I love this place. It is my favorite place in the whole world. I love there workers (especially Cindy). There food is amazing, I especially love the sushi, breakfast sandwich/burrito, hot bar, orange chicken, chocolate milk with a lot of protein, mints, gum, and basically everything except the giggles candy (they are so over priced and trash, I don't understand why anyone would even consider touching them, not even thinking about spending money on them, you'd have to pay me to eat those garbage balls) besides that, It's great. The R Country Market in Los Olivos where I love LOVE to enjoy tri tip sandwiches is/was under renovation, so I was told by the locals that this place was just as good......if not better. Yeah right, I was skeptical to say the least.....not anymore my random anonymous internet friend.....the Jordan (deli tri tip sandwich) was nothing short of AMAZING. Will be going back. Again and again and again. I was so disappointed that the County (which I was told) seems to be dragging its feet with the R Country Market renovation/permits, but government bureaucracy actually worked out for me this one time. Today I ventured off of the 101 fwy and ended up at El Rancho Market in Santa Ynez. What a treat! A community market that specializes in local goods. The hot deli serves up family favorites like tri-tip, pulled pork, meatloaf, lasagna. The list goes on. The bakery is central coast committed. Amazing pecan bars, fresh bread, tiramisu, cakes and more. A trained sushi chef is available to created anything your taste buds desire. I enjoy the rainbow roll in rice paper filled with salmon and cream cheese. The seaweed salad is perfect. Now the best part, butcher dept. Local wagu beef, tomahawk steaks, Mary's Organic chicken and more. There is a fantastic selection of local beer and wine in the wine cave. I don't want to leave out the vast selection of European delights that reminded me of family. Lastly, don't forget to visit the coffee shop. Although a tad more expensive than other local supermarket moguls, what El Rancho offers is worth the money. Fresh, organic produce, grass fed meats, natural foods, vast selection of local wines, cheeses, cutesy home decor and lets not forget about the deli and bakery section. Fresh in house sandwiches, rotating hot dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner meals, great sushi and oh my on their desserts! Baked daily, their wide arrangements of cakes and pastries are simply delightful! The atmosphere, the goods, friendly service and overall experience is truly enjoyable. Great deli salads, salad bar, hot bar, house made dressings, dips, bakery and tri-tip sandwiches worth a special trip. Today's visit = 1 star Why? Well it was not due to the inventory of items nor the due to Jenni (who is the nicest lady) that was the on duty cashier. It was exclusively due to Bald Pot-bellied Prick that was the manager. He has a piss poor nasty facetious unprofessional attitude to make up for his total lack of knowledge about merchandise...asked him if he knew if the stoneware bowls were leadfree. He says "I dont know I didnt make them..." NO SH1T! He mistakenly thought he looked like a spitting image of Patrick Swayne in Ghost and we just assumed he was making pottery all damn day sitting behind Demi Moore. I'm sure he did not farm the vegetables, bottle the wine, bake the bread nor butcher the beef they sell but if a paying customer ask a question about items in the store, a simple "Sorry I don't know..." is the way to respond. read more

The deli is outright amazing! They have anything from breakfast burritos to fresh sushi, fried chicken, garlic wings, sides...you name it! If you're just passing by or staying in town this is the spot to stop! They even have a convenient coffee shop attached to the building. This is the best place to buy meats to put on the grill, grab some ready made sides, wine, and make a cheese board. We come in whenever we are in town for a day or for the week. The hamburger made with bacon is a must. Put those bad boys on the grill and be prepared for the accolades! The butchers are so helpful with their suggestions. We also got two different sausages to try out. Ask about the Danish style sausage they have as well. It is the best place to grab food to go that is prepped as well. El Rancho has an amazing deli with some delicious sandwiches. I love the Ballard canyon delight. The staff work quickly and the prices are great. This place is always busy, so clearly a popular spot. They have such unique items to shop around for as well. Their produce always looks so fresh. The most recent time I went, my sandwich somehow went missing and the woman helping me was super quick to remedy the situation. She made me a fresh sandwich and even gave it to me for free! Stop ordering lousy pizza or pulling out the cardboard box in your freezer. El Rancho makes fresh pizzas daily that you can take home and heat up. The veggies are fresh; the crust is homemade; the cheeses are delicious. They also make killer burgers, Reuben sandwiches, and their own onion rings. Everything is made from scratch. And they have a great produce department as well. And if you're looking for bakery goods, they also make a gorgeous carrot cake. I still wish they'd start offering packages of vanilla cupcakes instead of just carrot and chocolate. I miss them! Nothing in the SYV is cheap, but El Rancho is still a better deal than New Frontiers, and it's got a more earthy feel. read more

I grew up going to this store, and had fond memories of it, I moved away after high-school and moved back recently. Why they have a great deli, and wine selection, there a little over priced but that is to be expected in this area. What had been the biggest disappointment has been the attitudes of the cashiers that work in the evening. They are cold, and seem to have much judgement, and at times are just plain rude. It isn't appropriate for people in customer service to act that way. Honestly if it wasn't so close to the house I wouldn't go there just because of them. Frankly I feel sorry for them they must be miserable to act that way towards there customers who are already paying for over priced food. Who's ever in charge of employers should step it up. Local here. I've heard good things about El Rancho's meat dept and deli, but this review is for the other parts of the grocery store and for their sushi. My post is a bit long but the public deserves to know. It had been awhile since my husband and I went to El Rancho and we decided to give them another chance and shop here for a few things. **Insert IVE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE gif here** After we walked out, I recalled why we haven't come here for so long. CRAMPED, OVERPRICED, and LITTLE SELECTION FOR SOME ITEMS. The store itself is pretty cramped and during COVID it was difficult to stay 6 feet apart; people were forced to get very close just to get by in the aisles. At least most of them wore masks. El Rancho also didn't have everything we needed and it was WAY overpriced. I knew it'd be pricey going in, but I don't remember it being this expensive! It's really too bad this area doesn't have more competition. FISHY, OVERPRICED SUSHI. In the past, we used to get sushi from here and it was good. But this time, to say the quality was lacking is an understatement. When my husband and I got home to eat a few of their rolls, the tuna tasted very off and fishy. The rolls also fell apart when we picked them up. For the prices, I expected MUCH better quality. Avoid food poisoning and go to Lompoc or New Frontiers instead; their sushi is fresher and not as expensive. I should have listened to my instincts to avoid coming here. Not sure if I'll return, but if I do, it'll be when it's less busy and cramped. If you have no other options, this will do. But if you can, I recommend shopping elsewhere for larger grocery trips. read more

Had I been closer to home I would have bought one of the thick and beautifully marbled inch thick ribeyes which were priced at a reasonable $10.99/lb. Their ready made roast beef sandwich was surprisingly delicious although their buffalo chicken sandwich was very carb heavy as they were made from chicken fingers and the sauce drenched breading was unpleasantly soggy. read more

We stayed in a hotel just up the street that didn't have the right adaptor for our electric car, but we had seen online that El Rancho had charging stations available. We got there, plugged in, and checked out the market. Let's just say, I could have stayed in Santa Ynez/Solvang all weekend and never have gone out to eat once thanks to El Rancho Market. It's HUGE and they have an AMAZING selection of prepared foods. You could grab something and eat it outside on their patio right then and there! I was especially impressed by their salad and sushi bars (yes, I ate from both...we went to El Rancho every day of our trip I'm not kidding!). We grabbed a bunch of snacks and drinks to load up our hotel room refrigerator. They even had someone there doing a wine tasting by their wine cellar! They literally had everything you could have ever wanted from the supermarket (junk food, health food, a big alchohol selection), including some locally made goods. I wish there was an El Rancho by where I live! When I am back in Solvang, I will definitely be coming back. read more
