We came here twice during our week-long stay in Conchas Chinas -- dinner and brunch. We could see this restaurant from our pool deck and Airbnb balcony. From that view, we didn't think much of it. We initially chose it for the convenience, just a couple minutes walk from our place. Dinner: It was a Wednesday night, 8pm reservation. We weren't expecting much more than a quick dinner. Entering the restaurant from the side with the main road, the entrance was quite unremarkable. But when we stepped inside and saw the sunset off in the distance, we were transformed. It was absolutely gorgeous. I snapped a few photos and we were seated at a table providing the same incredible view. We ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees, dessert. All were great and photo worthy. The service was impeccable. The restaurant wasn't busy and they put a lot of attention in taking care and making us feel special. It was wonderful. Brunch: Friday, 10:30am. Same views, same table, same servers, same great service. Different menu, obviously. The brunch wasn't as good as dinner, but still great. Nice menu variety, good coffee. Both experiences were very good and we'll be sure to come again for dinner on a future visit to this area. In fact, we look forward to it. We loved it, and I think you will too. We came to a rehearsal dinner here with family and friends. The setting with ocean view was so beautiful. We arrived just before Sunset so it made all the more special. The food was good and service as well. We had a great time with everyone and enjoyed the beautiful evening. -1star for mixing up orders and forgetting to serve people when the menu was already picked out ahead of time. Finally got to check out this spot and so glad I did. It's a gorgeous place to have a sunset dinner!!!! The food and drinks were great. Service is friendly and THE VIEW is absolutely stunning!!!! Highly recommend the frozen Spicy Margarita and the Mexican Molcajete which is combo beef, chicken, shrimp fajita type dish with molcajete sauce (we'd call it a medium salsa in US) quesadilla, rice, and beans. Great value! Go for the views feels like a tree top restaurant. Whether you want a romantic dinner or just a fun spot with friends, this is a great stop when in PV! read more

A loud place with great staff. They were crazy busy, and stayed so friendly. The food was so great, monstrous serving sizes! It's a tad loud, yes. And so worth it. I liked the virgin drink menu too. Magnificent restaurant in a majestic location. The food is delicious the rice which I normally do not eat was the best I have ever had. The options are limited but well prepared, if your not a fan of the food have a drink and enjoy the view they have 2 for 1 drink specials like most places in the city. But to learn the history of the place from the maître d' was magical in itself. The place is frozen in time and should be a must stop on any trip to Vallarta . read more

We went to try this place as it is next door to the Lindo Mar where we are staying. The food was quite nice. I had the mexican specialty Molcajete - I've never had that before and it was very tasty. Served in what looked like a volcanic "bowl", the sauce was rich with a lot of flavors - a bit on the spicy side but I really liked it. I had the beef version and it had lots of beef and a single piece of sausage, I liked the extra flavor it brought. The roasted cactus was new to me. I like the flavor / texture - sort of what you might expect, a little chewy on the outside and soft on the inside. I made the mistake of trying a very small piece of the roasted pepper and it was very hot. The wife and daughter both had soups - they both enjoyed the flavor. We returned for lunch. The queso fundido with beef is essentially a diy beef quesadilla, very tasty. I had the chicken fajitas, I thought they were also slightly above the crowd in terms of flavor. The wife had the shrimp burrito and it had an odd sweet taste (tartar sauce?) and the coconut ice cream was top notch. Prices are good, location is very nice, service is mixed. While this would easily be four stars other places, we would probably opt to take a taxi and go somewhere else than walk over here a third time. read more

The restaurant itself has good options especially for seafood and your typical drink specials. -open and airy elevated restaurant overlooking the coast -clean restaurant and decent bathrooms -perfect for picture taking and taking it all in while having some yummy food and drinks -4 Stars.~ Overall, I enjoyed El Set. First of all, I can't begin to say enough good things about the location, the service and the exceptional time we had here. Perched perfectly above the beach with the most incredible sunset views you could wish for. The ambiance is lovely, the food very good and the drinks delicious. We booked a private event and truly, words will never begin to express my gratitude for the impeccable service, attention to every little detail and taking every bit of stress out of planning. Liliana was kind, patient and so lovely in arranging all my dreams. When the weather decided to intervene, we never knew. The staff simply adjusted and our party continued. We came here as part of a Princess Cruises shore excursion. El Set is so named as it was the setting for the film Night of the Iguana. The setting overlooking the Puerto Vallarta coastline is beautiful. Worth a stop here just for the view! We did not stay for a full meal, but for refreshments. My wife and I enjoyed tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa. (Note that in Mexico there is a commonly a charge for chips and salsa. Our tablemates ordered fajitas, which were quite different from fajitas served in the USA. I'd definitely want to stay for a full meal. read more

If you want a beautiful view and excellent food this is the place to go. I knew I would love it when I looked through the restaurant and saw the ocean and heard the sound of the waves. The atmosphere is amazing and the drinks were really delicious. The pins colada's were great. We all had Mexican plates with fresh tacos and beans and a guacamole and chips and fresh hot tortillas. The service was very good and the restaurant is tropical looking and spotless. It's such a relaxing atmosphere that we didn't want to leave after we ate lunch. If we lived here I would go there all the time. Try this beautiful restaurant for your next meal. You won't be disappointed. read more

This used to be my favorite place to go but not any more. The owners have clearly become very greedy. They are charging more for half the food they were providing this time last year. Putting a couple of flowers on the dessert does not make it an upscale restaurant. The drinks are smaller and the entrees even smaller . I really felt like I was being ripped off. Puerto Vallarta is becoming a victim of its own success. The margaritas are great but half the size they were last year. I understand inflation but this goes way beyond that. They must think we're all just stupid and will pay any amount. read more

Bunch of con artist. This restaurant has a regular menu for locals with lower prices however when they discover you came to Mexico on a cruise ship you'll be given a different menu with a ship on the front and jacked up prices. Food lacked flavor, drinks sucked, and service was terrible. El Set is a joke. Stay away from this restaurant. read more

The view was great! Sadly the food was just meh, not a lot of flavor and the steak and chicken were over cooked. For the cost the portions were small. The Mexican plate was supposed to come with guacamole, and the waiter said they were out (possibly meant they're making it?), and 5 minutes later we saw several plates go out with huge piles of it on their plates and we were not offered any. I'm also giving a low score because I despise any server that tells me the cost and then makes a remark about adding a good tip on top of that! Located right next to the Lindo Mar Resort, El Set is a convenient dining option for those staying in an Airbnb or a boutique hotel nearby in the hills of Conchas Chinas (like we did). It was nice to grab a bite with a view without having to go north to the downtown spots. Situated just south of the busy districts of Old Town and Zona Romantica, it's a relatively quiet part of town. The restaurant is huge and offers multilevel views of Banderas Bay. We went for lunch and it was not too busy. Maybe we just missed the breakfast crowd. Nevertheless, the quietness of the restaurant plus the gorgeous ocean views made for a peaceful meal. The food menu had the usual suspects. We ordered the guacamole with shrimp and some salad and fruit plates to start. It really hit the spot after a long night of partying. I ordered the burrito and it was good - not the best I've had but it worked. The steak was just a little bit grisly for my liking. I should've went with the shrimp. The quesadillas were delicious, but it takes a lot to mess up a quesadilla. However, everything was fresh and vibrant and that was what was important. All in all, we needed something quick and nearby and El Set checked both boxes. We literally walked down the hill and we were there. Plus, it was on the way to the beach so it was a no brainer. A bonus, as we were leaving, our server noticed that we were all wearing swimsuits and carrying beach towels, so he showed us a secret passage of stairs that led directly down to the beach below. We were planning on rolling down the hill, but this made it much easier. read more

One of the most gorgeous romantic ocean and sunset dining views in all of Vallarta! I enjoyed the delectable garlic toast they served us as well as a stuffed vegetable Mexican chicken dish with mashed potatoes and a scrumptious chocolate cake for dessert! Was heavenly sipping spicy blended jalapeño margaritas to live music under a beautiful orange pink sunset! One of the highlights of my visit. Great service as well. Highly recommend. read more

Food was good, great looking place. Waiter was a little pushy for us to leave. Being that it was closing time. Food was a little expensive for the amount we got. I had the NY steak, it was tender and cooked right with a great sauce but pretty small, maybe 6-8 oz. Live music was pretty poor, singing from a karaoke machine and an iPod, it was entertaining for the fact it was so terrible. Margaritas were not blended so ask ahead of time. Overall ok but wish that waiter would of kick rocks during dinner, after I asked. read more

If you want an amazing view and a beautiful sunset while you enjoy your meal then yes, a million times come here. When it comes to the food, it's ehh ok. A little on the pricey side and there are some things that would taste way better at a hole in the wall place downtown. But I guess it wasn't too bad. View is beautiful. Service was slow. The head waiter was very nice, the Jr one was noticeably green. The food was a disaster; ordered medium rare steak&lamb, steak arrived well-done and the lamb raw (sent back). Second steak and lamb both were raw. At this point we cut our losses and were ready to leave. They didn't charge us for the food. Would recommend you stick to the salads if you really want to experience the view. I've been vacationing in Puerto Vallarta for a week now, and this place is the most expensive restaurant I've eaten at so far. I won't say that the food was not good, it was. However, i don't think it was worth the price. The best thing about this place is the incredible and magnificent view. No other restaurant can top this view. It made the food taste better. But again, I wasn't very hungry so I was willing to let this one go. I didn't make a big deal out of the fact that it took almost 45 minutes to get the food. The food was okay. It's nice that you get 2 lobsters, some shrimp, and a filet mignon but it's overpriced. The lobster was over cooked. The steak was overcooked. The only good thing about this place is the view. I had a coupon from my hotel and they overcharged us the concierge was very upset that they did that to us because we are foreigners and young. That's really unethical for a business. On top of that the guy who was our waiter came up to us and requested more tip and he made a big deal about it. Never in my lifetime has that ever happened to me! The concierge was also very upset about that because honestly who does that! We went for a birthday dinner and it completely turned us off!
