"I can't do math in my head." That's what the cashier said when I handed her a quarter with my twenty. My total for eight pieces of chicken was $13.16. I didn't want to have 84 cents clinking around in my pocket, so I pulled out the quarter. "Really?" I replied. "That's too bad." I think I hurt the young lady's feelings, but...really? A cashier should be able to count back change. Seriously. That's what cashiers are supposed to do. Right? Anyway, back to the review. I almost walked out of the place because of the hideous, sloppy mess on the salsa bar. Disgusting. It looked like somebody dragged a dirty rag across the top of it. Blech! Nevertheless, folks were loading up their little cups with the (questionably) fresh salsa. Thirteen bucks is also pretty pricey for eight pieces of chicken. I should have gotten a whole roaster at Super A instead. I think they sell 'em for about six bucks. The chicken tasted okay, thus, the two stars. I think I should also do review of Arcadia High School and give them one star for failing to teach kids how to do math. I've been to this location a few times. The food is better than most fast food and my kiddos love the talk too fries. The staff is always friendly and the manager has waited on me at the counter a few times. He's friendly as well and lets me use more than one coupon which is always a bonus. I always swing by here to pick up a family meal when I'm just too mentally and physically exhausted to cook for the ten thousand kids i feel like I am home with 24/7! I know there's another location on Rosemead with a drive thru, but I like to support local restaurants. Call me old fashion but I like to spend my money where I live. read more

This El Pollo Loco location is the best one I've eaten at. The chicken is always cooked perfectly, hot, juicing and tender. The rice is even cooked well, not dried out. The customer service is good, the employees are pleasant and nice. They give you to go plates and the large cups for salsa when you ask. Some locations won't give any large cups or they come with attitude. This is still a fast food type chain restaurant but this location should train employees from other locations. read more

Items ordered: 21 - 3 piece meals (yep, 21 meals!) I came here on a Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) around 10:45 to pickup food for our workers. I first went to the Arcadia location on Las Tunas/Baldwin, and because it was the day after Thanksgiving, they decided to open at 11am instead of 10am like they usually do. Welp, because of that, they missed out on a large order which would've made it worthwhile to open up. So I ended up at this location on Duarte Rd. This location was very accommodating, the manager was cool about it. When I told him I had a large order, he gave me a business card so I could have their phone number for future orders. Since it was early, they didn't have much chicken on the grill yet, so they threw on a bunch of chicken on the grill. The order took around 25 mins for my order. Everything was good, I'll come back to this location next time. read more

I go to this location a lot because it's so close to my office. Their dollar menu rocks! You can get taquitos, tacos, bean and cheese burritos, quesadillas, a piece of chicken or even churros all for just a buck. Everything tastes pretty decent. I also read recently that El Pollo Loco Chicken is healthier than other places. Supposedly, a group of people ran tests on the food and found that their chickens don't have any of those hormones or chemicals that people are worried about. read more

I love El Pollo Loco!! Used to come here a lot when I was in high school, and I still go every once in a while. My parents sometimes just buy a big ol box of chicken to eat for dinner. Their chickens are always tender, moist, and flavorful. BUT. My absolute favorite from El Pollo Loco is their chicken caesar salad bowl. CHICKEN. CAESAR. SALAD. BOWL. I don't think it's on their current menu anymore. Actually I don't think it's been on their menu for a while now. But they do have it. Basically... it's a bowl. They put a bed of Spanish rice on the bottom, some crisp lettuce and greens, chopped grilled chicken, crispy bits of tortilla chips, and their dressing. Not sure what exactly is in this dressing, but it's got some Mexican flavors so it's not your traditional caesar salad. I think there's cilantro in it, but who cares it's delicious!!! I also get some hot salsas from their salsa bar and eat it with that also. YUUUM. Fun fact: just had this for dinner last night. heh read more

Suffice it to say, all their ads for tasty, leaner-than-fried chicken worked and I swung by here for a dinner when I decided I was too tired to whip one up at home. Ordered their two piece dark meal with BBQ black beans, corn tortilla and Spanish Rice, and a "chicken carnitas" taco. The taco was not bad for a chain offering, it had a good tang and nice spices - but the tortilla was really limp. As for the meal, it was alright though the chicken was still pretty greasy for being flame-broiled (and without the crisp); spanish rice was pretty bland by itself but better when mixed with salsa. BBQ black beans unexpectedly good (then again, what isn't when sugar-ed up?) Of course, the health factor flew right out the window when I looked up my meal's nutritional content and found out I ate nearly 1,000 calories! (Also learned that they offer skinless chicken options, so may do that next time) read more

Maybe because the people that drag themselves into this fast food restaurant look like what they eat, a little oily, stale, and sometimes sad. The handful of times I came here was because my fiance's family loves cheap fast food. Cheap? I'm down! Haha. My soon-to-be mother-in-law saw an advertisement for a chicken piece meal for twenty dollars: it came with an avocado salad, rice, beans, tortillas, and churros. There were three of us eating, and with forces combined, we can eat a lot, but even the tres of us couldnt eat everything there. SALAD: a sad plastic bowl of romaine, with a handful of toppings. The family and I forgot it was even there, I pretty much picked out the avocado and put it in my food. TORTILLAS: pretty good, they come HOT! I like the thickness of the tortillas too! CHICKEN: The chicken looks a little sad and greasy but its actually pretty good - the meat has citrus, grilled flavor and the meat is juicy CHURROS: the churros looked a little sad or old but they were surprisingly delicious! Crunchy, not oily, and loaded with cinnamon and sugar. I should have skipped my birthday cake and eaten the churros instead. read more

If you go to this location be prepare to wait a long time just to get to the salsa bar, all the Asians in front of you take enough salsa home for the entire week. They often finish it all and leave none for the people waiting to get some. They even ask the employees to get bigger containers for salsa than the ones already there. First it was lunch time so may have been little busy but facility itself was unkept, salsa bar was messy. 2nd I ordered double chicken avocado salad and avocado tasted like it was bad. I like El Pollo Loco. Their chicken is acctually chicken! Horrray! My favorite is the Chicken Ceasar Salad Bowl. Yummy. It comes with greens, special cilantro sauce, and tomato! I just ordered for the family and was about to leave when they noticed they hadn't prepared a Pollo bowl as ordered. So they prepared a new one. I asked if they were gonna throw out the other Pollo bowl and was told they would. I asked if I could have it and the guy said they'd have to charge me so I declined. Can you imagine they would rather throw away good food instead of giving it to a customer who's been coming there 15 years? Doesn't make sense to me. read more

Wife got out of work late about 7 last night and we decided to pick up pollo loco. Ended up waiting about 30 minutes because they didn't have any chicken ready. What restaurant doesn't have food ready for rush hour or towards the end of rush hour. And it's not the first time this has happen. She ordered a 12 piece meal with rice and beans. When she finally got the order she didn't bother to check because it was late and she just wanted to get home. We got a 8 piece chicken only. I think we got someone else's order because my wife said there was a couple of cars waiting. Tried calling but went straight to voice mail. I used to like coming to this location because its usually quieter and less busy than the temple city one, but I found that the quality of the food is going downhill. The pico salsa always looks kinda gross, I even found a small worm in it once, yuck! However, the cashier who took my order, her name was Angelina, was friendly and attentive. Safe to say el pollo loco is usually on my list for average food and I usually don't come here unless I absolutely have to. Last week was one of those moments. So I ordered a 8 piece and a few sides to notice that everything is flame grilled... great:) that makes this meal relatively healthy compared to the deep-fried mess over at kfc. But as you pick your salsa, you see dried salsa stains, messy atmosphere, and less than stellar service which brings my rating down a lot. Anyways I feel like I paid way too much for my meal (8 piece..13.99) but not too bad. The flavor was okay and had an average experience. All in all, this place deserves a 2star rating for simple mediocrity read more

Been here many times but the last time about 2 weeks ago sucked. Got 3 large chicken soups and was $21.00 and not package the way it should have been. By the time I got home it was a mess. Took the survey that is offered on the receipt and because it was a problem I was asked if I would like a phone call. I answered yes and gave my phone number and never got a call.
