Best Mexican food in Kingwood/Porter area!! We have tried several Mexican joints in the area and some we like the salsa, some have good margaritas and most have mediocre queso. We recently tried El Ranchero and were so pleased with the taste, service, price and everything in between. Great food, great margaritas, great salsa and the staff is amazing!! I had forgotten how good there guacamole is. No onions in it! Sweet, light taste. Simple. The avocado shines through. We used to come here all the time, but then Chachi's opened near us. Two words disgusting and yuck, I ordered my food it was nice to see it sizzling to me but less then five mins since I've ordered only to find food uncooked the chicken was raw and so were we're the peppers. When I confronted they took my plate and recooked to over heat. No problem since its finally cooked and edible. But as I was leaving I watch the waiter take the remaining chips drop two on the floor and pick it up and put back in the basket for the next guest instead of throwing it in the trash. Easily the worst Mexican food experience of all time!! Our dinners were both ruined by processed cheese. The cheese this restaurant uses is without a doubt Velveeta or most likely a Velveeta substitute. It has the exact flavor and consistency of Velveeta. It was so disgusting neither of us could eat our meals. I'm not absolutely positive but it also seemed to me that the guacamole is out of a can. This is the type of food I would expect to get at a food court in the middle of the mall, not exaggerating. If you enjoy trying to swallow your food with an aftertaste of paste this is your place. We love this place! I've never tried anything bad here. My favorite thing to order is the Camarones el ranchero (shrimp brochette!). This place is very casual. The salsa is pretty good, my son loves the queso and quesadillas too. :) read more

Our family's favorite restaurant! Economical, delicious, folks who know you. What could be better, other than the Chicken Diablos! Always an enjoyable experience and far better than the average Mexican fare, even in Houston! I didnt like, yesterday I had the Fiesta plate that consisted of chicken enchiladas, rice and beans. The enchiladas and the rice had some sort of cheap cheesy velveeta type of sauce blended into them, the enchiladas had very little chicken in them and the rice started clumping up due to the cheese sauce as it cooled down. The waiter, cashier and the girl who served my Ice tea, chips and salsa all presented the attitude like they would rather be some place else, but it was monday, LoL. I do have to admit though that the interior of the restaurant was very authenic and very much had the feel of Mexico to it, too bad the food wasnt as authenic as well. read more

It was my first time here and let me tell you, it was horrendous. I walked in with a sense of doubt right when I walked through the front doors. I was not greeted by anyone. Overall service was horrible and the dip for the chips tasted like water. I ordered 3 chicken tacos and they came out super pink while having a similar look and texture to a canned tuna. I also ordered 3 guacamole taco thinking that there would be guacamole as a topping. Instead of receiving what I thought I had imagined, I received three stale taco shells filled with bland avocado, lettuce, and tomato. Taking the first bite made me want to gag. After eating here for the very first time, I don't think I will be coming back. read more

The food was excellent and the service even better. We opted to enjoy a New Year's Eve dinner here and we were not disappointed. There was plenty of room to accommodate our party on short notice (4 adults and 2 kids). The chicken enchiladas were well seasoned and the Spanish rice was perfect. Great place to eat. read more

Food is great......but don't leave your cell phone or purse employees are thieves.....Stole my daughters new Galaxy cell phone and all the money out of her wallet...we were the last customer of the night No doubt it was somebody that worked there. Management was of no help at all. read more

We ordered the chicken fajitas for two and our meal came out in less than five minutes. Everything tasted old and reheated. There were virtually no peppers in the fajitas and some of the onions were barely cut. Overall, a very disappointing experience. There's no way the chicken hadn't been pre-cooked and then reheated. It was extremely dry and some pieces were still cold. On the up side, the tea was good and the chips and salsa were great. read more

First and last time here. We ordered fajitas mixed, the chicken was boiled and not seasoned tasted gamy. Waiter and manager apologized and returned with only beef fajitas-it was worse! Tasted like liver! The rice was also with no flavor and the charro beans were hard. Tortillas are store bought. I do not recommend. read more

The food is always good but I was appalled today that the grilled cheese kids meal was $7.05 and it was burnt! I've been here a few times and have ordered different options each time. Was never impressed or satisfied. But after my last visit,I know for sure that I won't be coming back. The chicken tacos I ordered looked horrible and tasted like bland boiled chicken. My son found roaches in their "game room" as well. We used to go here 2-3 times per month. We never thought it was really good food, but we always thought it was really reasonably priced with good service. We always got chicken fajitas, which were pretty good (beef fajitas suck). However, they just raised their prices. Now they're not that great, and they have regular prices, so we're out. read more

I love this place! This is a favorite of our entire family and we LOVE the cheese dip. This restaurant is family owned and run and this is the only Mexican restaurant we eat at in Kingwood.
