Just ok in the Denver scene. Unfortunately Elways has gone downhill and compared to other nearby spots with similar fare, it is only middle of the road at an elevated cost. A few things stood out. First, out of the three glasses I used, two were chipped and we were left without silverware twice when food arrived. Secondly, the wine list compared to other spots is mediocre at best. For a high end steakhouse, they should have more than say 8 selections of red wines. They don't list regions so we had to ask and found out that the 7 cellars Elways reserve was from One Hope and was underwhelming. The staff was wonderful overall but the food was ok. I just feel like for what we spent, we have had incredible nights at other spots in town. This celebration won't be as memorable. read more

Our waiter was awesome and super informative on things to try and was super engaging when checking on us and making conversation. The whole staff is spectacular! Being from out of town he was also super informative on things to do throughout the city. The porterhouse steaks, French fries, crab fried rice, mashed potatoes, and even the drinks such as the Elway Spritz and Pineapple Express. The ambiance was very calm and relaxing. No one at other tables was talking loud and just a peaceful environment to have dinner or lunch. Overall this comes highly recommended! read more

Elway's has typically been a family tradition for years but seems to have gone down hill our last two visits. Mother's Day brunch was a huge disappointment. I can best describe the service as awkward. Brought us wrong food multiple times, and one server actually criticized us for trying the dessert buffet before our main course (we had only done so because our first server encouraged us too, which was super awkward to then be criticized). Even ordering a diet soda was awkward, they painfully explained, without needing to, how they have different beverage vendors and why some are cans and others are fountain, it was just TMI and awkwardly shared. The menu was extremely limited, bland, dried out and super boring. My son had the roasted chicken, and he barely ate any of it as it was so dry it was hard to cut. I had the prime rib which was also very overcooked and bland. It also wasn't very family friendly, options were more suited to a senior center than an upscale downtown restaurant at the Ritz. I've had better meals flying economy. Probably shouldn't call it a brunch and not offer any breakfast items. The dessert table also missed the mark, the pastries were all dried up and almost stale tasting. Wasn't much variety. The last two times we've been there, it's been a very strange crowd and ambiance. Today, they had a rather odd DJ booth set up in the lobby that felt more appropriate for a club night in Las Vegas than a Mother's Day brunch in Denver. Came here for a friend birthday dinner on a Saturday with a few friends. Mahogany hostess stand, white table cloth but, very welcoming. Our server was prompt with greeting, guiding us through the menu and taking our orders. The blue cheese stuff olive dirty martini were great as well as the Iceberg Wedge Salad (simple but fresh). For my main course, I got the 8 oz. Petite Filet which was good (favorite part was the charred edges). I don't know where to begin. Our server, Brian, at lunch today was horrible. We saw him twice, once to take our drink order and once to take our food order, and that was it. There were no drink refills, he didn't come to the table when our food arrived or afterward, we had to ask the bartender to figure out who we could pay (the bartender was unfriendly and said it wasn't his problem.). For the food, don't bother ordering a salad with salmon. It's $18 just for the side of salmon and is a single 1.5"-2" square piece of fish; when you ask if that's the correct serving size, the waiters that do deliver your meal just smile and laugh and offer you the opportunity to order another side of salmon for an additional $18. There is no dressing on the salads either. Prime rib sandwich was smothered in horseradish, fries were cold, fried chicken sandwich was very small. Again. Nobody to ask if any of this was correct or help to make it right. We finally found someone to give our card to and he took it to Brian who didn't bother to run it himself, another waiter ran the card for him and brought it back to the table. We asked and we were definitely meant to be Brian's table. Prior to watching the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Broncos, we stopped by Elway's to celebrate a few birthdays in our travel party. The ambiance was awesome, very clean and modern.The restaurant and bar area were both very lively. The location had great energy. The staff was great, present but not annoying. We ordered a few apps which were prepared and delivered to our table in short order. Unfortunately, there was a quit a long wait for our main entree and dessert. Overall I'd recommend this establishment for any type of event. The prices were comparable to other steak houses. Dress code for the dining area is between business casual and formal. I stayed at the adjoining Ritz for a couple days and came by twice. Both times I was fairly disappointed. The first time, I came around happy hour and ordered 2 glasses of wine. The Chenin Blanc to be exact and it was exquisite. However, the service was spotty, I would have stayed longer but the Wi-Fi made it impossible to work a little on my laptop. The second time, I told the bartender I'd be dining in. I was by myself, but was able to locate a (very) small selection on the menu that I could comfortably order as a party of 1. However, the options were very limited. I ordered the half chicken for almost $50 (only thing that looked good) and it came with very thin/stringy/greasy asparagus and exactly 4 carrots. I've had a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better version of this meal in Manhattan at The Smith, Brick-Pressed Chicken, for $29. It comes crispy on top of a beautiful garlic mash potato and lemon chicken jus....step it up Elways. read more

We have been coming to elways for years and this was the first time we felt the brunch was not good. Benedict was cold, French toast seemed hard and the biscuits were burnt. We had a wonderful dinner at Elway's last Saturday. From our waiter, Tommy, to the wine, all was great! The steaks were cooked properly and the rack of lamb, while more medium than medium rare, was still juicy and delicious. It is difficult to get Colorado lamb in Colorado, so I order it when it's available. The Brussel sprouts were very good and certainly worth trying. All the sides easily served the four of us. It was beautifully presented, big enough for 4 to share, and delicious with big lumps of crab. Our steak was very average. (For $87) Salmon was good. Asparagus was good, nothing fancy... The downside is that we were freezing! They honestly need to fix something. We had a plug in heater at our table that we gave to the table next to us when we left. We came here for our wedding anniversary and I'll start out by pointing out the great service. Our hostess seated us immediately and the waiter was pleasant and timely in helping us out. Throughout the meal our table was promptly cleaned, water refilled and bread was brought out quickly. It was not extremely busy while we were there so I am sure that worked in our favor. The food and drinks however were very overpriced. I understand this is a "fancy" restaurant and obviously things get marked up but when I pay $85 for a steak it better be the best steak of my life. Tasted like a store bought NY strip with basic seasoning. Supposedly it was dry aged for 30 days but I didn't taste anything special about it. I also requested it come out medium and it was more medium rare which isn't a huge deal but you would think a restaurant that boasts top tier steaks would get it right. I also got my steak Oscar style and the Bernaise was a cold lump with some crab and chunks of asparagus inside, not very flavorful. We paid $60 for a bottle of wine that we found out was $20 in a store. I know restaurants will mark things up but really? For sides we got the lobster mac and cheese which was actually what we enjoyed the most. Minus the thick cold cheese on top. We also got the Parmesan truffle fries which according to my husband needed ketchup because they were dry and flavorless. For dessert we got the "ding dong" which is advertised as being paired with Ice cream. But what they mean by ice cream, is they melt some vanilla ice cream and put a little bit of that melted ice cream on the top of the cake. After everything was said and done the bill came to $360 and we certainly didn't feel like it was worth anywhere near that. At the end of the meal it feels like you're paying that amount just so you can say "I've been to Elways." We don't plan on going back but if you want to give it a try just be aware of the very high price point. read more

Had a gift card so we treated ourselves to a fancy brunch. Made a reservation as wasn't sure what to expect. The location we wanted to go to was closed on Sundays so we headed downtown. Decided on water and a mango mimosa. Truffle Parmesan fries for appetizer, chicken fried steak burrito for him and tuna poke bowl for me. We also ordered a bison burger to go. The server, Seamus, brought our dishes and knew I ordered the poke bowl without me telling him. It was funny. The chicken fried steak burrito was large and made with prime tenderloin, hash browns, pork green chili and scrambled eggs. Sausage gravy all over. He liked it a lot. My tuna was fresh and I liked the wakame salad, cucumber, edamame and mango with it. Not a fan of pickled ginger or the red beets and radishes but I tried them all to see if I liked the taste. They were fine but not enough motivation for me to finish them. The spicy Mayo over the tuna and sushi rice were good. I enjoyed them very much. The mango mimosa was strong. Yummy to sip while talking. The bison burger had two patties. It was too salty for him. He put the fries in the burger and that evened out the saltiness a little. Brioche bun was good. I loved that they sent home a tiny bottle of ketchup with our to go order. It was fun and Juan was great. Pretty sure Alex was the other server who checked on us. He was friendly too. Do not recommend this restaurant We were extremely disappointed with our meal at Elways. We have been here before on Christmas and also for other occasions with no problems however this time was horrible. The lamb chops were amazing as usual how the salmon was unbelievably dry and tasteless. The duck special that was offered on the Christmas menu was beyond disappointing. You got 2 tiny pieces of duck with a very small portion if greens for $57. And the duck was terrible. The crab stuffed mushrooms for the appetizer had no crab. This meal was such a disappointment for my family and myself. Also the service was not good. We were seated in the very back of the restaurant despite there being open tables in the front. While our server was nice, we were completely forgotten about. Had to get up to ask for refills on our water. Never checked in once our meal arrived. Then when we were finally given an ounce of attention we asked for a dessert menu. Once we received the dessert menu, our server did not come back for 20 minutes. We then opted to skip dessert (lost money for the restaurant) because of the atrocious wait. We were very much looking forward to another dinner at Elways and the disappointment is indescribable. For a meal that cost over $400 for my family I expect better quality food and service. Unfortunately because of the meal and terrible experience I do not believe we will come back to Elways which is very sad because the lamp chops are amazing but this experience was horrendous and ruined our Christmas meal. read more

The waiter was very attentive & with his double vetting for the pastry & dessert kitchen determined that something sweet for my son with peanut allergy was a bad idea. Staying at the Ritz-Carlton for the New Year's holiday, my wife and I made reservations for dinner at Elway's (located in the hotel) on NYE. While we had dined here before, we knew making a reservation for a holiday meal was the way to go so that we didn't find ourselves without an opportunity for a decent meal. We arrived downstairs about 10 minutes ahead of our reservation time, and were invited to sit in the bar for a drink while we waited for our table to be ready. We each sat back, and relaxed with a Blackberry Smash while the smooth sounds from the saxophone player in the bar helped to set a great vibe. Regrettably, we didn't wind up getting to sit down in the dining room until about 20-25 minutes after our reservation time and were seated at a table against a dusty wood panel that rubbed off on my sweater. Fortunately, this would prove to be the low point of the evening as the service from our waiter, Scott, was excellent and the food followed suit. Beginning our meal with the Cold Tower that featured shrimp cocktail, crab cocktail, and ahi tuna tartare we were off to a great start. The tuna tartare is a go-to order for me here as it is consistently delicious, but the real surprise here was the crab cocktail that had a delicious remoulade/sauce that really worked with the crab meat to create a rich, satisfying bite. We paired this with a glass of Pouilly-Fume that Scott recommended, and were not disappointed. After this we each opted for a bowl of French Onion Soup, as it is always a favorite, especially during cold weather months. While the soup was very good, the cheese on top did taste as though it was a bit scorched or burnt which was not as favorable. For our main courses, I went for the Dry Aged New York Strip (medium rare), my wife had the Filet Mignon (medium), and we shared the Mashed Potatoes as a side. We also ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir from the list, and were disappointed that it was not available, but Scott came up big here with another great wine suggestion that worked perfectly. Both steaks were very good, though both seemed as though they were not done to the requested temps with mine looking closer to rare and my wife's looking closer to medium rare. Not too big a deal, and hardly worth sending them back for as we were already starting to feel quite full, but still not quite what was expected. This restaurant is now being remodeled, and will be closed for the next few months as the work happens to bring the new vision to life. I'm looking forward to coming back for more good food, drinks, and to see the new look! read more

This spot is a hidden gem. Everything I consumed here was top notch and not even as expensive as I thought it would be. We came here to celebrate one of my friends getting a new job and what a discovery it was! We ordered multiple items including the grilled artichoke (aioli, drawn butter, & lemon), the tuna tartare (ahi tuna, scallion, guacamole, yuzu ponzu, creamy spicy aioli, & wasabi crema), the au gratin potatoes, and finally, the 22oz bone in ribeye with a 5oz Maine lobster tail on the side. Seriously everything was cooked, seasoned, and delivered perfectly. Will definitely be coming here for more celebrations soon! Update: Get the lamb and bone in ribeye. Update: Stopped by Elway's on one of my last nights living in Denver and yet again, it was phenomenal! We had a few cocktails, the artichoke appetizer, tuna tartar appetizer, the bison ribeye, a bone-in ribeye, NY strip, the filet mignon, and the ding dong for dessert. The bison ribeye was something I was a bit skeptical about trying but our server recommended it and I took a chance on it. WOW it was one of the best steaks I've ever had! TRY IT OUT! Also the server dropped off a few free shots of Jameson because we were celebrating my going away - which was a very nice touch on his end. Restaurant is in the Ritz where I was staying so stopped in for a solo dinner at the bar. Really one of the best hotel restaurants I've been to in terms of service, atmosphere and food. It's a large dimly lit space with a big bar area including some bar tables for groups. I just had the Caesar salad and crab cakes but all the food looked great. The salad had a little too much dressing for me so if you don't love dressing maybe ask for that light. The crab cake app came with two large cakes with an apple slaw on top (I thought it was broccoli so first bite was surprising) and a mustard sauce on the bottom. It's enough for a meal on its own. Dined at Elway's recently as our guests wanted to have steak downtown and it was recommended by several in the area. While located in the Ritz, it was not pretentious at all and actually much more casual than expected. We had no issues getting a reservation for dinner that evening and were seated right away upon arrival. Our server was very nice, albeit she seemed a little off her game when we ordered and pouring our wine. Our food was correct, but I initially wasn't sure if everything would come out correctly, but it did! During the service, the other wait staff didn't get the memo that we had bottled still and sparkling water, so we had to contiunally remind them of that so they wouldn't just fill up our water with tap water. Our server did mention this to the other waitstaff, but I guess they kept forgetting. Typically when you order bottles of wine, the staff will pour it for you, but there were a couple of times when we had to do it ourselves since our server wasn't around. Not that big of a deal, but for a fine dining restaurant, you'd expect that they are more attentive. I also had to ask for a fork when my dinner arrived; they gave everyone else a new fork, but me! The bread at the table includes pretzel bread which is oh so yummy. We also were able to request some gluten free bread which was nice as well. For appetizers, we had the grilled artichoke and crab cakes. The crab cakes were great and while I didn't eat the artichoke, the others in the party thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the filet with blue cheese butter on the side and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly medium rare and a very good portion. Along with the filet, I also had a baked potato as a side. For the table, we had broccoli with cheese sauce, au gratin potatoes, thai brussel sprouts, and creamed corn. Everything was delicious and I actually took my filet and potato to go (which heated up nicely the next day). For dessert, I had the strawberry cheesecake. I was expecting a slide rather than a round piece of cheesecake, but it still satisfied my sweet tooth. Overall, we all really enjoyed the food and while there were some hiccups in the service, it wouldn't stop me from coming back. Had a work dinner here the other night. Ordered appetizers - calamari and crab cake. Both were average at best. Ordered the ribeye medium rare - the steak came out bluish / purple. Extremely disappointed. The server came to the table 20 minutes later and was shocked at how rare the steak was. Brought it back and cooked it further.
