While scrolling on Instagram, I came across a post about Electrica Coffee in NW Portland closing at the end of January 2026. I'd only ever heard good things about Electrica PDX, so I hopped in my car and went to grab a cup while I still could. Located in NW Portland inside the historic School House Electric & Supply Co. building, the space immediately stands out. High ceilings, an open layout, communal tables, and beautiful hardwood floors make it feel both airy and inviting. Since it was my first visit, I ordered the Electrica signature drink--the Saikuo Latte with whole milk. Simply delicious. Smooth, balanced, and memorable. If you're reading this in January 2026: go now. Run. You won't be disappointed. It's sad to see them closing. I would have loved to add Electrica to my list of top café spots in PDX. Stopped by for a quick afternoon tea after an open studio in the area and got their special because I saw multiple people walking out with it and it looked delicious , a strawberry matcha! Friendly and helpful baristas and in such a cute location, it seemed like the perfect place to sit and work! Although they were out by the time I had gotten in, I did see that they also carry HeyDay donuts which is very exciting to see after their storefront unfortunately closed earlier this year and I would love to be back when they are popping up at this location again! read more

I did a coffee crawl during my week visit in Portland and I had many baristas and locals recommend Electrica as a coffee shop to visit. It was across town on the edge of town but it was worth the drive! Electrica has a really cool vibe inside. The area is spacious with a lot of tables and seating for people to meet and study. The building is old and made out of brick which adds a rustic vibe with the dim lighting. I ordered a speciality latte with Juniper Berry and Bay leaf. After trying many speciality lattes in Portland, this one didn't really stand out to me although the ingredients were unique and I've never had a latte with bay leaves in it. I pushed some push x pull beans that they had for sale because I like drinking coffee at home and wanted to bring some beans back. Cute coffee shop on the industrial end of NW. Electrica leans toward Japanese inspired flavors, including saikyo miso caramel, black sesame and hojicha flavors. I got the saikyo miso latte and it was the perfect blend of espresso with a slightly sweet but not too sweet flavor. They seem to do pretty frequent pop ups to keep things interesting. 100% recommend this business! I first found out about Electric Coffee from instagram when I was browsing the best coffee shops in Portland. Located in an industrial neighborhood (literally in an Electrical Supply building) you will have to pay close attention to scoping out where this is. There is usually a little easel with Electrica Coffee on it. To my surprise, it is MORE than a little coffee company in an industrial building. There is also a home decor company to your right which sells some pretty cool things and a large, open shared work space area to study/work. I ordered the Miso Caramel Sesame Latte which was amazing. You can never go wrong with the salty/sweet combo. The drink itself has inspired me to use miso caramel when baking desserts. read more

Cool Spot, Decent Drinks, Pricey but Nice Vibes Drinks -My mom got the Chocolate Hojicha, and she really liked it. She's said it had a stronger, earthier taste kind of like matcha's bolder cousin. I went for their Saikaya Latte since they're known for it. It was good, but I wouldn't say it tasted like the "salted caramel" they described. It was more on the subtle side, definitely not a sweet latte. Solid 7/10, but nothing mind-blowing. Atmosphere & Vibes The space is super aesthetic, cozy, and they play great music. It's connected to this high-end home showroom. Parking & Location Parking wasn't too bad, which was nice. The shop is near the Willamette River, so if you're in the mood for a little walk after, the views are so pretty! I've been coming to this location for the better part of a decade - first when it was Ristretto Roasters, then Prince, and now Electrica (each is a different company with different owners/staff). Electrica is by far the best cafe to land here - and arguably one of the best in town. The matcha and coffee are premium and well-prepared. The crew is small but mighty, working speedily during the busy spurts, while aiming for quality in the drinks they create. The treats are dangerously delish too. My guess, after years of observing, is that many customers think this is simply an open lobby to Schoolhouse Electric, and therefore purchasing a drink is not compulsory. However, it's indeed a separate small business with hours that don't always coincide with Schoolhouse, and therefore the 2-hour seat limit is understandable. They need to turn over seats because.. they're a business! Great ambiance for studying, working and meeting up with friends. read more

A beautifully clean, airy, and comfortable industrial space. It's modern and cozy-a great place to sit and read solo, or come chat with a friend. Service is friendly and everything feels curated with great attention to detail. Pour over menu is extensive. I had coffee (they have fun fusion lattes to explore), and will want to come back to make my way through their equally extensive tea menu. Food is limited to a few mochi sweet pastries-I wouldn't have minded a bit more selection. The stoneware elevates the drinking experience. I went with a signature pour-over coffee and it was one of the best ones I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, not acidic at all, and some of the most dynamic flavors I've had in a cup of coffee. The space is industrial, stylish and chill. It's not crowded and since it's inside Schoolhouse Electric, you can peruse a bit while you're well-caffeinated. I needed somewhere to study today and after seeing photos of Electrica online I thought it looked like a nice spot to get some work done. I didn't realize this before I got here but it seems they specialize in green tea and matcha drinks. There was only one barista working at the time but he was super friendly. He enthusiastically explained what all the drinks were which I really appreciated. Some cons- they were out of coffee when I came lol. I thought this was a bit odd because they are a coffee shop. But that was fine I decided to get a green tea. It was good, you could tell it was high quality. But 4$ for a tiny little cup was a bit ridiculous. At the end of the day, this spot has great ambiance and I'm sure if you're into matcha this would be a good place for you. I personally wouldn't recommend though. read more

Love the space! Their coffee and tea drinks are delish as well. Special shoutout to the Seikyo Latte. The savoriness and saltiness of the miso worked so well in the coffee! Do not let the rice flour ingredients fool you I honestly wanted to eat two of those little donuts. this is definitely a place I would come and hang out if I was looking for something more intimate being that it's in the industrial area. Honestly love this place from the atmosphere to the drinks to the wonderful service. I've dropped by a couple of times and hope to return at least a handful more in the near future. First time I drove up, I was not prepared for the unique corner where this coffee spot is nestled. Parking nearby was a bit of a bust but I took a side street hike and just ended up walking a bit. The 2nd time a spot opened up right in front so woohoo! I walked right in and was immediately hit with how cute this spot was - the coffee bar in itself is pretty charming but the Schoolhouse Electric Co Supply items and plants and furniture are amazing as well. I usually gravitate towards the matcha latte, but the coffee is solid as well. I am dying to try the saikyo latte next time since it sounds pretty amazing. I was able to slide in during their bday drink specials so I did get my fave fave fave which is a strawberry match -- of course, given that description you know I loved it. I also love their pastry case with mochi donuts and brownies and other little baked goods. All in all, I adore this spot and hope to swing by more frequently in the future. Short staffed it seemed? The one gal working was not friendly, and if they were short staffed I understand the stress of taking orders and preparing orders while having a line of customers. The vegan donuts did not taste like their "flavor" and were simply just sweet. The drinks were lukewarm and just ok. Located inside the Schoolhouse, there is a dedicated section of cafe and seats that constitute this establishment. The standout of this place is their Saikyo Latte, which is a miso coconut caramel with black sesame on top, and the latte art is great and the drink is interesting as it has a bit of savory notes. I got the 12 oz as oppsed to 8 oz which is just a 50 cent surcharge, and choosing oat milk does not cost extra, so I opted for that. $6.50 for the latte is a fair price for the uniqueness especially because there is no sales tax. read more

That's some unusual coffee but I will take it . Gladly ! At the edge of the industrial district of Northwest Portland, Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. is a Portland staple filled with modern heirlooms. The brick building contains a showroom and that's where this amazing cultural explosion of flavors also occupies a space. The eclectic pairing of Mexican coffee with Japanese tea is something that no one else in the city does . The coffee is from Reforma Roasters, and they partnered with Yugen for their tea, a popular Kyoto-based specialty tea company. The ambience is relaxed and there is certainly a feeling of the space being not fully utilized with a lot of empty space or perhaps that's the vibe they are going for . There is also very apt drinkware to go with the beverages . I appreciated my saikyo latte which had the subtle saltiness from the miso but the caramel certainly kept it a sweeter beverage . My only feedback would be that it wasn't hot at all , Luke warm at best . The Mochi matcha donut was unique in texture but delivered on flavor . It came across very dense and extremely sweet .I wouldn't probably get its again but I can see it would be a hit with customers who appreciate something on the more sweeter side . Great coffee shop tucked away in the Schoolhouse Electric Supply Co building. I've been wanting to visit this cafe ever since I heard about their unique menu of Japanese and Mexican inspired cafe drinks. The inside is quite spacious with plenty of seating. The counter service is to the immediate right as soon as you walk in from the main entrance. We ordered a couple of Saikyo Lattes which uses a miso caramel as the sweetener. I also wanted to get some Mexican pastries after trying some from Matutina but they were all out. The latte was pretty good, you can definitely taste the nuttiness in the caramel from the miso, it gave the drink a well rounded, full bodied flavor. What a gem!!! I live around the area and it's a shame that there aren't a lot of coffee shops that are a walking-distance. I'm always on the lookout for coffee shops with delicious lattes and plenty of spacious tables (with nearby plugs for my laptop), so I can take my work out of my home office. I'm so glad to have found Electrica Coffee! It was the perfect spot to walk my dog over and work at for the day. This is probably going to be my FAVORITE COFFEE SHOP to work at when I need a little change of scenery from working at home. I went early on a Sunday morning and stayed until about noon. It did get a little crowded and noisy around 10 AM, but I don't blame them. It's gonna be hard to keep this place a secret cause it's the best! Noise levels/crowds during the weekdays might be a different story, I'll have to come back and find out myself. The ambience and interiors are to die for. I was swooning over it and taking in inspo the entire time - it's definitely my vibe. Can also browse and shop at Schoolhouse Electric if I need a little break. I ordered the MATCHA LATTE and was pleased and grateful to know that they didn't charge extra for oat milk - this is the only coffee shop I know that does this. The matcha latte was delicious and not sweet, just how I like it. The bartender was also nice enough to offer us this caffeine-free BLUE MATCHA to try for free. Electrica is such a cute coffee shop! It's got such a nice open, airy space and wasn't too busy when I went on a Friday afternoon! It's pretty quiet, so I feel like it'd be a nice place to sit down and read or do some work. I got their hojicha latte, and it was great! I opted for no simple syrup, so I could really taste the hojicha flavor, and hojicha is very low in caffeine if you're looking for a low-caf drink for the afternoon! We also got the rice flour donuts, which were okay. I think we were expecting mochi donuts (but that was our own mistake), so it wasn't quite what we were looking for. read more

This is a great space, in terms of the right place, with wide open floor plan for meet ups or work meetings makes it ideal. Having said that, don't sleep on their amazing matcha and pour over coffee options. No extra charge for oat milk ! Magical hidden gem! I feel so lucky to have found this amazing place. The space is beautiful, open, has brick accents, plants, large windows, and plenty of space to come and study or do some work. There is both indoor and outdoor seating that is covered. The staff was very friendly and prompt. There was a wide variety of beverages and pan dulces. I had the Hojicha Latte with oat milk, it was absolutely incredible. Rich caramel flavors and wasn't too sweet. Such a cute coffee shop! The ambience is very chic with tons of lighting. You can walk through this shop to an apothecary store next door and shop around while you sip your coffee. The menu was interesting with Japanese themed coffees. We tried the Saikyo Latte and absolutely loved it. We also tried the Ube and Matcha rice flour donuts and they were very chewy and weird. Tried my hardest not to chug my coffee . I stayed for a few . The barista who took my order was super kind, helpful , and patient! Everything was perfect... except for a tiny little sign on the counter that said you can only stay for an hour or two . I don't remember which but it threw me off and I felt rushed to finish what I needed on my work and leave . I'm sure the lady would not have kicked me out if I stayed longer but . The sign was just idk pushy ‍ other than that it was a beautifully designed place inside and out . Located in Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co, Electrica is an entire contemporary industrial vibe. Brick walls, tall ceilings, high beams, modern art, wooden tables, metal chairs - I love it. Electrica is unique in that its drinks are Japanese influenced. While they have some of their staple drinks (cafecito, con leche, espresso), they also have some specialty lattes (miso caramel) and matcha (earl grey blue matcha). They also feature delicious pastries from Matutina (conchas and various Mexican pastries which are absolutely delicious)! There is plenty of seating - perfect for working from home or studying. Electrica is an absolute gem in NW Portland and as much as I want to gate-keep this place, they deserve all the love. Cafes like this are the reason I keep "readjusting" my coffee budget each month.
