Horrible dining experience. Went there with a friend from out of state because we had heard good things about this place from reddit which I deeply regret listening to. Everything took more than 45min to come out and it came out staggered so we could not eat together. I wish the place would have told me about the wait because ofc I would have ordered something else. It took over 30min for our first dish to come (carnitas burrito) and when it did, it was emaciated with way too much tortilla to stuffing, and the meat was very dry and overdone. My fiance said he has had better burritos at Chipotle. My friend from out of state said hers was a very basic cheese quesadilla. We asked for an update on how long the qiesabirria plate would take and the server would not give us an answer only that it was "backed up." Everyone was finished dby the time it came out. They didn't offer a refund initially but did acquiesce when asked, and still gave us the dish. ...It was bad. Everything was so dry. The beans tasted days old. The birria consome was watered down and bland which I didn't think was possible for birria to be. Even the onions, cilantro, and lime could not save the tacos as they were dryer than the Sonora desert. Honestly I'm the most upset that after all of that, the food wasn't even good. Idk I feel like if you throw a stone, you can get better Mexican food at wherever it lands in Tucson. This place was absolutely not worth the hype and we will not be returning. I feel so bad that I took my out of state friend here who was looking forward to good Mexican food. All the drinks were good. The folks there recommended the Barrio tacos, and they were incredible--fresh, packed with flavor, and seriously tasty. I've been here a few times and tonight's food was amazing. I heard the Rojitos de Cameron were the best here. I was unfamiliar with the dish, but it was like a quesabirria taco, but with shrimp and not birria which I've only seen as beef in the States. I came before a dinner rush and asked the staff what was the shrimp taco there. I was told the Rojitos de Cameron and that's what I couldn't remember from what I read online. At first, I was skeptical about shrimp and cheese on the same taco, but it was a game changer. It was served with what I believe to be the same consume as what is normally served with birria. I added chips and salsa to my meal and it hit $30 before tip. Forgot to check the price of chips and salsa. A heads up, the tacos take a bit to get made so order ahead if you're in a time crunch. A bit of time passes and my name is called. I sit down and it looks like I got the wrong order of beef tacos. I take them back to the counter and ask if these are the right tacos. She apologized and said no that's the wrong order. It's going to be a bit longer. When I get the tacos, they're amazing. Some of the best tacos I've had. The Carne Asada was full flavored, juicy(but could've been a tad better) and was a good cut of steak. This is a 2026 update for one of my favorite places in Tucson to get tacos. This little spot had terrible timing,opening right when the pandemic hit and all restaurants were closed for in person dining. So when I have company visiting, I like to go here and share the various items I love on the menu. I believe they're well known for their Quesabirria tacos. I really enjoy their shrimp tacos, rojitos de camarón. They're open for breakfast, but I have yet to come in for any sort of breakfast burrito or breakfast plate. This past Saturday, I came in at 9:30am and noticed they now sell chicharrones in bags at the counter. They have a more updated menu. The lady behind the counter was very sweet and friendly, and we chatted for a few minutes as it wasn't bustling with customers quite yet. I ordered a Lorenzo with pork, quesabirria taco, in addition to my favorite pineapple slaw. The food is reasonably priced and it comes out pretty quickly. The inside is has several tables and is pretty clean. The only thing is the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Come check out El Rustico. read more

A great place for Quesabirria. We have come here before and really enjoyed the food and service. This time we loved the food but the service was subpar. We were helped by a Jessica L (according to the receipt) who was condescending and not nice to my family. We had 6 of us in our group and ordered at the counter as usual. We each had 3 quesabirria tacos with the rice and beans and ordered a bag of the fried pork rinds as well. Our bill was about $138 before tip. Jessica L was not nice to our kids who ordered the usual chicken quesabirria combo plates. She made a comment about the order being unusual and did they know what they were doing - that sort of thing. I didn't learn of this until after we left the restaurant or I would've said something or amended my tip appropriately. I like their food here but they better clean up their service or they won't do well in the future. We wanted some tacos while in Tucson, I researched some good things about El Rustico and decided to check them out! Upon walking in, we were greeted and asked if it's our first time visiting. We said yes and she showed us the menu and gave some recommendations on the Quesabirria combo meal which comes with soup, rice and beans ($15.99). You can choose 2 or 3 tacos and various meats to go with it. I ordered the 3 tacos with mahi mahi, shrimp and al pastor. My hubby ordered the same except with all 3 al pastor. The portions are amazing and they give you a lot of meat and shells to balance it out. Now the only thing I will say about the drinks is the Horchata I appreciate a well balanced not overly sweet Horchata but, once I got towards the bottom of the drink I definitely tasted the premade mixture floating at the bottom. The asada was very dry unfortunately and lacked flavor for me the shrimp in the taco saved it. The cactus had a ton of flavor, the salsas that were provided were ok and helped with the asada. So very good. If you find yourself pulling off of Oracle and onto El Rustico's parking lot, you really have to get in there and try the Quesabirria taco. Obviously, I'm not, "the boss of you", and you can go rogue and choose something else, but this one (the quesabirrria) is really worth the trip! I am 90% sure that it is the signature dish of the place (a number of people recommended it). Even if it is not, the quesabirria truly is an amazing mixture of flavors and textures. If you have not yet sampled one of these savory bits of Mexico, get yourself ready for something that is truly unique. The blend of Mexican cheeses that are pan-melted onto a corn tortilla is probably my favorite part of the dish. The crisp-ified cheeses add both a slightly-salty flavor, and slightly crunchy mouth texture! Seasoned slow-cooked beef rests on the soft taco and it pairs beautifully with the afore- mentioned tortilla. Sprinkle on a little cabbage, and in your hand--behold!!!... something that comes close to a bit of perfection. The addition of consommé--a side broth that comes with the order --allows patrons to dip the taco into a really tasty soup-ish broth. Each bite can be (and should be!) dipped in. The place is decorated simply and has an authentic real-Mexico, family-run- business vibe. As I ate with my wife, we watched the owner and his employees joyfully interact with customers (as they did with us too). Not sure if it's because I am from California and this was different than tacos there, but I ordered one quesabirria, one chicken flour taco, and one carne asada flour taco, and all of them were amazing! Quesabirria is my favorite though, the outside had such a nice crunchy/crisp texture, great flavor; the carne asada flour taco comes in second! They have plates (comes with 3 tacos, rice and beans) or you can order items separate, I would recommend getting separate if you're passing by to try more. They also had 3 different sauces, all of them also great, and tolerable spice for me (mild/mild-medium). The red sauce in the clear bottle was my favorite, the most acidic/tangy. Other spots stew the buche. I typically stay away from carne asada but this one was tender and had a nice smokey flavor. The birria and cabeza were cooked PERFECTLY. Lots of birria places I go to are overcooked and dry. On the other hand, places usually overstew cabeza where it becomes too mushy.
