But the burrito supremes covered in cheese are a must have(5 stars)! Our waitress was quick with our food! The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because when my friend asked if chicken could be added to her spinach quesadillas for a upcharge the waiter said "no" very quickly and somewhat rudely. Every job I ever had, we were taught to make the customer happy and if the customer wants chicken added then chicken gets added to the order! Disappointing!! But overall good food! OMG!!!!!!! Can we say THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! We were shown to our seat then we were ignored. A family that was seated roughly 10 minutes after us was waited on and received their food and drinks and we still hadn't been waited on. Another server took our drink orders but we still hadn't been able to place a food order. Finally after us loudly bitching she comes over to take our order and was very nasty to us, which I definitely voiced to her, and then told her to forget us placing an order someplace we were obviously not welcomed, most likely because we are WHITE. I can say that because the table that was next to us were all WHITE too and like us they were ignored. If that's how they treat customers there I pray that the good Lord above sees fit to burn the place again read more

Food was okay but we're having a LOT of heartburn 2 hours later, which we rarely get. The ladies bathroom was truly dirty. The floor drain was filled with gunk and litter. The metal stall walls are rusting out from the bottom. There's no way to keep an old, rusty bathroom even reasonably clean. The whole bathroom needs a redo. read more

I rarely write poor reviews. But here we go. I have never experienced such terrible service at a restaurant. My family waited longer than 10 minutes before our waiter (Ricardo) came to the table to get our drink order. We then waited another 15 minutes to receive those drinks--three sweet teas, two waters, and one margarita. Actually, he forgot one water, and we had to wait forever for him to bring WATER. He finally decided to take our food order, neglecting to write down anything we ordered. (Now normally, I have no problem with this. I think it's awesome when waiters can remember big orders! But I wasn't too confident in this guy.) In the middle of taking our order, he turned around and started chatting with another waiter. By the time he turned his attention back to us, he had already forgotten part of our order and we ordered again. Great. He assures us he'll remember everything. Uh huh, OK, sure. So the food finally arrives. Well, let me rephrase that. Part of our food arrives--my dad's meal was forgotten (go figure). While our fajitas were good (not the best), the rice on all of our plates was cold. Not lukewarm, cold. At this point, do we send it back? No, we've already been at the restaurant for more than 45 minutes. What's the point? I decided to time how long it would take for my dad's meal to arrive. Our food arrived at 8:05, and his came at 8:17. No apology whatsoever for the forgotten meal or even the cold food. I been coming to this restaurant for years. Real good food and good service until tonight. Met a lazy server who would not go check to see if they had a drink that was listed on the menu because he did not want to make to many trips. One he did not make himself understood his accent was to strong (I am bi-lingual) I could not understand at first. Then I got what he was saying, VERY RUDE like " what else do you want, I dont want to go all the way over there and then come back to take the rest of the order. What other drink. Twirling his pen like we were to much trouble. My in laws don't speak spanish, and my father in law did not understand this guy. He was lazy and very rude. I decided to leave and he followed me to the front telling me to go with God. Then he accused me of hitting him, he was right next to me i moved my hand to put my handbag strap back on my shoulder and he walked into my 2 fingers with his mouth. Beware the Meat Scam! Steak, chicken, or ground beef. Besides the occasional seafood offering, those are the meat choices at 99.9% of Mexican restaurants. I didn't want chicken or ground beef, so I ordered steak for my lunchtime chimichanga. However, El Sazon has this other mystery meat called "beef chunks" on their menu. So if you order steak, they will gladly remind you of the difference. At the register. With a $3 surcharge. No mention of that on the menu. And my waitress apparently got a sudden attack of lockjaw when I ordered and failed to say it would cost more. It seemed fishy, so I went back two weeks later and ordered the same thing, except this time pointed to the "beef chunks" on the menu. Lo and Behold, it was STEAK! Same thing as before, only $3 less. Not a very ethical practice, wouldn't you say? Plus, food wasn't really that good. Sauce watery. And pretty skimpy on the "beef chunks". Get one every two bites. read more

I love Mexican food but not here. I ordered a combination plate. One beef toco, one chicken enchilada, rice and beans. I get cold beans, instead of chicken enchilada I get beef (same non seasoned ground beef as the taco). The rice was good as the medium size margarita but the waiter had no idea what the difference was between small, med or large. I'm here for two weeks. Not coming back. read more

Not really Mexican food. Not good either. I've been here a couple of times. The patio is a decent image to sip margaritas if the planes aren't too loud. Food is atrocious. As a native Texan, I recognize good Mexican food as well as good Tex-Mex. This is neither. Instead, it seems to be typical of "East TN born and bred" Mexican. Stale chips. Canned salsa. Packaged tortillas (that we got charged $1.25 for 3 extra ones). Unrecognizable food piled on a plate. No aguas frescas, sopes, gorditas or even a decent mole on the menu. Simply put, not Mexican food. Service is a little lacking too. On our last visit I asked for hot sauce which never arrived and wound up hunting some down myself. Same for a to go box. If you would like actual Mexican food, visit La Lupita in Maryville, or the Green Acres Flea Market on Sunday. If you would like actual Tex-Mex, try Chuys, where chips, salsa and tortillas are home made. read more

Have given this restaurant many chances and I am constantly disappointed. My main issue is the cleanliness of the restaurant and food. I have gotten bugs in my food several times and I have gotten sick after eating there more than once. Today my chips were stale and my entree was not much better. Sticky floors, filthy bathrooms and all staff from door man to our waiter act like they are comatose. I didn't care for the food either. Tortillas were crusty, beans looked like they had been sitting out all day and and the salsa tasted like it came out of a tomato sauce can. We particularly enjoy eating Mexican food while traveling and this restaurant was near our motel. It turned out that it was a sister restaurant to the Pelanchos where we enjoyed a good meal earlier in our trip, in Middlesboro, KY. This time we tried a different choice than that meal and were not disappointed. We also enjoyed the fact that there is outside seating. The only reason we're not giving this review 4 stars is that many of the tables on the outside patio remained uncleared while employees visited by the cash register. We had dinner there tonight and both of us are sick! The tamale was something I've never seen, nothing inside of it, smothered in meat sauce with hard dark chunks of what I don't know! The cheese sauce was very greasy. Rice and beans were definitely from a can. The chips were the worst! Very stale. The enchiladas were tasteless. The one star is for the Cokes, which were great! One of my favorite restaurants. The food is consistently good, prices are very reasonable, the service is almost always good, and it is bright & clean. It's locally-owned, too. There's a nice, covered patio outside, and you can watch the planes take-off an land from the Knoxville airport, just across the street. Lunch is from 11-4, and my reg'l is Comida#1 (chile relleno, taco, guac.salad, & refried beans for $5.99). Many Mexican restaurants in the Knoxville area don't even have chile rellenos, but El Sazon has good ones. The batter is not too heavy & the Anaheim peppers are fresh. I like that you can choose fillings (beef, chicken, pork, beans & cheese) for no add'l charge. I usually have the soft chicken taco. My son's favorite is the Shredded Chicken Nachos ($5.99), which has a generous amount of white chicken meat. They use real cheese, not the cheese sauce that others do. If you want something different, try the Coctel de Camaron, a Mexican-style shrimp cocktail ($9.99). Happy Hour is from 3-7, so if you come between 3-4, you can order off the lunch menu and have the drink specials. Their margaritas are great! read more

This place is by no means the best Mexican restaurant you can find in the Maryville/Alcoa area. I saw the owner the whole time I was eating, and I feel bad because I think in the beginning when the restaurant first started, it was probably very good, but now he's lost control of the place and it's just like any other "fast food" place. The food is decent. I got the Enchiladas Suizas, and the only thing I liked about the actual mean (which came with lettuce, a slice of tomato, mexican rice, salsa, and chips) was the actual enchiladas. Those were very good, but everything else, especially the salsa, was just....not good at all. My main complaint is the service. It was terrible. We were there for about an hour, and our waitress came twice. Once to ask us what we wanted to eat, and the 2nd time to give ask us if we were done. She forgot to give us straws and we had to flag down a person to give us some, and it took forever to get a refill on the chips. Overall this place gets 2 stars because they give you a lot of food for a good price, but it's still not worth it to me, and I won't be back. read more

First off, the food is incredible! I hate that it has come to me writing this. I was visiting my daughters and took them here for dinner last Tuesday as it has always been one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. On Thursday after I returned home to Maryland I checked my account and noticed I had been charged for both the before tip and after tip. I immediately called and spoke to Edgar, the manager. He was extremely nice and said if my account was not credited by Monday to call back and my daughter could stop by and get a cash refund. It has not been put back into my account so I called back and spoke to someone else as he told me Edgar was off today. He basically accused me of lying and said I would need to wait a few more days to get my money back and then hung up on me. I was charged the 56.74 before tip and the 68.74 after tip. It's not about the money, it's the principal that makes me angry and that I was accused of lying. My husband and I will be back in Knoxville to visit in two weeks and we will be getting our 56.74 back and letting them know they lost some business because of how I was treated. read more

Had to go back twice and get my order done right. The tops of the chimichangas are not suppose to come off with the lid and they are suppose to be golden brown and they were white. Asked for double order of beans no rice did not get. second time left rice out of both orders and no extra beans. This is sad there food is usually better than this. The best Mexican place I have ever been to! To start, the costumer service was amazing. Staff was quick, polite, and efficient. The food was to die for! I wanted to go back there again the next day for dinner it was that good. Huge portions plus chips and salsa. The decor was beautiful.
