Some places in life need a tour guide and perhaps this place proves the rule. It looks like a fast food place with better decor, but there was nothing fast about my food. I placed an order inside for my family at 7:14 pm and had it out on a tray at 7:51. (I have their printed receipts if you'd like to see them with the times on them.) A tour guide might have steered me away form this place on a Saturday night even though the line didn't seem long. The dining room was a mess. The trash cans were overflowing and the only 4 seater table badly needed to be wiped down. I asked the girl at the register for help with the table between orders and she seemed to indicate she would do something, but didn't. An experienced tour guide might have directed me to bring my own wipes 'just in case' the place was dirty. 20 minutes in I caught the attention of a girl was was toiling over carefully restocking the salsa bar with lids. I'm not sure how long you think that should take, but I assure you, she took four to five times longer. I mentioned that I had to clean my table and the trash cans were overflowing. She indicated they would do something about it. Later the manager came out and started cramming the trash down into the trash cans. Human trash compactors are much cheaper that mechanical ones. I had just seen him on the food line before and after that so let's all hope he took the time to wash his ungloved hands. Ok, it was dirty, but how was the food? I have no idea where a tour guide would have helped me here, but i think he or she would have steered me away from the street tacos. I thought I knew what those are supposed to be like with limited experience from Fuzzy's and Torchy's. At El Pollo Loco, street tacos means a thick corn tortilla, chicken and hearty helping of coleslaw. I'm one of the few people in my house that will eat coleslaw, but I don't want it taking center stage in my meal. I'm not worried about ever going back, but If i falter, it will be at the goading of a super-fan from California who has complete mastery over the menu with some spare time on a Tuesday afternoon around 2:00. read more

I think it's so funny that people only take the time out of their day to post negative responses when they have a bad experience. I was waiting in line at this establishment and there was a costumer that was so mad and disrespectful because his coupon was expired. He was so rude to the manager and she was so professional and respectful she was still able to give him what he wanted and later he writes lies about this store which hurts their business. I absolutely love this restaurant and you can tell they care about the quality of food that they serve to costumers. Their chicken is tender and I love their Mac n cheese. I'm going out of my way to express my happiness with this establishment. I hardly write reviews and there is a reason I'm writing today. I grew up eating at EPL. Even then, it was a place we would go to maybe twice a year at best. I finally got around to trying this location and it is pretty much the same. I ordered the 8 piece meal with rice and black beans. Ordered corn tortillas and for a buck more, I got a 5-pack of flour tortillas (my family likes both). You really have to go in because they have a salsa bar and if you ask for bigger containers, you can fill up on pIco, green and rojo salsas, plus cilantro, onions and lemon. They also have whole seranos for the brave. The order came out fast and the server showed my the chicken in the container and it was steaming hot. Service was very polite. There were only two customers there including myself. I don't know how much longer this place will remain open. All tasted really good. The beans did not taste over-done and the chicken was yummy. I ate it as a taco as well as a chicken and rice entree. I like extra lemon on mine. read more

The employees speak Spanish thinking their customers do not understand. The manager is unbelievable I guess he thinks he is to good to clean a table. A customer complained he calls a cashier who is in the middle of taking an order. Gives her the rag to go clean and does her job. Train your employees properly. The service was mediocre while I was waiting for my order four customers were complaining about their orders not being correct. So happy to have a delicious alternative to all the fried chicken!! This chicken was moist and flavorful. You get to see them grilling the chicken over the open flame. That is an amazing smell. I had the three piece meal with cole slaw and rice. Both of the sides were really good. The cole slaw was not too sweet, and the rice was moist. My daughter got the classic chicken burrito and she said it had a good ratio of rice beans and chicken. The kids got the quesadilla and gobbled it up. The salsa bar looked clean and had a great variety. We really liked the spicy avocado salsa. The churros where so good! They were handing them out to the kids when they first opened. Great idea! Black Bean Chicken Bowl should actually be named Broccoli Chicken Bowl. I just ate at this little cafe tonight and ordered the above. I may have had a tablespoon of black beans in the bowl total. But had about 5 tablespoons of broccoli. There was very little chicken - not really a full piece of chicken breast. The service was okay and the place was really busy. Very disappointed. Food was good. However, I'm giving a single star due to the cleanliness of the restaurant. It's filthy. There was someone taking the trash out and every single table had food crumbs and bits. I had to ask that person to clean a table. Decided to drive out and try ordering a take out family meal. I ordered the 8 piece mixed with mac and cheese, rice, and black beans. I did not receive the mac and cheese I paid for so I have no idea what it is like. Rice and bean were ok. The chicken was very dry and cold. They gave me extremely small and oddly cut pieces. Had the privilege of visiting for the first time today, and was SO pleased!! I am a huge avocado fan, and it seems like over half the menu had avocado in it! I ended up getting the chicken fajita quesadilla which looked very similar to Taco Bell's crunch wrap supreme; however, this thing was STUFFED with chicken, fajita peppers and onions, avocado, and other yummy fresh ingredients. It was less than $6, which I felt was a great value. Their sides are healthy and fresh, classic rice, charro/black beans, broccoli (I was surprised!), but they also have mac n cheese. I was excited to try El Pollo Loco in Allen, Texas on Stacy. But, when I got there they were out of chicken. They had salads, burritos, and tacos. But.... And, it was about 2pm. Oh my. And, they are open until 10pm another 8 hours without chicken. The name has chicken in Spanish. It's like going to KFC running out of chicken and saying, we have potato salad, mashed potatoes and gravy. It's. Like Pizza Hut running out of pizza and saying, we have breadsticks, salads, and brownies. When I checked the reviews this has happened before like about a month before my review. They've been out of several other things previously, too. This is not good business. It obviously reflects poor planning on the management. I got one of their chicken bowls, I liked it but I always compare every rice type bowl to chipotle and nothing compares to chipotle so maybe I'm a little biased. It was good, not great, I probably wouldn't go back for it. I ordered the 2-piece meal and I found the chicken to be overly dried out so most likely they left the chicken way too long over the grill. Chicken is bland, although it looks delicious and pretty on the rotisserie. Spicy shrimp tacos is what I ordered. The shrimp was tasty, but they came with two tiny shrivels of avacado instead of decent sized slices. It definitely looked like they were trying to skimp on food. Went to the window,paid, the lady did not give me a receipt. Then when she handed me the sodas I went to go taste mine first,the soda was flat.
