We recently held a funeral reception here and I couldn't be more pleased. The manager, was very compassionate and went out of his way to accommodate us. Our server, Tara was wonderful. The food was delicious. Several of my family approached me to say I made a great choice and that they planned to come back for dinner in the future. Elma grille is usually a fairly busy establishment. I been here a time or two so again I decided to go. The food is good but I only had a burger so I can't give it a tremendous wow factor but it's bigger than most places! Dishes I had before like the goulash where good and try finding that on a menu anywhere! A star for that alone! The service is pretty decent too. And if your looking for the bar try the middle floor. I had driven by this place numerous times ,, but never stopped, what mistake that was ! Went last night for dinner , walked in very nice , clean dining area , nicely decorated ( small bar area separate from dining ) seated quickly , other than waitress seeming with no personality and more like we were taking up her time . She disappeared for few minutes before we ordered , wondering where she went ,, finally we ordered , friend mine ordered the beef on weck platter which was one best tasting they've had , in awhile ,, and I had the French onion soup which was perfect , not too salty . I have never gone for a fish fry that is served in 5 minutes, literally. Ordered the Fisherman's platter, fish, shrimp and scallops, fries and macaroni salad and Cole slaw. Placed an order online through the website, paid for the order using a credit card. Went to pick up food, walked in and there was a small table of prepared orders with names on the containers. Since the order was paid for I grabbed my order and walked out the door. When I got to my car, a man came running out to my car and asked me if I paid for the order. I stated yes, that I had ordered it online and prepaid for it. His response was "well you don't just take food and walk out". I was confused by this as there was no one standing at the entrance when I walked in, so I didn't think I had to be "cashed out" for an order than was already paid for. I called the restaurant back after clearing this up and asked to speak with the manager. The manager on the phone was extremely condescending and essentially repeated what the first employee said to me, in the same demeaning tone. I can understand the fact that I probably should have waited at the entrance a bit longer and double checked with an employee before leaving...I take full responsibility for that. But for a loyal customer who has visited this restaurant for years with my family I was shocked to be treated this way. A simple "just so you know for the future, we have to verify orders before customers take them" would have been fine. "Well you don't just take food and walk out" is not the way an employee and especially a manager should speak to a customer. If this had just been said by the employee I would understand...employees make mistakes, a lot of younger people (like the man who said this to me) are newer to the working industry and haven't perfected their communication skills yet. But for the exact same rude comment to be repeated to me by a manager in a nasty tone goes to show that this establishment employees people who should not be in the customer service industry. Sadly, my recent dinner here with my significant other was pretty unacceptable. I ordered the fish fry which has ALWAYS been great. This visit, I received one which tasted like it was spoiled or just old. The salads were also not very good. After spending awhile trying to find our waitress we explained this concern. She seemed put off by this news, and said she would take it off the bill. Asked if I wanted anything else, and I asked for an order of fries (which are always good). I ended up being charged for those, interestingly. A short while later the waitress came back with the bill, and not a single apology of any kind for this lackluster meal was offered. Was there with some friends on a weeknite. Friends ordered fast-food type. I decided on a turkey dinner......big mistake! Mashed potatoes where tasteless, and the worst part was the turkey. Hidden under a ton of gravy were "slices" of burnt turkey. Looked like they were thrown on the grill and forgotten. When I told the waitress, she said in a tone "well I asked everyone how their meal was and you said OK" I replied that I just about took one bite of my meal. I told her " Look at this turkey, it's hard and burnt". She asked me if I wanted something else, but at that point everyone was finished with their food. They have very large portions and a large selection of choices it is a good to place to hang out in the bar area with quick draw and many beer selections with reasonable pricing and many TVs to watch a game. I wonder if trimming the choices down on the uninspired bar/old folks' home menu might improve the quality. But the atmosphere is very cozy and comforting, so that notches it up a star to two. We went there on a Saturday night at about 7pm...There was hardly anyone in the joint...There were 3 other tables besides us..... First thing I noticed when we were taken to our booth was the food all the over the seat that the server had swept off the table, and left there....So I guess it was my job for the night....There was also some food crumbs still on our table....As we sat I could see a couple near me speaking to a manager who was apologizing to them....After the manager left the couple was shaking their heads in a negative way.....Uh oh, maybe not a good start here..... I got a dinner salad, and crab cake quesadilla....The dinner salad though ice berg was decent I thought....It came with tomato, cucumber, onion, carrots, and green pepper...The waitress actually makes your salad for you at the salad bar....She really shorted me on the dressing though...She put it in a small cup but it was only enough to cover maybe 1/4 of my salad....That was annoying.... Now the CCQ.....The crab cake itself was good but there was not enough of it on the quesadilla nor was it distributed evenly...This was also the case with the cheese as there was a big glob of cheese in one part of the quesadilla but none on other parts....It also came with green peppers, jalapenos, fried onions with salsa and sour cream on the side.....I had to ask for more salsa as there was hardly any given to me again.....There were actually so many green peppers and jalapenos that at times I felt like i was eating a veggie quesadilla...Most of the time I ate this I could not even taste the crab cake at all......The quesadilla would have been way better with less veggies, and also if the veggies were diced up rather than large pieces....I also found some very hard small black objects in it....They were so hard I thought they could have chipped my tooth....I believe these were some hard crusty pieces either off the grill or out of a pan....this quesadilla with these ingredients could easily be a 4 out of 5 quesadilla if it was made with some love which it was not....It was also listed at $9.99 on the menu yet I was charged $10.49 for it on my bill....quesadilla gets a 2 out of 5..... Now what did my gf tell me at the end ? Well she didn't want to tell me as I was eating off a plate from the salad bar.....But she told me when she went up to the salad bar she had to sift through the plates to find a clean one.....She said she went through a lot of them to find a clean one.....And the soup bowls a few of them actually had leftover crusty soup in them still......That was it for me....I've had more than enough of this place..... And just to top it off on our way out they had what appeared to be a buffet set up for the morning...They two sets of plates stacked up and all ready to go.....As we walked by I thought I saw something glistening on the plates...So I stooped down and looked. Then I wiped my finger across the first plate right through a haze of grease...EEEEEWWWWWW GROSSSSSS !!!! I hope I don't end up with diarrhea tonight ! Eek! Methinks not is right. I try to find the good in every review, so okay, the building is all right and the parking is plentiful. Elma Towne Grille got 4 stars on yelp which is why I felt confident trying someplace new for our group's lunch date. On closer look, the five star reviews seem suspicious to me, from folks with few reviews and/or few or no friends (on yelp) -- I will be sure to notice that BEFORE I try a "highly rated" new place next time. This is only my third one-star rating out of 132 ratings over the years. We stepped into the entryway on this, our first visit, and waited a bit near the apparent hostess stand for direction. A server moved swiftly by us, gesturing with her hand and blurting out to sit wherever we want and we quickly stated party of four as she ran off. All righty then. We found ourselves a booth set up as a two-top near a window and waited for our guests to arrive. The server whizzed over with a pile of napkins and plunked down an assortment of flatware evidently for us to distribute to the empty two places. Oh, and four menus were flung on the table in our general direction. She never bothered getting the two extra placemats. This server had an edge about her, not sure how to articulate, but her cartoon balloon might say something like, "I don't really wanna be here, so whatdya want, I got things to do." And so it went for the entire meal. Sadly, she's lost sight of the minimum requirements for the job: to be cordial, kind, friendly, and even if you have to, ACT like you care. You're serving people who might be eating their first or their last meal together (maybe they come from out of town, or one has a terminal illness) so make it a pleasant outing from a service perspective. Or find another job. We were unduly uncomfortable with her as a server, she was snappy even when we ordered, like "do ya want the sandwich or the platter????" Or when ordering a draft beer, she was incredulous that one of us ordered the brand that was out, "I told ya, that's the only one we DON'T have." All right, all right. Geesh. It was not especially busy, in fact it was not busy at all, but the way she hurried to get away from us was disconcerting. When an elderly member of our group did not instantly spit out her order, she asked not once, not twice, but four times in a row if she wanted her to come back. Here is the proper way to address someone who is deciding: "Take your time, ma'am. Did you want me to come back?" said in a patient manner. If the party does not respond, just wait. Our guest was ready not instantly, but soon enough. And for heaven's sake, never refer to your elder whom you are not familiar with as "hon", just don't. The roast beef sandwich was as Mark II S. (Elite '15) said, and I quote, "dry, grey roast beef" ugh, it was just awful. I was expecting a pub-type place like this to serve a really good one. The fries were plentiful, but alas greasy, very greasy. The roll was soaked with a combo of grease and bad looking au jus. I did not eat my meal, just a few fries. The bottled beer was barely chilled, but I dare not say anything. Water came in grungy-looking plastic cups. The tomato bruschetta was very oily and overly cheese-laden, it's supposed to be fresh and light and it was the opposite. Maybe this place is a great bar hang-out for locals. Before I wrote about this place, I would mention this is not the greatest in terms of food. Not everything was horrible. I did struggle with the 3 star rating though. First, we used the online ordering which was pretty smooth. We did get what we asked for. Another plus (if you don't consider the yucky taste of most of our food). The highlight was the chicken Parmesan. My girlfriend gave it 4 stars. The bear battered fish fry was a solid 2 stars. I got shrimp and scallops with it. The scallops gave their poor lives up for this? The shrimp was just ok. The French onion soup (basically poop colored toilet salt water) was beyond disgusting. My girlfriend gave the Vegetable barley 3 stars. I overruled her and gave it 1.5 stars after almost spitting it out in the sink! It was BERY sour and salty. The Cole slaw was gross. Macaroni salad was macaroni floating in tasteless mayonnaise. There was more. Honestly, the more I write, the more I am struggling with not changing it to 2 stars for ripping us off with disgusting food. This gets better. When I got there to pick the order up, I said your Website didn't allow me to select any drinks. She told me we don't serve drinks with online orders anymore. We stopped it many months ago. Most of the times we have eaten here, there has been no wait for seating, which is definitely something to note for a Friday night. They offer a pretty decent menu, with typical American fare as well as some creative dishes mixed in, like crab cake quesadillas, which are pretty damn amazing by the way! They do a great job of presenting the food and you get quite a large portion, however I'd have to say that I have a gripe with their fish fry because they put the fish on top of everything and if you order fries, they consequently become soggy from the fish. I don't have many complaints for this establishment, their salads are sizable, the french onion soup is great, and I've never gotten a meal here that disappoints. She is AWESOME. She had a great attitude and superb service. She is the reason why it went from a 4 start to a 5 STAR. Starting with the appetizer, we ordered the Stuffed Peppers that serves 3, but when the dish arrived, there was 4 peppers in the dish because we had a table of 4, very considerate. I liked that. There is a soup and salad bar. The menu is extensive. Bar area looked like a fun place to be and I most likely would have been sitting there had grandchildren not been in tow. Grandkids each had grilled cheese and fries. Portion size was very large. I had the Buffalo Chicken wrap which came with the soup/salad. Ditto for daughter. The wraps were densely pack with chicken and nicely flavored with ample amounts of Frank's Hot sauce. My husband and I stopped at the Elma Town Grille tonight with our almost 2-year-old son. We were pleasantly surprised! We didn't know what to expect, but after visiting other restaurants in the area that ended in "Grill[e]" we didn't have high hopes. Our food was VERY good - my pulled pork quesadilla was far and away the best quesadilla I have ever had, ever. My husband loved his turkey dinner - said the turkey was excellent, and that the gravy was really tasty (he did not eat the glommy stuffing though). The fries were not my style, but he liked them. When told that we thought that had gone bad they did remove it right away--props for that....some of the dressings weren't labeled so you didn't know what they were and the toppings ( fake bacon--Baco's and croutons) has to be shook out of small plastic jug like containers). Moving along to....Famous chicken wing soup"Famous? Famous for what being disgusting? Famous for being absolutely nothing like buffalo wings?...never in my life have I eaten anything like this. It looked like tomato with vegetables and chunks of chicken. If someone had told me to guess what it was, chicken wing soup would be last on my list. If ALL of that doesn't sound downright lovely they also served it to me cold...because of a kitchen mixup. Ugh. They look like they are made from fresh potatoes, so why can't they actually take the time to cook these things properly?!...my sandwich " the Cuban" looked delicious but it tasted mediocre. After the spoiled seafood salad and that bowl of what the heck kind of soup Is this" I was pretty annoyed and turned off to this place. It may have been a great place years ago but the dinning room wasn't the cleanest, the salad bar obviously wasn't kept up, there were chairs just strewn about the dining room. Had Mother's Day reservations at 6:00 for a party of 8. Arrived and were rotor that despite the reservation they had no table for us. A quick glance around revealed at least two empty tables. After complaining they finally agreed to seat us. A few members of our party were 10 minutes late and just before they arrived www we're told they were closing at 7 and since everyone has not arrived they could not serve us. At this pout my 75 YO Mother is on the verge of tears and being treated so poorly. When we complained again the guy tells us he's been working since 10:30 and that's why they are closing. Why take a reservation for 7 if you close at 6? Why take out your unhappiness about your work schedule on my family? Terrible experience. I'd recommend everyone avoid this place like the plague. I went here based on positive reviews from friends. They always pushed me to go. So, eventually I made my way there. I always look forward to a nice evening out to dinner with my gf. Tonight wasn't a good night though. I couldn't tell you how the food was, because frankly I never truly got my meal. I have never experienced anything like this before or since. This is not a joke. We sat in the dining area to the left side of the building. The waitress was having a bad day I assume. She was a bit nasty, spoke short and actually rolled her eyes at my beer order. I didn't let it bother me. I ordered a steak sandwich. I love them. But I do not care for onions. I asked for it to have peppers(it also comes on it), but no onions. Alas, my sandwich comes with onions and no peppers. Being one not to complain, I began to pick them off. There were a lot and when asked, I explained. She took it back and when it returned it was EXACTLY the same. Sigh. Ok, so I told her again. When it returned the second time, it had NO meat. Just onions and bread!! This isn't made up. At this point, I feel I'm being messed with. The order came back right, but cold. I ate a bit, but decided to leave. Paid my bill and for some reason, I never complained to management. The burger my boyfriend had was okay but nothing special. The wings however were terrible. I ate the first one and it was tolerable but the first bite of the second one ended up spit out at the table. You'd think in buffalo the wings would at least be average but not here. The waitress didn't even offer to take them off the bill after seeing I only ate one and didn't want a box to take the rest home. Buffet for Easter so we knew the price, waitress delivered each a drink and we didn't see her until it was time to leave, about an hour later. No refills on water, no do you want another drink.
