I will say you certainly do not come here for authentic Mexican food. I got the Queso Fundido (pictured) and it honestly didn't have the "cheese pull" you'd expect Queso to have it was mostly salsa verde. The tacos were also pretty good but nothing special. What really makes this place is the Margs SO GOOD you can't go wrong with any of them. This place has been getting such good reviews that I decided I needed to try it out. The vibes are awesome! There is so much space and tables that it could be easy to come with a bunch of friends. Now for the margaritas, something was off about it - I'm not sure if it was an off-night. Perhaps it was bad limes. But we tried to fix it by adding water and lime juice - but it still tasted very strange. We ended up leaving half of the pitcher and noticed other tables did not finish their pitchers or margaritas either. The place definitely has potential to be a popular spot - but for now it may not be a place that I will visit soon. read more

First off - this place is a bit hard to find - as in you should know it is in the rooftop of a hotel. I came here for a work function. There are many things I loved about this place. 1. namely the super fun Mez-Cal drinks. 2. I was also a huge fan of the setup with a view of Philadelphia and center-city via the roof top. 3. Be prepared though - unlike most Mexican food places that have insanely gigantic serving sizes, the serving sizes here are actually rather European. They are all delightful though - but not the traditional Mexican food you might be used to. Think of if Mexican food was done by a French-trained chef. 4. The service was wow - just so helpful and friendly - and happy to explain things. The reason this place didn't get 5 stars is due to limited selection of alcohol. I totally get that this is a Mexican themed place, but they didn't have generic things that were slightly not Mexican (i.e. bubbly wines - I would imagine you would want that to mix into drinks). This rooftop bar is located inside the Condesa hotel. It has a great ambiance, modern, open, with beautiful views of the city. We arrived there around 11. They close early, 12AM, but the bar wasn't too busy anyway. You order everything online and someone brings out your drinks. Wish they had other drink items on the menu, but I'm happy if there's wine. We came here for dinner. This restaurant is located on the roof of a hotel and it has a retractable ceiling and windows so I think it will be perfect for any weather. I think this is a perfect place for drinks and hanging out. For this reason I give it three stars. I don't think the tacos were that great. They are edible but if you are actually craving good tacos I would suggest going someplace else. I really think the selling point of this restaurant is the environment and the drinks. I'm gonna start off by saying wow. The view is the gimmick for the place. The views from the one side were the savor. Different way off ordering, it was fast. As I go into the place I already had high expectations, it's Philly and it's a roof top spot. There are to reservations, it would have helped but, if there were no reservations were they just letting there friends in? It's an odd place, we stood in a corner for about an hour or so waiting for a seat, at the bar or a table. People can up and what seemed to be seated right away, one guy at the bar asked my wife did she want to sit, that's about it. Then we put our name on the iPad for a seat after the first 5 mins, real stop watch 5 mins. You had to scan the QR code to see the menu, that's cool right, wrong it was a pain to use because we didn't know how to work it and no one explained it. They just said scan and order there. The food did come quick, we had tasteless guacamole with chips, the drinks were not good like they were harsh to drink. It took so long to get water, I don't think I remember or I am trying to forget but water was not on the menu so that was kinda hard to get, o and we had 3 popsicles PALETAS POPSICLES Blueberry Mint, Hibiscus Pineapple, Caramel Sea Salt Chocolate naaaa that was not the move. They looked cool, melted way fast. You only get the popsicle not anything else. It seemed like someone had a lot of money and expected everything else to be fall into place, that was far off. The view was the only reason for being there and we barley got to see that. This is how not to have a roof top bar. Hey it's like everyone had to get drunk as hell to enjoy there time or they left. A 3% kitchen fee added to the check? What is that? First time I've ever seen that. Isn't that what a tip is for? Tips can be chosen to shared with the kitchen. I didn't realize that was the case until I looked at the bill when I got home. Not that I necessarily minded giving an extra $3 to the kitchen but just found it to be tacky and a money grab when i had already decided to leave an 18 percent tip to order off a QR code. One type of marg at a Mexican restaurant? And the only option to customize is salt or no salt and to make it spicy for a dollar more. Had a super weird experience here last season. We waited a few minutes to check in with a host after getting of the elevator but went to the bar when no one showed up. We grabbed drinks which took forever and saw in open table. We asked a server if we could take a seat there and she said yes. So we ordered food and were eating when a manager came over to tell us very rudely that we could not sit there and the tables were reserved. We gathered our food and awkwardly stood up while trying to finish the rest of it. We explained to the manager that we had made sure it was ok to sit down with the server and his response was "never ask a server, always check with the host." As if we were supposed to automatically know how their restaurant works. We told him that we waiting for a host for several minutes, and even pointed out that in that moment there was no one at the host stand. He ended up sending us a free round of drinks, which frankly we didn't want at that point and were just trying to leave- and he never apologized for his hostility. I am a huge fan of La Condesa downstairs so had high hopes for El Techo but it fell extremely flat. Just about everyone I talk to who has been here also mention the terrible and service- can safely say I will not be returning and will stick to La Condesa. read more

I was greeted by the host who led us past several tables (many of which were open) to a 2 top at the very end of the room. We were literally sat in the last corner table, and we couldn't help but notice that all four tables next to us were sat with BIPOC guests. We pointed this out to the host who said it was NOT intentional. We couldn't help but feel as though it was. In fact, ALL of the BiPOC people (with the exception of one at the bar,) were seated in this one section of the restaurant. We asked the host if we could move to one of the empty tables in a more preferred area of the restaurant, but she told us she couldn't. Those seats were reserved for larger parties. We decided not to bother with a fuss, and as we were enjoying our cocktails and delicious food, the other diners next to us agreed that it very much felt like the "BIPOC" section of the restaurant. We watched as all of the other available tables either sat empty during our tenure or were filled once we were finished with our meal. It was an overall good time, but unfortunately it was marred by the unfortunate seating arrangements. read more

El Techo is on the 11th floor of the Pod Hotel in Center City. I ate at Condesa (on the 1st floor) before making my way up to El Techo. I was excited to check this place out after seeing all the beautiful photos and because there's not many rooftop bars in Philly. My first impression was that it didn't look like the photos. The place is pretty small and definitely has that hotel bar vibe. The bar itself is small and has maybe 15 chairs or so. There's also a lounge area with small tables and couches where you can sit at to drink or eat. The drink and app menu doesn't have a lot of options. I ordered the "Frozen Dos" drink and wasn't impressed for $13. The decor was really nice and the space felt cozy, chic and modern. The retractable roof was closed because it's winter but I thought it would at least be see-through. When you look up, the roof is covered and you can't even see the sky. That was deceiving because El Techo has been advertised as an all year round rooftop bar but it definitely isn't. There's also only one side of the bar with glass windows where you can see the city. There's tables alongside the glass windows so unless you get to sit there, you won't be seeing the city. This "rooftop" bar might be nice when it's warm out but it's just another bar when the roof is covered. This place is loud. I get that it's a bar but the music is way too loud that I could barely hear my friend. I only went here because I wanted to try Condesa. At both places I felt like I was on a business trip and just wanted to eat/drink at the hotel I was staying at because it's convenient. Between the lack of a "rooftop" and the hotel-y vibe, I would skip this place. read more

I went here for the first with my brother it was his treat. We were greeted by a nice gentleman which guide us to the elevator, he pushed the button for the eleventh floor to the enclosed roof top was.Once there we ck out the view it was ok,once seated we asked for a drink that was on the menu,the waiter stated the were out of certain liquor, we ordered whiskey with ginger ale and was told they didn't have ginger ale,mind you they had been open for just an hr.The food selection was very smal and it was only tacos that's all not a great selection.My brother asked for the fried pork rinds and guacamole, when it arrived it was the dry pork rings that you buy at the grocery store,it wasn't what we expected luckily the guacamole was good.Overall I gave it a two star because the waiter was nice and the place is nice,a little pricey for selection of food that they have,but I guess that's the price you pay for dinning downtown.I wish i had taken fotos. I've never left a review for a restaurant but the horrible experience I had with the staff at El Techo warranted a warning to anyone else interested in this spot. I made a reservation for four on a Friday night on Resy days in advance We arrive at the reservation time and am promptly told they don't take reservations on Friday night. If that is the case, then why was I able to make a reservation and why did I get multiple email/text confirmations from Resy? I showed the reservation on my phone to multiple staff members at the hostess stand and was met with the most confrontational and rude attitudes I have ever experienced. How about APOLOGIZING for the mixup YOU are responsible for instead of being rude to someone who is trying to give you service? They ended up shuffling us upstairs to leave their upstairs hostesses to figure it out. I want to say, Gabe and the lady upstairs were very nice and given no background, were trying to seat us as quickly as possible. This review is being written for the downstairs staff. How any of them have jobs in the service industry, is beyond me. We waited for an hour and ended up leaving before being able to be sat. I guess if you don't allow reservations.... Then your restaurant should work with Resy on taking the option down? And I don't know, work on not talking to customers like they're trash? Awesome place! We came here after our first brunch spot to continue festivities and el Techo was the perfect level up! It's located on the 11th floor of the condesa. Shorter rooftop experience but it still has a great view and the drinks that come with it make it ever better! The music was great and it filled up fast on a Saturday when we got there a little after it was opened! Cute cute rooftop bar! Be warned it's kindof confusing to find from the street... you enter a mexican restaurant called Condesa, and take the elevators up to the rooftop deck. Frankly I wasn't looking at the views which some other reviewers have mentioned aren't great, but I was really enjoying the atmosphere with string lights all across the seating area. Drinks were good and you just open a tab on your phone so ordering was super fast and really easy to pay with friends and order more as we went. Also, the bathroom was very nice (cute & clean).
