Cupcakes are not worth 3.75 a piece. I bought a dozen and the tops were mushy like they had been refrigerated for a few days. They were regular sized as well, not big at all. Needless to say, they are way overpriced. Should be no more than $2 a cupcake or make them fresh so customers can get their money's worth. I love that the empanadas and buchi buchi are fried to order, which takes 15 minutes but well worth the wait. I got a little of everything - cookies, cupcakes (guava & taro), and a whole taro cake. When my husband picked up the box he asked, is there a cake in here? I knew that was a bad sign but couldn't return it because I had them write on it. December 21st, I left the office in a hurry... desperate to find the perfect birthday gift for my sister. What do you get for the person who already has everything? What's something that she could not buy for herself, yet be something that I could afford? Wham! It hit me in the face like one of Dwight Howard's flying elbows, worthy of a flagrant foul! I'm going to get my sister a real birthday cake! A cake with effort and thought. A cake that required more than driving to some place on the day of. I wanted to get her a cake that she would remember forever. I perused cakes on Yelp, and tried to find a place that was close enough to my home and seemed like they'd be open during the holidays. There I found, Elite Bakery and their much acclaimed guava chiffon cakes. I agreed in my mind to set aside $300 for the most spectacular birthday cake, and quickly drove to Elite Bakery. When I arrived, there was a queue of people waiting to purchase baked goods. I finally got to the register and said I wanted to order a cake. Never having ordered a custom cake before, I had lots of questions, and finally the poor girl behind the counter, overwhelmed by my flux of questions, brought the owner/manager to come speak to me about my cake. The process took about 10 minutes to order my cake, which must have seemed like an eternity to her because they were so busy. She offered me a standard themed design from one of their catalogs but those cakes seemed to cater to children. I asked about multi-tier, fondant, and custom designs. I certainly hinted that I was willing to drop a bit more for an exquisite cake. Unfortunately, there needs to be a 14 day advanced order for cakes that require any customization or fanciness, and she informed me that a cake of that magnitude would not be ready by the 30th due to all the other orders. I ended up placing an order for a ¼ sheet guava chiffon cake, which had a photo printed on rice paper. I tried to get as many add-ons as possible to get the most aesthetically pleasing cake I could on such short notice, but there was nothing much else they could do for me. I was even talked into getting a standard icing instead of something like cream cheese frosting which would have set me back another $25 or so. I guess I'm glad that the woman who helped me didn't gouge me or overpromise and under deliver. I can respect that. The 30th arrived and I was able to pick up my cake without any trouble. It came just as advertised. I presented the cake to my sister and our dinner guests, and 25 people enjoyed cake with some left overs as well. The chiffon was light and fluffy which everyone enjoyed. I was expecting a bit more flavor to the cake and the icing, and I think the guava flavor only came from the guava filling between the layers. The guava was not evenly spread out within the cake, so some slices didn't have any of the guava filling at all. Overall the cake was okay. If I need a custom cake for about $60 or so, I would certainly come back here. But I may try another bakery the next time I'm in need of an absolutely stunning cake. I paid about $67 for everything out the door, which is a lot less than the $300 I was looking to spend. I'll have to remember this year to place my order on the 1st of December, and not cut it so close next time. read more

It's great to find Chamorro / Guamanian desserts in the Bay Area. You're greeted with a beautiful Latte Stone mural on the outside of the building. Once you're inside your eyes are immediately drawn to the case full of deliciously tempting goodies. And the owners are super-friendly they make you feel like part of the family.
