If you're in search of cheap and yummy Mexican food that's ready in a flash, El Potro is it! I've never been to the other locations, but the WP one is killer. I get the Vegetarian #3, which consists of a tostado (that comes with fresh guac) and a bean burrito that's slathered in a white cheese sauce with a red sauce topping that....SO incredibly filling and comforting. It's definitely not healthy, but it's dang good. My boyfriend and I go at least once a month when we're feeling lazy (we usually cook every night). I can only comment on the buffet... but for $12 it cannot be beat. When my coworkers said 'buffet', I was expecting Chinese buffet-style slop and was surprised to find real quality food here. Tell me how El Potro's canitas off the buffet somehow tastes as good as ordering a carnitas dish from Blue Agave? Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but not by much. Came here for lunch after playing at the park down the street. There is a great lunch menu that, unlike most restaurants, you can dine from even on Saturdays. I got the lunch steak fajitas which came with rice and beans. There was plenty of meat, green peppers and onions. It also came with a good amount of toppings including guacamole. My friend got the lunch chicken fajitas and also enjoyed hers. The kids got the chicken nuggets and French fries and cheese quesadilla with French fries. The kids quesadilla is one soft taco folded over with cheese so it may not satisfy an older kid. The chicken nuggets were good and a decent portion. One suggestion would be to provide paper and crayons for kids to use while waiting as the food is not super quick. We also always loved their quesadillas. We haven't found anything like it since we've moved. There's so cheesy and they're not stingy on the meat. I always ordered the carnitas taco. This is the second time I've eaten there, both times with a large group. The first time was AMAZING, which is why we came back. This time though, I was not impressed. The server was asked if the kitchen would make a simple cheese burrito for my 4 yr old grandchild and was told "no we don't do special requests". I myself ordered the fajitas texicanas and the beef was so burnt I couldn't eat it! I ate the chicken and the shrimp as well as everything else. When I mentioned this to the server, she stated that because I had eaten most of my meal there was nothing that she could do. I was so let down by this I remember when I was a delivery driver I was constantly delivering from this establishment, the fish for the fish taco was off putting and extremely smelly and tasted off so then I ordered the cheese quesadilla and the quesadilla had sliced cheese in it, processed sliced Kraft tasting cheese. My husband and I used to enjoy going here until we were racially profiled by their employees. We went in to get our to go order, paid at the cash register, then picked up our order and left. When we got to our car a male employee ran out and approached us asking if we paid for our food. We paid in person just moments before this!!! We showed him the receipt (being black in America we always ask for a receipt for issues like this one) and he just said "oh ok" and left. I don't understand why he couldn't of just asked his coworker that we cashed out with before running and chasing us. Unfortunately, we are no strangers to situations like this but every time we are targeted and profiled it is shocking and upsetting in a way only someone who has dealt with it can understand. I like their rice, although it can be too oily at times. I also like the free chips and salsa - the salsa is good, but not spicy enough for my taste. And all I've ever had is their lunch buffet, and other lunch menu items, which are incredibly cheap! So, essentially, if you are paying less than $5 for a meal, you can't really expect too much. If you came to El Potro looking for fancy-schmancy Mexican food and then get disappointed, that's your own fault. Just sayin'. read more
