Great service and a nice quiet secluded space in the back area for our group of 7. The Luc Loc Beef was the standout dish, with the stewed beef a close second due to the tenderness of the meat and great sauce flavor. The one disappointing dish was the shrimp on skewers. went to em for lunch when my cousin visited!! was pretty good, we sat outside and it was so sunny lol i think we all ended up with burnt shoulders. the food and drinks were really good. my cousin got the lychee martini and i got agent watermelon. the agent watermelon was way overpriced considering that i couldn't taste any alcohol and didnt get buzzed at all. i honestly think it was just juice. the food was really good though, and decent portion sizes. we got the summer rolls, my cousin got the dry pork noodles, i got the shaking pork chop, and my sister got pho. the pho broth was rich, kind of different from what i was used to but very nice. would recommend em!! just maybe not the drinks. read more

I moved from California to NYC and have been searching for my go-to Vietnamese spot; I think I've finally found it! The pho bo is delicious; everything was cooked perfectly and the beef was very tender. The Hu tieu kho (dry noodles) are also amazing, it reminds me of SF's ha nam nimh's dry pho (which is sadly closed down). I went there yesterday. The Spanish waiter treated me like discrimination because of Asians. We visited NY from San Francisco. We wanted to try Vietnamese food at that restaurant. We planned to order a lot of food, however, the way he treated us we don't understand English, were not high class, and we don't know how to order it. He said Jesus crust in front of us. He shouldn't suppose to say. His service is so bad. We ordered only 3 dishes because of him. If he gives us good service your restaurant will make more money. Haven't found that many good and authentic Vietnamese restaurants since moving to New York. Most of the restaurants I know are very limited with their menu. Usually pho and rice platters. i've been wanting to try this place for the longest time! they have a location in south brooklyn near bensonhurst called em vietnamese kitchen, but i went to try their dumbo location today. their menus are also slightly different from each other, which you can look up on their website. -no outdoor seating. there's plenty of tables inside the restaurant and most of them are separated by parition walls. you can make a reservation through resy, but there's a $25 fee if you cancel less than 12 hours before your reserved time. my friend and i came by on a weekday afternoon at around 1 pm and there was no wait. -they're available for pickup/delivery orders through their website. -the service here is great! the waiters are attentive and friendly. we only had to wait ~5 minutes for our appetizer and maybe around 10-15 minutes for our main dishes. 8/16/21 -goi cuon: my friend and i got this to split. it comes with 2 rice paper summer rolls cut in half; the inside has shrimp, lettuce, mint, chives, and vermicelli noodles. there's also a side of peanut sauce for dipping. we both agreed that there was nothing super special about this. i personally thought that the veggies overpowered the shrimp on the inside; the most dominant flavor was just mint. the peanut sauce didn't have enough of a peanuty flavor, which was quite disappointing. this is a good appetizer to split with the table, but i wouldn't get it again since it costs $10 before tax. (3/5) -pho bo: my friend ordered this and seemed to enjoy it. it was missing that "wow" factor, but still seemed like a very fair portion for the price. the bowl has filet mignon, rib eye, onions, scallions, cilantro, and rice noodles. they also give you a side of some sauces, mint, jalapenos, and bean sprouts to add into the bowl yourself. (4/5) -banh mi burger: this really intrigued me because i had never seen something like this before at any other restaurant. at this location, it's only available on weekdays for lunch. i was seriously so impressed with this! the inside has a black angus beef patties, melted provolone cheese, pate, vietnamese mayo, cucumber, cilantro, jalapenos, pickles carrots, and daikon. the beef was cooked just the right amount and so flavorful! the baguette was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. while i did think that there was a lot more veggies inside than meat, it was still extremely filling. it doesn't look big in the pictures, but it was honestly a very hefty burger. this creation truly is just a combination of a classic cheeseburger and banh mi sandwich. for $10, i really have no complaints at all. (4.5/5) overall, this restaurant is a solid place to get viet food in brooklyn! i wish that i had tried some of their smoothies, since those tend to be quite popular. i could maybe see myself coming back in the future, since we had a great experience this time. i would highly recommend that you must try their banh mi burger! read more

This place does everything right. The service is attentive. The front of house staff is friendly and even remembers my name which I do not require but appreciate. The food never disappoints and as someone who is a chef myself I know how challenging that can be. You can't go wrong at this establishment. I've tried pretty much the entire menu and always thought it was as good as any other Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. It's great! Also not super expensive which seems to be the norm in NYC these days. Many places are too expensive and don't deliver in the flavor department. That is not true at Em Vietnamese. Really wanted to eat here. Came in with my friend at 5:28p, because the door pulled open despite the sign saying closed. We were excited but upon entering, two white girls at the counter rolled their eyes and said "we open in two minutes but its ok" .. not very welcoming lol. A fresh new Vietnamese restaurant for a beautiful neighborhood. The service was stellar despite some delays from a particularly busy kitchen. The portion sizes were excellent (had to take some to go), and the food was good but nothing special. The highlight of our meal was the seafood fried rice, which was pleasantly heavy on the seafood. The Vietnamese beef stew (Bo Kho) was lacking a little bit of flavor and might have been better served warmer than room temperature, but the beef itself was melt-in-your-mouth tender. I came back to grab lunch - I got the Banh Mi Burger as takeout. It's so damn good. Like no joke top 10 burgers in NYC good, and it doesn't even look like a burger. The beef grind they use is steakhouse quality, and you get this awesome umami/savory kick from the beef (might be fish sauce or maggi sauce, whatever it is, works really well with the meat and is like crack). I didn't expect to get this worked up after eating lunch, but it really is that good of a sandwich. Hats off to whoever invented this monster. I've also eaten their Banh Mi Dac Biet before - also really tasty. The bread on the sandwiches is perfect (not just good, but perfect), and you have your usual pickled carrots/daikon and cilantro to accompany the assortment of meats. We've lived in Dumbo for 7 years now and have always been driving afar for decent Vietnamese. We've driven to Em's Bensonhurst location a few times to grab takeout and it's never disappointed. So when we heard Em was opening up down the street from us we were ecstatic. We've done takeout about ten times already and have tried pretty much the whole menu. Standouts for us are the pho, hui tieu, bo luc lac, summer rolls, spring rolls, fried rice, Banh mi and the clams. Everything here is solid and of good value. Staff is very nice and we've never had an issue with our takeout order being wrong (which seems to happen everywhere else). Glad to have this establishment near us. Only critical feedback I would say is they need to put their menu on the window or somewhere outside. With construction across the street and the narrowness of the sidewalk, I've seen so many people walk by, look in and keep on walking as they are not sure what kk d of restaurant this is. Just a recommendation but we will continue supporting this restaurant. read more
