I have a 2007 Prius and, on our way downtown on the 5, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with all sorts of scary warning lights. Terrified of having to spend thousands on a new battery, I called a dealership and a repair shop but no one could see me/estimates were scary. The next morning, I checked Yelp and called Jacob and he said he could be at my house that afternoon. He asked a few questions about what my car had been doing and he knew right away what was wrong. He arrived at my house exactly when he said (and he checked in earlier to make sure the timing worked for me) and ran a diagnostic to see what the car needed. He was dead on with his prediction! He was trained and worked at his family's shop for the last several years before deciding to start doing this on his own. I'm so glad he did! He answered my questions about battery life and new vs used parts and was thorough in explaining it to me. He knows his stuff. We needed a new inverter pump for the car and he called about a new one on speaker right there with me so I could hear exactly what the part was costing him. My Prius had several issues: * a few bad cells in the Hybrid Battery were bad * the MFD display which constantly had Identity issues blinking from Lexus to Prius on the screen, (this was a problem as you can not use the AC, Radio or any energy conservation screens.) * The car also threw up a 420 Code. The car had been sitting for more than a year when I decided to get it running for my son to drive. Every check engine and warning Light was on. Additionally the car was accelerating slowly. I put a scanner on it and got all the codes. I then took the car to a mechanic I had used in the past and felt he would be fair. He hit me with a 159.00 evaluation charge minimum. I told them please don't worry about the Battery or Cat codes as I have a plan to fix those. I just need him to help with the slow acceleration. They called me back in about 10 mins and told me they needed to change the Cat for 3500 + Labor, then change the Battery and they had a special and could do that for 2500 + labor. They also told me the key Fuab Transmitter was failing that all these things were contributing to the very slow acceleration. so let me recap- I was supposed to pay almost 7000 for a car with 282K miles. The car is not worth half that amount. I guess I must be really stupid, because I had no idea a Key Fuab Transmitter had anything to do with acceleration. ( FYI it does not) I drove the car to my Office in DownTown Los Angeles, thinking I would be able to find an affordable mechanic with experience with hybrids easier than in my home town of Simi Valley. I started my homework and came across Jacob. Most of his reviews were 5 stars but a few were rating him low I was concerned, but enough rated him high and the lower ratings seemed to have no similarities to my situation. I called Jacob explained my situation and told him I did not want to spend a fortune on this car. I was prepared to drive my car to him, but he told me he is a mobile mechanic, he would come to me. He came to my Office and had my car up and running within an hour and a half. His price was considerably less then the other quotes and he was very nice, friendly and clean. I watched him work for a while and he had the battey out and changed in about 20 mins. He certainly seemed to know what he was doing and it seemed like he had done this many times before. I would call him again. I also reffed my friend to him to work on his Prius. I think if you own a Prius you get screwed. Not every knows how to work on them, some are just afraid and refuse to touch them, there are some who do know what they are doing but they seem to want to charge like they are doing brain surgery. He came 2 me and checked the computer codes which said it wasn't the battery. He told me to put 2 gallons of gas (even though the gas gauge had 2 bars) and reset the hybrid battery. Terrible. Please stay away. I dropped my car to Jacobs house and he was supposed to call me the next day with it. Disappeared for an entire week, wouldn't pick up his phone or respond to texts. Finally I had to go to his home and speak to his family. They apologized and he was still gone with the keys. The next day he calls and says he fixed it and will drop it off. Of course he did not and when I went to pick up the car he had just "cleared the codes" like he did when he came to see the car the first time. Please don't trust. I'm sure he's a good mechanic as he's gotten good reviews and the dealer who sold me my car used to use him exclusively, but in the past month or so things have gotten bad. Let him fix your car and best case scenario he'll take your money and clear the codes. Worst case he'll take your car and disappear. My 2005 Prius high voltage battery finally died at 208k miles. Finally two separate mechanic visits and a wasted couple hundred bucks later, my vehicle prognosis wasn't any better; I thought I was gonna have to bite the bullet and allow Toyota dealership charge me and arm and leg--Toyota mechanics wanted to charge me $4,500.00. Jacob fixed my mom's car in under 30 mins! She owns a 2006 PRIUS w/ almost 114k miles. The warning lights came on when she was driving it home from work & the air vent went off like crazy. I got a free check engine light from O'Reily's & learned that the battery was weak. So we called Toyota & they wanted $2,500 to replace the whole battery (not including labor which was an additional $900). Other mechanics also charged around $2k. Great service! He came today to get the cooling fan cleaned for the hybrid Prius. The exciting thing was I could watch while Jacob was cleaning the fan. I learned a bit more about the interior set up of my Prius: good learning exercise :) He also showed me how dirty the fan was, it was all done in about 30 minutes. I am glad that Jacob came. after getting my failed smog I got an ibd2 and it told me to change the whole battery. I was scared because I thought it meant the whole battery. after I saw an ad for a hybrid battery rebuild me and my dad called Jacob was within hours of the call he is a mobile service as well he can come to you. The process will take 30 minutes to an hour tops he knows how to open a car fast and if you are lucky he will show you where everything is (if you are interested in that type of stuff). Jacob rocks! I tried contacting three different devices through Yelp and he replied immediately. My 2012 Prius was dead in my driveway in Riverside. I called on Friday morning hoping that he could come over first thing Saturday and he quickly agreed. He called first to say he was on his way with his eta of 8 am. He was exactly on time! He quickly did a jump but it didn't charge. He was very clear in explaining everything to us as he worked. So he then showed us the 12-volt battery in the trunk and explained that it needed to be replaced. A new one from a local retail place would cost $199 (he made the call standing next to us). He had a used one he sold us for $80 and gave us the same 1-year warranty. He was done with everything within 30 minutes. A very pleasant, professional, and enterprising young man.
