to open a Goomo tea shop on the corner in the same space!) D'ange has so many fun flavors of buns. I really liked the taro with mochi one. The only thing about the buns is that the fillings tend to be only on one side of the bun, so there are been times as I'm biting into the bun, I'm not getting any filling until the last couple bites. They even sell cookies and all different flavors of toast that would make some yummy brick toast desserts! And if you need a whole cake, they have them in the case ready to go too! The buns I got were great, as were the Portuguese egg tarts. They even sold Chinese tamales at my last visit, so I picked one up too. I don't know many places that sell these, and I used to eat them all the time when my grandma made them years ago, but now that no one in my family knows how to make them, it's a special treat if I can find it. They have ones with meat (with or without peanuts), and some with just the mung bean. They must be really know for this because 2 other parties ahead of me were buying tons of the tamales!

The owner (I presume) handed us a prepackaged brown bag the moment we got there. It wasn't busy at all so the whole transaction was under 5 minutes. It's a mom & pop Asian bakery that's spacious and warm. Our surprise bag contained 7 mini breads: black sesame mochi, red sesame mochi, taro bun with filling, hot dog cheese bread, buo luo bao, ham + cheese bun, and another bread I couldn't quite identify. This is $21 value for $6.99 is what we paid. After heating them up, they tasted almost like fresh so we can't complain. However, I would say these days $3 would get you bigger buns at other similar bakeries, but their fillings were very generous, so it's hard to say. Parking has spots designated to the bakery so look out for the signs.
